If she was visiting her mother in the village, will she have posted it on social media?

Travel / Re: My Opinion On Marriage By African Men In Diaspora. by Kenn55: 11:19pm On Dec 20, 2020
For every bad news about marriage troubles among Nigerian couples abroad, there are hundreds of thousands of working marriages among Nigerian couples abroad. I have been attending a Nigerian church for years, there has never been any single marriage wahala or divorce. All marriages including mine are blossoming. However, when one marriage get k-leg, it will definitely make news. Nigerian couples in Nigeria also have problems too.

Travel / Re: Opinion:- 10 Reasons Why Nigeria Is Better Than Canada by Kenn55: 2:35pm On Dec 15, 2020
hakeem4:
okay let me give you a real life example of someone I know very well. the person collects 1300CAD every month before tax. After tax it gets to about nine hundred and something. i would pay rent, and other bills at the end of the day she is left with nothing

Guy, stop lying to buttress your point.

Nobody collects 1300CAD in Canada a month doing a full time job even if it is cleaning toilet. Minimum wage is $14 per hour. If you are working full time (40 hours a week) cleaning toilets, you will earn 2240 CAD a month before taxes. Most people in those low category of work do overtime or 2 jobs. It won't be surprising seeing that person take up a weekend job where they will work for extra 10 hours over the weekend and make extra money.
Now, people in those category have a very low tax bracket. Canada does not have a flat tax for everyone, it depends on your earnings. In Canada, people keep receipts and record of some things they pay out of pocket like rents, church offerings etc. and at the end of the tax year, you can include those expenses when filing your taxes and you will get some money back from the government as refund. In my first year in Canada, the money i and my wife got back in our tax return from government was enough to buy our second car.

You need to understand a system thoroughly before you make good judgement. Don't rely on hear say or what you read on Nairaland. Some of the information peddled on this forum may not be lies but are half-truths. The thing is that Half-truth is worse than lies.

The person you are talking about may just be working part time or a student who is only expected to work 20 hours a week maximum or there is something else they are not telling you. In reality no permanent resident full time worker will earn just 1300CAD every month. Not mathematically possible.

One thing most of you don't understand is that you don't rate a country based on the rich. The rich in any country Canada and the US included is a small percentage of the entire population and will always be so. You rate a country based on what is available to the lower class, the poor. What services are available to them? What social benefits are available to them? How are the poor treated? etc.

For instance, the poor in Nigeria will not even have the opportunity to do 2 jobs even if they want to. Why? Because the system does not support it. By not having an hourly wage in Nigeria, you have systematically prevented the poor from working in 2 places that would have helped them earn more.

It is not surprising. It is very important to have a backup country even if you are comfortable in Nigeria at the moment. I wish Nigeria will be better but the reality is that it can't. If you have what it takes, get a second citizenship now. It is a wise investment.

If you understand the dynamics of global politics, you will realise that the person residing in the White House directly or indirectly influences every other person in the world. Especially people in third world countries like Nigeria.

I agree with you. However, the way a lot of Nigerians were taking the election as if whoever wins will put Nigerian interest at heart starting becoming disgusting. Its one thing to love and support a candidate based on one's view but to become emotional and start insulting others is a stupid thing to do. Nigeria will not gain anything whether Trump or Biden is in the white house so why the brouhaha?

last time I checked Northerners are the victim of Boko Haram unless you live in the north, my bad. Insecurity is not peculiar to naija alone. Usa, brazil, south africa, france are all crime prone. Innocent people are killed in those countries. Is it because they don't report it in the media? Go to alternative media platforms like hoodsite dot com worldstarhiphop dot com and see for yourself.
You are talking about loans, which country is not borrowing to stay afloat this moment? UK is running a furlough scheme, for unemployed people which has run the country into debt and you know who will pay it? Foreigners with huge taxes. You work like lion and eat like ant.
USA worst unemployment records at the moment. You think if you enter abroad, you would even see cleaning job? Lol.
The problem in naija is just corruption and bad government. Swear you didn't vote in this bad government.

In a way you are right. However, the difference is that with the western countries, you are sure that they will turn things around with time. In the next 1 or 2 years with the corona under control, they will reverse the current problems and get back to growth again. The problem with Nigeria is not with just today's problems. The major issue is that the country seem never to have any capacity to confront her challenges and solve them. Even before corona, Nigeria was getting worse and even with corona out of the way, there is no evidence that shows things will be better especially with the current leadership we have and the crop of politicians showing interest to take over from the current leadership.

