The number 1 aim of every citizen is to have a house of their own,how many can buy a house cash down without CREDIT? You are wrong, I don't have bad spending habit and I don't like credit card. |

UKmigrant: As I understand, having credit card and using it wisely is like building a financial reputation, it is beneficial in the long run as people who can lend you have a background with which to judge you when you need their help. On the other hand, not having a credit card or having one and not using it means that you cannot prove to anyone that you can be trusted with money so you are confined to only living within your income and you can't even have cover in times of emergency.
Most of the rich men we know don't even live within their income, they depend on borrowing to run their businesses.
While on paper, not having one or not using it might seem like a wise thing to do, you have no safety net. My credit card is my back up in times of emergency, that's just how I see it and I intend to use it to build a very good credit score within the next one year. That is irresponsible, living above your means and at the end you lose everything paying back. My argument is not that credit card is not good but my point is that I can live without one. |

maternal: This is not about living within your means. This is about building and maintaining a good credit score in the west through credit card. Therefore, that allows you to do other things. You may be surviving but you're definitely not maximizing the countries full benefits. Honestly you have a very poor knowledge of life, yes this is about living within your means and not living for the system. No matter what your credit score is, you still need to earn it to spend it. I used to have contract phone and after 3yrs I cancelled it and went back to pay as you go, then two years ago I needed an upgrade and decided to get the phone on contract but I was refused because of poor credit score. If I had gotten that contract it would have set me back about £450 a year through monthly fees and upfront payment. Then I went online and bought that phone for £300 and still maintain my pay as you go. If you want to get crippled by system then that's up to you but don't dare tell me that I can't survive without one. |

signature2012: You are very very wrong.Yes is called a credit card and the fund in it is meant for spending. You cant reside in the western world without a credit card, you just have to be a prudent spender and not an impulse buyer just because you have a credit card.
Let me use your illustration.Your credit card limit is $3000 for example,to have a good credit score, you are not suppose to spend more than 65% of that money which is $1,950 every month.
If your minimum payment happens to be $50 every month,to avoid charges,it will be for your own good to pay back in full the exact amount you spent from your credit card and not the minimum payment($50).
Do this for good 6 - 9 months and see how your credit limit will rise to $10,000 or more with juicy offers knocking on your door with mostly 0 APR,and your credit score in the range of 750 -850.
Now back to your advise using debit card,is it not same money you intend to spend from credit card you will also spend using your debit card?So why not just spend it from you credit card in which will make you have better offers if you want to get a car, house etc than spending from your debit card with not benefit to gain.
The major problem people have with credit card is impulse spending or lack of finance management. That is when debt start piling up and it makes them run bankrupt. Why not? |

Lamakinde: @Justwise, there is a court ruling around July/August in Nigeria that nullifies Local Government Marriage certificates. I will try to check any link related to that. Lamakinde: Please read the link below, it was in May 2017 thereabouts http://thenigerialawyer.com/court-declares-ikeja-local-government-and-other-local-governments-marriage-certificate-unconstitutional/ I believe they ware challenging it but yet to see any link related to that yet. foxyvisa: The ongoing court case has been this year 2017. So previous applications before the sanctions from ministry of interiors won't be affected. I pray British embassy doesn't include this in their requirements. This is clearer now though the British embassy hasn't updated or mentioned this on their website so I'm not sure it will affect anyone who submitted local government marriage certificate |

Ramj: My Take on all these is that - Nairaland is an open forum and unfortunately nothing you and I can do about that. Most wont be here it it was a closed or secret Forum
2. Agents are there because people will use them and nothing you and I can do about it. Despite the info here many still use agents for many reasons. Nothing you and I can do about their decision.
3. If because of agents and ghost readers and all sorts we all stop sharing info that brought this thread this far, then..... i dont know ooo
4. Price increase like CC is painful but ..... Sometimes i believe it would help remembwr that this thread grww because pwople explored and shared. everyone can go back to work. And thats what we should encourage. Its optional in the long run. A lake becomes stall a river remains fresh - Selah
5. This thread has made many see the possibility of birthing in US and doing it right. If we are not tactful like Wikipedia we might just soon drive down this thread.
6. Lets respond rather than react which is what is happening. Rather than lay blames lets encourage each other to make further research and explore and encourage to share if you wanna.
Mamas and papas have shared in the past even down to all last prices.. It shouldnt be a crime now
@Justwise many are getting lost and frustrated as to the purpose of this thread. As the Moderator there is need to be tactful. If we want people to do findings there is a way to go about it. If not na so so PMs we go dey see. Please think about it.
Je m'appelle Ramj What do you want me to think about? Explain to you the purpose of this thread after 6 yrs of existence? |

