I can't believe I finished reading this thread from beginning to the end.

Wow wow wow

Well, I'm not surprised. The average Nigerian is highly gullible. So I'm not surprised they were duped.

Nigerians don't think deeply; the culture and society does not encourage critical reasoning. It's a follow follow reasoning that's prevalent here.

Kudos to Justwise and Co who stood their ground.
You guys are heros.
I was then but not anymore as i read posts in this section.

Governance is all about he interest of the majority. It's obvious that your stance and your friends' are in the minority side. Seeing that Trump won the election without the approval of your likes.

You cannot be a reasonable leader and allow someone to plunder your country. Something that is greatly missing in Nigeria. Where Nigeriens, Camerroonians and Chadians invade Nigeria territories. Countries that ought to be at our whims.
Trump did not win because majority of Americans voted for him in fact about 3M people voted for Hillary than Trump.

EmagNig:
Thousands of Nigerians will miss their visa appointments as the United States, US embassy in Nigeria, located in Abuja and its consulate in Lagos have shutdown indefinitely.

This implies that persons who have applied for tourist, study, business visas, immigrant visas or any other travel document will have to cancel their plans.

The US embassy in Nigeria said in a Facebook post that the development was caused by the government shutdown in the US.

The statement read,

“Due to the current US government shutdown, the American centres located in the embassy, Abuja and Consulate-General, Lagos are unfortunately closed. They will re-open once the US government shutdown is resolved. Sorry for any inconvenience to our valued patrons.”

The executive arm of government led by President Donald Trump and the legislative arm have been at loggerheads for nearly two months over Trump’s attempt to build a wall along the Mexican border.

Building a wall was one of Trump’s major campaign promises as part of efforts to curb illegal migration and crime.

He had boasted during his campaign that the Mexican government would pay for the wall.

However, with the refusal of the Mexican government to fund the wall, the President approached the US legislative, asking the bi-cameral institution to provide $5bn which would be used in funding the wall.

The Congress, however, rejected Trump’s proposal.

On December 11, Trump held a televised meeting with Speaker-designee, Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer, in which he asked them to support $5bn in funding for the border wall.

They refused and Trump said:

“I am proud to shut down the government for border security … I will be the one to shut the government down. I’m not going to blame you for it … I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down.”

Three days later, Politico reported that Trump was willing to sign a bill that delayed a government shutdown into 2019 and the new Congress.

On December 19, the Senate unanimously passed a continuing resolution, the Further Additional Continuing Appropriations Act, 2019, lasting until February 8, 2019.

Very misleading topic and the reading comprehension of a lot of people on this thread is disheartening. It is " the American center" in the Embassy that is closed, not the whole consulate or the embassy. This does not affect visa issuance and other consulate activities not involving the American center.
America Centers are cultural /research centers that are part of the embassy. That's why they apologized to their patrons(members). Are visa applicants patrons of US embassy, Consulate, or American Center.? Lalasticlala, Justwise or other mods should please correct this so as not to mislead people.

I just want to say a big thank you to all the contributors to this thread... With the information you all provided, I was able to apply for my UK visit Visa in the first week of this month and I was granted the week after (paid for priority service) I have a fair travel history, good job and pay and all my other docs were in order but without this thread I wouldn't have known of the cover letter or the need to explain all other major deposits to my account.Thank you all once again and have a wonderful new year ahead..
Congratulations!

Hello Justwise and poca4real

Am about to apply for a tourist Uk Visa on a 10 days Visit. I am presenting and account with a closing balance of 2,400,000 and i intend to spend 1,285,125Naira on the trip. Below is my expense break down.

Airline ticket 280,000 x 2 =560,000 (1,174GBP @ 477 Conversion rate)
Hotel Accommodation for 10 Nights (400GBP) @40 GBP Per day
Feeding for 10 Days @ 60 GBP Per day (600GBP)
Cash at Hand (700GBP)
Totalling 2,874(GBP)

My Question is do you think this break down is fair enough? and if not how much more do i step it up with.

Secondly i am sponsoring the trip wholly and i want to know if i would need to assign some money to my wife on the application because her salary is pretty low and i doubt if her closing balance will amount to anything. How much should i assign to my wife as her own travelling expenses.

I will so appreciate your response
How much do you earn in a month?

I realised the secret is to add your bank account card details to the app. Once you do that it takes less than 10 minutes even on a weekend.

Ordinarily, your regular banks would want to confirm before the transfer is done but my starling and monzo banks make it stress free
That i haven't tried but i will give it a go next time i'm sending money.

I started using azimo based on your recommendation sometime ago on this forum.

Azimo is lightening fast for me. No jokes. Azimo will still be processing transfer on their app but fund is already chilling in my naija account. I don't wait for the transaction completed thing again. I just launch my Naija Bank app and there is the money sitting gorgeously cheesy

In my last 5 transfers, I've credited whoever in naija from my Access Bank app from the money I sent through azimo before azimo's app completes the transaction transcript.
That is interesting..my last two transfers were not fast at all, took more than 5hrs to get to my Nigerian account but like i said previously i will still use them.

