Alonu: so I dont have to pay the whole thing at once because that was what he told me and since he has been telling me stories of one guy in TLS abuja trying to help him get a date that all the dates are occupied that's why the site is rejecting payment which does not make any sense to me at all. You don’t pay for appointment date but you pay for value added service which you can buy after completing the application. Immediately your application is completed you register with tlscontract and buy super priority and take the receipt to your appointment day. |

So we spoke to her boss today, and she advised we appeal. She said when she applied to go for the SAME training she was refused on the same family ties ground... so when she appealed she explained her situation in the cover letter; and she was eventually granted.
Do you think we should also appeal or send a fresh application? I'm not sure you will be able to appeal the decision, check that refusal letter to see if you are given right to appeal |

smartludy: Dear @Justwise thank you for creating this thread, this has been so useful to me (a first timer)... and thank you to other experts for serving people selflessly.
And I need your advice please - I recently helped my 18 year old cousin apply for a Short Term UK Student Visa in Abuja through an agent - for a training course that’s starting on the 7th of January; and she was refused for two reasons (I have attached the letter below)
Here’s the back story: She started a similar training in Nigeria back in April 2018, soon after the training she got an unpaid internship job and fortunately for her, the internship was sponsored by an International Company that offers Scholarship Grants As part of the CSR initiative - and she was one of those who got the training grant.
She was also offered a full time job with a starting salary of N65k to commence immediately after her mandatory training in London. The two companies (her employer and the sponsor) where kind enough to give us all the document we needed plus extras...
they only concern I had was her account balance which was quite low because of her own mistake; but we were told it didn’t really matter since the company provided their own account details and she’s young...
Secondly she had no prove of family ties, because 1. she’s an orphan and her siblings are scattered all over the country, 2. She’s young and not married, left secondary school about a year ago, has no properties or investments... but the agent ignored that. Sadly we didn’t include a covering letter explaining her situation. I only found this thread after the application was submitted - and I just hoped for the best. But we didn’t get the best.
Please I want to know when is the best time reapply, and what should we do differently to better her chances this time? How do show a strong family, social or economic ties from now and on time before her course starts?
Please please we need your help urgently - our agent went silent on us the minute she got the refusal news. Please list those documents the agent submitted for the application |

bigtt76: Thanks for the clarification but I guess a proof showing the fees and upkeep allowances has been paid would be required right? Fees payment will be indicated in the CAS and the issue of upkeep will be taken care of by sponsorship letter. |
Travel › Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 3 by justwise(mod): 12:21pm On Dec 15, 2018 |
bigtt76: Company needs to provide you with a letter of scholarship stating clearly what it covers and how they would meet that obligation to you. This requires that the company provide a bank statement showing they have enough funds unencumbered (that is not tied to other use aside what it is meant for) and available for your school fees and maintenance. They may be required to make a deposit with the university and provide that proof. bigtt76: You need evidence of the full fees paid + evidence that your upkeep allowance has been or will be paid from an unencumbered funds set aside for that purpose.
The company's bank statement showing the transfer of funds for the fees would be ideal in addition to showing the funds for your upkeep or a deposit showing your upkeep funds has been made and you have unhindered access to it.
The letter of sponsorship is a must and should also state clearly the reason for sponsorship and their plans for you after graduation. That is not needed when being sponsored by a multinational/international company. |

MamaGiovanni: Hi @jennyhumphrey @justwise and any other experienced person here.
I want to apply for tier 2 visa for myself, hubby and kids.
I have a query regarding my first child's birth certificate. She's 4yrs old now, but I got her NPC birth certificate about a year ago when she was 3 yrs old. Prior to this time, we used her baptism card as proof of birth (it was gotten when she was a month old and contains her names and the names of us her parents).
I read that late birth certificate (over a year after birth) could raise eyebrows.
Note that my other child [sub][/sub]got her birth certificate within a year of birth.
I have sworn an affidavit in the high court stating that I'm her biological mother, and that the NPC issues birth certificate to children between 0 to 18 years.
I'm planning to include her baptism card, birth certificate, immunization card and the affidavit in her application.
Pls do you think it's okay? Or should I just submit only the birth certificate and pray no issues are raised?
The visa fees are to expensive to risk a rejection.
Pls prompt advise is needed here.
Thank you all. That is perfectly ok |

shawlar: You seem really bent on making a mountain out of a molehill here. Are there not people who have been granted visas without enough money in their accounts? Where the ECO decided to grant them visas based on their inflow & outflow plus other factors on their application eg travel history, family ties, occupation etc. Are there not people who have been denied visas even with fat account balances? The account balance is just 1 of the factors, it’s not necessarily a determining factor all the time..
That said, would you tell me not to withdraw the money in my account if I have some pressing needs just because I have applied for a visa which I plan to use maybe 3months later? Even when I know that I can raise the funds for my trip in those 3months...? There are a lot of reasons why someone may have to use the funds in the account temporarily.... Not everything or everyone is fraudulent... No i don't know anybody who got a visa without enough money to pay for the trip and if you feels that i'm making too much of it then learn how to use the scroll bar and zip pass my post on this. If you applied for visa and withdraw the money meant for the trip after submitting then that is misrepresentation/fraudulent because the bank statement you presented is not as its. The ECO or the bank doesn't know about your pressing need that made you withdraw the money. People 'build' an account just to show that they have the money for the visa application and return the money to the owner after submitting the application. |

