My mum MAJOR reason considering her for marriage was due to our low source of income. The responsibility outweighs the income. These children automatically become hers the moment she adopt them. Her own biological children are the ones supporting the day to day running of the house which obviously has taken a toll on us and the family. My mum is 61 years old and she's really scared and bothered of the future of these children. The girl has a dream to futher her education and own a big fashion outlet as a seamstress. Her dreams seems difficult considering the family she was unfortunate to found herself. My mum would only make a U-turn to the marriage proposals if this girl dream can be achieved and actualise now that she's still alive. She's scared what would become of them if she's gone. She felt giving her out in marriage would help to an extent lessen the burden and probably secure her future and also support her little ones

No one has sent me money
Her apprenticeship cost was 50k, excluding other items like drinks and whataview. We've paid 20k and brought drinks

It was a 2 and half year training and she has a year and half left.

She can sew and her boss asked us to get her a machine, even if it's manual.
Fine. Pm me with ur acc details.

I ll suggest u check declutter pages for sewing machines as i have gotten x2, (used but very good) in the past 4 months for 40k. Electric machines to be precise.

She's to pay #30,000 balance for the apprenticeship while butterfly sewing machine manual is #78,000

Thanks!
Thank u. Can you confirm if anyone has sent u money?
How much is the cost of the apprenticeship in full if the outstanding bal is 30k.
Whats the duration of her apprenticeship and how long does she hv left?
How can you guarantee us that after the Financial support, ur mum would allow her to focus on earning Financial independence without forcing marriage on her?

I will pay the bal for the apprenticeship and will also contribute towards the cost of the sewing maching.

Paulheyman:
Dear op and respondents
Based on the Japa syndrome, these are my dilemmas:
1) I got an offer of a postdoc in US for a 2yrs stay with possible offer of becoming a faculty member (I am not sure if I will be taken as a faculty member). The pay is $65k/annum

2) with the recent offer of a QTS visa by UK for qualified teachers. I am also very much interested based on variations in the number of years US (2yrs): UK (5yrs - so I heard)

Note: I want to get into the US or UK using (but not limited to) the academic root and possibly diversify later on

These are my challenges
1) I am a sickle cell patient. I hope I am not taking much risk based on my health? How's the health system in US compared to UK?
2) on skills: I officially left music production in 2014 to focus on my academics. So, on skills, how lucrative is music production in both countries?
3) Based on academic skills: I can perform most computer based simulation in chemistry/biology including DFT experiments, molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulation, and other computational chemistry/biology techniques with little or no difficulties
4) I would love to switch probably from class room teacher to a full time lecturer (if UK is found worthy). How possible and easy can it be?
5i) How lucrative is teaching job in the UK?
5ii) Do the country (UK) permit home lessons?
5iii) Can I combine class room teaching with other side hustle

*** My intention is to stay there for ten years and come back and invest but if I find their land fruitful, I will stay a little longer than expected

I need guidance please!
I cannot advise u on the US but i know that from a health perspective, the UK is better as Healthcare is free at the point of delivery. The US relies on private healthcare and as one with a pre existing health condition, it can become expensive in the long run via the US. However, i understand the US has advance treatment management for SS due to the higher % of blacks.

For the teaching route, its an amazing option because the skills are transferablr if u choose to relocate to the US/Canada/Australia or middle east aftet sometime
however i will say this, teachers Re VERY poorly paid in the UK. Very very poorly paid (except those in private schs whom work under high stress - their jobs is almost like that of bankers in 9ja). Most teachers i know have to have a working spouse and/or offer private tutorials depending on the area they live. I ll suggest u check on the salary of UK teachers to verify.

I am watching keenly to see the exact visa regulations on the teachers stuff when its fully published as i hope the visa will allow some leeway to take on 2nd jobs to supplement their main income.

