Christianity Etc › Re: Is It Proper To Skip Praise & Worship On Sunday Service ? by Kay17: 10:55am On Jul 17, 2016
It is hard to see why a self sufficient being needs praises. Imagine this Being responsible for the magnitude of the Universe and the billions of galaxies would bow so low to satisfy the petty neediness of modern Christians.

The truth is Christians are into Christianity for what they can get. They are serve God in the hope of material gains and benefits. As long as God fills or promises to fill their pockets they are for him.

Whereas a mighty God doesn't need them

The life of Jesus
The excellence of the Bible
My personal experiences
The rationality of the christian worldview itself
The arrow of available archaeological and scientific evidence which points to creation
The life and testimonies of other christians around me
The amount of devotion, bigotry, obsession, vituperation and other forms of attack against Christianity
The numerous attempts by non-believers to replicate the christian doctrine and water it down
The clarity of the supernatural
The products of religious minds: Past and Present.
The intellectual honesty of some atheists.......

And I can go on and on...Anything can serve as evidence for God for various individuals. Some find meaning with God.

The question is not what would serve as evidence, it is what would serve as enough evidence.
My worries: how are you able to provide the existence of a metaphysical being in the absence of faith?!

In the absence of faith there can be no God. And a key element of faith is it's subjectivity

The cause of violence was traced to pressures on land like overgrazing on farmlands. As responsible leaders should, a solution ought to be proffered. Cattle from the North feed the South. The cattle rearers mostly transport their cattle on foot to the South. These cattle have to eat on their way b down South.

Wouldn't it then be unwise to resist the only reasonable solution on the basis of tribalism? If there are no grazing areas delineated for that purpose, wouldn't the violence continue?

Now if atheists are right then there should be no consciousness at all. In a purely physical world consciousness would be the anathema, something strange. But there is consciousness and therefore the atheist is not correct. Consciousness being immaterial cannot be explained by physical means. It did not evolve since evolution applies to physical beings. It does not spontaenously emerge because emergence typically deals with how complex PHYSICAL systems arise from simpler precursors. Atheism being materialistic in nature has nothing to offer to explain mental awareness. But the theist believing in an eternal conscious God has a means to explain consciousness. And that my friends wraps up my argument.

God is conscious. The state of consciousness is not irretrievably merged with God's Being. Now since you have always asserted God is eternal it would imply consciousness is eternal. So you are not really proving Consciousness is eternal but that it is eternal IF God exists

Christianity Etc › Re: The Bible And Slavery: Answering Ignorant Atheists by Kay17:
Slavery is a condition more recognizable than its label. It is easier to draw hair splitting distinctions between indentured servitude and base slavery. Both denigrate the human. What difference is there if a slave master is nice and neat with his slaves when such efforts perpetuate and promote a system where the human is an actual commodity prone to obscene abuse.

Besides do you prefer Biblical indentured servitude or the secular anti Slavery values today?

Heyyy smiley

You know, you're right.
Perhaps, if I had thought out the topic, I wouldn't have added atheists.

I actually copied the topic verbatim from damogul. I went with it because atheists are good at proffering explanations for stuff like this.

A Christian would tell me it's God.
I do not exactly doubt the veracity of that, but then....perhaps there's an explanation.

What happened?
What did I do rightly?

Other times the marks returned on other parts, what did I do wrongly?

Why do these marks appear anyway?

Telling me I must have scratched myself won't cut it. I have very short fingernails and sometimes these these appear in weird and unscratchable places.

Now about natural and super natural.

We are humans and I believe our realities differ. What is super natural and abnormal to me might as well be natural and normal to you.

If a man gives birth or carries a foetus, or a woman gives birth through her Amy's instead of her Vagiina, it is super natural, it is abnormal.

Now because we have never experienced any of these does not mean we should dismiss the possibility either now or in the nearest future.

