Obatide: Mr. Justwise
Thanks for your contributions & moderation of the threads which have been a good source of Information that is helping us.
I quite understand your submission to the ongoing debate and I must even thank you for allowing such debate to see the light of the day.
However, the topic has been revised as suggested by forumites not to take care of only DV issues, hence:
Preparation for migration and settling down in the USA after Visa approval is adopted.
Without repeating what has been said earlier, the purpose of the one you referred us to is:

Whereby this one will bridge the gap between the two threads

If we talk of multiple threads, there wouldn’t be: 2014 Dv winners meet here because all what we are discussing here have been discussed in other threads before, but for relevance and update purpose, You created it and its working. Why don’t you allow for more sir? Or create it by yourself, I don’t mind and you will see how it will grow.(mind you, no thread can be everlasting but serves a purpose)

You can have my best assurance that it’s not about creating a class as you assumed, but to share and get prompt answers to questions asked by concerned. I therefore appeal that you revisit your Decision sir.
To my fellow mates, pls let’s respect the person of Mr. Justwise and address the issue at hand only, remember that even within the house, we have earlier argued on the need for and against before agreement, so I see this as the next hurdle to cross. God bless us all
The common denominator from people who want the new thread to be created is that they want..'their own' thread and i detest that impression.

Regarding Preparation for migration and settling down in the USA after Visa approval as a thread, the second part of that title...and settling down in the USA after Visa approval has already been discussed in that thread and the first part...Preparation for migration can only be advised by people in that thread because they have gone through the process and got more knowledge in that aspect than me and you.

There is no need for another thread dealing with those subject areas because we have a thread that can accommodate that already.

I'm not bothered about creates thread here in travel section as long as the thread adds something new to what we have already.

That is not a good reason to create another thread when we have one already.

Deleting a duplicated thread makes a lot of sense to me

rudedough: If you had read my 1st comment, i talked about a salary of £20,000 (Approximately N400,000 a month) which sound like a good pay to Nigerians but it's not a good pay when you're living in the UK. And that gave birth to the comparison of livelihood.

I also stated clearly that the UK have security of life, a conducive environment and a working administrative system. Hoping that the Nigeria Govt will fix our power and infrastructure so that long lost Nigerians can return home.

No one made any comparison of standards here. Every comparison i made are of our everyday livelihood, food prices in particular and housing. We shouldn't talk about standards at all cos i never talked about it.

Or are we going to be comparing the standards of Bananas, bread, Cigarette, Titus fish? If you compare livelihood, you will agree with me that if you earn N1000 in the UK and someone earns N200 in Nigeria, you both will be affording the same livelihood.
You don't answer question put to you.... do you think that the cost of living will not affect the standard of living? Or they are not interlinked?

Are you sure you have ever lived in the UK? Ever heard of bills inclusive rent?

rudedough: ....and who's comparing the standard of life? I thought the discussion was about the cost of living in the UK and Nigeria. Hence i said the cost of living in the UK and the high taxes is modern day slavery.

My comparison is solely based on the fact that if you earn N1000 in the UK and someone earn N200 in Nigeria, you both will be affording the same livelihood. So i don't know where you guys got the "standard of living", "medical attention", maintenance et al from.

What are you guys arguing about? The discussion is about the cost of living and not the standard of living. Or did i say otherwise? Please review my posts once again. If you have any contribution to make, feel free to do so but please don't quote me out of context.

Thanks and happy new year.
Seriously do you think that the cost of living will not affect the standard of living? Or they are not interlinked?

femishow2005: Happy New year 2014 everyone!
As regard creation of new thread or not. I've been reading everyone comments on this subject matter and my views is this.

