I thank God I lived in the north at some points in my life and I am bold to say that I am sometimes ashamed of majority of politicians, public and elected officers, civil servant the society and the governors in most states down south with the exception of Lagos, and Rivers. This people though not generating much IGR are doing a lot in terms of infra structure . education and economic development of their areas. It may not look much but believe me the way things are going the so-called and touted educational ( western) development in the south will be overtaken by the North if it has not. Yes there there is banditry and onslaught of ISWAP and other terror groups, still most states in the North are improving their GDP and infrastructures than the south. There are more quarter baked literates and educated youths being churned out in numbers than we have inb the North. The State Govts ( not federal) are issuing bursaries and scholarships to their indigenes, how many of such is going onm in the south. the quality and distribution of some infrastructural projects are disappointing! You guys ( southerners) should just shut up appreciate what you are seeing rather than scoff. it starts from somewhere. Leave them and let them celebrate their little ( in your eyes) successes.

They are intolerant blood thirsty wicked devilish and cold as a serpent . Their religion encourages and relish in violence , the level of Ibadah is judged by how much violent act you can perform and justifies, it it even teaches and prescribe different levels of deceit that exist and how it can be applied in their everyday life. Peace only exists when they are in large numbers and are able to effortlessly inflict their banal fiendishness and pure evil. When confronted plainly with their evil deeds, they start justifying themselves by referring to what other religion or sect done some decades or ages back when even their grandfather was not conceived.. Lies truth, plain, booing the president while making a speech irrespective of it be a lie or whatsover is wrong. It is a complete lack of responsibililty and decorum. Is it not better to wait and refuse to applaud him?

We have lost our sense of decency. We don't seem to differentiate between personal and official issues. That was a Budget Presentation for God sake and not a political campaign! Buhari is different from the presidency, although he occupies the position presently, however, Presidency is beyond the person. I as a Nigerian am really disappointed and ashamed of that despicable action of the Legislatures. Yinsh.

And For any educated not literate individual not to se anything wrong in that, then we have lost it in this country. A lot of us need to be re schooled in etiquette, courtesy, regards and respect.

Someone did similar thing to Obama and he has to resign or removed or rebuke I can't remember what punishment he received even from members of his race, religion and party. He eventually tendered an apology to the president and the presidency

It is unfortunate that all this is happening. Everyone has the right to religion thoughts belief and practices without hindrance. From what I am seeing, it starting from somewhere that seem innocuous now, in the next 20 years thereabout, we are defintely going to have a divided society. And I hope those propagating the divisive postures will be recompensated with the monstrous divisions they are creating in the name of religion. I see all these as just some clique being futuristic and setting the foundation for maintaining their relevance and economy.
I am just appalled at the division they are planting into the hearts of their children and most importantly, robbing ( without them knowing it)their children of their innocence in the name of religion.

Every military personnel have his/ her run out date. After which you can apply for discharge. Application may be rejected though on service exigencies, owing the military( after being released for any kind of training, depending on the duration of tge course tgere is a minimum time you must remain in service on course compltion)
Theres a pending diciplinary issue.
One may be discharged dishonorably, due to serious medical physical and psychological incapacitation or having provable political religous ambition( not serious reason though) or traditional call

Career / Re: The Nigerian Army Salary Structure: How Much Is A Nigerian Soldier Paid? by KDULAR: 7:21am On Mar 05, 2016
That is the take home. There's no extra allowance all is embedded in the take home\, except professional allowances given to those in medical corps . Also I note that the take home for majors is not that much but about 40k or more lesser. For Bigger boys (generals), the take home is in quantum leap from one rank to the other. I think the take home of the lower ranks especiallly from seargent and above is abysmal low. A seargent is supposed to be in charge of about 30 lives.
Politics / Re: Hakeem Salami, A Soldier Killed By Boko Haram (Pictured) by KDULAR: 8:51am On Dec 28, 2015
Let me quote you here, "(of course because it is a rag tag army). Most battalion commanders are in command posts well away from the forward operating positions, they retreat as their troops do if the need arises" My emphasis here on the "Most and not all". Secondly, I ask, couldn't the Battallion commander at times leave his HQ to do some assessment of the forward operation positions and at such times is he no vulnerable ?
If you are serving military personnel or know so much about the Nigerian military and you've been in forward operations as you projecting yourself and what could come out of you is to call your army "rag tag" then I will not be surprised at your uncouth, ill tempered, crassness and banality of your language. people like you only thrive in gutters and pigsty. Must you call names before you make your point ? This attitude is probably what is responsible for your frustration. If you know anything educate rather than rain insults.

