Some go back because they can't stay within the law here, Nigeria is a scam heaven and they can afford to cheat and get away with it.

maternal: I know these people. Ndi "let's go save Nigeria". They'll come abroad, get a foreign passport then "go" home to help out. Most of the time their immediate family stays behind, and if they come they're one plane ride away. It's a win win situation for them. Yet they have the mouth to tell people who only have that useless green passport not to go look for a better life abroad. Ask them to denounce their Canadian, American, uk, or Australian passport dey go shout. My life including my children's would be finished if I stayed. Both my parents would also be 6 feet under as they have medical issues which the typical incompetent nigerian doctor couldn't solve. Survival is human nature. Let those who want to migrate, migrate. And if they decide not to comeback and help leave them alone. After all Nigeria didn't do anything for them, now you want them to spend their prime years helping to fix a country which has never cared for them.
Don't take them seriously, they traveled, collected foreign passport then return back to preach patriotism, if boko haram throw even fireworks at their back yard they will be first to board the next available flight back to the west

Chinom: Dont mind them jare.. i can see through their pain. Some Nigerians will suck a white man's blockus just to obtain that resident permit, then pretend to be happy. Maybe you read about what 2 dirty white men did to a Nigerian girl in Belgium. They used her for snuff sex. She died, all in her quest to live in Europe.

Oh... are we so happy in Europe and THe US.
Just like you did to get your kids red passport.

majekdom2: thanks for accepting this fact ... as long as Nigeria is called "useless" , you are directly termed "useless" ... you may say it changes nothing because you may be useful at the moment but whichever , your future would always be traced to nigeria like mrmeto or so said , his problem is the way some peeps talk down nigeria like everyone there is evil.
Please don't be offended but what is wrong with you? Come on now..you are a degree holder

Chinom: FYI all our founding fathers travelled out. From Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo to Tafewa Balewa amongst others. But they came back to That 'Shithole' called Nigeria to make it better. Travelling out has never been the problem. Many Nigerians travelled out in the 60s, 70s and 80s for studies. Most of them came back. They never complained and rubbished Nigeria the way some of you here are doing that.

You can choose to reserve a grave for yourself in The US, UK or Europe. That's your personal decision. But please do not make us believe that you did that because Nigeria is a 'Useless' country. A place you cannot afford to be buried in. Thank you.
Yes Nigeria is, which other language do you want me to translate that to? Have you got problem with honesty?

majekdom2: who makes nigeria nigeria , they are those families and friends ... you cant tell me none of your friends have got no relatives or friends in government.... take it or leave it .... you are a nigerian and if nigeria is seen useless by people abroad because of those who have constituted themselves as nuisances , then you are seen as useless also.

I'm a Nigerian by default and i can't change that but what i can change is how much i allow that to affect my future. Its a personal journey and i have started it without Nigeria.

majekdom2: bro , it used to ... may be changed now , I dont know. and yes , I maynot have heard about the southafrican drug case because the cases are not as rampant as the Nigerians. thats my point. which ever it is we dont have to support crime. dont take it personal bro , we are doing great stuffs here. you dont know if there is someone on this thread who would have been in jail in some months time but reading this would give hime a change of actions.
Yes they used to and that was years ago you can't use that to support your argument.

Listen bro don't make excuses for the bad state Nigeria is today, Nigeria is poor because she is rich and that is the biggest problem we have in Nigeria. I never voted in any election in Nigeria because my vote will not count and will not make a change, they will always select the highest bidder.

Don't preach to me about building Nigeria and making it better because Nigeria have done nothing for me, actually being a Nigerians is a liability.

My proprieties are my family and friends.

pansophist: So why did your children carry red passport if you consider Nigeria the best place? why not passport from other African countries at least?

It surprises me how you tend to stretch on the basis as to why people choose/willing to migrate elsewhere. Everyone will not follow your school of thought, everyone have the choice and decision to make when it comes to when to spend their life, its human nature to migrate so what the big deal? If you realize that major countries all around the world are hosting people from geographical areas thousand of miles away, why this level of closemindedness?

And if you think it is because it is too expensive to come back home, then you are dwelling in delusion and only you can reddem yourself from it
Don't mind that poster, what a 2 faced individual we have here.

Chinom: Lots of folks here are terribly frustrated that they are not able to live in Nigeria. It's very convinient to use the children as an excuse. Children have always been an acceptable ecsape route. Settling in Naija no be beans. You cannot be on welfare or get everything for the children free. From education, to healthcare and even clothes. In Nigeria you pay for your luxuries. So, to live "comfortably" in Nigeria you will need a lot of capital. Everyone has their own defination of what ' Comfortable " means. My children all carry Red passports. I have my reasons for choosing to raise them in Nigeria. When they are 18 and above, they can choose whether to remain in Nigeria or relocate to the West. My gut feeling tells me that they will stay in Nigeria. Because Nigeria can only get better.
I still maintain my stand that 95% of Nigerians in the Diaspora will return to Nigeria with their families if they can AFFORD it. It's not cheap to relocate.
Aren't you a hypocrite? Your kids got red passport and you are here writing pages about living in Nigeria? I guess you made the choice of securing your kids future then return back to Nigeria because you knew very well that they have plan B. if you love Nigeria so much why did you bother leaving Nigeria and getting your kids red passport to start with? Allow others to travel out, get their own foreign passport then decide whether to return back to Nigeria or not. That is their choice and not yours.

majekdom2: Thanks much bro , only the matured minds would see this. some naija brothers go even deny you abroad. we talk about Nigeria like it is not made up of people. the Nigerians commiting crimes abroad are they not Nigerians. I have not heard of southafricans who even go to the UK visa free alleged of commiting crimes some of our naija brothers commit. we need to understand changing a nation starts with every individual and not talking down the nation itself .
The UK visa free for South Africans? I always knew that your knowledge about traveling is as old as Nigeria.

