OK your god is beyond human reasoning he created brains for humans to think objectively but robortically not to question him. Iffahia

I have a theory though, the bible was written by a creative person who got facinated in a being that is all powerful and almighty and yet with human emotions and short comings then did damage control by the talk of "Gods ways are beyond human reasoning" (just to shut you up)so as control gullible people in his time not knowing it will make future generations followers of his imaginations.

His really good. grin

What rubbish! Was it not the same Africans who walked around with loincloths long before the "massas" ever set foot here? Don't know about other parts of Africa, but in most Southern regions of Africa, nudity is considered the most natural & uncorrupted state of every human. Dare I say, "traditional". We are all born nekkid after all. And so was that guy & chic in Eden.

It's sometimes even used to rebel against western culture. Sorry but I don't see the correlation here. Those people were probably skimpily clad because this IS Africa 1)it's damn hot & 2) it just was what it was way back then.

Various African tribes in "traditional" wear
Thanks for this enlightening comment.

Yeah. Most theists but not all theists. I'm sorry for the wrongs done to you and I can't say it will bve better but you should stay strong. If atheists on Nairaland changed your mind by taking advantage of your doubts perhaps I may show you another way. First you'll have to come clean about your doubts and ask whatever questions are most important to you.
Thanks but I don't have questions. Its just plain clear to me. There's no god simple.

why do you make a decision (if God exist or not) via a faceless forum? Do you know the people you are reading there post? If you want to be convinced, God does not exist, you have to do the research yourself.

I tell you the truth my sister, God is there, God exist, believe me, do not allowed the devil to manipulate you. Trust me when I say God exist. Come back home, come back to Christianity. Bible say remember your creator when you are young, or is it when you grow old and life is not pleasurable anymore that you will remember God? Thank you
Mr man, my decision is my own, nairaland never forced me but helped in enlightening me. one cna get his or her knowledge from unlikely places. av always had my doubts. when i said its complicated, do not assume for me, you don't know my story and can not decipher my life.

keep your preaching to yourself and the gullible people around, that nairaland helped does not mean i didn't do my research.

good day

Ok. Thanks so much for responding.
I, too, go to church sometimes (with friends for the social factor) but I only listen to messages I agree with, otherwise I just browse my phone or think about other things the whole time.

But when I don't go to church, I am totally unapologetic about it. However I have to avoid the issue with parents or family (thankfully I live far away) because it could cause a mini-civil war! I wonder how long this can stay concealed.

Also, I am curious to hear your story of how you arrived at disbelief. Here's mine. There's a much shorter personal analysis here.

Btw, I like your locks.
hmn well

I was always asking myself questions (because if I do out loud I get the "never question god" or "pray for the holy spirit answer"wink
like why would god be happy with the idea of his children burning in hell for ever if they don't love him

and why must humans go through hardship to find him?

then my situation, I usually get the " pray hard! and god will answer" and "the people at my village" and grin "my landlord (whos late now, miss him so much) is using our progress to prolong his life"

"come to this church, come to that church"

I prayed and prayed and prayed, then I asked why am I suffering for what I don't know, is it my forefathers/mothers? did I push them to sin for me to bear the brunt of their mistakes?

its quite long and I remember replying a similar question but to cut it all short

I suddenly realized av been fooling myself by being lead by a book and bred idea of a god, because everything I prayed for, wished for, worked and prayed for never came to be, then when I was given a bible as a gift (instead of a phone angry) I decided to read and then just got more annoyed and convinced that its all flawed and then I broke out.