(1) Flight booking
(2) Comprehensive list of what is expected to travel with
(3) Clothing and wears
(4) What of life and career in USA
(5) Driving procedure
(6) Issue of Hosts

The above listed subjects is what we plan to dealt with isn't it? Now I don't think we may need to create any thread cos all these issues had been dealt with on

https://www.nairaland.com/1058937/diversity-visa-immigrant-welcome-america

Of course I know item 1-2 wasn't discussed much there but we can continue from there. I know most guys in that thread all usually busy but we can continue our discussion there and they will come and chip in things at there free time don't forget they're more experience than us. No need to create any thread let just continue helping each other on that thread.

Justwise is the moderator ..he has already advised that we should read and continue with that thread. Let's make the thread lively back.

Cheers
Exactly my point!!, the same problem last year, so much noise were made about creating a new thread but after it was created and they all left for USA the thread was deserted, so its not going to happen again this year, we have to keep one thread for such purpose and keep it growing for everybody, no division.

rudedough: smiley Happy New Year. I'll say i agree with you partially too cos i know a lot of Nigerians who're hoping to move back to Nigeria should the Govt provide basic amenities. And trust me, they will never return, myself included. England is over rated and the cost of living is crazy. Honestly, people just work for the Govt and that was what i meant by "Modern day Slavery".

I did a comparison of the purchasing power of the Naira against the Pounds Sterling in their respective economy and i got a ratio of 1:4. See graph below.
...and after your cheap banana and self contain house next to gutter what is the life expectancy of people living in Nigeria as compare to those living in the UK? I will tell you...as of 2011 life expectancy of people living in Nigeria is 51.86 and in the same year its 80.75 for people living in the UK

Now that is the evidence of good living.
Travel › Re: Is It Advisable To Settle In The United Kingdom After Studies by justwise(mod): 7:36am On Jan 01, 2014
rudedough: I have met a lot of people like you who compare living standards using face values without analyzing the long term effect.

If you rent a furnished studio apartment in the UK for N200k per quarter, that's a total of N800k per year.

However, If i rent a room self contain in Nigeria for N200k for the whole year, I'll still have a difference of N600k to furnish my room with. And N600k can get me even more exotic gadgets.

At the end of the year, you will be moving out of the house with your bags only, while i will be moving out with N600k worth of properties.

So please tell me again who's "exposing how little he knows about life"? Stop living in self denial Sir, take my advice.
So in your own estimate N600k will take care of bed, wardrobe, fridge, cooker, microwave, internet connection, gas, electricity and water for a year? You really need help.
Travel › Re: Is It Advisable To Settle In The United Kingdom After Studies by justwise(mod): 9:24pm On Dec 31, 2013
rudedough: Sir, you're still living in self denial. I gave a ratio example of 4:1 which means that the cost of living in the UK is approximately 300% above that of Nigeria.

Examples are:

A star and flat screw-driver in the UK cost N200, in Nigeria its N50 - Increase by 300%

A Bunch of banana that would cost N100 in Nigeria cost about N600 in the UK - An increase of 500%

Titus Fish that i usually buy in Lagos for N80-N100 sells for N550 in the UK - Increase of over 400%.

I could get a room self contain on the mainland in Lagos for about 200k a year meanwhile 200k can only rent me a studio apartment for only 3 months in the UK. And I haven't compared Utility.

In that sense, if you earn N1000 Naira in the UK and another man earn N200 in Nigeria, you both will be affording the same quality of life. So stop living a lie and curb that ego sir.
The more you post the more you exposes how little you know about life in general, on what bases are you comparing cost of living in the UK to that of Nigeria? These two countries are like two parallel lines, the systems are structured completely different from each other, you compare 'like' to 'like', you don't compare day and night.

If i'm moving in to studio accommodation which will cost me 200k quarterly in the UK, i'm moving in with just my bag because the room is furnished already, bed, cooker, fridge, microwave, and every other thing needed is already there, but in Nigeria you buy all that, when you add all that together then you know the true cost of the self contain in Nigeria, not this primary one calculation you came up with here
Travel › Re: Is It Advisable To Settle In The United Kingdom After Studies by justwise(mod): 8:54pm On Dec 31, 2013
rudedough: On the contrary, I went there to study. I did that and got out without submitting a single job application in the UK. I'm still studying though but in SE Asia.

