I think all the groups look tough bar Group D.

African football is no more for small boys. The gap of quality between teams has narrowed significantly from the 90s.
A group that has Tunisia,Gabon and Cameroon is no child's play mate.

I do not like the fact that some teams that faced each other during qualifiers are having a go at each other again in the tourney proper i.e Gabon vs Cameroon and Moz vs Nigeria.

Our chances? The only predictable thing about Nigeria is their unpredictability. We are as good as we are on the day,so fingers crossed.

 That reeks of double standard,

It is ok to get a controversial decision go against the Georgian national team but not the Irish team  undecided

Georgia were never going to the world cup,  they might as well be saved the trouble of playing the qualifiers
I tire o.If the teams are that useless why cheat against them? undecided And to say Georgia were leading in Ireland before that controversial penalty that Keane converted.

So 'cos they are a minnow team, they SHOULD be cheated?

U call it nonsensical clairvoyance. . . . . .I call it brilliant hindsight.
There's a reason GAYnners are spastic and you are just building a case to support the claim.
Your Ireland coulda won the penalty and Georgia will never qualify for the world cup posts are the reasons i think you are a case study for the disadvantages of cheap drugs consumption.

The circumstances surrounding this game was different to the football week in week out y'all are ranting about.
If Henry had done this to score France's 5th goal on the night, no one would bat an eyelid cos it wouldn't have changed the outcome.
And i think this where i have a TOTALLY different disposition to cheating. While you think cheating should be allowed against some teams and at some stage/time in football,i say "SHOOT" the cheats irrespective of who they do it against and when they do it.

Hand of God was different. Referee couldn't have seen that in real time.
Henry did not handle it once. . . . .It was TWICE and he was all alone. . . . . .No goalie or opposing player was contesting the ball.
There's no way the match officials would lie that they didn't see the incident.  UEFA just wanted France to qualify ahead of ROI.
Until you provide an empirical proof,i will take this an one of those jokes you crack when you want to play the devil's advocate.

This is the UK. The opinion of the common man on the streets counts more than the people in power.
UEFA are lucky this didn't happen against England. Then you woulda known the power of the media/internet.
How did Ronaldo lose his best young player award to Podolski? How did Liverpool play in the UCL despite finishing 5th on the EPL?
Stop making it seems as if England has never been at the receiving end of wrong calls and have UEFA at the jugular abeg.So why didn't they get a replay with all these assumed power when Maradon handed them defeat?

This is Zkot!!!

Does it matter at what stage a player/teams benefits from cheating?

Ireland was leading in Paris FFS and were bang on to win via penalties cos of Shay Given's brilliance.
Conjectures!Unpardonable and nonsensical clairvoyance.I expect more logical statement from you mate.

It's a terrible blow for them that they didn't qualify because of a spastic referee/line assistants plus a cheating Thierry Henry.
Yeah the same cheating Henry stopped Ireland from burying their chances. These stuffs happens in footall week in week out. . .a wrong free-kick call that leads to a goal. . .a karate kick that keeps an opponent's best player out of action for 3 weeks. . .etc  grin

KAYYYYYYY angry angry angry

This isnt about Henry totally. Im not just comfortable the deed came from him and oh yeah, his rants after the game about the incident is stupid. He shld have kept quiet or say somethin more sensible.

Truly, this happens everytime and it could have been Rooney or Berbatov.

My problem is FIFA and Platini
they were the same set up that banned Eduardo for cheating and now they saw the outcome of a game changed by a moronic REF they appointed; and oh yeah they are not talking about it.

why?

Henry, Ruud, Ronaldo can try to cheat of course but why do we have FIFA?
isnt it crazy if Players can attempt to cheat and not get caught

Its on CNN now as im typin
Sarkozy and Henry have called for a reply and FIFA is saying NO
why? they said cos the decision of the REF cannot be changed shocked shocked shocked
is that sensible?

now the hullabaloo is on Henry sponsorship deals; some people are clamouring for his deals to be cancelled although Gillette has come to say they are standing by him

i swear, if FIFA are not shameless, they shld do something about this

FIFA shld be taken to court grin grin
Now your stand is less ambiguos but pray tell Toks, don't you think FIFA will be creating a behemoth if the heed is taken to the call for replay?
Russia is asking for one now as we speak, even Egypt is threatening to withdraw from Int'l football based on the fact they just love to be heard.Heck we will have go back to get a replay for Ire vs Georgia cos the referee was wrong in giving Ireland a penalty. . .
Please read this article,i think it captures things i would have said more vividly and accurately. wink

And as per Henry and Sarkozy, let em just shut up already.Replay ko,pre-intimacy ni.

duduspace:
Good job v3nom.

I have no fear at all about this match, cos the major threat who could give us problems (Kenwyne Jones) is out of this one, our defence have no problems playing against a striker better known for movement and pace like Bent but a physical player like Jones is a totally different proposition however (yu can ask Vidic and VDS). Bent gets all the press due to his goals but doesn't have much impact as a lone striker. The other players who could be problematic in MF are Malbranque(of the old enemy spurs), Richardson and Andy Reid of Ireland(who I respect so much).

I think we will line up this way depending on injuries:

Almunia

Sagna - Gallas - TV5 - Traore

Cesc - Song - Ramsey/Merida

Rosicky/Eboue - Eduardo - Arshavin/Vela

Sunderland will see Traore as the weak link in our defence and try to exploit that route while packing the MF, the team might take some time to settle with the new players but if it remains goaless up to the 20th minute, then we will take this one easy.
2-0
I agree with you as per Andy Reid and Malbranque, these two are decent players that can run at defenders and give cause for worries. The more reason i will want Song to be extremely careful as he's one yellow card short of suspension.I am sure at one point though,we will see the introduction of Denilson. We are spoilt for choices in the attack as your formation cum player arrangement doesn't even take into consideration that Walcott is back, and not forgeting the mesmerizing Nasri.

