plaetton: Twins were being killed not because of any religious beliefs. They were simply ignorant of reproductive biology. They, like many primitive cultures, were afraid of wat they did not understand. They did not kill twins for religious reasons, rather, for superstitious fear. But religion was their lens to the world and its workings, therefore twin killings could be owed to religious reasons like Spirituality and co. |
@mr anony Good that thread is moving forward. The moral changes as expressed in the NT are systematic, drastic and reformative. There is more emphasis on Love and Community than in the OT. There wasn't a separation btw Gentiles and Jews, or clean and unclean. And Jesus being the only and final way to Heaven. These were not in the OT. Given that the human nature is "sinful", most of the Mosiac laws would be redundant. Moses had set clear rules and punishment also precedents to back up. A man caught picking sticks on a Sabbath was stoned. Therefore Jesus' rationale is radically different from the obligation given to the Jews by God to mechanically follow his Commands. As to the totalitarian aspect of God, the existence of sentient beings eliminate the dictatorship of God. |
Buzugee unfortunately your so called prophecies are steeped in subjective bias. I mentioned CLEAR |
noetic16: Quite LAME. The subject of discourse is Jehovah God.At the point of death, there are many options: Jehovah, Zeus, Odin etc |
buzugee: the bibles validation does not require faith. there are prophesys that have actually happened and you can see the prophesys that were prophesied thousands of years ago coming to fruition. You mean ppl do see the future?? Ok, give CLEAR examples. |
buzugee: this aint no adventure Brah. this is life. this is reality. i live this life. if you can break down daniel chapter 7 and 8, revelation chapters 6, 12, 13, 14 17 18. if you can break those books down accurately, you will join me in this with a quicknessAnd if you can prove for the bible's validation aside Faith. |
ijawkid: I will say this that atheists are the ones who'll loose big time....Don't discount the numerous Gods and religions. |
Ihedinobi: Point 1 is thrown out. The lawgiver is not subject to the law he/she/it gives. Furthermore, it has no bearing on the subject. The uncommanded commander concept is obsolete. Lawgivers provide such rules for a society which they are part of. It is also taken that even absolute monarchs must respect certain rules of a universal community and moderation. ihedina: Point 2. Define the Sabbath and describe how Jesus broke it. Also explain how He "pointed to its (the Sabbath's) hypocrisy and impracticability."Jesus used a scenario of a farmer rescuing his sheep from a ditch. In order words, work is inevitable. And Sabbath: a day of no work is impracticable. Even miracles should be done on Sabbath. inhunedon: I'm making the last paragraph Point 3. Show how Jesus's dining with "sinners" and "rescuing" an adultress (I'm being generous here, your response to this generosity will decide my attitude to you through the rest of our debate) amounted to breaking the Mosaic law. I'm leaving out the insult part for lack of relevance. Don't make me pick it up, please. I won't go easy on you if I have to.By Mosiac laws, a prostitut.e MUST be stoned, but Jesus disobeyed and disregarded it. |
buzugee: seeems ok till you are roasting with him in 1000000 degrees fireBuzugee, you are really scaring yourself. You keep forgetting that your Christian adventure is on a faith cruise. "I believe" not "it is" |
^^ The 10 commandments: 1. Thou shalt not kill. Yet God commanded genocides and murder. 2. Keep the Sabbath. Jesus broke that several times and pointed to the hypocrisy and impractibilty of the Sabbath. Jesus dined with "sinners", rescued a prostitute from capital punishment of Moses, constantly insulted the Pharisees. |
Like all theologians @ihedinobi is acting like a crook. The supposed moral giver is the same breaker, the Devil ought to be the breaker. Also, the God is an Israeli god. Jesus didn't continue the trend in the OT, there was more like a substantial break away from Mosaic morality. Jesus disregarded Sabbaths, punishments doled out by Moses, insulted the prophets and workers of God. Jesus did create a NEW religion. |
^^ I think politicaians are men of God too. |
If you are unable and unwilling to hold your religious leaders accountable and responsible, you would also be unable to do the same to the political leaders. It is Chief Mentality. |
davidylan: Is that a peer-reviewed science journal? You claimed there was no empirical evidence of evolution, that's sufficient. |
onatisi: ok fine tb is a devil so what the hell is ur business with that ?how does that concern ur familY or lif?ok if tb prophesies by the spirit of darkness by what spirit do ur own pastors prophesy?pls kindly grow upDespite the obvious fraud, ppl still back him. This is irresponsible. |
davidylan: who said there was? This should help. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transitional_fossil |
^^^ So you agree with mr anony that Gravity is an abstract and Energy is ability?? |
You gave some very wrong examples or perhaps you didn't get my question. gravity for instance is not something that behaves in a certain way, gravity is the behaviour itself. we were talking about natural order and things following that order gravity is one such natural order, energy is an ability. They are in a sense abstracts. You have not mentioned any entity that follows an order but the order the entity follows is explained by observing it in isolation i.e an object moving but which you don't need the law of motion to explain it's movement; the moving object just explains the phenomenon of movement in itself. There is no such thing. for irrationality and disorder to occur, there must be order and rationality from which it deviates. For rationality and order to exist, there must be one that rationalizes and puts the order in place
Gravity is an abstract? Energy is ability?? I doubt if we are eferuing to the same terms. |
It is beyond that. Evolution is an integrative force in biology and medicine. Scientific fields and explanations have been based on the theory of evolution. The reason for the diversity of life is being owed to it. It would do you no good, to keep regarding evolution as a rival religion/myth. Attacking evolution is attacking Science. |
God has retired from coming downstairs. |
Creationists do accept evolution in microorganisms etc, they accept gene mutation, they accept the emergence of species, in other words, evolution itself. |
davidylan: and does that also apply to your tenuous belief in a theory that has no empirical basis? Seriously... you're here gripping about how christianity has no rational basis while bleating about how the big bang is the origin of man? Absolute incredulity.Of course, castles built in the sky must crumble. BUT the Big Bang theory is a scientific theory. But like Galileo, it conflicts with the supernatural teachings of the Church. |
No, I didn't say that. |
An omnipotent being definitely has more discretion than an average Joe. |
Gravity. Energy |
The Big Bang theory is a scientific theory, and as such has an empirical basis. |
Why should I presume a disorganised world?? If all entities have their characters and behave in a predictable manner, wouldn't order be natural?! |
davidylan: On that we are agreed. I think we can also come to an agreement that your blind devotion to speculative, unproven "theories" is no different from the "faith" in the bible you deride. Then the entire Christianity crumbles without a rational or empirical ground and can't be a good source of morality and useless in metaphysics. For it must be subscribed to by Faith. |
Part of it. By virtue of his freewill, he has a very wide discretion, which if labelled as good would result to unsavoury conclusions. |
I'm not dancing around, but following the compelling reason you provide. It only means awarding an attribute of good intrinsi to a freewilled being will cause issues. My conclusion is the basis of good is not defined by a moral agent, rather by the value of the action. îe genocides by itself is bad because of the destructive effect on humanity, while self defence is good, because of its a position of necessary self preservation. Whereas God has the true free will, emotions and interests, it would be a distortion of the sense good to attribute it to everything he does, and like wise bind God to a moral sphere. |
