If God was omniscient, he wouldn't need prayers to do the right thing.

Deep Sight:
I never said that, Mr. Homer. I said very simply that that is not, and never will be, the innate purpose of art.

If you think commercial enterprise is an innate purpose of art, i can only conclude that you are not an artist

Leonardo Da Vinci, easily for me the most brilliant man ever to walk the earth, earned money from art, amongst his many other briliiant endeavours. I do wonder though, if you think that that was the innate purpose of his art.

Tell me you're kidding.
Purpose can be very dynamic, a knife has a variety of purposes which even the maker did not anticipate

Deep Sight:
God is the self-existent eternal and fundamental principle of reality that actuates all things in itself.

All things are caused by the principle of GOD. The GOD-principle, I might say.

If matter is caused by it, then it cannot itself be matter. Thus it is immaterial.

Heck, principles are immaterial anyway.
Principles attract meaning in relation to matter, its not self dependent. If God is not physical, then this present world wouldnt be either except if he

created out of nothing! which is impossible. Also the essence of design is diminished if he has to create anything from nothing. Cos nothing also means no preexisting conditions to warrant accommodation of one's invention.
Christianity Etc › Re: The Idea Of God by Kay17: 5:10pm On Sep 29, 2011
There always has to be something rather than nothing and it is definitely material, cos nobody knows what the non physical is like. God then should a physical guided by physical laws

A painting could have other purposes apart from that which the known designer created it for. Purpose could very dynamic. In this present universe,

what is its most objective purpose? Promote life?

life is a very small and fragile part of the universe and all the components of the universe do not

have not an impact on us.

Self-expression? that is if he is in the shoes and brains of man. Primitive societies have made similar mistakes: failing to

recognize the power of Nature and perhaps Chance
Christianity Etc › Re: The Idea Of God by Kay17: 1:49pm On Sep 29, 2011
The introduction of a Creator is credible enough to explain the orderliness, complexity and stability of the universe, however the intelligent creator is

himself: orderly, intelligent, brimming with purpose and complex which leaves the obvious question, who caused or created him? We have eventual

created uncaused and timeless hypotheses for our Grand Creator/Hypothesis!

The Beginning not just within our reach

The current arrangement is best, secular limits which trim the public excesses of religion. Otherwise we commit the crime of dogma
Christianity Etc › Re: Atheism Is A Religion by Kay17: 1:13pm On Sep 29, 2011
@ Enigma

Other national constitutions like ours, use  'Religion' to cover all personal philosophies and thoughts. That an individual's ideas are protected, that will

include religion, though peculiar by its supernatural approach is still under a philosophical thought.

The American constitution expresses the same sentiment by the use of religion, and their courts follow that line.

Christianity Etc › Re: Science Confirms The Bible by Kay17: 4:11pm On Sep 08, 2011
Religion and science are two very different and seperate topics and should be treated that way. Religion's value is not one of knowledge or truth.
Holy books have not been good science books, they lack concrete details, or ascertainable method of truth. Maybe they are better moral codes or psychological boosts. Adding what the bible didnt say is cause more conflicts and absurdity

What use is humanity and earth to the entire universe? If we are a creation of a creator, what is how purpose and relevance to him in relation to the entirety of creation?

@graillife yep, thats why evidence is important. @oohunt man is evil and god created good things and man is a creation of god?! :-/ i would have agreed there is god if there was no evil. So why is there evil?
Christianity Etc › Re: Does God Truly Exist? I Am Dumbfounded by Kay17: 5:43am On Aug 15, 2011
@graybeard, suddenly he's interestd in definitions! But they are important. I define miracles as extreme odds overcoming all to occur. The prominent religious definition is a suspension of natural laws for deux machina to occur. Thus from cancer disappearing to dwarfs growing taller. So the healing of amputees is on that list.
Christianity Etc › Re: Atheists Do Not Reject Your God. by Kay17: 10:15pm On Aug 14, 2011
@graybeard if everything is an effect from a cause, then the cause an effect of another cause then u have an infinite regress - an impossibility. For example, assuming god is the cause of the universe, then another god the cause of the first god, and on and on. Also matter is such a dynamic force, indestructible, ever changing. Transformed to life energy light. A state of nothingness cannot be said to exist as its a complete n total void of space, time, matter, even pigment. There will be nothing to progress. As to christianity, its another religion with far fetched ideas and beliefs which are not expected to be reasonable. The extent of ignorance from the bible is overwhelming, and obviously not for any practical utility. Neither can it be used as a yardstick of morality. The fervent themes of racism, bigotry, violence and stupidity prove that the bible has long outlived its usefulness beliefs which are not expected to be reasonable. @graybeard since u believe the universe had a creator (who is invisible to all). Then like david hume, what is the purpose of the universe? Who created this very complex being God?
Christianity Etc › Re: Atheists Do Not Reject Your God. by Kay17: 5:00pm On Aug 14, 2011
@enigma how is it possible to discuss a subject without identifying or defining it? U create zero topic for discussion. No one needs to be omniscient to gain an item of knowledge. U failed to provide any characteristic of god u wish to talk about and yet u expect one to be omniscient! Besides what the chances for a subject other than matter, life, that can think, reflect, omnipresent, disconnected from time to exist?
Christianity Etc › Re: Atheists Do Not Reject Your God. by Kay17: 2:20pm On Aug 14, 2011
@rhino i do not think dogged determination in defending and propagating one's views or stands amounts to religion. It would be ridiculous. Religion is invariably defined and tied with the supernatural. Also, the idea there is god or gods is entirely a religious one. It is backed by their unique means of detecting it/she/he - faith. To me, faith is a surrender of one's rational faculty. Thus the idea of god or gods is not suppose to be reasonable or scientific. The natural world has also proved that a conscious hand need not pile up mountains, or cause earthquakes, or plant, or cause lightning, or affect weather . . . If god is introduced, the cause of his consciousness must be probedis introduced, the cause of his consciousness must be probed
