GAZZUZZ: what do you think the culprit is? Me I suspect 13pin winch Dirt picked by the replacement shaft(s), or dirt around seal finding its way into transmission. If you are very careful to ensure a clean procedure, there shouldn't be a problem. Whenever I work on these, I always have a pack of disposable napkins around. |

King Gazzuzz, Emir Kashif et al abeg come help oooo Shaft replacements have been carried out after the vehicle was left over night, and still had problems. I really dont think the temperature is the culprit. ZF for instance, even asks you to ensure the vehicle is at operating temperature before changing atf. |

Car Talk › Re: My Mercedes Benz CLS 500 Wont Change Gear From Gear 1 by Kashif(m): 6:26pm On Mar 10, 2017 |
alabiyemmy: It's a 2006 cls 500 which I acquired in 2009, so I am not new to it and it has been serviced by mechanics who know their worth.
Prior to the problem, the fluid drained out due to a leaking pipe and this was fixed and everything was ok and I drove it for a while. I used star gear oil from M Benz.
I don't have the obd scanner but a couple of times before parking it with the mechanic, it has been scanned and it was saying valve body, but after buying and changing the valve body, the trouble continues. NAG2! You may have a major repair on your hands. One thing with this transmission is that most times, you will need to reflash the TCM after repair/rebuild. It is possible that the oil shortage starved your clutches/brakes of cooling and application pressure, and toasted them. Is it that upper gears are not being commanded, or you have flare when commanded? Do you remember the code(s) you had? Since a valvebody replacement did not solve the problem, you need to put your original valvebody back. The sump was updated in 2010, though I am not really sure why. ATF was also updated. You need to know what the computer is telling the box. |

Car Talk › Re: How Can I Remove Maintenance Required "MAINT REQUIRED" by Kashif(m): 2:09pm On Mar 07, 2017 |
autotrader2: You cannot make an argument without insults. I think that's what you thrive on. If only you had the clarity of thought to think through the first word I wrote to the OP! I said he probably used the wrong Oil. Why not wait for him to confirm that or not.
You seem to be having a bad day and looking for who to take it on. And for your info, Toyota Oil is recommended by the makers of Venza for use in the Venza engine. If you don't like it , then you can take that your incorrigible attitude and stick it up your flea infested rear I was indeed having a bad day, and thanks for making me laugh, seriously. You really have a knack for detecting imaginary insults. The man even mentioned that he is tired of paying his mechanic 2k each time his vehicle was serviced, to help him clear the reminder. That was routine, and you missed all those! What are we arguing? Slimchase: Pls Auto gurus in the house...... How can i remove the "Maintenance Required Warning Logo" on my Venza Dashboard after servicing it (ie after changing the engine oil) I have tried removing the battery head terminal but that didn't work out. Plz help me cos seeing it on my dashboard drives me nuts and am tired of paying my mechanic N2k for removing it for me. We are talking Toyota Venza here, not Toureg bro! Face the issue on ground without digressions. Just accept you made a mistake, and move on. My last take in this! |
Car Talk › Re: How Can I Remove Maintenance Required "MAINT REQUIRED" by Kashif(m): 11:26am On Mar 07, 2017 |
autotrader2: Mr Kashif, you need to check yourself before throwing out words like ignorant. Even if you reset the oil life and you use the wrong Oil in a sensitive engine, the oil light will still come on. I'll appreciate it if you exhibit some decorum, and stop using uncouth words just because you have attempted to rebuild a transmission in the past. I'm done here It is better for you. OP mentioned his vehicle. Does it have one of your 'sensitive engines'? He asked a simple question - how do I clear my service reminder? Did he say he cleared it and it came back? No! You want to sell oil, so you direct him to your shop. Greenhulk tried to correct you with all the decorum he could muster but, you were the one who designed this engine so, we must swallow your solution. You are simply either ignorant on this matter, or mischievous. People like you fling my decorum outta the window! |

Car Talk › Re: How Can I Remove Maintenance Required "MAINT REQUIRED" by Kashif(m): 10:08am On Mar 07, 2017 |
autotrader2: Not in all cars. When you use the wrong Oil in some sensitive engines you get that light on the dashboard. Why not allow the OP to confirm the type of oil he used. Your own car might have tolerance to "vegetable oil" and it works great....I doubt that Your ignorance level no get rival. It is repugnant to say the very least! You can clear that light at will, even if you dont change the oil. It is better to be quiet than pass misleading info. Is that how you market? OP, press the odometer button to get to trip A. Switch the ignition off. Then, while holding the button down, switch ignition on (without starting the engine) the trip reading will show ------ and the "maintenance reqd" blinking. Hold it down until the dashes disappear. The light will reset, waiting for the next 5,000 miles. |

Personally, I think this all started with the enforcement of BVN. Nothing else seems to be logical. I am certain it is not the importers that are causing the scarcity. What are we importing today that we were not importing five years back?
With BVN, (and the fear of prosecution) thieves (politicians, contractors, civil servants, service chiefs) who stole large funds are just converting to $$$. They dont care at what rate it comes. Once there is a drop, they mop up everything.
Yesterday, I was reliably informed that a sitting governor in the SW bought USD300k from one black market source alone! |

It is disappointing that complaints threads are hidden in Cartalk. Why is that?? Why allow people waste their time?
This is killing Cartalk! I know many minds that have dropped out of the radar because of things like this.

Pablo212: I paid 270k for a U151E, they ripped it from one 2GF engine (07 Avalon) took it from Ladipo to Bode thomas, the mechanic guy that was recommended by the seller mounted it in 2 days, 3rd day he started it, after doing some wiring stuffs and changing the brainbox he ran the car for abt 15 mins till it gets hot and stopped engaging. cut long story short we returned it... now we got another one after adding 70k to the outstanding 270k because the seller couldn't bear the loss alone, we agreed on taking another gear, now its in the mech's workshop. I hope this one works because the seller assured the only problem with this one we are taking now is the pump, all we need to do is replace the bad pump, take it out of the first one and put it in this one that needs pump replacement.
I just hope it works out tomorrow, otherwise, am still in the market for a U151E tranny. It is possible the seller is supplying you with recycled transmissions. The price of straight tokunbo and "tried-and-failed" transmission are not the same. how did he know the current one he gave you has pump seal problem? I have seen a seller in Ladipo open a transmission, replace clutches, wash some internals, and then sprinkle everything with clean ATF. It was coupled back, and waiting for a buyer. Who knows if he would even mate it to an engine! If you ask them for prices, the ones you know will give you two prices - fixed, and direct. Why did the installer need to replace ECU and do 'some wiring stuffs'? |
