Your triple bump is not enough to make a diagnosis. Drive it some more and note any malfunction. If your transmission was really dirty before the atf change, I am afraid it may eventually come out of that vehicle. Dirty/neglected transmission and top notch atf don't mix well.

But, you just have to drive it some more.

Its been taken to the toyota guys and they said its a software update on the ecu. Its back from the shop and still makes the same shudder signs. I don tire

A case of torque converter clutch shudder. The torque converter clutch lock up when commanded, grabs and releases rapidly. Possible causes - bad/wrong ATF, bad clutch (remote), bad solenoid, bad valve. If you have correct ATF, try a friction modifier.

Modified: A way to have a confirmation is to see if this happens at TCC lockup, using a capable scanner.

The race is on for horse power and fuel economy the 10speed as used in tractor trailers might get an extra 2mpg highway, hopefully it will have less wear in the clutches and last a lot longer than the old 6 speeds trans.

The 10-speed is packaged in the same space as the old transmissions, and some actually started using the 8-speed 6 model years ago(300S)

Because our people are still afraid of the 5-speed cars does not mean the world wil wait for us.

Toyota came out with the world's first 8speed AT. It has three planetary, and remains the only 8speed that compact. Others have four so, you cannot say they are as compact as their predecessors. Compare this to a 6speed with one planetary (though not simple planetary). They keep adding members until a revolutionary design becomes available, and they start all over again. The advent of Ravignueax planetary made it possible for a 10speed to fit into the same engine bay as 5speed but does it make it smaller or lighter? No.

Wide gear range has nothing to do with a transmission's torque handling capacity. A 2speed can be designed to handle a torgue that will smoke a 10speed. It is in the holding members!

Looking at numbers now, the 6speed's last gear (sixth) has a ratio of 0.586, while that of 8speed has 0.685! What this means is given the same final drive, the 6speed will deliver better highway mileage than the 8speed! Now, something that I look out for in all those 'improved' transmissions is the number of overdrive gears. The 5speed has one, even though live feed shows two. 6speed has two, and 8speed has two. 5speed has its direct ratio (1:1) at 3rd. 6speed does this at 4th, and 8 speed, at 6th. So why have five under drive ratios in a transmission? A valve that should move about three times in a 5speed from 1 to 5, will probably double its movement in 8speed. The result is accelerated VB wear. There is measurable improvement in 6speed from 5, but nothing to show in 8.

Tell me the 8th gear has a ratio of 0.480 then I will clap for them! Those are more for marketing and competition.

The unending increase in transmission speed by manufacturers is a rat race IMO. Why would a car have more than six forward gears? Look for the first and last gear ratios of this 10 speed and compare them to a six speed. Negligible difference!

It will just increase size, because more parts will be needed. The cost of purchase will be higher, and repair cost of course! Next thing now, 15 speed! The higher the speed, the lower the reliability.

Useless as far as this issue is concerned. You think all performance issues throw code? This is just a code reader that might just be limited to emission.

The major difference is viscosity at low temperature.

@OP, be careful if your transmission has never been serviced, and is dirty. The better the replacement oil, the higher the risk.

It is very simple. The ECU inhibits reverse once a forward movement is sensed.

I drive a 2010 Toyota Camry and it's transmission is not selecting properly; it enters gear 1 but not 2 and 3.... even when it enters gear 2 it quickly disengage and the engine rolls.

A gear mechanic that checked said the gear pump is rusty and he changed it. Still the same problem. In fact I noticed that it was after he changed the gear pump that it refuse to enter reverse gear.

Pls, how can I solve this problem. Do you think changing the gear entirely is the best option? Or it can still be repaired? Changing the gear at this time is very difficult because the mechanic said it cost up to 500k.

The gear expert that told you your transmission pump was rusty is a moronic thief! . That is not possible! He did not change anything!! Why are some people wicked?? No wonder nobody has any confidence in the industry.

Check and confirm other ranges you dont have. Your transmission has a long failsafe strategy, which disables some ranges, depending on the failure detected. Reverse is however not affected. You need to scan for codes, but i am sure ratio codes will be there. In the absense a scanner, disconnect the battery momentarily and reconnect. Use the manual shift to see what you have before it goes to failesafe again.

That transmission is difficult to diagnose in that car, because the clutch pressure ports are too close to the subframe! Not fun!

Try the above and get back.

Please my Transmission and Gear Experts kindly assist,

I have a 2000 Toyota Camry which i bought Tokunbo in 2011, mid last year , i experienced flooding which entered my vehicle during one of the rains.

After like two weeks of using the car , i noticed that my gear was not selecting well, when i took it to my Mechanic, he examined it and said that water entered the gear oil, then we bought ATF fluid and he replaced it and also changed the gear filter too. I have changed the ATF once after this service.

Fast forward to last week, I noticed that the Drive is not moving as throttled, I have to push the pedal so hard before it moves, the reserve is moving very sharp and is not affected.

I called my mechanic and he said that it is not what he can do, but will need to consult a gear expert who will change some parts necessary for the drive gears to engage.

I have parked it as I dont want further damage on the system and I dont have money now to embark on any expensive repair service.

Please what do you think is wrong and how best can i handle this to avoid creating more problems for my self.

Unfortunately, the transmission will go out. It was just a matter of time before the water took its toll. It is a kiss of death. The friction materials will flake off the disks. The harm is done already so, not driving it won't change that.

Your transmission is relatively cheap so, just brace up for a replacement.

Ask your mechanic to remove the belt and run the engine. That way, you will confirm if the rattle is inside or outside the engine. If it goes away with the belt removed, concentrate on the externals driven by the belt else,

I drive a 2010 Toyota avensis, after I got my seal on the tranny replace, when I engage the gear into drive in the morning, it takes a while before it engages or I step on the accelerator to get the car to move, Abeg, its a big worry to me.

I wouldnt say its misfire but flashing means an error code meaning the car needs to be hooked to a diagnostic machine and pull out the code and you start working with pulled out code

I have never seen check engine light flashing that is not misfire related.

Toyota will go for reliability, rather than aesthetics any time. While Honda likes newest gadgets/technology, Toyota likes 'tested and trusted'. They will wait for a year or more for the teething period to pass. Meanwhile do you you consider cost of ownership? If that camera side mirror is broken, it will come with considerable financial setback. For me, the handleless door is a minus.

Speedometer was faulty, trees still clear, tachometer wasn't in the red zone. Even Benz with a v8 engine touches the red zone@ 220. Not to talk of baby corrola when my jalopy dey dust for road.
