Cesc has many qualities but he is not a multi-positional player.
Lampard/Gerrard can be shoved here n there when the going gets tough, i doubt Cesc can play as a winger or a striker or a defender.
So one of Gerrard or Lampard might get into the team before Cesc.
How multi-positional is Platini,Maradona,Scholes, et al undecided How effective has your multi-dimensional Lampard be in the diamond cheesy And do you really mean as multi-positional as Cesc playing central back cos here we are talking about the creativity of a player and you are flirting with his inability to do doggy style in bed.
Plus Spain has enough players with panache and flair than to employ jack of trades like Gerrard and Lampard abeg.A player who is extremely good at what he does best is it for me anyday, not indisciplined positional whores like Gerrard.

Gerrard and Lampard will walk into that squad.
With the extra qualities and the amount of ammo in their arsenal, they will edge out Alonso, Fabregas and Senna.
Gerrard woulda been preferred to Cesc in the absence of David Villa in Euro 2008. . . .True or False?
I am putting you in for the next show in Apollo, cos there is a reason a certain Liverpool team has been rudderless since the departure of Alonso inspite of the fact that Gerrard is still there.

I disagree on that - we don't need a marquee signing right now - we need a consistent performer who can bring a a workman attitude and make a valued contribution. With marquee players like Cesc and Arshavin, and emerging marquee players like Vermaelen and Song in the side, we don't need to get too many big wigs in the squad
Your position on the player we need right now fits my defination of marquee so maybe it's all semantics.I do not fully grasp your postulation on too many big wigs though.I say get me an attacker that can get the job done straight away, how many green horns can do that without the complications of adapting and what's to say Eduardo,Vela and Bendtner wouldn't have HIT it within that period of adaptation ? undecided

A striker who is good in the air and able to hold up play and bring others in is what we need - to score more goals from the crosses Sagna keeps pumping in, and to bring Fab4 and Diaby into scoring positions as they arrive from midfield.
Yeah i agree, unless of course Wenger is pulling a rabbit out of the hat again,i do not know of many cheap and equally good attackers that are off the radar right now.But then, thank God it is not my job wink

The team is doing well enough and high on confidence so we don't need to be revitalised. We just need someone who can come in and fill the gap upfront to a reasonable extent.
Of course we are doing well now,the next step is maintaining the momentum.Knowing our set of plastic legged players,i still feel we need to bolster the team with quality signing in the attack and defence.Silvestre is not just it.

PS:Here is what Wenger has to say aout the acquisition of an attacker in the coming transfer window:
"It's not completely rational, football. The superficial rationality is not the real one sometimes, because it’s true that we have problems with our strikers. Even I say that. Everybody tells me to buy strikers, but when I look at the league, nobody has scored more goals than us. We have players who move the ball well and everybody gets in dangerous positions. And that’s why with the confidence high, everyone can score goals. But we are still in the market.”
Get us that attacker that can get the job done Wenger, goals don't get too much do they? cheesy

Even if we no buy, that team is getting set not for only PL domination but UCL too. I'm already looking beyond this season to that 5 year period of European domination that Prophet Arsene already foresaw.
Too early . . . believe me we can do with a marque(a la Arshavin this january) kinda player this winter. The vigour and revitalization it will bring to the squad will be immeasurable, bearing in mind,Eduardo and Vela are not doing the job now,and Bendtner before his injury wasn't even playing centrally.

Love the way we are going about our duty without much fuss nowadays. How many goals scored now since Persie's injury? The key has been a midfield that has risen to the occasion when needed most. And Song. . what a way to say goodbye to the fans how i wish Cameroon can get knocked out after the first game  tongue

That said, read this and i am wondering if Walcott will ever string 4-5 consecutive matches together this season:
"Cesc is 10 days. It can be 12. Let's say the only question mark we have is does he make Everton or not. Walcott has a ripped muscle [in his side] and is about the same, 10 to 12 days.
When did he cop this injury again  undecided I hope this young man will be lucky enough to fulfill his potentials the same way consistent involvement in games is helping Diaby actualize his now.

