my name is amara and I'm staying in ikeja Lagos state .. got a Germany used golf4 2.0L with auto transmission last year August at 900k .. I love the car if not for anything at least for the massive weight and blance when I'm on high speed and I love Germany cars though I hear they are expensive to maintain ..

but please the help I need here is the my gear doesn't select automatically anymore ..since after my intercooler got faulty and mixed my coolant with the ATF ..I had to change the intercooler, the valve body and the oil filter and I used five liters of mobile ATF .. it didn't still select ..I use my hand to change from one to three manually ..but I need to fix it unfailingly tomorrow ..please if anybody knows a good gearbox mechanic that can do it ..please help me..I promise that if it got fixed tomorrow ..at least 2k will be yours .. send your account number and I'll transfer the 2k to you ... this is a cry for help .. I feel sick if my baby (my car) is faulty .. thanks y'all

I want to buy this Nissan Almera but is mostly used by taxi men in Abuja here.

Though the one i want to buy is with two door.

Please advise, is it ok as a lady to drive the car because I dont want a situation where people will be stopping me on the road thinking it is a taxi.

Nothing was touched all through except the CV joints themselves. I was there the entire time. One Auto tech whom I was recommended to suggested that my technician pulled out the shaft from the transmission without letting the vehicle cool down. He was the opinion that cold air rushing into the tranny force-cooled the delicate gears within and subsequently ruined the tranny. While that sounded plausible, I didn't really believe if it was the case cos if it was, the reverse gear would have been ruined as well.

Another point was that I changed the atf after d CV replacement as some were lost when the shafts were removed. Everything went downhill after the joints were refixed. Right now the current tranny has thrown a CEL. Scanned and it showed Transmission Pressure Solenoid issue. Whatever that means!

Lol. I went to change my faulty CV joints sometime last year only for the transmission to fail immediately the job was completed. The car couldn't even make it out of the workshop. Reverse was perfect, forward gears would engage but the car would remain static. No movement whatsoever.
After numerous consultations, the bottom line I got was that the 13 pin transmission was unfixable. I jejely parted with almost 300K for a toks to save myself from HBP. Still kept the old granny till this day. I hope you can pull this off. I really do!!

Leaving your car in drive while in traffic puts load on the engine and transmission? Do you understand what you're saying? That's like saying a person that runs track and field experiences load when he's not running. Hahaha!!!!

it is also always good to verify whatever you read from the internet. I asked you to use a Bluetooth scanner to check your engine load when idling in traffic with your transmission in drive and check same load again when idling in traffic with your transmission in Neutral or park. If you r are in PH, I will drive over to wherever you are and do this for you if you don't mind.
When an automatic transmission is in Drive and the car is at a stop, the torque converter allows the transmission to slip so that the engine does not stall. This slipping is akin to riding on your clutch in a manual car when on a slope. In a manual car after some time, you will perceive your clutch being burnt. Same thing is happening to your auto transmission only that it's the fluid that is being burnt up in this case. The fluid can withstand a high degree of heat but over time it eventually gets burnt ( hope you get the picture?). Because the transmission is slipping but not disengaged, some load is still transmitted to the flywheel and therefore to the engine. More load equals more fuel. I hope you got the picture now.
If you are going to be at a stand still for a long time in traffic, put your transmission in N or P, engage your parking brake and relax your leg while you wait. It does a lot of good to your pocket, the environment, your engine and your transmission.
Note: I said this applies to Conventional Auto transmissions. Some modern Auto transmissions disengage the transmission from the engine when it is at a stand still and idle for a certain time only to reengage it once you step on the throttle.

please I have a Lexus ls400 car with "ect pwr" light comes up and starts blinking anytime I accelerate. scanned for codes and it gave p0773 shift solenoid e electrical. a mechanic changed the shift solenoid e for me and new trans fluid but still the same... what could be wrong?

If you keep your foot on the brake pedal on heated rotors (after heavy use), the pad contact areas will cool at a different rate to the rest of the rotor. This is what causes them to warp.