So, unlike your presumption, I had no intention of making it big in the UK. I'm only sharing my opinion on the high cost of living and taxation down there. It's modern day slavery.

Also, you mentioned health care, education and feeding. Does these benefits apply to immigrants or citizens? My tuition fee covers my health insurance and my education was paid for in full. Feeding too. So how does the high cost of living and taxes benefit me?

Until you stop living in self denial, you'll never retrace your root. If you earn N1000 Naira in the UK and another man earn N200 Naira in Nigeria. You both will be affording the same quality of life. Tell yourself the truth.

Like I said, if Nigeria can get her power right, long lost brothers, sisters and uncles will start returning home. The UK hype is overrated.

This is coming from an educated individual? Do you know my root and how in touch iam with my family? What is your level of education because you are shockingly, shockingly bad, so if i earned equivalent of N1000 naira in the UK which is about £4 and you earned N200 in Nigeria which is less than 50p, we both will affording the same quality of life? You made a very good decision to leave the UK

ItyRoyal: Many thanks to @justwise for your views....but I believe we have gone past whether we need the new thread or not...the issue here is actually the right topic to call the new thread. but like Darhmee has rightly pointed out, we can't just bump into that thread you mentioned and start asking questions. We are familiar with ourselves and wud be willing to sacrifice for each other where need be. Also, there is absolutely no way the new thread can be scanty because about 70% of us are still in Nigeria and of coz at the preparatory phase.

I wish everyone of us a happy and favor filled 2014!

See you next year family.... smiley
That is a very selfish mind-set, nobody owns a thread here, threads here belongs to everybody and anybody is allowed to jump into any thread and ask question(s), lets not create exclusive class here, such division will kill the sharing spirit that exist here.

rudedough: I understand now, and I'm sorry for misinterpreting you. I bloody hate the hype about the UK, I hate it because I lived and studied there for years. There's no social life there, just busy people working as slaves for the Government.

I've come to realise that a white man cannot do without slaves and since the abolition of slavery, they have turned against themselves to recreate the modern day slaves.

Well, this is my personal opinion and the opinion of most Nigerians i'm friends with both in the UK and SE Asia. If the Nigeria Government can provide power only for a start, I can guarantee a 30% of Nigerians living abroad returning home within the 1st 2 years.

Let's cut the pretence, do you agree with me or not?
Of course i disagree with you, you are just like many Nigerians who come to the UK with the hope of hitting it 'big' by all means within short time and when they failed the whiteman-slavery job bandwagon starts.
Many Nigerians struggle to survive in the UK because they are not used to living in an organized society with defined value system.

Yes people in the UK may work and pay alot of tax to the govt but that money is put into good use, that tax deducted from your pay is for your health care, security, education, feeding(for those on benefit) etc. People appreciate quality of life here, i'm not sure about Nigeria.

I for one have like 4 threads opened permanently in my phone's browser that all I do is refresh every 1 hour max..

@justwise.. the thread u talked about does not address things this new thread will address and as a matter of fact, we cant just go there and start asking questions.. we need OUR OWN thread just like we have this one.. we are familiar with each other and trust me, the thread wont be scanty or empty..
Morealso, im sure we all know that Mr Obatide is just trying to be of help and assistant and not that they give money or bonuses to whoever creates a thread smiley

This is just my opinion..

Happy New Year in advance.. May the good Lord be with us all
That is not a good mind-set in a sharing forum like this, there is nothing like 'their own' or 'our own' thread, you don't need to start a thread to be able to play a major role in that thread.

Since we have a related thread why not go there and ask your questions? We don't need to create a new thread every year dealing with the same thing.

rudedough: Are you sure you've lived or live in the UK? How could you not know that you get to pay over £100 per annum for TV license to own a TV set? Or don't you have a TV in your house?

