Hotel bookings, hate going to countries where I have no family, and have to pay hotel fees, ARRRGHH, and these days they are always unrefundable.

I also find it absurd and insulting that you compare homosexuality, which isn't a choice, to horrible lifestyle addictions like Whitney's.
When does homosexuality make a person lose your life savings, lose their career then barely scrape it back, lose their voice irrecoverably, make them live in a dirty den like a pig which the whole world witness. Oh it's drug which does all those.

i am comparing lifestyle that people out there may see as "wrong"(just like you do now with drugs).  i have no problem with gay/lesbian people(just like i dont with drugs) but i am sure a few people in Nigeria would be quick to talk down on artist because of their sexual/religious preferences. the important word here is PREFERENCES!

A. She could be a much much better singer than she is now, and could have had legendary status. . Her "personal" choice of hard drugs had bleeped that up for her. These days people walk out of her shows because she has lost her voice. Madonna was incucted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame History of fame 2 years ago, where's Withney's inductuction huh ? huh ? FAIL.

B. She would have aged much much better than she has now, I think we've already covered examples of her mates who aged better than her. And before you said we complained when she was ghastly thin, and we complained now she's fat. Hmm maybe she should be "normal". . Some of we mortals actually look like that. And it's not just the body shape. . That's a meth face if I've ever seen one. FAIL

C. You're comparing gay people who do positive things with their life with hard drug addicts, that's a screwed up comparison. I have nothing against gay people and nothing against anyone sleeping with people even 50 younger, as long as said person is of consenting age (and if you're a homophobe, please keep that to another thread).

I would rather be a hypocrite who does not encourage drug addicts, than be a spineless enabler which is what you are.

Exactly,examples are Grace, Bowie, Duran Duran, and Khan (Whitney started her career singing back-up for her). All these look better than Whitney and as I said before some will slay her by tour sales.

was in the uk as a student and within my one year i visited canada (categorized as a tough visa to get) and France on a schengen visa. I also visited Nigeria once during that time to see my hubby and daughter who i left in naija (very strong ties to home)

I applied for the 1st time for a us visa with supporting documents from my hubbys international work place to go and spend sometime with my hubby who was on a months training at that time in the us. he couldnt come over because he did not have a british visa. i was refused with the sole reson that i did not have sufficient ties in the uk. and that ties to Nigeria had to be proved in Nigeria.

6 months later i tried again as i wanted to attend an international conference (similar to the one i had attended in canada that got me the visa) I was refused again on the same reason that i should go back to my home country and apply from there.

i was really sad but once i got back to naija after my programme, without a job and hardly any money in my Bank account, i applied again here and got it immediately with no issues.

my advice is that you have about a 10% chance. come home to naija and apply for it. it will hurt pay visa fees and not get the visa oh!

I don't plan on going back to Nigeria for a while, so maybe I'll apply when I have my PSW and start working as Justwise suggested.

While I agree with you, that most has-beens would be happy for that amount, your list is very very flawed.
Grace Jones was paid $5 Million for some European concerts, which is money she was paid upfront.
Chaka Khan went on a "Here Come The Girls" Tour last year with Anastasia and made millions. . I do not know the exact figure.
And for Duran Duran and David Bowie, dude are you kidding me, if those 2 announced a tour, the internet would be shut down with fanatics, including me. Those men have cult followings especially as they can still back it up.

As I said $32 Million is really nothing for a world tour. These days albums don't sell, money is only generated from tours, lets say she is paid 10% which is 3.2 (she won't even be paid that much, as she owes her record label millions, which is a story for another day).
$3.2 Million is money she can run through on a three month drug binge course. I know that for a fact as she ran through her record breaking payment of $100 Million in a few years. As you can see, I do know Whitney I just do not have any respect for her, as I do not respect drug users past or present and most likely future.

Its nothing about surgery. Witney was a former model and could have aged well if not for hard drugs which she is arguably still on. Have you seen Grace Jones ? The woman is 62 not a surgery in her damn life and and looks great.

Why not apply for Post-Study-Work permit first b4 going for USA visa, that will show stronger tie to the UK than student visa that will expire in 6months time.

Yeah I thought about that, but not sure how soon I'll get a job after  I get the PSW visa, and it might harm my application as they would look at it like I came for studies in the UK and didn't go back to Nigeria after. I think I'll give it a shot now, I have a decent statement of account e.t.c, Thanks !

Cuz in the US, having a valid visa doesn't mean anything. What matters is the I-94 arrival card.

I disagree with you about this claim; though, valid or expired European visas in one's passport doesn't automatically guarantee a US visa success, but every advanced country do take travel history into consideration. A citizen of a third world country who has had legitimate travel experience and has not breached the conditions of the visas will definitely earn more credibility compared to a person who is applying to travel abroad for the first time. So, your claim that the USA "does not give a damn" about a person's travel history does not hold water otherwise, there wouldn't have been a TRAVEL HISTORY SECTION in the visa application form.

What I meant by having travelled to Europe during the masters, was to highlight it could show me as a keen traveller e.t.c and also show that I did come back from those trips, but ultimately I didn't ever travel to Nigeria throughout that year and the ties i could show with UK where my masters which I already completed. I also have only been here one year and planned to return to UK after the trip. What do you think ?

I ended up going to a University in England for my Masters, no I just handed in my dissertation, although my student visa runs till Jan 2011. I want to apply to US for holidays but I am worried I waited to long, and might be denied since I have handed in my dissertation already and also would be using hotel reservations e.t.c, I do have a solid statement of ACC. I have also gotten 2 Schengen visas during my one year which might help. Do you think I should go ahead or not bother with it. Thanks

Ohsisi is just being vicious jare.
On the 5 year ban issue that makes sense, which would mean he would be able to travel now. Wait for other posters who would have advice tomorrow (Nigerian time) or at worst wait till next year when it's 10 years over so either way he would be cleared.

At poster, just noticed you're a Brit citizen,and not Canadian,was worried that you being Canadian you might have some trouble because of your hubby.

Actually being abroad I haven't had a particular situation where I was embarrassed being Nigerian. I am however embrassed when I read things on the news or watch something on BBC. Or when I log on nairaland and see comments some Nigerians make. . .and I think to myself 'why the hell are these people even alive
