Dbbanks: Good day lovely people, I would like to ask a few questions about the ILR application. I came to Uk under the pre-eu settlement scheme and will be 5 years in September. I’m getting married by month end and curious to know if this can affect my 5 application for ILR being successful. Also, do I need to keep using my parents address or it’s alright to use my husband’s during the application. Getting married will not affect your application, use your current address if documents you will be submitting for the application has the address. |

Jamesclooney: Thanks for speaking our collective minds. Moderator also needs to take responsibility, he/she needs to be wake up and not get carried away with all the political debate and pontificating. How does the protest debate that went on here go against the topic of this thread? Many are expressing their outrage/ anger/ frustration about the protest which affected many immigrants in the UK and some of you are complaining about the discussion? Not every topic discussed here that will interest everyone, you look away if you are not interested you ignore those who are expressing their concerns. This thread is not one topic thread. |

I hope future landlords, subject to extra cash + mortgage terms, would cultivate the habit of overpayments .......😲😞 When you overpay does it automatically adjust the repayment year? |

Cyberknight: Slightly more than half of the UK's population take out more from the system than they pay in in taxes, whether or not they are receiving cash back from the government in the form of what we commonly think of as "'benefits''. Non-cash benefits in the form of how much it costs the government to educate one child in school (for those who have children), or how much to cover an average GP or hospital visit are also included. Definitely some people will take out more than they put in but as long as they work and pay into the system i don't consider them benefit scroungers. A lot of new immigrants pay double tax but take very little from the system, Someone from Africa can arrive in this country today and within days have managed to get a job, work hard to a better life while someone who was born here is giving million and one excuses why he is unable to get a job. |

Cyberknight: Debatable.
In a manner of speaking, everyone in the UK who is dependent to an extent on the state (includes all of us who rely on the NHS or on state education for our children, etc.) is on benefits. If you work and pay into the system then its not benefit. You are basically taking from what you paid into |

Cyberknight: Various reasons. Some are full-time carers. Some are women/parents who have dropped out of the workforce to raise children. Quite a few older people left work during Covid and decided to start their retirement from there. There are some who were self-employed outside IR35 and got sick of the whole IR35 thing and don't bother working (or declaring income) anymore and just do their own thing. There are also people who want to work but cannot access jobs - they may be in towns/villages where there are few opportunities but can't travel/commute/relocate to where jobs are either because they can't afford to or there is no available transport (high cost of train fares, for instance) or they have support networks they cannot leave or the tight housing market won't allow it.
The actual number of people who are the Telegraph's enemies, i.e. so-called persons on benefits who supposedly actually can work is debatable. Yeah..common man.. you know that all you listed above is too much of excuses not to get a job. If there is no benefit all you mentioned here will not stop even a disabled person from getting a job. benefit money is good to a large number of them, take away benefit then the story wil be different |

VictorMessi1: Sir Justwise, respect to you as the moderator.
But intention to return to your home country must have been established during the interview for the VO to approve his visa. No, it doesn't work that way with student visa, visiting visa yes home ties matters but this is not the case with student visa because the visa gives you the avenue to explore other opportunities within and outside US. When VO asked about your plan after graduation that question is not specifically about returning back to Nigeria. |

Did you tell the VO that you were going to stay back after your studies that earned you 60k dollars/year? While God does work with faith... that isn't the case here. It is not faith to lie about having enough funds to study, then proceed to the US and get stranded, looking for illegal loopholes to stay afloat. That same God also said: Luke 14:28,29 “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him.” |

Even the one next door to you, 99.9% of those Facebook market cars are from scammers, try and contact one of them and see. Run if they ask for deposit or promise to deliver it to you if you pay for fuel or some mileage. If you must go to view it make sure you go with someone who can also drive and run a check using the registration number before going to view it. You can also do google reverse image search just to know if that car picture was taken from a different location. |