These are the unique unannounced things Nigerians enjoy back home. Apart from life security, a working system and a conducive environment, there is no life in the UK. You stay indoor and get so bored, you start feeling claustrophobic.

I feel sorry for those who go there to work. In Nigeria, after a long hard day at work, you get to visit mama Nkem bar, chat with friends, shack some Odeku and point & kill Pepper soup and feel refreshed again but in the UK, nah!!! You can't even spend that money else "you know what happens when you don't get your bills sorted".

Abeg Govt provide 24 hours power only and see how many Nigerians remain in the UK or anywhere abroad.
I dont think you understand why i quoted that section of his post and made my comment, please read and understand before replying. May be you know.....how many people have committed suicide because of TV license?

The second part of your post is just full of non-substantial assumptions and you don't seems to know jack about life in the UK

Obatide: Greeting to Everybody
Thanks for the intelligent we have all displayed to analyze one of my posts, I duly appreciate both reactions, at least, it makes people to contribute and share their honest feeling, God bless us all.
In summary
1. It shows we are all one big family and need more information to succeed on this journey whilst keeping in touch as mates even in America.
2. Those who argued against creation of the new thread, said so not to abandon this current one while those in support share that too, but in addition, they considered rules guiding posting on Nl as well.
What prompts me to suggest a thread for ‘that’ purpose are:
I Observed that
1. Most of members who have had their visas approved are not that active on the thread unlike their activities before interview except very few of them. Do u notice that too?
2. This thread, ‘2014 Dv winners meet here’ deals with necessary process needed to have a successful interview
3. The thread; ‘Diversity visa immigrant? Welcome to America’ contains information we need after arriving America (I have been a regular poster there too, pls read). Hence, the stage between Successful approval of visa and Arrival in USA has not been comprehensively discussed like the two mentioned threads.
4. Most of 2013 people do try their best to assist on information there but work don’t give them that total freedom as in my personal chat with some of them to ensure they contribute regularly on 2014 thread, you will hear something like ‘You wouldn’t understand until you get here, because time is money here in America, but I do reply those who mailed me’ my concern is what happen to people who don’t have their mail or social medial handle but need such info too?
5. There is need to graduate the processes, which I believe will keep us together. Say
a. 2014 Dv winners meet here; process towards interview
b. Yet to be created thread; planning Migration after successful Interview
c. Diversity visa immigrant? Welcome to America; settling down in USA
My submission
1. I appeal and promise that this thread will not suffer as a result of graduated process
2. Having a graduated process will bond us together the more and give each segment a full sense of belonging
3. There will not be deviation from Subject matters of each thread; hence NL rule will be kept.
Conclusion
I have no inferior motive behind creation of the thread and don’t think NL pays those who have created topics before, so my motive is to enable us rub mind together on every stage of the process to avoid extortions and exploitations by Agents.
Therefore, I suggest that if anybody could edit this topic; ‘Preparation for Migration after Diversity visa Approval’ before it’s finally created, I will appreciate it.

Thanks and Wishing you all a Happy and Properous Year 2014!
We don't need another thread dealing with the issues you raised, we have this one already https://www.nairaland.com/1058937/diversity-visa-immigrant-welcome-america which covers all sorts of topics.

There are far too many threads dealing with different aspect of DV lottery but few comments, lets keep the ones we have alive and grow it rather than starting more threads with little or no comment on them.

Both of them, how much do you budget for the trip? How much will the trip cost you? You need to make a min-budget of your trip to be able to answer that question realistically.

I'm not sure priority service is available for visiting visa, i think its for business visa.

You will be walking towards 10yrs ban if you want to be present bank statement printed weeks before the money was removed.

Look for another school, don't be in a hurry to waste your millions. This will become very clearer the moment you stepped into the UK.