Secondly if you'd know so much and you ve heard from those who have been in the military for decades, then you should realize that in the Nigeria Army presently, there are many formations that are not having the requisite number of officers and indeed soldiers. You may be right with the issue of generals I don't know but you cannot go making sweeping allegations of promotions and enlistments are based on nepotism. And if there is, how wide spread is it ?

The Army maybe ill equipped but I wouldn't call it rag tag, it is organized Im not in the army. The so called senior officers who have served for decades and opened up to you sweepingly berating the Army like you said ask them again what their contribution was towards changing what they complained about ? Their complain is a result of accumulation of their ineptitude and or complacency over the years.

You may be right in some aspects but you are not totally correct. You can't go on insulting people because you think you know something they don't know, you don't know them and they don't know you so why blow up. Besides it is honorable to thread that path except you are not one. From your tone your are an Army man Officer I guess and that is not you are supposed to be talking to people you have been well trained, except you are in a rag tag military or a mammy market ( mini market) officer.

Again, you are talking nonsense. If you are a trained military person you have wasted your training period! Unless of course you are in present day Nigerian military! That will make sense from your posts!

A battalion commander in Nigerian army is within the killing zone of an average sniper (of course because it is a rag tag army).

Most battalion commanders are in command posts well away from the forward operating positions, they retreat as their troops do if the need arises. A Battalion wall of operation surrounds the commander at all times and he only vertures out when his troops have secured certain areas and the field! His fighting troops are commanded by squad leaders, platoon leaders, company commanders, supported by staff officers and supply - most threats are handled on the basis of the size of the enemy.

The battalion commander may have engaged enemies as a platoon or company commander in his early days and as such is not usually in the frontline at a senior rank!

Not all Military officers have troops under their command and the size of formations depends on roles and missions but the Nigerian army is a military onto itself and packed with excessive number of officers and generals who were recruited based on corruption and nepotism.

Any sensible Nigerian military personnel will tell you that, and it has been told to me by people who are far more qualified and senior to you in the military and have served for decades!

If you don't know what you are talking about please do us all a favour and SHUT UP!

It is rather unfortunate of you to resort to name calling just to make point. I need not join issues with you, as much as I acknowledge that you may be right in some aspects of your write-up, you need to see some facts about what I wrote too rather than the usual university common room, beer parlour or puerile rant of " you don't a thing about what you are talking about" angry angry And for your info it is "grappled with" not "grabbled with".
If I'm wrong saying:
a. Not all generals colonels, lieutenant colonels, major are supposed to have your stated number of personnel under them
b. Staff appointments depending on the job does not require up to half as many personnel as operational appointments
c. Even in operational appointments, for example, you don't have the same number of personnel deployment in an engineering battalion and an infantry battalion.
d. A battalion commander is within the killing zone of an average sniper.
You may tell if what I said above are wrong but if they are not then you are wrong to have started with your statement. Note that saying your statement is puerile is not name calling. Be courteous if your are really educated but you may choose not too. Its a thing one is born and raised with and decide to imbibe.
j1mmy:

You don't know a thing about what you are talking about, you must be naive!

The practice of promoting Nigerian military officers for the sake of course mates "time don reach" have been one of the things the military has grabbled with for a long time, infact it was one of the policies Vatsa was working on prior to his death! The military has always said there are just too many officers and generals for the available staff and command positions in Nigerian's small military. My understanding is that Buhari has been made aware of it and is discussing it!

You cannot just promote people to the next rank in the military simply on the basis of years in current rank and just because they are NDA regulars!