Now though things haven't really changed with me but I can and will strongly admit,

I feel lighter,
better in person
happier
and my moralistic views has increased instead of diminished
and most of all, I know apart from natures forces, me and only me, myself and I is responsible for my actions and whatever I do or don't do is my responsibility not a fairy tale that couldn't control its supposed first creation.

and thanks for the compliments * feeling fly* grin

There is something I have noticed and I don't know if others noticed it in their dogs too. Dogs love eyes service , they will do anything just to please you.
I noticed of recent that my dog doesn't finish or sometimes doesn't eat her food except I stand there to watch her.
Yesterday I woke up pretty late, quickly prepared it food and didn't even have the time for our early morning play. So I just gave her the food and off I went, guess what? by the time I came back hours later , I met the food the way I gave her, at first I thought something was wrong with her , I took the food , looked at it , gave it back to her and in my presence , this dog ate it all, I was like han han but this thing was in your front all day now,
Again if I let t it play around in the compound while I stay outside she doesn't get destructive infact she acts innocent but immediately I leave her alone , she scatters anything scatterable once I come out she runs to me and act all innocent again. And she has this funny look whenever I call her eye service angry
Also she acts like she plays with other kids when I'm around but if I leave her alone she runs after then knowing they will be scared but for her she is catching her fun , once I come out again she is back to miss innocent ,

Dogs and eye service sha , you can't question their loyalty cos they just wanna please you
no doubt dogs are the most loyal animals...scratch that, pets you'll ever come across, but your dog will never hurt children, and maybe you should check your activities lately, probably you hardly have time for you dog and she's/he's reacting to it.

Wow. That's crazy. He is indeed similar to Boko Haram.

So, since you now avoid discussing your disbelief, how do you respond if/when people ask you why you don't/didn't go to church? (Assuming you stopped going to church.)

Assuming you still go to church (for understandable reasons), how do you respond when people ask you questions like: "what did you like about the pastor's preaching today?" Do you ever catch yourself almost instinctively answer such questions truthfully but then reroute your answer?

How do you hold yourself back (from rebutting) when people talk about church and God all the time?
hello!
yes I do avoid it but I discuss it with my bff whom knows about my beliefs and personality. well, what I tell those people in the dark about me, I just tell them am too busy, or I fell ill or I just didn't feel like it. then if I feel like I can stay to listen to their sermons on the importance of going to church (mostly that happens with my uncles and aunties) then i tune off, but others i simply give them my body odor grin of no interest, then they rest their case.

hmn, whenever i go, of course i can, tell what i managed to get into my head, ( i usually listen to messages i agree with) then tell them in my words, am sometimes good with words.

i keep mum smiley mostly or conveniently answer "amen" or i get mischievous grin

mehn life is too short to bother about such people

Ma'am, with all due respect, please quit being a sentimental jerk. Be urself and stop trying to hide behind someone else's personalty.

If u say he was trying to pull a joke, I totally understand that, but trying to justify his motive is totally out of sense.

Please don't try to utter more, the more u try to defend urself, the more blasphemy u speak...

I'm not the religious type, my hands are so filled with sins to be one. As a matter of factly, I can't remember the last time I attended church, but I'm too wise to utter such blasphemy against the Holy one.

If the two holy books acknowledge HIS power and glory, who then are we to speak sh1t?
did I tell you that I care about a fictitious bull spirit?
please if you read my comments properly you will notice I don't share your fairy faith.

and am not defending per say, am stating a fact, you take offence aint ma problem.

I Don't think it's our place to be objective with what someone just shared with an honest open mind. This is how we discourage people from sharing things like this.
I think if she was hungry she would have said it in her post. Just because you haven't had that kinda experience doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

And even if one don't believe in it... Then I think it's best the person just ignores the post than to post something so derogatory as that.. If that was suppose to be humorous then am sorry it's a failed attempt at humour. Let's be reasonable for once. Now with that kinda "objectivity" do you guys think she would share stuff like dis again.
Plus this is the religion part of this forum right?? Then she has every right to post her "spiritual" experience here without unnecessary subjection to objective thinking. Thank you.
true she has every right am not disputing that,

but you don't know why seun asked such question, the lady came back from work, did not relax or take water to ease of some of the stress she had at work but in her work clothes went to her friend's place to see her for no reason,

how are you sure she did not have a reaction from exhaustion, or she was going through shock?

I am tired I would've engaged you in this topic, but FYI. even though you are a believer of spiritual things you have to be objective before accepting a story hook line and sinker........if not I wonder how it would be if you're to solve a case of sudden death, you'll be quick to say "god giveth, god taketh" when it would've been a simple but serious case of ulcer, or heart attack.