I live in Sheffield and I can confidently say u don't live in UK. My new build house- semi terrace is 770/ month and that's on the high side. Average house rent is 600/month.
There's no way utility is up to 400 per month, what are u consuming.
U guys should relax. Una lie is becoming too annoying from both sides of the argument.
Yes sir, you R correct. Keep up the advise i lived in the North for the 1st decade of my UK stay and my rent was £550. I have since moved from the North almost a decade now and i still have friends there who's rent/mortgage has gone up by 70%. If i was to relocate to the same northern city i lived in, i will be paying £890pm. But again you are correct.

What has yorkshire got to offer?? Sheffield thats filled with Pakis ? Besides the Uni and the NHS which industries are there that can offer 20hr uni jobs for students? Jobs that have career transferable skills?? I have said what i said on my 1st post. All can pick what they choose, its a free world

Thortp:
A family going on a student visa may experience a very rough 1st year due to the fact that only one spouse works full time as the student can only do 20 hours.
2nd year will be okay when both spouse works full time. Even the worst is both couples earn £1,500 each after tax = £3k/month.
House rent PCM - £800 for 2bdrm apartment.
Groceries - £300 maximum.
Bills (electricity, water, gas) - £200
Internet - Home and mobile - £50
Transport - £200
Miscellaneous - £150
Balance = £1,300.
That means the couple can conveniently save £1,300 every month provided it's a low job o.

Save the £1,300 for 24 months (2years) = £31,000 that is 28million naira.
You can now take it to Nigeria and invest in something good for yourself. That's another income without working.
Now you get it
This is very false budgeting. I have lived in the UK for 2 decades.
Which city is charging £800 per month for rent?? 2bed rent is about £900 upwards depending on the city. The cities with cheaper rent are often cities with no jobs or villages.

I can tell you categorically that utilities - water/gas/electric for a 2bed is around £400 per month. Then there's council tax. As long as you have a non- student living in the flat/house, u will pay which is anywhere from £100 - £170pm depending on the borough.

This are core bills that MUST be paid before u move fmto feeding/tp to work/black tax (sending money back home), paying ur tuition, saving up IHS /course training for career advancement, personal savings.

What the thread poster said is a fact but 9ja will argue until they get here. This is why nigerians in the UK ignore the Japa crew because we can all see that they have been warned before they got on a plane but they refuse. Instead u want someone to accommodate u and ur family till u "find your feet". Forgetting that by "accomodating u, their own utilities bill goes up/feeding goes up, they run the risk of a neighbor reporting them for overcrowding etc.

He who has ears, let him hear

I should NOT have to beg Jumia to do the right thing. It is my legal right to request a replacement especially when they sold a faulty electronic, described as NEW with a 1 year warranty yet choose to not honour it. They are acting Illegal and i will continue to call them out until they do the right thing
Have you resolved your issue with Jumia? I am very keen on this case as a diasporian, i use Jumia often for my folks and once, about 4yrs ago had an issue with a microwave i purchased from them which they promptly resolved by arranging to pick up and repair and return - thats the reason i continued to use them. so if they have now changed, i will divert to Konga and others cos i dont have energy for drama and big english.

There are somethings one does not buy online

Especially edibles and electronics

So sorry about that,, maybe u should take it to anybof their pick up station around u....they might give u more insight on the way forward....goodluck....

But no try am next time

The only things i buy on jumia is anything fashion related,, sneakers, bags, outfits,, etc
Then Jumia shouldn't advertise nor engage in the trade of electronics and edibles if they do not have the facilities to honor the law.
By law, it is Jumia's responsibility to honor the warranty claim and then recover their costs from thr trader directly. There are consumer protection laws that govern the nigerian business space and mentalities such as yours is the reason why bad customer service and dodgy biz practices grow within the 9ja space.
You cannot run an online business asking people to trust u eith their monies yet not honour what yoy have published on your site. I will watch this post keenly as i use Konga and Jumia often.

FamilyRe: Am I Doing Bad As A Father And Husband by keepingmum: 10:35am On Jun 23, 2022
You are not doing bad as a father. However as a husband, its for your wife to comment upon.

The truth is this, how you treat your wife when the going was good will play a huge part in how she steps up when you hit a rough patch.

