BusinessRe: CBN Considers Ending Dollar Cash Sales To BDCs by Kashif(m): 9:14pm On Dec 11, 2015
Facts

The CBN governer lacks confidence
He is whimsical
He is personalising the Apex bank's operation
CBN is finding it increasingly difficult to regulate the BDCs
There is no yardstick used in determining which BDC accesses fx from CBN; the man at the top tells them the maximum, then elimination sets in
The BDCs are the most formidable conduit pipes for money laundering - 70% of fx received from CBN are bought by public fund thieves.

please car doctor, my 02 Camry enters all gears as long as engine is cold and u haven't done 120km/h, immediately temp gets to 1/4 of the gauge, it stops at gear 3, doesn't upshift. changed gearbox according to a mech, problem persists. what do I do please.
Did you scan the car before replacing transmission? If yes, any code? If no, do that first. You are likely facing electrical or cooling problem.

With all accumulator springs installed, the job on this part of the valve body is complete. Got to run!

Car TalkRe: Rebuilding My '13 Pin' (toyota U151E) Transmission by Kashif(op): 1:46pm On Dec 05, 2015
The upper valve body cover is installed with new gasket and all bolts torqued to 11nm.

Here is a little tricky one. The accumulators determine shift feel - too soft or too hard. You can play around this and see what best suits you. I like firm shifts so, will modify the springs as I please. Here, for the 1-2 accumulator, the one in the middle is replacing the one on the right. Both are inner springs, but the longer, tougher spring delivers a firmer shift. As a rule, the tougher the accumulator spring, the firmer the shift and vise versa.

The clutch apply controller gets a replacement spring - the new white.

New springs are installed. The secondary regulator valve gets a new spring. The orange spring replaces the old one.

All plugs need to be replaced, to avoid leakages at the valve ends. Notice the replacement has seals. Each is lubed and installed (you need to have tough thumbs to do this) angry there are three different sizes.

Car TalkRe: Rebuilding My '13 Pin' (toyota U151E) Transmission by Kashif(op): 1:17pm On Dec 05, 2015
Rebuild has started, beginning with the valve body. I somehow underestimated the work that needs to go into this to do it properly. I spent about three hours on the upper valve body alone, though yes, it has the most parts!

First, had to remove all valves and clean the bores and valves again, since its been a while I did that initially. This time around, I submerged the VB in kerosene for some time. The valves equally got the same treatment. The result was impressive. See the valves and members below.

Valve body gaskets. I was worried about them

Valve body kit. You can see the springs and valve port seals. They come with Teflon rings, unlike the OEM. The primary and secondary pressure regulators are getting new springs, just like the accumulators. The valve body separator plates will need to be drilled at specific points for better shift quality. The two drill bits needed are included in the kit. All 11 check balls need to be replaced.

Assembly lube and flexible silicone. All the parts going in must be lubed

Car TalkRe: Rebuilding My '13 Pin' (toyota U151E) Transmission by Kashif(op): 11:46pm On Nov 28, 2015
And here are the big parts - clutch friction plates and all bonded pistons! All fluid delivered to the clutches for application will work without escaping.

Car TalkRe: Rebuilding My '13 Pin' (toyota U151E) Transmission by Kashif(op): 11:43pm On Nov 28, 2015
Parts have arrived. Below is the overhaul kit. If a transmission's problem is only leakages at the seals, this should fix it. Contains all seals and gasket. You can also see the filter. There are so many seals! There are also the check balls.

My car is honda accord 1998 baby boy. I
accidentally push the gear to reverse while on
speed and since it fails to enter reverse. My
mechanic told me to change the gearbox while
another mechanic said he can replace the
worn-out teeth and gearbox will work fine. Please Mr. Kashif, whose advice should I
follow?
How competent is the repair mechanic? Any referral? Any warranty? Ask him to describe how that transmission works. Tell him another mechanic told you it is the planetary gear that broke. If he agrees or disagrees, he is not competent. Hondas don't have planetary gears! If this is established, go look for a replacement transmission, it will be cheaper, given your car's age.