Its not wise to make a mountain out of a pea sized issue.
After all the applicant won't fly free to the UK or sleep on the roadside or eat grass?
Money taken out can always be put back. Its no crime. Its not fraudulent.
Get money for the trip and jet out. You don't apply for visa today and meet the requirement tomorrow, if you submitted bank statement declaring that you have the money for the trip then decided to withdraw that money after submitting then that is a misrepresentation because your condition is not as you stated. That is a fraudulent practices. |

toboy: Hey Justewise, First time I am ever getting a direct quote from you. Such an honour!
It depends on the angle you see it from. Alot of immigrants are realising how difficult it is to raise children in the West. First, your generation will loose a greater part of their African identity and some parents do regret raising their children in the West. Suffice to say that raising your children here, they risk being white-washed and loosing important virtues such as family, respect for elders, community etc. which are very important to their core-identity and mental health. Secondly, a lot of parents are now contemplating if it is worth it to raise their children in an environment where they have the tendency and fear of being racialised right from childhood till their entire life. Whereas a person raised in Nigeria is sheltered away from racism or police brutality. One of the Nigerian family I met here suggest raising kids in Singapore. An environment where they can get good education and be sheltered away from racism and drugs.
In terms of good education and health care you can get definitely get them in Nigeria. There are international standard school systems in Nigeria depending on your socio-economic status. Some of the high school educational system in Nigeria pay higher tuition fees than a Canadian university, annually. You are right in terms of security, as I mentioned earlier Nigeria has a big security problem than it seems.
The Western system is built based on "extractive principle". Their system will suck 80% from you, then give you 20%. It is important to consider and weigh all options carefully. Take US., for instance, only 10% of the elites in that country owns 77% of the country's wealth. This is a striking inequality that is worse off than Nigeria. You just jumped to a completely different topic which got nothing to do with your previous post. If you like raise your child in a church a bad child will be a bad child, days are gone when moral standard is higher in Africa, infact kids are more likely to be abused or raped in Africa with little or nothing to be done about it than in the west. |

thebosstrevor: you are trying hard to justify people travelling out instead of building their own country.
how will they fund those sectors with your contribution if you dont migrate?
I honestly don't think you learned anything during your travels, What percent of Americans/British/Canadians population etc are immigrants and how much do you think they pay into the system? You don't have to live in Nigeria to be able to contribute |
Travel › Re: Why Do Nigerians Think That They Can Only Make It Abroad? by justwise(mod): 8:43pm On Dec 10, 2018 |
toboy: Thank you so much thebosstrevor for starting this tread. As final a year student studying abroad who is contemplating between working overseas or coming back to Nigeria, I learned alot from people's comments.
I think a lot of reaction from people miss the point the OP raises which is "ONLY MAKE IT ABROAD". Basically, I believe people can make it both in Nigeria and Overseas. However, any migrant needs to weigh their skills, competences, and savings accordingly before migrating, otherwise, the individual might end up taking meager jobs overseas that are less in value that what they had in Nigeria.
On the other hand, the individuals who mentioned about the better quality of live overseas is definitely right. I have been to several countries in North America and Europe and can attest that the quality of life there is better than Nigeria. I dont want to start ranting about the many social problems in Nigeria but the fact that whenever you are in Nigeria and you fear for your security- from road accidents, armed robbery, kidnapping, religious crisis, police harrasement, Boko Haram, depending on where you live. These issues chase people away from Nigeria. And this could also be a reason why politicians send their kids and family away too.
Big Picture: Opportunities exist in both in Nigeria and abroad but you must work hard to get it, be it abroad or in Nigeria
For the individuals that complains about blaming the West for Nigeria's problem. Certainly, the West is definitely a major part of the problem that a lot of African Nation are facing, including corruption. The Nigerian politicians who embezzle Nigerian funds use the West as safe havens where they buy properties, send their kids and families, and for tax evasions. If the West is resolved to help African nation fight corruption, then, they might as well stop the money laundering coming into their economy.
Just to be clear, anyone living and working abroad, legally, is paying income taxes. By this, we immigrants alongside citizens of those country generate tremendous amount of revenue and skills for their government. Their government use this resource to better their countries, support their industries, invest overseas, and subsidise some sector of their economy. This goes to show that as long as we keep migrating and investing overseas we keep contributing to building their economy for them. It's called putting yourself and your children to modern day slavery. Its not modern day slavery because you and your kids are benefiting from the system, you enjoy the social amenities, security, good education and health care. You are basically using what you paid for which is not the same in Nigeria. If you don't migrate to those countries they will still fund those sectors with your contribution. |
