Check your brakes for binding. It could cause such. If your differential isn't having hyoid oil in it it could also cause similar issue accompanied with noise.

Kudos to you guys for doing great job here. I posted to the wrong section the problem of my reverse gear.

I am having issue with my nissan versa 2007 Auto tranny reverse gear (Not responsive at all). It started this morning without given any signs and i took it to auto technicians at University of Ibadan. They initially complained of not servicing the gear, later we agreed they change the oil and clean the filter.

The filter was filled with sludge and thoroughly cleaned but the reverse gear still refuse to respond to acceleration unless i rev higher.

They eventually asked me to consult a gear specialist to fix it.

Please advice.

You are having issues with your reverse drum/clutch/seal. It will continue until reverse is completely lost. Repair or replacement is needed.

Okay.

One thing to note is that solenoid ratio (performance) codes do not point to the solenoids alone. It could be valve or piston/seal. Pistons are among the last to go. It is extreme heat that fries them. Testing the solenoid while still in the vehicle, and vehicle at operating temperature would have been ideal.

The solenoids HARDLY die. 90% of the time, they are stuck.

I shall print a disclaimer for such repairs.

It is very repairable. The issue is that those who attempt these repairs lack the tools and know how. Once you get it right, it goes out and stays out.

With many other brands, you will see what solenoids are getting what at each shift, but it is different in Toyota. You will have to probe and scope any solenoid under investigation to see what is happening to it. You only see input and counter speeds. No line pressure! So it sends you tapping individual ports to see what's happening during diagnosis.That's what I meant by PIDs being useless.

You can't always logically say why it should act up, but you can say how. In my case, I figured out what is causing the issue, but I don't know why what I did should cause that. That's the good part. In repairing, there are things that MUST be done, like making sure your valve body is free from any contamination. Get this right, and you are more than half way towards a beautiful ride.

The box itself is easy to fix, if you know the specs.

This is the process/order of repair
1) vehicle arrive in the workshop on Saturday. shocks, camber, pads n ball joint disassembled.
2)skip sunday- then on Monday hub n shaft was disassembled. its was discovered that the inner bearing and cup had no grease,was so rusted and slightly disintegrated due to exposure to mucky water. hence the need for replacement.
3) on Tuesday, the right leg shaft was also removed to inspect in order to inspect n replace the oil seal. Prior to this, the oil seal leaked oil in drops. so, during this process, 30% of the gear oil leaked out.
4) on Wednesday, all dis assembled parts were refitted back with new ones. the right and left shaft also replace after the oil seal was put in place. the transmission oil too was toped. then the car was started n test driven for a while without any issue coming up.
but by the time I drove the car to a distance of about 3mile, the car began to stall n wont respond to throttle and would engage n disengage at will. so that's how I got to this P0746 error code.

This transmission is respected in the industry as a butt- kicker. It decides when to go bunkers, and how it goes about it. It could send you chasing your tail by only removing a solenoid, and putting same back. Same could happen after just drain and refill. That's the way it is. It is bullet proof but when it acts up, is difficult to troubleshoot, mainly because it's PIDs are useless.

It is not your fault, nor that of your mechanic. Hot or cold, anything can happen! You need to focus on finding a solution now. Disconnect the solenoid harness and see if you have movement (this will cause it to drive in 3rd). Reverse works as per normal. If you have movement, it makes it easier. If you have a couple of tools, you can access this by taking out the battery and it's support.

You can also use a capable scanner and perform active test on the solenoids. You should hear them click with your ear close to the transmission. No click means stuck. Good luck!

But with determination, you, Lonelydora can rebuild a TC. It's not that hard.

What I am looking for is for somebody who imports and sells them, not one that does the reconditioning himself. Core charges on these no dey here.

How do you guys cope with TC replacement?

Using the scan tool makes it faster. Precise and much more reliable. @ times when you don't get to use the scan tool your Abs, VSc trac off etc remains on as the case may be on other cars.

Dear auto gurus of nairaland, I need urgent possible explanation and solution to a transmission problem with my 2005 rx330.
I took the car to an auto mechanic to replace the drive shaft( the inner cup and bearing to be precise), driver side shaft oil seal and also to replace all the brake pads, shocks, ball joint, linkages, camber, engine seatings etc. Car drove well after all the repair but suddenly developed fault after about 3 miles distance drive.
the gear will disengage at will and wont accelerate even when it manages to engage. so I had to manage and take the car back to the auto workshop where it was diagnosed and a P0746 code(- Pressure Control Solenoid A Performance or Stuck Off) was discovered as the reason the car had the problem.

my question now I;
1- what could possible cause this sudden problem to the gear box?
2- could it be that the shaft replacement could trigger a damage to the gear box( - Pressure Control Solenoid A Performance or Stuck Off)?
3- what ways can this issue be resolved?

am not happy about this cos a lot have been spent already. pls, I need your advice.

