@OP
Ehn, get used to it. Funny thing is, its the same in just about any other forum out there. Newbie comes along, says something and breaks some silent ''rule'', and the entire rat-pack decends on him/her. grin
In any case, its a measure of your self-confidence... and general knowledge. I mean, if you actually know what you're talking about, you wouldn't get phased easily, eh? wink

@odumchi,
Your points are well thought-out, but i respectfully beg to disagree. I don't think our geography has anything to do with it; the root of problem lies in our SCHOOLS and EDUCATION SYSTEM.
-
For any culture/community/civilization to progress, it has to PRODUCE or MANUFACTURE something, an END PRODUCT, that others don't have. Or failing that, it has to DUBLICATE the technology/advancements of others. Writing on 'paper' began in Egypt with the papyrus; Europe duplicated it, modernized it, and manufactured the Printing Press. I don't know where the first Wheel was hacked together, but Europe continued to advance it until they got the first Automobile. The Asians were the first astronomers, but Americans got to the moon first. Now, this is the Age of Technology, and to get ahead in it, any competing nation has to develop its own technology. Bros, ask yourself, what has Naija developed?
-
Zilch.
-
Question #2: where are the cutting edge progress in various industries being made today? Answer: In universities and research institutes. Oya bros, ask yourself again: what are our universities and institutes doing? That one na Jamb question.
-
Our products in Naija are sub-standard, that's the simple truth. And you cant force buyers to shun the better-made foreign goods and patronise made-in-Naija stuff. The only way to turn the trend is to produce products that can compete quality-wise; and the best place to do this is in our universities and polytechnics. Thats where the BRAINS and BEST MINDS are, and thats the best place to start the change. Thats how Japan, China, and India did it. They got their best minds to duplicate the technology of the West, then their government subsidized it (so the price can compete), and then imposed import duties on the foreign equivalents. Now, they exporting to the West.
-
Until our lecturers dump their century-old and out-dated notes, and work with the FG and the Education sector to come up with schemes that will produce REAL engineers and technologists - schemes that will make our industries to actually PRODUCE/MANUFACTURE something - only then can we move forward.

LiteratureRe: . by kay9(m): 3:58pm On Apr 14, 2012
Hey i forgot, throw in some action too - your dude can be the best 'bare-knuckle' fighter in his street, or he's the baddest dude with a 'koboko', you know, cos his dead uncle really thrashed his back-side real good back in the days. grin Just dont make the action the point of the whole comic.
LiteratureRe: . by kay9(m): 3:54pm On Apr 14, 2012
Thats the thing bro, 'action sequences' aren't what people look out for anymore. They want something that's got depth, something with a real story to tell - and also tells the story well - not just a dude that comes around, saves the day and everybody's happy.
I'd suggest something from the ghetto; say some street-smart kid trying to get that 'yeyo', y'know, and at same time trying to get his grades @ school. Then throw in an elder sister who's alwys breaking his groove - she loves him and wants the best for him, but somehow she's always messing up his game. You know, spice things up!
-
However it goes sha, just make sure you character is one the ordinary nigerian can connect with - he doesn't have to speak pidgin all the time, but he mustn't be 'ajebo' either. Above all, he must have a REAL story.
-
Luck!

LiteratureRe: . by kay9(m): 9:34am On Apr 13, 2012
I dunno, bro. I guess its worth a try, if you're up to the financial wherewithal it requires. A piece of advice though: don't do a ''super-hero'' comic; that line's been SERIOUSLY over-used. And besides, grin Nigerians don't believe in super-heroes.

If you suspect you have an attitude problem, chances are you do. And if you dont, it doesnt hurt to be a lil nicer to people, does it? smiley

It does say some good about you that you're bothered, though.
Nairaland GeneralRe: 991 by kay9(m): 4:06pm On Apr 11, 2012
Abeg jor, mak i hear word! Wtf is it with all these ''we are trained not to talk to strangers'' bull? I suppose y'all plan to marry your brothers and cousins.

Mtscheww, noyn-sense. Mr. OP says the lil she-monkey took the time to look him up good-n-proper before strutting off - of course he may be exaggerating, but thats the story we're analyzing. Now pardon me folks, but that dont look to me like the actions of someone ''fearing for her life''; in fact it sounds more like someone who's choked full of herself, like a friggin' peacock, and consequently cant help strutting around (pardon the repetition), patronisingly looking down on lesser folk...in other words, our dear OP. grin