Ave a cousin who is constantly under the fear of customs anytimehe has to travel out of Lagos simply because his car is coutonou bought. Twice the car was impounded along the road. The conclusion is that he wants to prematurely sell the car. Priority in his replacement option is that it must be Lagos cleared.

I CAN SEE THAT YOU ARE BACK WITH YOUR RUBBISH,SO IT IS NOT ABOUT SMUGGLING AGAIN,IT IS ABOUT ROLLED BACK ODOMETERS, CAN YOU GIVE US PROOF?
https://www.nairaland.com/1799354/cotonou-car-import-not-say

I STILL HAVE YOUR THREAD IN MY ARCHIVE AND TILL DATE,YOU'VE NOT COME UP WITH ANY EVIDENCE.SO YOU WANT TO TELL US THAT VEHICLES SHIPPED THROUGH TINCAN AND SOLD ON THE STREETS OF LAGOS DONT HAVE ODOMETERS ROLLED BACK.

COTONOU HAS AT THIS PRESENT MOMENT IS THE ONLY PLACE WHERE YOU HAVE 1,200 HECTARES OF LAND CRAMMED WITH VEHCILES,SO IF YOU PLAN TO SELL VEHICLES WITH ROLLED BACK ODOMETERS,THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF DEALERS WITH NORMAL ODOMETERS READY TO SELL,SO WHO WILL DARE TAMPER WITH THE ODOMETER?
Auch! why the bitterness? In my thread quoted, I emphasised the odometer rollback, which was not prevalent before. If you honestly do not know Cotonou was not like this before then, I have been there before you started off. You need to learn the ropes.

You have my thread in your archives? grin shocked Is it that important to you? On the other hand, you just refreshed my memory about you! I have nothing against you so, take it not personal. You did not create this thread, and the OP was asking for experiences unlimited. Don't hijack it because people are standing up to misinformation. Cotonou IS NOT CHEAPER THAN BUYING HERE, DEPENDING ON THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. I have stated that here, if you read that part. I have never landed any vehicle at the agent's estimate. Only one agent gave me a realistic estimate, and I thought he was not serious. Reason for making small change is that agents tend to be able to devalue vehicles more at the land borders than sea border. Note, year of manufacture is missing on the duty certificate you posted.

Are you the only Cotonou dealer on Nairaland? Why do you always jump into any thread saying Cotonou is not always the best? It is not healthy.

POINT OF CORRECTION, I DONT SMUGGLE VEHICLES INTO NIGERIA FROM COTONOU, TOUGH LUCK FOR YOU IF YOU'VE BEEN DOING THAT OR YOU STILL SMUGGLE VEHICLES.I'VE PRESENTED MORE. THAN ENOUGH PROOF THAT BUYING FROM COTONOU PAYS FOR SOME/MOST VEHICLES,WE ALL HAVE OUR INTEREST TO PROTECT BUT IF YOU GO THROUGH MY THREADS ON NAIRALAND,YOU'LL NEVER SEE WHERE I'VE SMUGGLED A VEHICLE,EVERY PAPER IS DOCUMENTED AND VEHICLES MOVE FREELY INSIDE NIGERIA.

THERE ARE SO MANY TIMES YOU PAY NORMAL CHARGES FOR VEHICLES AND THEY ARE STILL WAY CHEAPER THAN WHAT OBTAINS IN LAGOS.

HUNDREDS OF NIGERIANS SEEK FOR VEHICLES TO PURCHASE DAILY AND THEY HAVE VARIOUS OPTIONS,EITHER THEY PRE-ORDER,PURCHASE FROM LAGOS OR COTONOU AND AT THE END,EACH AS IT'S NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE SIDE,SO WHAT ARE WE ARGUING ABOUT.