This happens, and I do not have a straight answer regarding its cause. Those solenoids are known to be touchy so, it is usually the solenoids and/or control valves. Dirt ingress is common.

There are series of diagnosis to be carried out by your technician. First, let him check for pressure in the box when forward or reverse is selected. One thing I have learnt is to only test drive these transmissions (after an adapt reset) only when hot.

If you can wait a couple of days, you won't need to replace your transmission.

No point asking if you did initialisation, because it should not cause a no move. Do you have reverse? Start vehicle, allow it to get to operating temperature and try again.

I need to know the difference using the electronic brake system bleeding found in some scanners makes. If a vehicle is equipped with that functionality and it is not used, what is the implication?

Did you scan the TCM and no code showed up? You need a good bidirectional scanner. Are you in Lagos?

That's it! I don't understand fundamentals as well as I understand technicals so, most of my trades are off technicals. When fellas quote PEs etc, I only look. I have some shares in Skye which I bought on technicals. Will feel bad if it goes under, but won't lose a minute's sleep over it.

The CBN is very culpable in this nonsense that is going on with Skye because when there were rumours swirling around a couple of months ago that Skye was distressed, the CBN released a press statement dispelling the rumours, then allowed Skye go on for almost 6 months without releasing audited results for the previous year, forcing investors to trade blindly. Shareholders of Skye should just institute a class action suit against the management of Skye for hiding results and the CBN for lying to investors.

Yes, TCM (brain box) can cause problems for transmission, but you need to be sure it is the culprit before replacement. In your case, the possibility is remote. Scan vehicle. Check MAF, TPS, VSS, etc. Might even be low atf or plugged filter.

Because some RAV4s have TCM issues does not mean all their transmission issues. That notorious wahala is in the 1 and 2 bind, which toasts the direct clutch.

after a head gasket change and an engine tune up, I was going for an early morning test drive before handing over vehicle to client, was going probably 40km/hr, smooth roads, no clucking or "kpom sounds" and all of a sudden I heard a sudden thud!!! Lost steering control and felt the car lean to the right slamed the brakes and this is what I saw when I came down from the vehicle.

Now we know it happens without the 'kpom' sound

I'm not sure what you mean but this market na real the more you look the less you see. FBNH was on almost full bid right from start of trade this morning! Bid was at 22M+ while offer was a mere 400k+ yet the price no cross 3.99. I placed a trade at 4.1 and it wasn't placed in the market. So except like 21M out of the 22M bids were by one person who placed limit price of less than or equal to 3.99, i really don't get why there wasn't a further increase in trading price.

At 3.99, it was at the maximum possible gain for the day (5%). When I noticed the bid, I checked and saw it was at full 5%, unlike others that could not round up, due to previous close calculation. You will see 4.XX% most places.

I flushed the transmission oil again and also flushed the solenoid as attached. I think solenoid or changer. All in all, the problem still persists.

Next to do is to get someone to come do some diagnostics. I just hate the idea of changing the entire gear box. I will explore all other options as changing the gear box will be the last resort.

You have been advised by many responders here to scan your car. This, you have not done. Start from there!

Meanwhile, I dont understand how washing your engine bay would flood your transmission Did they try to wash the transmission internals too? Can you post a picture of the transmission oil 'compartment' that was flooded and drained?

Have one thing in mind - Honda solenoids don't like strange fluids. So 'flushing' them might effectively be RIP!

You have to be honest to yourself that this thread has been kinda slow recently because people are not buying items due to the high exchange rate.

Patronage here has dwindled due to her abysmally poor customer service. There are other shippers on this section, that you will always find their threads on the first page, because of traffic.

She either feels too big to explain her difficulties, or simply doesn't care what befalls her customers. I am shocked at her attitude, given how long she is supposed to have been into this business. She is always dropping mono line emails when you push for an update. I paid her since 8th of May, and I know how many shipments I have received since then!

I saw others, but went searching for her; a big mistake (for both of us).