Also i think Sagna should be rested after playing 120mins mid-week but then, fingers crossed.

I see Sunderland putting up a fight but a 1-3 victory wouldn't hurt. cool

No one had said what Henry did is commendable(it is condemnable),but the way you lots make it seem as if it is an unprecedented outta this world show of shame is ludicrous. The media frenzy is riduculous.

This is an Irish man's (Robbie Keane) take on it

'We’ve even had English managers being interviewed about it. As if they are bothered.

Do you think they were lying awake the other night worrying about Ireland? It’s nonsense. If it was England do you think I would be worried? I wouldn’t be.'
Keane pointed out that controversial decisions also went Ireland's way in the qualifying campaign, not least a harsh penalty award against Georgia which helped them to claim a 2-1 qualifying win in February.

'There was one match against Georgia where Ireland got a penalty and it was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen which changed the whole course of the game.

'I don't remember the FAI after the game saying we should give them a replay.'

'Would I call Henry a cheat? No, I don’t think so. Did he bend the rules a little bit? Yes, but we see cheating going on all the time in games. It could be hand-ball or it could be diving. The game’s full of it. Of course it should be stopped but it’s FIFA who have to do it.

'What can you or I do about it? Drop them an email? I’ve been amazed at the commotion over the last few days. They’re going on about Henry’s hand-ball – and of course he handled it – but I’d focus on why they didn’t clear it.'
I rest ma case make i steal your line grin

After losing to Liverpool few weeks back, Manchester United have also lost to Chelsea and the two defeats have shown Alex Ferguson’s team are not good enough to defend the Premiership title.Sir Alex Ferguson should have almost full squad available for selection with Jonny Evans, Nemanja Vidic and Ji-Sung Park having returned into action playing for their respective national teams after recovering from injuries and they are now all ready to shine at club level. Considering Manchester have already booked their place in the Champions League knockout stages, Fergie is set to field his best possible line-up against Everton, without worrying about the Besiktas game in midweek. They will be without Hargreavesdokitor asst, Ferdinand and Welbeck.

Nobody could expect this season would be such a difficult one for the side that really impressed during the last Premiership campaign. However, numerous injuries combined with the busy schedule took the wind out of their sails and as a result, the Toffees are struggling to return to the top half of the table. The 2:1 win over West Ham was definitely a big boost for players’ spirits but have failed to score in four of the last six games at Old Trafford.
David Moyes is still without long-term casualties Mikel Arteta, James Vaughan, Victor Anichebe and Phil Jagielka, while Phil Neville, Steven Pienaar and Leon Osman face a race with time in an attempt to be fit for this clash. Diniyar Bilyaletdinov, however, is suspended following a red card he picked up against Aston Villa. Nonetheless, if anyone is used to picking from a depleted squad it’s David Moyes, and they will put up a good fight.
Muki which kain analysis be this?At this stage of last season,Chelsea were leading the scummies with 8 points so those 2-losses is no pointer at all.
In fact,no be your fault sef,why didn't any scummie create the thread so we can a scummie-biased analysis?

Are we still on this issue of the "unprecedented" tongue crime commited by Henry?Jeezz

I'd like us all to take a look/watch this youtube link of a match between Ireland and Georgia.

[flash=435,344]http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/Jf9fx4ipF4Q[/flash]  I'll appreciate if someone can embed it please.

Match report:

A long ball found its way to Robbie Keane who seemed to control the ball with his hand only for the referee to let play continue. The ball was then cleared but only as far as Kevin Doyle as it deflected off the Waterford man and into the path of Ucha Lobjanidze. The referee then gave a shrill blast of his whistle for what appeared to be an offside by Keane.

Instead to everyones surprise, Hyytia pointed to the penalty spot and deemed Lobjanidze to have handled the ball. Replays showed that Keane had handled the ball in the lead-up to this decision and that Keane was also offside as play continued.

Now y'all can see why Henry's case is unprecedented indeed and while he's solely responsible for bringing the game into disrepute.

Like i posted earlier, what Henry did is awful and shameful but how many of us will be vociferously up in arms as we are now if the situation favours us?I can't remember the Nigerians amongst crucifying Yaks and the ref for allowing Super Eagle's secong goal against the Harambee stars in Nairobi.Do i smell hypocrisy?

Enough said.

HNIC(and other advocate for video technology),as a way of curbing cheating on the footall pitch,i think this excerpt from a Martin Samuel's article is an eye opener.
A predictable call for the use of video technology has resulted, but that is not the answer, either. The conundrum with video interruptions is how to restart fairly from open play.Take that imaginary game between Manchester United and Bolton Wanderers again. United go down the right flank, Wayne Rooney crosses, Dimitar Berbatov takes a tumble in the area and the ball flies listacross goal to Ryan Giggs on the left.
The referee blows for a penalty, marches off to check the evidence and, after several viewings and a delay of two minutes, decides that, ha ha, well, stone me, Berbatov looks to have tripped over his own feet. So, not a penalty at all then.
Now, where were we? I was over here, says Giggs, and I was about to cut the ball back to Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher who were queuing up on the edge of the area to bury it because Bolton’s defence was stretched to breaking point. Then you blew up for a penalty that we didn’t ask for and now haven’t got.
Sorry about that, says the ref, but we have no way of replicating a scoring situation. Tell you what, I’ll give the ball to their keeper and he can punt it 90 yards downfield to Edwin van der Sar, Bolton can put 11 men behind the ball and you can start again.
You can read more here(inclusive of Graham Poll's solution to the whole quagmire)http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1229394/MARTIN-SAMUEL-Its-simple-let-s-force-honesty-game.html
