Goodday all..I've had my own fair share of transmission issues with 2 previous Honda cars I used In the past..each time I get a new car ie toks or fairly used..lol ie any,new to me..I develop fear as to what I will do if I experience tranny issues or which original atf to use if i have to service.I live in abuja..here all the mechanics I meet seem to be more interested in squeezing out all the money u can muster.I'm so scared about cars now cuz they gulp good money atimes half of what I used to buy the car.but with no solution in sight.often worse than wen i drove into thier shop.now..I own this madza xedos 6 car with automatic gear that suddenly developed tranmission issues..it refused to select gear 4 and 5 again

3. 20 -80 Rule - Drain and refill actually gets out less than 50% of atf in the transmission

4. Clunks do not always come from wrong atf. As a matter of fact, this happens with 5% of clunks.

Auto tranny vehicles have tow load specifications. On the other hand, you can tow an auto tranny vehicle, but avoid riding the wheels connected to the tranny. (There are more details to this).

7. Use of plain water alone as coolant is a bad idea, but it will not kill your transmission.

8. Not sure of where to start on this one. The auto transmission takes care of all overtaking needs well in D.

9. "Bottom plates" (sumps) deform; they dont crack, but like you have pointed out, can cripple transmissions when they do.

ZF transmissions are reliable. It must have been poor diagnostics. You would have been saved from even the first change, if done properly.

It was persistent gear issue that killed my last car.

After spending and respending so much money to fix it without luck, I decided to sell it.

Got 300k gear system twice within 3 months, both packed up within few days of use.

Doesn't really matter coz these are burnt n bad fibres and are going to be replaced with new sets, I won't expose the new sets to dirts n it would still be washed properly b4 rebuilding the new transmission. Thanks for your concern.

I am seeing O/D drum/clutch, forward clutch and final drive there, and I know those aren't gonna be replaced. It is better to limit your contamination risk as much as you can in the first place.

There is no 2006 to 2008 Rx 330. If you are looking at reliability and maintenance, relegate the Edge.

Are you the one working on the transmission and exposing it to dirts like that?

There was a rupture in the transmission cooler in the radiator, which allowed engine coolant to mix with the atf. That transmission needs to be replaced. Good the radiator has been replaced. Transmission work, and cooler line flush is all you need. The flush is important because you need to get rid of the contaminated atf that will remain in the cooler.

How did this go?

Experienced peeps here (and documentation) all point to the fact you are having low oil pressure. Filling the oil to the valves won't change a thing. Another risk even arises from the overfill.

Check transmission oil. Is it milky?

Unfortunately, the transmission oil Guage broke so there's no way to know it's real guage so I'm trying to get another. I used the engine guage to check if there's any oil and there's but i can't know the true guage

Wether you change your atf or not depends on some factors - what is its state? Oxidised? Burnt? Has debris? It is not a straight yes or no. Hydraulics are hygroscopic, which means they tend to take in moisture. This will increase the heat in your brake system, and degrade its performance over time. Again, there is no harm in driving the care with the current fluids. Most imported new to you cars have maintenance document. It should contain the info you need to make the decisions.

When I got my current car, I drove it until the maint rqd indicator came on before changing the engine oil. It's possible what you rush to replace beats the replacement hands down.
