The acura mdx 2011 that i changed the gear was replaced with a honda pilot gearbox. That you can ask. The cars dont use the same fuel ratings ditto the lexus. Lexus uses premium unleaded fuel while the highlander and sienna uses regular unleaded. If your lexus has been performing well, good luck to you but google what you will get when you use a low octane fuel on a lexus, then you wont talk about fuel economy. Prado and Gx 470 uses the same engine and body but they dont use the same fuel. The difference in the price of lx570 and landcruiser is 6m but they are using the same body and powertrain but not the same fuel ratings. Rx 350 has been in the market for over 9 yrs but no one has bought it as brand new, the in thing is now 350 and as the pocket dictates, 330 and 300 rx The fuel is the determining factor in Lexus, Acura, Infinity, Mercedes benz, range rover, Bmw, Vw, Audi, but the one that still overcome the wahala of our fuel regular ratings is the Range Rover, that is why they are more on the road. Nissan jeeps are now having issues with their gearboxes because it is recommended that to get maximum performance, use premium fuel. Dangote refinery is coming to our rescue soon but until then, octane booster is the way to go.

Of all the wrong info in your post, the most outstanding is the bolded. Transmission issues has NOTHING to do with what fuel you use.

It needs diagnosis. Is the computer commanding a shift? Are there codes? Get a competent tech to check live PIDs

There are many cars that will not tolerate regular unleaded fuel, Acura is one of them. The first issue is the gear box and it's the major issue with the mdx. The difference between the Acura and the Honda pilot is the fuel. Same engine but different fuel requirements. The Acura requires premium fuel only. The Lexus350 is a new entrant to our auto market but what we hear from the owners of rx 300 and 330 is not encouraging, black smoke, poor fuel economy and other little issues that the owners can't tell. I once changed the gear box of an Acura mdx 2011 that was bought in cotonou. They added abro atf to top it on their way to Lagos. My advice, be mindful of the oils specified for the car, get good octane booster and enjoy the gadgets and comforts from the mdx.

2011 MDX and Pilot use different engine and transmission. I dont understand why premium and regular fuel will be a requirement on same engine. Never knew Rx300 and 330 owners are complaining. The RX 350 is 9 years already so, i dont see it as a new entrant.

Doubt if I can trust my mechanic to do the filter replacement. He mention loosing the gear sump to replace the filter.
Where can I get the original filter? Can it be done by you and what will the price be?

The original filter (Filtran) is excessively expensive, and is not worth the price. Will you pay 15k or more for a filter? Filters are not hi-tech part so, there are many other good alternatives. I use one of those.

Meanwhile, they are all made in China now, including the OEM, apart from very few. I still have one filter left, and more coming in next week. I can do that for you if necessary. PM me.

@ Kashif Any special precaution to be taken in changing the gear oil in 2GR FE Toyota Sienna engine. I intend Toyota WS (Japan) oil. It is in a gray 4 liters can.
Presently the gear oil is a bit dark and no burnt smell, the gear selects well. Just routine maintenance

Just make sure it is done when the transmission is cold. If this is hard to achieve, heat the replacement ATF before application. Filter replacement is advised.

You see I just got the 13 pin last week for 220k. Now it didn't work but I can confirm it's 13 pin. The seller and I got history so he took me to a technician who says it can be fixed. But what he did was to install the 'brain box' of a 10 pin and that gave a very rough drive. So this morning I went back to the seller and explained I cannot continue to work on the transmission cos that's why I didn't bother to repair the previously burnt one.
He advised that there has always been an issue with the 13 pin and there is no way to guarantee it would turn out well. He offered that he bring a 10 pin so it could be converted. Even the sienna he drives has the same conversion. Left with the option of buying another tyranny for 220k with no guarantee that it would work, I decided to give a chance to see if the conversion would work as they proposed. Would be going back there tomorrow to test drive and make my decisions based on the outcome.

How possible is it to install a 10 pin ECU on a 13 pin vehicle?

Why would he be suggesting 10 pin when you only bought this 13 pin last week? Is there no warranty? Does he not have another 13 pin? Well, its ultimately your call.

I use a RAV4 07 edition. I recently observed that it at times won't chill as I wanted. So, to correct this I took it to a gas guy to help top the gas. To my utter surprise, the AC has been blowing hot since he topped it. And when I complained to the guy he said he is not really an AC person and suggested I take it for service.

Please any good AC guy in the house staying around Ogba, Agege and Ikeja? I don't want to give it to just any half-baked AC technician to avoid more damage.

This vehicle has an AC module that can be scanned. It might give you some clues.

When you say "normal 10 pin", is 13 pin abnormal?

If you install 10 pin, let me tell you what will happen.