Fellow gooners,i am thinking of something and your consent is needed, can we talk on which is the best goal this year 09?

Still gunnin' 'em  cool

Please where did the journos get this "Cesc is out for 3 weeks" news from when the latest news on our site reads Wenger is also waiting for news of Cesc Fabregas' fitness after he hobbled off with a hamstring problem against Aston Villa on Sunday.  undecided

That said we are off to Fratton Park tommorow and anything but 3 points is not good enough. With Cesc and Denilson definately out,and Song not expected to leave till after the FA CUP match,i will expect Ramsey to come in fill the void as he did last season. The attack should take the shape it took against Villa and with a bench that has Vela,Walcott, and Rosicky,i doubt we have nothing to fear.

This is hoping/praying  we end the year on a high.Any form of 3 points is OK for me.

Happy new year in advance to y'all. wink

Nothing tangible to show.
This just goes to show JM was truly special.

Same squad, increased pay, yet we keep faltering.
It will be a shame if KG boys overtake us.

Can we truly call our squad world class?
How can we falter against Wigan, B'ham, Everton and those other minnows?
In as much as i know you are within your right as a fan to vent your spleen when your team is not performing,i do not think objectivity should be thrown to teh dogs. The reality now is that, there are barely minnows in EPL,and indeed world soccer.Sit down and try figuring how many matches the so called Top 4 teams have lost so far this season and to what teams and you will be surprised.

That said . . . Birmingham were so compact and disciplined today in their defending ONLY a team with creativity would have beaten them. And then Chelsea didn't take their chances when they had it.

I hate to sound like a broken record but this may just be the most open EPL title in recent times.

Stop this diabolical comparison of players. You need to slow your roll on this Walcott issue. With all the "noise" about Diaby today,i can authoritatively say Song was more of the creative force in the middle, inspite of playing a deeper role.

Almunia and Song has a great game and Edu seems to still have it in him if he can stay off injury and get games under his belt.

Diaby was tidy and less clumsy today, putting in his shift and his height did indeed come in handy.

Good victory against Brown's team.i hope he shut his mouth and get sacked soon ;DThe race for the title and the UCL spots is getting hotter.Next stop,we have O'Neil's lads at the groove.Right time to show them who the man is.

Scrappy game for most part with no cutting egde, and unfortunately we are allowing Hull players to get on our nerves, something that has always been a disadvantage to our present set of players.

Good goal by Denilson and i hope the Hull team will come at us now thus giving Dudu and Arshavin space to wreck havoc.

I see a red card in this game and Hunt and/or  Barmby seem like the possible canditate(s).

I will like to Walcott come in at one point to add width too.

I honestly cannot see any talent/potential in walcott,  I was telling my mates a few yrs ago that lennon was going to blow up and there it is
Then there is a problem. The same Walcott that Capello included in his team ahead of his peers?

that's because Lennon had potential that is clearly lacking in walcott's case plus the desire and hunger to improve his game.
But Walcott use to play ahead of Lennon in the 3 Lions at a time.I think it's knee jerk to crucify him cos he his off form.

Now i think i understand why your team dropped it's first 2 points at SB and got booed. grin tongue

I am not a fan of pacy players(Manga Muhammed et al grin) but i am sure Walcott is under the right tutelage. You have to be in the shoe of this poster child to understand the undue pressure Capello's WC list and some other factors too boring too elucidate can cause.

On what basis are we comparing Eboue and Walcott? undecided  Flamini played at LB for most part of 2006 and thus can be compared to Cashley and Clichy?

Apparently,Eboue is no winger nor midfielder and will never be.It is no rocket science why his best games for us were at the RB.

That said, but for the piling injury list,i do not think Walcott would have been starting games. He's been put into the thick of things AND trying too hard too impress cos of the forthcoming WC.I will rather he's eased in but then how many fit players do we have now? undecided