Amdan: @justwise. The visa fee of N86k+ does it include the fee for TB test or would I pay USD130 for TB separate and N86k+ separate for visa processing? Also, is there a waiver in the visa or TB test fee for dependants e.g. wife, baby etc or are the fees same across board for both student and dependants (whether young or adult)?
MallamYahaya: I applied for myself, my wife and my four months baby. I used paga to pay so the cost for application was N92,220 each.
For the TB test however, there is a discount for children under 11. Adults pay about 22,500 while children pay about N8,000. Please send a mail to either IOM Lagos or Abuja and you will get a response.
deoluwatinto: The fee for d TB test is not part of d visa fee, $530 for d visa fee and $130 for d TB test. And it is compulsory for every one who would be staying for more than six months in the UK young or old. The fee for the TB test for young children I think is not as much as DAT though.

Fresh38: Hello JustWise,
Please I need your advice on my first UK Visa application process. I've about four other visas from three different countries on my old passport. I just did a renewal this year. I'm actually going for my graduation programme in december. I did the course online. I've read articles on supporting documents but I want to know if my marriage certificate can be replaced with a certified true copy because I can't find the original one. Then my partner is self-employed. He has his own company. I don't know all the documents I need to get from him to act as supporting documents to my application. He's not going with me on the said trip. I also want to know if my savings a little over N1m will be okay for this application. I'm just staying for ten days. My savings are basically my salaries in months and deposits less than 100k from my partner. Are they classified as lump sums? I've not done any withdrawal from the said account in 6months. Is that okay for financial statement? I also have properties bought in my name by my parents. Can I tender the documents?? I'm not comfy with that because I work in the public sector although the properties were bought by my parent. Do I also need a consent letter attached to the certified true copy if I can use a certified true copy of my marriage certificate? I did the certified true copy some days ago. I don't know if that's sufficient for this application. I hope to hear from you in this regard. Thank you.
1. How much is your monthly salary?

2. Yes you can use certified copy of your marriage certificate as long as its genuine.

3. You can include the property documents if they are in your name

4. Is your hubby company registered and he pays tax from it?

Chinom: Of course you would. that's not a surprise. You belong to the less than 5% Nigerians who will remain in the west if they make it big.

Many would leave if they can manage to gather $100,000 together. I've done a random survey. However, it's very very important if we remain true to ourselves. There is no shame in one admitting that finances are keeping him back.

P:S- I don't have any problem with guys who choose to live in the West. I frequent the West myself a lot. But they should save us all the rantings about Nigeria being a useless country. You are free to live where you like.
Yes i will make the bulk of my investment here, doing it in Nigeria will endanger the life of my family and loved ones. I will visit Nigeria as much as i want but will not be stupid enough to invest my life savings in Nigeria, its not safe simple. Patriotism? put that in the bin, my priorities comes first

christopher123: If I travel especially to UK I see how Nigerians live their lives there and the worst part is they are so ashamed to come home

How can a decent man be living on state benefits and your just a second class citizen weather you love it or not

Your current bro
If you don't know what state benefit is just zip it and learn. State benefit is a safety net for people looking for job or disabled and for nursing mothers. White, black and brown British citizen and people with permanent stay are entitled to it and when they get a job or healthy enough to work then the benefit will be stopped. There is nothing like second class citizen about it.

Chinom: I have deliberately avoided this thread because i'm sick and tired of the same line of arguement over and over. Nigerians stuck in de diaspora would continue to justify their stay in US, Uk and Europe by castigating, insulting, degrading and rubbishing Nigeria as a country.
No single one of them will tell us their PERSONAL reason for living Nigeria for good. It's always the same chorus of " Nigeria is a shithole, Nothing works, No power, no roads ..bla bla bla". They are mostly not true to themselves. They hide behind cliches.
I have a question for all Diaspora Nigerians. Give an honest especially to yourself. Do not answer to legitimize your stay in the diaspora or for the sake of winning an arguement. I'm not interested in that. Answer from the deepest of your soul.

Here is the question. IF YOU SHOULD WIN A LOTTERY JACKPOT OF $25M IN THE US, UK OR EUROPE, WOULD YOU STILL CHOOSE TO LIVE THERE OR MAKE MOVES TO RELOCATE TO NIGERIA.

Honest answers please.
I will stay even longer here if i won a lottery today

IyawoToBe: Vicjustice, there is something called courtesy. When you are quoted and you don't have an answer for the person, simply just say it. Rather than ignoring your mentions. It just makes you come off as proud and haughty undecided undecided undecided
This is not the right way to go about things, every single person here helping to advice even if its a single line is trying to help free of charge and they all have their own problems, life outside nairaland and may not reply to all questions directed at them all the time and as quick as you want it.

Vicjustice has been helping people here even before i became a member of nairaland, he is the only one that is still doing it 7yrs now

A reminder would have been better than trying to be rude.