I know Brigadiers and Maj Generals who are in positions meant for colonels...yeye names and titles just to man a desk while waiting for a standard field assignment or normal staff position to open.

The military is now fed up with creating positions just to fill promoted officers. The boko Haram issue has now revealed how very senior officers are marching into battle with sqauds and platoon of men meant for very junior officers.

For a Lt colonel to die in battle you would almost have to massacred his 700 men first or use a road side bomb on his convoy!

Politics / Re: Hakeem Salami, A Soldier Killed By Boko Haram (Pictured) by KDULAR: 6:34pm On Dec 27, 2015
your statements and figures are inaccurate is wrong, not all generals even in the advanced countries have your quoted number of soldiers or field appointments. Not all officers at their corresponding ranks at any point in time are commands brigades ships, deployed to battalions, squadrons flights companies, groups, and operations units. Some at such times will be at the head quarters or non operational formations which does not require the numbers of personnel you allude to. Also the number of men deployed in any formation is dependent on the type of operations, you cannot have the same personnel deployment in an engineering and as in infantry unit. . Furthermore, the senior officers you so much unfruitful tried to rubbish had one time or the order in their lives must have been involved in one ops or the other in their lives.
From Major , Squadron leader or Lieutenant Commander as the case may be are the think tank and policy makers of all armed forces and are not necessarily promoted and deployed based on operations or command openings. This fact is more evident as officers from the rank of captain equivalent goes for Command and Staff training ( this is the norm in all armed forces) training for which is to prep them for staff duties amongst others. Thus for you to talk half informed is really disturbing and it would be unfortunate if you are informed but still spewed out the inaccuracies.
You may not be far from the fact that more in terms of due regard should be given to officers and men by the system also more enlistment drafting and commissioning is needed in the Armed Forces. Still, it is a fact that safe for generals, any officer of lower ranks are within the killing range of an adversary sniper.
May the fallen senior officer rest in peace. He was indeed a gentle man officer and a good instructor at the Command and Staff College.
j1mmy:

People like you and your docile african mindset are the reasons places like that will not progress. Even when you are confronted with stark reality you mentality will never allow you to think rationally.

The NDA in Kaduna produces between 87-178 officers every single year for the last few decades - most are a scam for money and children of politicians and general! A few are for other African countries.

The Nigerian military is about 167,000 strong
There should be about 70 soldiers for even Lt or 2nd Lt
There should be about 160 soldiers for every Captain
There should be about 220 soldiers for every Major
There should be about 800 soldiers for every Lt Colonel or colonel
There should be about 1400 soldiers for every Brig or Maj general

Nigeria has about 87 Maj general, AVM and Rear Admiral
About 122 Brig Gen, Commodore and Air commodore
about 400 Colonels, Group Capt and Navy Capt.

The NDA regular combatants are promoted by course mates not by merit and appointment availability.
If you promote 87 colonels to Brig general you have no jobs for them but to create yeye positions and slots.

Majors and and Lt Colonels in Nigerian military end up commanding a small number of troops and can be seen manning checkpoints and directly going into battle.

Go and check how many Nigerian senior officers are retired without ever doing anything other than desk jobs and harasing civilians.
Go and check what percentage of Nigeria's budget goes for paying pensions to officers Nigerian military never needed in the first place!

Marriage is not about sex, when some people heard marriage, the only thing that comes to their puerile mind is sex. To those who need some knowledge get to understand that chosing a wife to marry is not about procreation alone especially when you are of a social political status, and marriage is indeed one of the ways of consolidating cooperation between families, clan, kingdoms. The Emir has said all that needs to be said and whoever is still cynical or llack understanding after reading this must definitely either low in intelligence or simply mischievous.

Infact one of the things that initially put sanity to that Bus_ stop was the Lagbus Bustop which was commissioned about 6 years ago before which, it was chaos in that axis. After the initial sanity tht was brought in, political blackmail on the part of the opposition in Lagos resulted in the less enforcement of some laudable projects and activities of Fashola led government in Lagos, thus the return of Okada on Highways and the resurgent of the chaos seen all over now. I now really ask, do we deserve good sane clean government in this country ?