DO THE DOCUMENTS BELOW LOOK LIKE FORGED PAPERS AND THE RAV4 PURCHASED FROM COTONOU WAS CHEAPER THAN THE VEHICLES SOLD IN LAGOS,THE C-number IS ATTACHED IF YOU WANT TO CONFIRM FROM CUSTOMS.
You post somebody's document on a public domain without permission? Very unprofessional, not matter what you are trying to prove.

Its from the bolded that makes me give my friend's idea a 2nd thought as I was almost buying another transmission before I saw this thread.2ndly I don't like my friend's maintenance scheme as he prefers to manage rather than replace.pls @ kashif advice or refer me to a competent specialist.thanks
What year is you car? If you strongly feel it is the valvebody (which I would be pleasantly surprised, should that be the case), I can check it for you. I could not find a competent hand, the reason I am doing what am doing. Scan the car again; this time, paying attention to the code(s).

For starters, let me know the age of your car. In order not to derail this thread, post here: https://www.nairaland.com/1364064/automatic-gearbox-problems/12

If you are importing yourself, go through Tincan. If you are buying, it is relatively cheaper (by about 100k) at Cotonou for a vehicle that is more than 2.5M, after paying duties. Why I hate Cotonou buys? Rolled back Odometers! angry

Pls I need advise on what to do
My E class 320 V6 12plugs had issue with the radiator and was mixing the gear oil with the radiator water,I got the radiator changed and changed the gear oil plus filter, but I notice the gear won't select more than one and two,I got computer to diagnose and it complained of valve body,I'm left wit option of changin the valve body or entire gear, but friend advised I should not,but rather fix thevalve body.before I stumbled on this thread, and like he said that its after I change the gears that I will realise dey are all same but just valve body which is mostly try n error and omo ibo will be using my car to test their valve body.
Pls anyone know a good gear specialist for benz around lagos?I know mine is a minor thing with good hands
I am afraid your friend is wrong this time. What code did you get?

Please can somebody advise me; Honda Odyssey 2002 Model. I changed the ATF with Honda DW I which I bought in Enugu and I was on speed after two weeks and the gear missed and later picked up and continued. Some minutes later it stop picking gear. I used D3 and D1 to get to my destination. Although it stopped a lot of times. I got home and I packed it in the morning, I started the car moved it and it moved but later refuse to enter gear. So what I noticed is that once you start the car the gear will work, but immediately the gear heats up, the gear will not work again. I was adviced to change the ATF again with Dextron III (because we suspected that the Honda DW I was a fake ATF) which I did and still the same problem. please what is the problem and what do I do. I need urgent advice.
Get a competent hand to service your transmission, clean solenoid screens, etc.

Good man, it appears you were right. How do I pay this valve control body some attention, specifically, is there a mechanic familiar with these Mazda systems that you can recommend?

Here is a description of the faults this morning.

I warm the car up for about 4 mins at 5 a.m. when I shift into drive, the gear selector digital display shows 1, then 2, then 4 (!) even before the car moves. The AT (warning light) comes on. I shift to reverse, and the autobox thuds and shakes the car (! yikes !). I shift to park the warning light stays on. I shut off the engine and restart. Everything normal, shifts, movement, everything. I park the car and join my neighbour to work.

Please help with directions on how to solve this problem if u know how. Any wise autobox technicians in Lagos? Thanks in advance
This is resolved?

I commend all the experts who have made out time from their impossible schedules to answer repetitive queries. One of my regrets in life was my failure to learn mechanic work when I was much younger; I console all Nigerian car owners for the nightmare we have to endure from these bunch of quacks who call themselves mechanics.
I drive a V6 2001 Camry xle and recently I noticed the car is not as responsive as it used to and getting too slow for a v6 engined car. I complained to my mechanic in Ibadan and he changed my ATF without seeking my authorisation (meanwhile I had change d gearbox ATF wt d Toyota brand a week before).
The car has become even slower and now there's delay in the shifting of gear.
Please what do I do?
Secondly, I would want to know the implications to the car of converting the car to manual?
Thank you as I await a very urgent response from the house.
God bless you all.
Perform a stall test. If you don't know how to, I will explain.