The main issue people are having with your comment which you seems not to grab is the timing of your arguments. It should come later when it is all calm and not at the moment when POC are living in fear being harmed or maimed.
If your family were in the position of harm during this riot, I believe you wouldn’t come here defending why they were being attacked.
An important aspect of emotional intelligence is timing. I;m totally with you on this, i got no prob with Zahra's view on this but i have prob with the timing. Let me also say this for a record, we need people that see things differently like Zahra and put it out without personal attack. |

jedisco: Thank you for this, I find it soul destroying when I see black folks take a guilty look when migration is discussed. Despite the fact that a miniscule number of Africans have ever left their abode, it's somehow made out that moving around is a privilege to us but a right to others
Like I said previously, the more I know about human history, the more unapologetic I become about migration. Reminds me of a chat I had with a white British folk at my workplace. Chap was trying to insinuate a grand plan to get people from Africa into the US. (I.e illegal migration). I told him that being British, he should more than everyone else know migration is as old as man. You don't like my presence, too bad, I don't care.
To Gerard who talked about deporting 2nd gen... like I asked, how far back do we go? Should Australia/U.S or Cad start deporting White folks back to Europe? This post captured my thought about the two characters you mentioned, so no needed repeating it again. Goodenoch: But just to clear the air with regard to why I (I'm not speaking for anyone else) won't engage with Treadway or Gerard - it's simply because I consider them unfit to engage.
One of them a few pages ago was calling people here apes unprovoked. Nobody insulted him or anything. The other one manages to weave potshots at Muslims into every post. I made the decision not to engage either one for any reason since then.
I'm happy to debate and disagree however strongly but I'll not speak with people whose baseline is disrespect or bigotry and contribute to this place becoming an online beer parlor. |

We all know who the natives are, you are just a British passport holder the indigenes know themselves. It does 110% natives or not. Surely indigenes know themselves but they share equal right with black/ Asian British passport holder. Sadiq Khan, has been the mayor of London since 9 May 2016. to be re -elected over and over again shows that those with your view are in the minority What this racist thugs are doing is not different from what some tribes in Nigeria are doing during this #EndBadGovernance, many used the opportunity to call for Igbos to leave Lagos, even before this protest Igbos have faced harsh treatment in Lagos in particular, norther part is another story completely. |

I agree.
The UK is such a terrible, racist place.
1 million immigrants a year is far too small. They need to stop moaning and as reparations for colonisation, they ought to throw open the borders and welcome everyone who wants to come - via air, sea and land. No checks or controls should be necessary as all immigrants are good, honest and a positive contribution. I know but why will you bother to check if the rumours is true or false? He is black so the rumour most be true. |

Zahra29: No I don't.
I believe the ONLY factor at play in the mind of white Brits is race/racism. No other issues or concerns whatsoever.
The average white Brit is fascist, anti-immigrant, not to mention lazy and benefit scrounging. The fact that protests/ riots (including others like Harehills) are taking place in areas known to be deprived/in need of levelling up, is purely coincidental.
But as soon as the police round up these far right thugs and put them in prison (hopefully very soon), Britain will return to a paradise - prosperous, safe, equal, harmonious and integrated communities everywhere from Teeside to Chelsea, noone on benefits, there'll be plenty of money to go around - we can spend even more on "asylum hotels" and open one in every town and city.
We won't even need Parliament much as there'll be no issues to discuss or solve. Instead we can all congregate at Dover and lorry ports to welcome the increasing number of migrants arriving by boat and lorry. Perhaps the BAME community can even sign up to house them like the Ukrainian refugees were housed. You sarcastically saying the quiet part out loud, if Axel Rudakubana was a 17 years old white boy do you think the protest will happen? The UK should be the last country on planet earth to moan about immigration, the UK approximately colonized 105 countries, killed, displaced and looted as they go. |

Zahra29: And what goes to the local community for the public services needed to cater for the new residents? I'm not saying asylum seekers should not be provided for, but let's be reasonable - they are physical beings, not spirits, and they require access to hospitals, schools, GPs, probably mental health services, employment and L & D services for those eligible to work and more. Is the government making these funds available to the council or is it only the hotel owners that are cashing out? Govt can save money by getting able bodied off their lazy backside and into work, single mothers/fathers with more than two kids should start looking into family planning . Govt should stop getting involved or dragged into foreign wars by America. Govt can spend on local communities even with the money spent on asylum. |