Your vehicle will drive but, 2-3 will be harsh, and you will lose the economy and quieter ride that comes with 13 pin.

The reason for the 2-3 harsh engagement is because 10 pin does not have the capacity to respond when the ECU commands a 3rd gear. See what happens -

First is commanded; 10 pin responds with first ratio.
Second is commanded; 10 pin responds with second ratio.
Third is commanded; 10 cannot respond because it lacks the capacity to. Nothing happens, and RPM climbs.
Fourth is commanded; 10 pin responds with third ratio, reason for the hard shift. Another possible contributors are the accumulator and pressure differences.
Fifth is commanded; 10 pin responds with a fourth ratio.

13 pin has two overdrives - 4th and 5th
10 pin has none (its 4th ratio is 1.020, where as 13 pin's 4th is already 0.975).
10 pin installed on a 13 pin design will leave check engine light permanently on because the 7th solenoid that makes the difference is unconnected, and the TCM is always looking for it. If your vehicle is the type that disables VSC and TRAC when check engine comes on, you will know if it is worth the trade off.

Now you have all the info, it is up to you to make a choice. But if asked my opinion, stick to 13 pin!

How long have you had this replacement 13 pin? How much is 13 pin now?

This 13 pin transmission is becoming a big problem. I had issues with mine, bought toks and changed but I noticed from 2 to 3, the gear discharges completely before it re-engage. The problem is there is no guarantee on transmissions.

It is not an uncommon problem with these transmissions. 13 pin behaves like that if it has performance issue. The issues with mine started just like yours - 2-3 flare. Has it been scanned? A way to tell if you have a 10 pin installed is that you will have a permanent solenoid electrical code, unless done by an initiated.

You were scammed Bro, you bought a 10 pin the conversion was done inside the gear box, socket outside is still 13pin

If he bought a 10 pin, no internal conversion is needed. On the other hand, you will need to change the direct drum in 13 pin to make it work like a 10 pin. His replacement 13 pin is likely with some issues.

Please my fellow nairalanders especially the auto giants, I need your advice. My transmission 13 pin for toyota camry. 2007 model doesn't engage anymore. It reverses but doesnt drive or most times drives sluggishly. I carried out a scan on it and it displayed the following codes P0746, P0796, P0012. I was just worked on the engine as it was smoking but the transmission issue started after I changed the atf to toyota type IV few days back. The gear experts here I took it to say it can be worked on but some said I should save up and buy another gear. Honestly I'm just confused and need guidance on what to do, even if it's just a temporary fix for 6 months to year. Buying another 13pin now is not easy for me with respect to current economic situation. Please advice a brother

A mechanic in Jos successfully repaired a slipping 2nd gear on a 2008 honda accord. The fibres, a seal and an alluminum ring that was worn was replaced.

It worked like magic. I dont have pics of the replaced parts but i do have the open trans pic.

Auto transmission repair works. If I knew what I now know early last year, I would not have gone through that hell!

I did not notice any difference.

I don't have their contact; I only drive down there and buy. I could do you a favour by going there to ask them. They are around my place at Surulere, Lagos.

I drive a V6. The oil comes in a 5litre can. Does not get to the top line on my dipstick, but is okay. Once, I bought the one litre to top off, but it took about half of it.

What I have done so far.
I have reinstalled the thermostate but the check engine is still showing.

@kashif I have clean the surface but just seeing your post. I will do as you say when I returned home.
I noticed that the floor also drips water. I just hope that the cleaning will handle all.

What normally cause "check engine"light

Its not just cleaning, you need to clear the left drainage. I have circled the point in your attached picture.

On your check engine light, one of assorted issues could trigger it. Scan the car for a confirmation.

You are entirely correct. I opened the sun roof and poured water. The right channel drained neatly while the left channel retained the water. After a while, I observed water dripping down to driver's side from the side I opened bonnet and slowly moves to the floor.

Please what's the solution. How will it be cleaned so that I'll advice my mechanic as they all told me to meet a welder?.

Also following your instruction here which I read yesterday, I discovered that my electrician's advice to remove thermostat was wrong. How will it reinstalled. Thanks

A very easy fix you can carry out yourself. Open the sun roof fully, open your driver's door, stand on the door frame, facing the bonnet. This will give you a good view of the sunroof frame from the top (depending on your height) Look at the front right angle of the sun roof frame. Towards the front pillar, that is where the drain pipe is. With a broom stick, poke it until you get the hole ( you usually will not see it if it is water logged). Since the right channel is free, use it as a guide. Once you get it, you will see the water receding.

Whenever i do this, I use about two satchets of water to ensure it is free.

If I was younger, there is no way I would have missed that! Ride on, as long as you have the safety gears on.