In summary, the differences in heat dissipation at different points on the rotor's surfaces causes warping. Driving the car hard, and braking often WILL get the rotors hot, BUT as long as the pads are not clamped in the same spot for prolonged periods, cooling will be uniform.[/color]

I have a gear problem with my Honda accord. All measures have been tried and to solutions but I have made up my mind to buy another gear. I need your brotherly advice on what to look at for before buying it because our people are funny when it comes to matters like this. They claim to sell a tokunbo gear but sometime it is a repaired one. Kindly advice on the gear oil to buy, if it requires scanning after/before and other things to watch out for.

Again, lights like ABS, SRS and Engine check displays and the mechanic said if I change the gear box, they will all disappear.

Thanks for your help and other suggestion is welcome.

they are good scanners.they both have their advantages and disadvantages. Jobs that can be done and jobs that's can't be done. If you can afford it buy Both.

hope you are using the most recent version? Disconnect car battery for 10mins and try again, if it does not work try another TCM

Firstly, I will say that reading your post here enticed me to join Nairaland.
I was highly touched by the pains you passed through just to put your car in order. While in a different country I experienced gearbox problem in my car, having changed gearbox 2 times in a year I gave up and sold my car in a throw-away price just to save myself from the anger. After that my second, third and forth cars all went fine without any gearbox problem before I sold them.

I just bought 2007 Toyota Rav4 V6 with low mileage and recently I had one problem (Car won't start) so I was searching online and found out that MANY in USA had the same problems (From 2006 to 2010 Rav4 models) which is the fault of Toyota which has to do with the "Neutral Start Switch Assembly" the small trick to temporary solve the problem is "push the gear from neutral to parking then start" but maybe you are lucky your car neutral safety switch was changed in USA before you bought it.......refer to:

Another problem you may experience is the battery, the battery life in Rav4 (2006 to 2010) does not last long because it has many electrical burden on it even the power steering depends on the battery. In most cases it dies within 2 years (Experience from others).

You should have Car Diagnostic tool to scan your car for error codes, don't always rush to mechanic because most of them in Naija work by guessing "It maybe this, it maybe that, change it" at the end the problem will not be solved and money wasted.

Planning to visit Naija soon, I just need to buy some of those tools (Multimeter, OBD2 scanner & so on) at least I could know the problem of my car before calling a mechanic to fix it. I hate when they work by guessing because the more they guess the problem of your car and tell you to change what is not even the problem causing unnecessary waste of money.

The CBN is proposing to replace Bureau De Change (BDC) operators with Travelex. This move will allow Travelex to take over the retail segment of the BDCs, in order to checkmate the inflated exchange rate by the BDCs against the official rate from the CBN.

A quick research on Travelex tells that the firm is foreign, owned by the US. https://www.travelex.com
Which means the maximum profit from this deal with Travelex doesn't belong to Nigeria(ns), irrespective of the amount of Nigerians this foreign exchange dealer employs.

An alternative way out
The CBN has branches in all state capitals, which I believe handing over this operation of creating minimum of three outlets (exchange offices) in every top three cities of their states can be effectively handled by them. And more outlets for populated cities with much economics activities.

The benefits
The exchange rate can be perfectly regulated with minimum gap between the official rate and the parallel market rate.
Profit goes to the government after those Nigerians employed(by the CBN state HQs) to work in these outlets have been paid.

With the present state of the economy, I believe the Government should encourage the citizens against too much dependence on foreign services and goods that we can create locally. Except the CBN does not have the financial expertise and logistics that Travelex has, there is no brain in this proposed deal.

Same way how our budget contains certain millions to be spent on German rides for the presidency in 2016. What stops them from buying locally assembled foreign automobiles, if they have no interest in locally mades ones (for reasons best known to them)?

Perhaps there is something I'm missing, Economists should please explain to us how 'Travelex' is the best option for retailing of foreign exchange.

This country shouldn't be for sale.