Did you consider her a good team player, listen to her concerns and advise, seek her input (you ultimately are the decision maker in the home but making your wife feel listened to is key). Did you treat her, spend on her during those times?

Where you supportive of her goals and growth?? If you were not, then it is no surprise she is behaving this way. If you have friends or family living in your home as well during this period on your sole executive order, again, your wife is within her feelings to act this way.

But if otherwise, then perhaps you sit down and have a grown up conversation with her rather than speaking with strangers on here for guidance on how to navigate ur home

FamilyRe: How Much Feeding Allowance Is Sufficient For A Family Of Five by keepingmum:

100k for feeding a month is good even with current situation. Your wife is mismanaging money.

Tell her to draw a list of how she spends money, you will quickly see where money is being wasted.

N50k can buy rice, garri, beans, oil, spaghetti, noodles, eggs to last a month. The other N50k goes to creating variety in how the bulk ingredients at home are prepared.
25k a week is 100k a month

My accepting my Boss's plea was not because I wasn't thinking in my right frame of mind, but this is my Boss, the man who still pay my salary and accomodated my kids and I for 12days... saying NO will make me look like an ingrate and give me a bad record at work for being adamant...I wanted Folykaze to prove to my Boss how beastly he can be under his sheepy clothed look....if many of you reading this sees Folykaze one on one, you'd never be on my side and will even scold me on his behalf cos of his *GENTLE* and calm looks.
Ok, so what do you want from us in clear terms?

Cos updating this series isnt necessary without any goal in sight.

- do you wany money to move out again or to complete ur rent?

- your post suggests u would be willing to reconcile with ur partner if he pays your brideprice which then makes me wonder, why you want to leave him?

Are you just leaving because you dont want to stay with someone who hasnt paid your brideprice or because he isnt feeding or housing you? Which is it?

You cant continue to involve nairaland and the police without being firm and honest to yourself and the public on what you actually want.
Remember what you need has to be practical, achievable and perhaps requires compromise from both of you.

I'm sorry for everything fams
How do you intend to pay the loan you currently accessed, save for the next rent including living expenses as its clear your baby daddy wouldn't support you financially even when you are independentoff him.

Infact , from allegations against you and your baby daddy here, its clear you and your baby daddy couldnt sustain yourselves on a joint income as you were both regular beggars on nairaland (we dont know of other social media platforms) so its unlikely you will sustain yourself as a single parent.

I reiterate, go back to your fathers house where food and rent is free, start job hunting whilst hustling on the side ( cooking/catering, making hair, private tutoring since you are a teacher, frying akara etc) and then, perhaps people might be willing to support you financially when they see the steps you have taken. This is Buhari economy and nobody has it easy neither is anyone willing to let money fly easy.

If you continue to resist the above, then speak with your own relatives for support to complete your rent, there are also many fb groups that offer items for free perhaps you explore those also

The will was made when he had no intention of remarriage, so he had no option than to add his next of kin which is his son as the beneficiary.
After marriage he was in the process of modifying it but couldn’t do so until is untimely death
10yrs is a long time to amend a will. The widow should start making plans to fend for herself rather than sit down and throw a pity party expecting hand outs from the beneficiaries
FamilyRe: Remarriage And Will In Nigeria by keepingmum: 6:10pm On May 24, 2021
There is no advice. If the deceased didn't update his will, there's no recourse for the widow....it will be nice, morally if tje beneficiaries give something to the widow however she isnt legally entitled to anything.

Myself for example, my hubby and i have individual life insurance policies, i also have a few assets in my name that i put in a trust for our children. After extended family burnt Oga's hands, the only asset he has was amended and added to the trust i created for my kids.

My insurance policy in case of my demise is split equally between oga and the kids with 10% going to my mum (if she survives me).
Oga's policy is also split 50% to me and the rest to the kids with a small percentage to his parents (should they survive him).

We both know that should anyone of us die, our kids won't worry for money but also, neither I nor Oga will be bothered about another person coming to come and chop/inherit properties we individually and collectively worked for, for our kids.

Remarry if you may but work and keep things for ur children
