Babyvet: His future is not going to be bright if works menial jobs. Who told you that menails jobs pay like that? He is going to be spending the money where he lives. Most minimum wage workers live paycheck to paycheck to cover their expenses, a lot of times they don’t even have enough. You are too shortsighted and i'm not sure you have had a real life experience. you said that because you know how his future will turn out? |

abnot: I must appreciate the poster's sincerity as opposed to how majority of Nigerians resident in first world nations present the west. I don't think the poster has the wrong mindset. He is at a stage in life where tough decisions need to be made and he is trying to be careful. It is only on nairaland that I consistently hear/read of Nigerians doing well in the west. Majority of Africans are struggling in the west. I also struggled during my college days in east coast USA despite getting a generous allowance from home. Nigerians are also struggling back home in Nigeria. In UK where I lived for 2 years + the story is the same. I don't know much about the poster's academic and social background but I'll suggest he reflects on his strengths and weaknesses in both spheres and make a decision based on that. The west can be attractive when young and at your prime but as you age your priorities and interests get to change and some begin to miss the African life. People struggle everywhere but that doesn't mean that everyone will struggle, I will like to say this again..many Nigerians are doing professional jobs and many started with menial jobs and clamp up to professional job. The problem with many Nigerians is lack of planning and this false sense of entitlement, 1. if you studied a course with low employment demand then getting a job will be harder, 2.if you graduated from mushroom colleges or universities then don't expect to be headhunted. 3. If you re holding a two yrs after-graduate visa with no option of renewer then you need to have something outstanding for employers to take a risk at you. Many Nigerians who are so quick to shout no jobs, Nigerians abroad are struggling..don't always tell the truth. |

ShyWhale: Thanks for your advice. I kinda notice there's been no advice on Nigeria. Are you writing her off in business terms?
And please, may I ask why. Do as much as you can to save up before talking about Nigeria business, if you see any sound business idea then you can give it a go but have some money to fall back on if the business falls. |

ShyWhale: My reservations about moving to the UK
- I hate being at the mercy of others. Going to the UK on a spousal permit means losing my German residency and I'll be at her mercy. As should anything go wrong with the relationship , I'll have to leave the UK.
- Getting a professional job. It doesn't make sense to go to the UK and continue to be trapped in menial jobs. I have been there and I hardly see Nigerians in professional jobs except those with rich parents. Someone should advice me on that as it could not be a real reflection.
My Reservations about Nigeria
- High rate of startup failure - Difficulty in getting loans to expand. I have heard they can ask for even your neck in those times. With a lack of collateral, more difficult. Honestly i don't think you have the right mindset regarding this, there are Nigerians doing well in many professional jobs. |

ShyWhale: A little more than a year. See to the end of your visa and keep trying, don't over look those menial jobs as you could get something better through them. Don't marry someone if you have no feeling let alone love for her especially here in the UK |
Travel › Re: Should I Move To The UK Or Return To Nigeria? by justwise(mod): 9:21pm On May 13, 2019 |
ShyWhale: I am a Nigerian in Germany with a German Masters degree. It's quite difficult to get professional jobs in Germany as an African as we are usually the last of the pack. The only luck I ever had was to get internships, internships that takes several months to get and usually only for short periods. The high percentage of Africans even with German Phds doing menial jobs is highly discouraging and depressing. Most are trapped in the race for survival and I can't imagine myself living life like them. I feel I could do better with my skills and education that spreads across Europe's top countries.
I made the decision to return to Nigeria, harness my skills and start up a processing company. At 25 and the sole breadwinner of an extended family, they are asking me to stay put, saying that the Nigerian environment is not good for business (I feel they are only scared of losing out on the goodies they get from me).
Also last year, the family introduced me to a female in the UK, talking about marriage to her. The said lady is a Nigerian within my age range, but born and raised in the UK. Though I have been to the UK severally to see her, I have made no commitments whatsoever as she is not the kind of lady I would marry all things being equal. She and the family have however given me a ultimatum to decide now.
What do you advice?