deebaby05: If the applicant has savings that can boost the financial requirement, then he or she will need to include bank statement. It's even in the financial form (question like 'does your savings, pensions etc with sponsors salary meet the financial requirement?). I had to add my savings to exceed the financial requirement for myself and 3 kids since hubbys annual salary cannot cover for all of us. meanwhile the bulk amounts needs to be explained with proof so they don't think somebody borrowed one the money. That's slightly different case as your contribution will help your sponsor meet the financial requirement, outside that I don't see the need if the sponsor meets the financial requirement. |

joygirl2017: Am really sorry senior justwise like to come in there . When I was applying I went through people's application I saw they got letter from land lord that its okay for their spouse to live there even on this platform cos some landlord might just want only one tentant . Even us we got the tenancy agreement and a letter that he is aware of my coming and he is fine with it . That lettter from landlord wont be bad . You might have added that and got your visa because you saw other people who did, however many did not add it and still get their visas. If i'm renting 1 or 2 bedroom flat and paying all my bills why would i need to ask the landlord if my wife can live with me? If my rent is bills inclusive or in case of multiple occupant accommodation then i will need a letter from my landlord because additional person will increase the bills. |

This spells doom for those intending to use their certificates at embassies.
I'm still wondering why nobody has been refused based on this for the pat 7-8 yrs i have been here, does it mean that they all submitted marriage certificate from federal registry court? We will keep researching about this. Good job from you though. |

Aphrodite007: I think I read it somewhere that the embassy doesn’t recognise local government marriage certs. It’s might have been under this topic or elsewhere. Regardless, if the federal republic of Nigeria doesn’t recognise weddings conducted but the LGs (because they have been labelled unfit to conduct marriage ceremonies by the govt) then I don’t think it’s safe to assume that the UK would recognise the LGs. I'm coming across this for the first time, hopefully people who have used local gvt registry will help out with personal experience. |

edmasta01: Wow...I cant believe I sat through 4 hours reading through this entire thread to get more information about giving birth in the USA.
Now that I am done....my head is "bursting"...lol.
After waiting 7 years, I and my "madam" are expecting our first baby in January 2018 (through CS - I know this due to previous medical history) and we are looking to give birth in Maryland (that's where we have families).
We both have British Passport (which means we can visit the US from the UK for up to 3 months without applying for a Visa - Although we do need to fill out an Esta Form to notify the US Border Control We are coming).
Has anyone on this thread gone through this route before?
To be honest, I am not keen on giving birth in America (as I know the baby will get a British Citizen and the hospital fees is free in the UK as We pay national insurance for this already).
But "madam" really wants to do this, and I am happy to make it happen (I am so excited...will finally be a dad!)
I did some research myself, and found Mercy Medical Centre (who won't take wifey at 35 weeks when I called to enquire). John Hopkins Hospital is astronomical in prices and a few others I rang personally ranged in prices between $10,000 - $15,000.
Will be ringing a few others e.g. Holy cross next week Monday to get more information too...
Has anyone used any hospital in the Maryland area that is affordable? Please "help a brother". So when your child grows up and start working he/she will start paying income tax to two govt? British and American govt.. Why would a British citizen need an American passport or travel to US to give birth when its free in the UK? Even if you don't pay NI or don't work at all NHS services is still free. |

Lamakinde: Remember to chose settlement - Husband or Wife Actually we all learnt through reading up because of different circumstances relating to each applicant. For starters as the applicant, you will need your sponsor to be earning £18600/annum if you are without child or if your child is a British citizen. With a child it increases to £22,400 and additional £2400 for subsequent child. Docs from Sponsor and needed by Applicant P60 of that year Six months account statement Payslips Letter from the employer on letter head signed stating the year of employment, Remuneration Utility bills e.g.Council tax, energy Letter from Landlord /Receipts of payment stating he/she is domiciled at the residence and permitted to live with the spouse. Communication Proof (Phone records from service provider , WhatsApp conversations, Facebook chats, IMO e.t.c. Original Marriage certificate (Not Nigerian local govt) Federal Marriage Registry or UK recognised. English language Proficiency (Either IELTS life skills A or if you have a UK degree or You can process a UK NARIC assessment of your Nigerian Degree taught in English) Original Tuberculosis Test (You can do this at IOM i.e. International Organisation for Migration) Lots of pictures at every meeting point, marriage pictures etc. Copies of visas stamp for all travelling to meet. Letter from Applicants employer if employed Bank statement( just to show you have a life) All docs is original. Lest I forget, docs from self employed sponsor differs a little. The applicant doesn't need to add his or her own bank statement or letter from employer, the sponsor needs to submit all that. Tenancy agreement is enough you don't need to add receipt of rent payment. If you are renting 1 or two bedroom flat you don't need a letter from your landlord allowing your wife or husband to live with you, show me where that is mentioned as a requirement. You only need a letter from landlord in the case of multiple occupation accommodation |

Aphrodite007: I did a master’s in the uk, so I don’t need to take the test, but the test is very important.