Regarding the bold, like seriously, who do you think you are to dictate to people to remain in Nigeria?
Gerrard59:
While it's possible to earn #750K in Abuja, it's rare to earn same in Calabar. A place where the economy is in doldrums? Who will pay you 750K? grin

Regarding the thread and general relocation, I believe people should comment only when necessary especially in a thread like this which is private. Yes, we know Nairaland is open for all to view, comment and share. But trying to argue that Canada is better than Nigeria or telling folks willing to relocate not to is ludicrous. Till thy kingdom comes, Canada is BETTER in every ramification than Nigeria.

Moreover, it's not only Nigerians that are relocating to developed countries. Citizens of China (residents of Hong Kong), South Korea and Singapore are doing same and these are well-off nations. How much more Nigerians?

Anyone who desires to relocate has the prerogative to do so as long as it's legal.

OP, ride on, I dey your back like hunchback. cool
Please let stop this derailing argument and allow the op to document his journey and experiences, people can ask him question but its up to him to reply.

Lets stop this Nigeria vs Canada argument here.

Please o... This thread is not for Nigeria vs Canada, or to debate the propriety of a move to Canada. That one has been done and dusted, and no looking back. The moment you hear 'Welcome to Canada' as a PR and step out of the airport, the only thing you will be asking yourself is why you didn't do this sooner. It's not something that can be explained in a few words.

Having said that, the goal of this thread is to document my move to Canada and be frank with the challenges that I face and my daily hustle to grow my space.

Seems i didn't explain well @justwise. .. I'm a male not a female... the person inviting me is just like a dad to me.. And he promise to cover all my expenses down there... And he said he would be inviting me as his son... because we bear the same surname... but the only problem i have is my previous application in 2017... so I'm thinking of telling the CO that I wasn't the one that filled the 1st application.. that the application was filled by a travelling agent... so that i can change the previous fathers name to his name ...I have a car here, I have landed property, and i have money with a cooperative firm that pays me interest... i can get a letter from NYSC to approve that I'm going for an holiday there.... Please all i need now is a good advice. Because the person inviting me adviced me to wait for this long which i did...so he is planning to invite me for the easter break..... please i need your help @justwise and other magnificent guru's in the house... please and please help a brother.
Your 10yrs ban from the UK is just an application a way.

If you want to make an honest application then get documents to support the source of your money, present your car and landed property papers, marriage certificate and family pictures, letter from NYSC allowing you to travel, IV from him, evidence of accommodation, bank statement and payslips (6moths) and you explain what you tend to do in the UK if given a visa.

Ok, I have not used Azimo before. I have used world remit, transferwise, ping-express, Rhemito and Transferboss(used to have very good rates and quite fast until the CBN license issue for transfer operators, I have not used them in over 2 years and not confident in their services anymore)
I have sent more money through Azimo than Transferwise for more than a year now, their system is good apart from slow transfer speed.

I'm going to register with Rhemito today just to try them out but because Azimo remembers my BD with gift i will keep using them too grin grin

Just wise and other brains here ... I appreciate ur contributions at all times ... Have been offline for a while now and would be happy to have your View over a friends case.... she has applied for tourist Visa more than 6 times since 2012 and has never been granted the Visa at all... She was a salary earner between 2012-2016 until she started her own business in 2017 till date... she applied in 2018 September and reapplied again in October 2018 but Visa refused... First and second refusal letter attached... She has always applied for tourist Visa and would answer NO to the question is she knows anyone in the UK. now she wants to do apply next year February to visit her friend in the UK and the friend is willing to ro give all documents to support her application ... kindly advise on this . THANKS
The next application will also be refused if she doesn't stop and wait for a significant change in her financial situation.

Why the desperation? Your tie to Nigeria at the moment is not very strong, the only thing you have going for you at the moment is that you are married but you don't have a job and can't sponsor your trip.

Yes a family friend will be paying for the trip but that is just one side of the case, you need to demonstrate that you meet the requirements as well.

so you need to convince the ECO about your relationship with that person and why he/she wants to pickup the bills to have you in London as a married woman.

You will also need to support the source of 1M you have with evidence since you don't work at the moment.

As a youth corper are you allowed to take foreign trip?

If you can answer all these questions then go ahead and apply and read up the requirements here in this thread

Transferwise is very good and is what I use if rhemito is not available as they often have the second best rate.
Not really though their transfer speed is good but rate is not that good because their commission increases while Azimo remains the same no matter the amount you are sending. Transferwise is good if you are sending anything £1-£100, Azimo transfer speed is frustrating.

I have been using them for about 2 years now. They had some issues with their system and were off for a long time but recently resumed transfers. It takes around an hour or less for the funds to hit the account.

Then they are better than Azimo and transferwise