claremont: It seems a bit confusing, but it's pretty straightforward. What they are referring to are people married to EU nationals living in the UK. These people wouldn't be carrying a UK spouse visa, they will be carrying a UK residence permit normally given to spouse of EU passport holder. Legally, a person married to an EU citizen only requires to be travelling with the spouse in order to enter the schengen area. The UK isn't a signatory to the schengen agreement meaning that the spouse of a UK passport holder will require a schengen visa.
I stand to be corrected on this, your friend and his non-EU spouse can try boarding without a schengen visa at any of the official ports of entry. Let's know what the outcome is. I don't think that is the case, but we will keep researching while we wait for a reply from the embassy |

claremont: **(except the country you are a national of)** This is from Spanish embassy website: Family members of EU/EEA/Spanish national Under Directive 2004/38/EC and according to Real Decreto 240/2007, 16 February, family members of an EU/EEA national in possession of a valid UK Residence Card specifying its condition as a family member do not require a visa to enter Spain when travelling with the EU/EEA National or joining him/her in Spain. Otherwise, a visa will be still required (Real Decreto 1161/2009, 10th July 2009). For spouses or children of Spanish Nationals the above condition applies provided that the marriage or birth is registered according with the Spanish Civil Register (original Libro de Familia). |

claremont: ''Residence permits issued by countries outside the Schengen area do not allow non-EU family members to travel visa-free to a Schengen area country''
https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/entry-exit/non-eu-family/index_en.htm#shortcut-2-visa-exemptions Did you read this section from that link? Your non-EU spouse, (grand) children or (grand) parents do not need to get a visa from the country they are travelling to if:
They have a residence card as an EU family member, issued under EU rules by any EU country (except the country you are a national of), and they are travelling together with you or travelling to join you in another EU country. The residence card should clearly state that the holder is a family member of an EU national. |

claremont: She will need a Shengen visa to travel to France legally. The UK might be part of the EU, but it's not a part of Shengen. If the husband carried a EU passport (not UK), she wouldn't require a visa as long as they are travelling together.
I have heard there is an illegal way of going to the EU from the UK via Northern Ireland to Ireland and then by ferry to EU. However, even though border checks are non-existent in this method, I have heard that black and brown people are singled out for checking of immigration documents. Those without Shengen visa are deported back to the UK. What is the difference between those two? Just like my passport his passport is written: EUROPEAN UNION, UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHEN IRELAND |

kaakaa: Hello everybody, I saw this group late and found out that I have made so many mistakes on my application form....
How do I go about correcting it please, I need your help.... My 2 most recent visits to the US was for child birth, I stayed 2 months and 3 months each. I wrote childbirth for the 3 months in the form nd tourism for that of 2 months, bc I was scared they may feel am going to have a baby in Uk... does it matter? my first visit to US was for a wedding but no space to put that bc it’s my earliest us trip....2014, second 2015, third 2018....
I own a business and I said I earn about 150000 monthly, so my yearly income should be 1850000, but I wrote 3200000.... problem is I don’t even know how much I earn monthly from my business, and my sales for the past 6 months doesn’t even get up to 100k monthly bc it’s like a wholesale thing and I get most of my money in lumpsome and nothing this past 6 months...and it’s my personal account it’s paid into.... point is, the cash flow in my acc this last 6 months may not be up to the 150k I said, what do I do... and should write the sums in pounds instead of Nairaland
Can I change my application and still retain my appointment date? Can I show only Hubbys account since he is the sponsor? Is it proper he is sponsoring me for tourism without the family accompanying me, How do I amend the submitted form, If I cancel my application will it affect my appointment, bc I have paid for that and it’s unrefundable..
On th employment section do I skip how much I get on the job since I am into business and only fill income and expenditure part....
Please help me with the answers, please... I want to get this visa once, please...
@justwise @FrontPageLawyer @ all If you have lied/misrepresented in your application then its better you cancel it and resubmit a correct one with honest answers to all questions |

Please regarding your second response. She has actually registered her business an an Enterprise and she will explain the nature of her business to the ECO. I actually want to know if ECOs usually look out for tax receipts ones the business is registered? or do they regard it as mandatory for a sole proprietor with a registered business during visa applications?
Thank you If you don't submit any tax paper to show that you pay tax from your business earning how will the ECO know whether the money in your business account is a gross profit or net profit? |

The only problem is that my (family) company account which is actually my sponsorship account has run into a little tussle with firs, though we have our tax clearance for the previous three years (that's another issue), so we moved the funds to our other company account. A supported applications would have to be made, by the intended traveller.........
It's not a difficult application and always usually granted (unless village pipu no drop for Muritala Mohammed)...... Its not really the case when your spouse is a British/EU citizen and you are traveling together |