It was in my deliberate extra year I had a field trip course carry over course, with just only one more course to write in the semester I had enough time on my hands. Due the extra responsibilities of having to compile reports of findings in the trips which each group leaders had to do, I offered to be the leader of my group , however, individual group members will have to prepare their own reports of both group and personal projects though. The course Lecturer instructed us to submit our reports only on a particular Wednesday by or before 1200pm, The same day I was to travel to Lag for very important issue.

I'd already finished my report 5 days before and had even given some of my classmates copy to use as template for theirs, on this said day I got to the dept to submit my report around 1030am am and the lecturer was not there, I waited till 1250pm, still there was no response from within her office to the knocks on the door either by me or any student that came looking for her( Office is situated in a Lab). Like I said I had to go to Lag same day and it was getting late. So I slipped the report under her door into the office with a note telling her what happened and my dire need to travel same day.

I returned to school on Thursday and went to see her on Friday and behold she told me she will never mark my report that I have to put in my A++ effort to pass the exams,( the reports carries a maximum 40 mark of the whole course and passmark in my Faculty was and is still 50) because I will need to score 50 in the exams out of 60 to pass the course ! I begged her like begging God reminding her of my extra year status, cold and hackeously ( UNIBEN slang in the early - mid 90s), she refused knowing that there's no waiver of courses or upgrading to pass level in the Faculty.

I failed the course, had to spend another extra year and really find it difficult to forgive the woman. Though she could not look me directly in the eye afterwards but its all good though.

When you talk to most military personnel those who have spent more than 30 years on the job will tell you that talk of equipment and training, that era 79-85 was the best the military have ever had. There were training courses allover, though pay wasn't much but welfare was good, morale was up high and discipline was near perfect. In fact there were less undue favoritism and nepotism. However, the story and fortune changed from 85 till date. It is not in most cases about how much you have but in military how much you can maintain and utilize what you have, the so called way and manner that has been bastardized now when inadeqo people and tremendous positive results are expected.

In spite of the alleged non procurement of arm ( which I believe is a lie,) the country was safe and hostiles were kept at bay.

The difference between some traditional ruler and others is that they understand what;s up and the good interest of their domain is most important than any poitics. Besides he was a highly ranked police officer who was therefore knows what is happening, the calibre, antecedents, integrity and interest of those being paraded by the other party (pdp) in his domain. That these are not the people that will serve the interest of his people and his domain and infact they are his subjects. It is therefore instructive to this party in the state to start parading people that confidence can be repose into. Let all those who think they have the population business and landed property and the rest in Lagos think whatever, they don't really count as they think they do.

And for those thinking they are taking the King to the cleaners judging by what they wrote, really, your rantings here is nothing but fart it counts nothing and would not stop the palace and him from exercising their God given authority over his domain and all you think you have as long as they are still located in his domain, pdp o, apc, apga, upn o undp. These government will go and come but the kingship outlives them all
A traditional ruler who cannot face his subjects and do or say what he ought to do and say is not worth that seat. Most people being hungry and lazy lick the boot of the government at the State Capital and mostly Abuja irrespective of which party occupies the seat

Guess you have a different experience from what I observe , having worked with them and observed closely, the confidence is in most cases due to Regular Commissioned officers in the higher ranks tend to promote and invest in those of similar commissioning thereby giving the juniors ranked officers an expression of confidence. Except in extreme brilliance and in some corp in all the military will you see a non- Regular commissioned officer be recognized, appointed, inputs/effort commensurately rewarded and encouragement given equally. Being less humane could and indeed is due to the generalize assumptions by other ranks that non- RcC officers are less combatant thus will want to cross boundaries which they knowing the difference in your regard will without blinking clear your doubt.

Businesstools: I disagree. I belong to the other rank, so I don't know a thing about Officer Training (Regular or DSS), but from experience, the Regular Officers have more confidence and are more combatant than their DSS counterparts. They are also more humane towards the other ranks.