Things happen, I hear weird stories. Most of the time, I doubt them. But when I remember what happened to me, I tell myself "Oh well, it might be true, it mightn't be true."

You omit a part. You think your narrative fits into a ready made worldview -- a spiritual worldview. A wound mark running down your arm and erasing so quickly fits the narrative of a spiritual attack. You heard many similar stories and believe your story shouldn't be dissimilar from those.

Assuming you had no prior knowledge of an African spiritual attack, wouldn't you have searched for another explanation within a secular worldview?!
Christianity Etc › Re: Atheists Please I Need An Explanation. Coincidence Or Reality? by Kay17: 8:21am On Jul 05, 2016
Probably I'm not the only one to notice that modern Christians treat their God as a means to an end. The end these Christians search for is purely material progress. They want to be very rich and materially contented.

As a result they have a myopic perspective of a God. They tailor God to their petty ends. Aren't there greater tragedies so revolting that the goodness of God and mankind have been called to question.

Hello, please check your Tenancy Agreement. If it has the words TERM CERTAIN then I'm sorry by law all the landlord is required to give you is seven days. If the words don't feature then as a yearly tenant you are entitled to six months notice. Even if you are a tenant at will. There are decided cases up to the Supreme Court on this issue. You should have had a lawyer read your agreement before signing. It's usually a land mine set by lawyers for ignorant tenants. I rescued a lady recently from signing such an agreement recently. The best you can do is plead with your landlord for an extended time which he may generously give. If not he is backed by law. Check your Tenancy Agreement.
Term certain merely ensures it's not a yearly tenancy but a fixed tenancy upon its Iapse leaves the tenancy as one at will or statutory tenancy.

When the financial crisis hit the US in 2008, the govt. had to bail out wall street, the alternative then meant a looming depression, massive unemployment and the likes.

Now agreed this isn't in anyway as major as that, but still if the opportunity cost of doing so is less, government can always intervene, introduce an economic incentive to assist companies from closure.
The funds badly desired for roads bridges and other infrastructure should not be used to socialize businessmen's losses. AMCON already absorbs bad debts and bailed out the banks by cutting off the toxic risks.

But my humble view is the president is not the commander in chief of the Economy he has no constitutional duty to salve it neither should he be blamed for it.

A new structure would have a lot of benefits to the people. Especially in areas of delivering the dividends of democracy to the masses. Nigeria is plagues by divisiveness which has hampered our development, strengthing the regions bridges that gap on tribal and religious bias, people will feel more xomfortable with their leaders, this structure will ensure a disjointed development approach. Where states focus on their areas of comparative advantages. Many states in nigeria lie dormant with resopect to their over all contribution. Developments at state and local levels will aim at creating emerging markets and job growth. the growth of any region will be dependent on the mental nous of the governor of that region as as well as the supposrting regional government arms.

The advantages of a decentralized system is so great especially in a divisive nigerian system
1. Would the new regions solve the issue of tribal and ethnic bias or promote it?

2. How large would the regions be?

3. How much independence would they be given?

4. Can Federalism be too much?

5. How would the Conflicts between the regions be resolved?

6. Is this Federalism centred around natural resources?

7. Does the failure and lack of imagination of the present State and local government damage the prospects of federalism?

Sorry to butt in but I thought I'd try and answer this.

Evil isn't a "thing" in and of itself. It isn't some independent, invisible force or substance that infects and controls people. Evil only truly exists in an adjective sense. Actions can be evil, if they are intentionally taken to cause harm. Thoughts can be considered evil, if they contain hatred and spite. Evil actions are caused by evil thoughts, and evil thoughts can be caused by all manner of factors in a persons life. Egos gone haywire, obsession, hatred, or depression spiraling out of control. Even brain damage can cause a person to become hateful and want to kill.

