JideVince: can I book a one-way ticket?
Buy a year return, it will save you a fortune later in the year, the difference between single and return is nothing.

adamsjosef: @fiscalcliff, very true what you've noted. About the warm clothes, I strongly advise, get something from Nigeria to hold body b4 visiting primark or wherever it is. Also for the food, Mehn....that one Na war, 'twas more of a testimony and jubilation when I prepared Egusi soup on Sunday. Even my neighbours came to savour the delicacy. I don chop Tesco and Waitrose food tire b4 the Egusi inspiration came in. Dunno why some Naija peeps want to me more English than the English here, with their confused accents and fake fronting.

I would like to take an exception to a comment by someone on this thread that compared some previous active posters on this thread to the proverbial 10 Lepers, when you're overwhelmed with work and knowing the vast difference btw the Uk and Naija educational system, you'll have no option but to devote everything to ur studies. It's only when you've been able to adapt reasonably well ( that's after a few weeks)that you can attend to other issues. I believe most peeps still follow this thread even if they don't drop a line. That said, I still got madt love for this thread and everyone here.

Adapting quite well here, massive difference! Just 8 of us in my class, got at least 2 presentations every week coupled with assignments. Truancy no possible at all...your lecturer get ur fone number, unlike in Naija, I didn't even know my course mates finish, Na lecturer I wan know?

I concur with fiscalclif on tightening ur purse with super glue, no pady for jungle o!

Jidevince and Jen...waiting to see you guys in Uk by Weekend...welcome smiley
Very very few people care to come back here after getting their visas, in fact less than 1% come back here to help, many still visit nairaland but not this section.

funkybaby: emphasis on the bolded.

including a business bank statement with just 3.5m closing balance does not make his application look good.....that's the plain truth.... that balance is rather low....if we are to deduct his travel expenses, etc for the conference, wetin go remain for the account? grin grin

besides, he seems to be more concerned about the company's docs rather than his own personal docs.
Exactly! the ECO will not issue him a visa without knowing jack about the company's financial status else every corner shop will present a conference letter from the UK with a letter attached to it for visa application.
Travel › Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 2 by justwise(mod): 2:49pm On Oct 09, 2013
funkybaby: in my own opinion, there really is no need to include the company's business bank statement and all that.

all you need from them is a letter confirming that you are a staff and they are sponsoring you as a representative at the conference. the letter should also state what benefit the pharmaceutical company will get (if any) from sending you to the UK for the conference (considering the fact that they are financially responsible for your trip).

now, the onus is on you to proof that you have strong ties to nigeria and you will not ABSCOND and not return once you get into the UK or break any immigration law. you have to show that you have strong (family) ties to nigeria and also proof that you are financially stable in nigeria and you have a job that you love and would be returning to once the conference is over.

the UK peeps dont give a damn about the company sponsoring you. your employer can decide to give you a 1st class ticket and lodge you at the best hotel but the main question is will you return back home once the conference is over? so make sure you have enough docs in your application relating to yourself proving your ties to the courntry.

do you have previous travel history?
funkybaby think those documents are necessary if the company is not one of those big pharmaceutical companies that turns out hundreds of millions yearly, their financial strength need to be determine so as to know if they can afford such foreign conference and still be in business, pay staff etc.

Well known companies will not need to present those documents but for unknown companies those documents are necessary.

My opinion though.

Neldre: Pls, a friend of mine needs help. He applied 4 a lottery with an agent and filled d form with 1990 as date of birth but wen the agent was to submit, he changed it to 1987 without telling him. Nw he has won d lottery. D agent helped him forge a birth certificate of 1987 without changing all d year of graduation on his school certificates. He has nw been granted d visa bt has nt got the money to pay d agent d 500k he demanded or even fly out and the agent has seized his sealed envelope and also threatening him that he would spoil his visa even though the visa is still with my friend. Can the visa be spoiled for real because of d error in date of birth?

solomon111: Let's stop deceiving ourselves.
That name is alias and not his real name.
The dude is a Nigerian living in the UK
Its typical of some Nigerians, he is not a Nigerian now because crime is involved, if he is a talented footballer they will dig-out the origin of that name and claim him as a Nigerian.

Daily mail will not name him as a Nigerian if he is not officially regarded as one.

funkybaby: grin grin grin

I am having my teeth extracted this afternoon sad , so I thought I freestyle on different threads and ease my nervousness only to stumble on some questions left unanswered because they were asked by 'a friend' for 'a friend'. to make it worse, a particular person here made it the norm to admonish, scold and ignore posters asking these 'friend's friends' questions. i wonder why you let him get away with it and not speak to him about it.

we must be able to help one another. . . . whether or not the question/issue is about a friend, brother, aunty, shagpartner cool or whoever.

that said, how borri? did you miss me wink nice to see you too smiley
hmmm shey you don come with your wahala? grin grin actually...i don't like it when people do this...i'm asking for my friend and further down the line the 'friend' turns out to be the poster and the poster seems to know far too much about that 'friend'.

Why people do that is something i can't get my head around.

I don't even want to imagine the idea of teeth extraction, wishing you a painless one.

Hanan30: Thank you @justwise for replying. My visa was issued within 7 working days. I'm just worried because I'm already late to the start date. My school gave me extra time (the end of Oct.) to arrive there. Do they question the source of money in the bank? is it important to provide an evidence of money (the money is in my husband's account). And in the online application I remember they asked my husband about his job and his income and how much he spends on living expenses and on his dependents. Why do they ask such questions? Thanks again.
For student visa the source of income does not matter, it matters when you are applying for visiting visa and other types of visas. Since it took that short period to issue you then expect similar period in this one too.

If you want to have a complete rest of mind then your husband can add his source of income...payslip etc, though its not necessary

Hanan30: Hi all. First I'd like to thank you all and especially @justwise for your great effort and support. I've been reading this forum several weeks and it was a great help for me to get the visa. Actually my situation was a little bit complicated. I'm a postgraduate student got acceptance at University of Surrey and I'm funded from a university here in Jordan. I'm also married and have 3 kids. When I wanted to apply to get the visa I was shocked to know that my husband and children should provide a bank statement for 28 days. So I applied alone, and deposited enough funds for them in the bank. I got my visa and next day the money clocked 28 days. so we printed out a bank statement and applied in the same day. I just wanna make sure of the documents required: I submitted the online application (one for each), their passport, a copy of my passport and visa, birth and marriage certificates and the bank statement. Is that enough? I remember paying online one day before submitting the application to the visa center so what's the date of application in this case? does this type of visa take less time to be processed? Thanks all.
Congratulations for securing your visa.

The list of documents you submitted are good, the date of application is the date you submitted your application to visa center.
I'm not sure about the duration, how long did it take before your visa came out?
