My worries now is what exactly is the problem of the car as it can't move again?
Please give guidance or what to work on and direct me to your shop or any good transmission repairer.
Thanks as I await your favourable response. Your transmission has a lot of issues. Serviced/worked on it recently? What distance has it covered? |

mike070: Hello all. Sorry for the long delay. Was out of town. So I changed the gear oil with type t iv and also installed a new filter. The problem still persists. Gear does not move when engine is cold but reverse moves whether hot or cold. Scanned car again and no DTC codes pointing to transmission. Only have p1135 and p1346 and I've been trying to fix these codes all to no avail. Pls Gazzuzz nd all kindly assist me cos I'm confused. Nb wen gear moves it moves very fine. Even did 140 with it on Friday on my way to warri. I need answers. Thanks all Oga, if to say you give me that oyel money make I take buy baby food, you no see say I for dey jolly now? mike070: Same stuff in 2 and L. wen hot every fin is perfect. Both D 2 AND L moves perfect and all illuminates in on dashboard. But wen cold does nor drive or very slow but still illuminates on tge dash board. Now there is a new twist to it. You have now mentioned sluggish movement cold. Is the problem delayed engagement cold, or sluggish movement cold or both? But no matter what, my take would be the valvebody. |
Car Talk › Re: Toyota Camry Transmission Issue by Kashif(m): 11:18am On Nov 12, 2016 |
GAZZUZZ: what are you servicing in the transmission? Replace oil with TIV and filter. Since the ATF is still good according to him, there wont be any need to replace it. I have never seen clogged filter delay engagement cold, but stuff happen. My take is sticking valve(s). @mike070, you may check the filter, but leave the ATF. Times are hard! How does it engage in L1? |

HotPotato: My Oga no vex o, VIN report :177k Actual on dashboard: 28k 08' Camry 28K on a 2008 car is unrealistic anyways. One pointer to actual mileage is to examine the brake pedal. You will do well to stay away from that car. It is better he left it the way it came; that way, you know what you are purchasing. If it was owned by careless souls, you will be having tonnes of repair hurdle to cross. Mileage matters in any automobile. I worked on a transmission, and based my estimate on the mileage on the dash. When it did not respond well based on the standard parts used for its assumed mileage, I went searching for its actual mileage, and found it was 130k more! |

GAZZUZZ: I used to be team toyota before, until I studied honda engines and transmissions closely an realized, they were built to be really solid. Yes about Honda engines, but not transmissions. Some established shops wont touch them. They have now started using transmissions made by OEM suppliers, because of reliability issues. |

lilkech: Hi all, I just changed my gearbox 3 weeks ago and topped it off with the recommended atf (z1) for Honda EOD but two days ago I noticed that if I'm accelerating and the Gear wants to enter gear 2 the car sort of makes a thud and the wheels 'screech' but apart from this the Gear shifts perfectly well. The only issues is getting from gear 1 to 2 smoothly.
I took it to one auto gearbox guru who just looked at it and asked me the symptoms of the problem then after telling him he pointed to one stuff on my engine and said I should change it and the problem will go away.
Please can someone tell me what the name of this switch is and how much it could cost me to get another one? I haven't scanned the car yet. Scan the car, and get transmission PIDs first. TPS will most likely cause delayed and bumpy shifts, but may also have a hand in this. What I think is that your car is shifting like this: 2-1-3-4 or 2-1-2-3-4. You need to know what the ECU is commanding, but I think it should be commanding correctly. Make sure your transmission speed sensor connectors are not switched, as it is a common occurrence in those. |

Does your car drive in L? Sure your inhibitor switch is good? (well, driven wheels should not turn at all if the ECU doesn't know when you are in reverse).
Burnt clutch is only a symptom. Replacing it without determining root cause is not the way to go. If your transmission specialist is capable, let him check for the pressure in the first/reverse brake. First, see if you can drive in L.
Goodluck. |

Car Talk › Re: Hello Everyone Pls I Need Help. by Kashif(m): 9:20am On Oct 25, 2016 |
Ezenwachi, can you provide details of how your transmission is shifting? What gears does it or does not have? Stacked shifts, delayed shifts, flares? Does it fall out of gear completely?
Make sure all ABS signal faults are corrected. There is a ground cable towards the rear of the engine. Make sure it is properly fastened.
Scan the car, and post code(s) here, though Toyota's ratio codes are mostly useless. If possible, post ATF temperature after the car has driven for like 15 minutes.
All,
A worn transmission does not care if you replace the ATF ice cold, or furnace hot. In such cases, Abro is 'better' than best of the synthetics. If you are a tech here, do not undertake auto transmission service job without finding out why the owner has chosen to do so. If possible, check for historical transmission codes and drive the vehicle around. 95% of owners never change their ATF unless there is a problem. |
Car Talk › Re: How I Was Disgraced By A Kia by Kashif(m): 3:38pm On Oct 16, 2016 |
If the Kia packs 241hp, and its turbo charged, I wonder how it can outperform a NA 269 hp, if both drivers are evenly reckless. There is turbo lag in turbo charged engines. Again, doing 180km/h towards Iyana Oworo is suicidal. There is this small drop on the bridge, taking that right bend before the final approach, that could send you off at that speed. Apart from engine power, the transmission/final drive plays considerable role. That Kia is not a performance car. oliidell: You are so right. Don't mind the guy. How do you expect a regular camry to move faster than a performance car built for speed Modified: After seeing Kingrein's post, I agree the Optima will give the Camry a run for its money! |

Rahym001: my battery shows the green light, meaning its in good condition, drove it out today to get some house hold items, after shopping decided to drive home and the dash board light did not come on so the car could not start, and the battery still had the green light shinning meaning its still in good condition, had to borrow battery from some one who also cqme for shopping to start my car, and the battery was not as strong as my own, my question is does car battery just die like that.
Honmusa your opinion pls The battery I replaced last year still has green light! It is not a measure of battery life. |

nomaison: Good morning great Honda gurus. I have been having issues with my Honda Hala (1994) Automatic Gearing. It doesnt start until i shift it to D1 then to 2 and till i get to 4. Virtualy am changing the gears manually. I serviced the gear box severally and had to change from one ATF to another. I have even changed automatic gear sensors but still. At first after repairs, she will work well and gradually back to ground zero. I need advice pls. I was given the option of taking the Box for servicing again which am tired of doing, changing the whole engine with the Gear box and lastly buying the gear box and fixing it with the present engine on the car. Thanks If you get a working used transmission, its your best choice. |