So to sum up, "evil", as a noun, is a thing of myth. There are only humans, with thoughts or actions that can be evaluated as being evil (adjective), due to the harm they cause or intend.
Language is a vehicle for thought. It will be misleading to forget the purpose of language and employ language for purposes it is not suited for. An analysis grounded basically on the use of language without attempting to find the idea or thought language itself is trying to convey is self defeating.

Back to Evil, it is irrelevant whether it is a noun or an adjective or whatever. Language attempts to mirror the reality of Evil which we must admit is difficult to express.

Evil for me goes beyond harm and is an intrusion into my system of values. For example cowardice or rape. While misfortune or accidents or natural disasters are not evil to me inspite of their harm because they are situations/opportunities where the best characters shine brightest.

How is this so ? what external satisfaction ?

What do you think?
Because the virtue of self sufficiency and independence themselves eliminate the need for external satisfaction. And a Universe without humans will go on with indifference.

Lies from the pit of Hell . Satan has always wanted man , who is higher than the angels , to fail to attain his unimaginable glorious position when he reigns eternally with God .

We are free moral agents to whom God will reveal Himself unto .
1. The argument that a self sufficient Being requires a means of external satisfaction is repugnant.

2. Assume this near infinite universe lacks humans, would that stop the motions of the stars and galaxies? Would the universe freeze?

Evil is the absence of good like malvis said.

Its like blaming TOYOTA whenever a brand has an accident. Does it then that Toyota or whichever created accidents? NO! our choices bring about evil. God gave us a freewill and there's a consequence for every decision we make. The physicist would call it the laws of cause of effect which is the 2nd law of motion. For every action, there's an equal and opposite reaction.
Is a flawed judgment made out of the lack of an intellect free will? Is a decision out of ignorance free will?

Actually no. There are scientific principles found in the bible, so those writers ain't dumb as you claim they were. God can decide to withhold the future from Himself just to find out something. If He wanted to find out something and He looks into the future to find out, then there is no point in trying to find out again because He already knows the answer.
What is more important to you is an external validation of the Bible. You are not really concerned with the authenticity of the scientific principles in the Bible.

"And He said, touch not the lad neither do anything to him: for now I know that you fear God, seeing that you have not withheld your son, your only son from me." - Genesis 22:12.

"And He said, who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree, which I commanded you that you should not eat?" - Genesis 3:11.

With the above scriptures, we can see that in these cases, God decided not to foreknow the future. It would sound absurd for Him to have known the exact time, date and second they would eat of the tree and then when the time comes, He begins to ask "Have you eaten the fruit?."

Also during Abraham's test, He said "Now I know" which shows He decided not to know the future....
By saying God decided not to fore know the downfall of Adam and Eve, especially when the relevant verse does not say so, betrays your assumption that the God the Genesis is talking is omniscient. Is it possible to set your sight on an object and refuse to see it without turning your eyes away?!

You should be honest enough to admit the possibility that God in Genesis is not conceived in the same manner as God in the other books in the Bible.

The Bible was not written by one man but a cultural and religious output of an ancient Nation.

Yea, He also gave angels freewill, the Devil chose to misuse his own freewill, he suddenly developed a proud attitude since he was a god...........
You have to admit that the free will exercised by lesser beings is not with the same infinite range that God possesses. Otherwise we humans are Gods with equal relevance as God himself which is in effect blasphemy.
Christianity Etc › Re: Debunking Religion With One Question by Kay17:
lordnicklaus:
I will answer the question on the first pic using an illustration.
A teacher was solving a question pertaining to Math and then a student stands up and says the teacher is wrong, if the teacher immediately sends the student out, other students will conclude that the teacher is actually wrong and the student is right, instead the teacher hands over to the student to solve the equation his own way and if he can't solve it right, he can then punish him. It is the same with God. Besides, no evil in this world is ever caused by God.
That's a dangerous assertion because God is deemed an absolute arbiter. By virtue of this absolute power, evil can not sneak into the world without not just his knowledge but with his authority.

So to say God is not the ultimate cause of evil is to also imply God loses control over his creation