The way you guys juggle facts to suit your narratives can be funny sometimes. China has a population of over 1.5 billion people. Used to be a Communist behemoth but now a thriving capitalist state , you would expect some citizens to be already entrenched outside during the communist era.. A province in China is more than "Holland, Denmark and Sweden combined", so why won't you see more Chinese than other Asians outside, just like you see Iindians? Lots of foriegners with different skill sets moving in on daily basis. In fact, at a point, Guangdong had close to 300,000 Nigerians! Just Nigerians. Many English speaking teachers, many exchange students, many manufacturers starting up shops in China for obvious reasons. You can choose to argeu, what I just told you is a fact I'm very conversant with..

Oga, you are exaggerating. There is no how close to 300,000 Nigerians will be living in the whole of China not to talk of a city. Show us the data

Ignorant talk... Travel, una no go travel. If you know the opportunities available for emigrants in China , you won't be here talking anyhow. Do you even know that there are many young Nigerians, who left to China without up to a thousand dollars in their pockets but are today factory owners in China? Is Nigeria better than America or Britain whose citizens are swamming all Chinese cities job hunting?

Hmmmm.

Total number of all foreigners in China is just over 900,000. This is even less than the number of foreigners in Nigeria.
The number of Chinese in the USA alone is more than 3.5 million. The number of Chinese living all over the world is more than the population of Holland, Denmark and Sweden combined. So i don't think you know what you are talking about.

Religion needs to be off limit. No religion should be mocked. I’m Christian but I will say Muslims have a right to be pissed... I remember when Netflix created a movie about a gay Jesus, I was so pissed off and angry.... People need to stop making jokes using religion... there are so many other things they can make fun of why does it always have to be religion..... if Muslims go and attack Charlie Hebdo again, French people will be saying pray for France pray for France but they brought it upon themselves.

After your anger, did you behead anyone? Did you protest on the streets? Did you attack anyone? Did you not allow God to fight for himself?
Someone needs to make these idiots understand that they should either accept the right of free speech in the west or they go back to their Islamic countries. I don't even understand why they keep trooping to the west knowing fully well that their religion is not compatible with the western culture. If France should ban all Muslim countries now from entering France or stop giving citizenship to Muslims now, they would start crying. Did you notice that they never condemned the beheading?

The probability of Nigeria getting better as a country is 0.00001%
The reason is that there are far too many unreasonable people coupled with unreasonable leaders who will ensure that nothing works and the status quo remains. There will never be a time when things including protests will go on smoothly and achieve the required result as expected. Too bad

when you grow up you will know the meaning of "political structure". Let me ask you, can you win councillorship election in your ward? I doubt it? Is it that you can't convince people to vote for you? I don't believe so. It is about the structure.

Make no mistake bros, I am not fighting you. Like you said, I want to understand in clear terms what political structure means. I am not a politician and you shouldn't be surprised I don't know what it means. If you can explain it with clear examples, that would be helpful. Thanks

Fayemi supported PDP because he hates Tinubu. Fayemi should know that he has no business contesting for President or VP , Tinubu is the most qualified for the office of the President. Fayemi should go to house of representatives or senate house. He doesn't have the political structure in SW.

I keep hearing this word "Political structure" in Nigerian politics. What exactly is political structure? Is it people who snatch ballot boxes or burn ballot boxes in opposition strongholds like they ones we saw in Lagos 2019? I thought to win an election, you need to convince people to vote for you. Is it the political structure that would convince the people? Please if you understand this issue very well, you can explain to me. I'm open to learning new things. Thanks

Travel / Re: Obudu Mountain Resort Looks Like Europe But Nigerians Don't Value Their Own by Kenn55: 8:08pm On Sep 21, 2020
Nigerians have a unique character. The elites and political class do not want to share any space with the average Nigerian. This is why they do not value anything in Nigeria no matter how good it is. The set of people who can afford to patronize these places will always prefer to go abroad and snap their pictures, put it on Instagram and bloggers will blog with caption "XYZ spotted in London", "XYZ holidaying in Atlanta" etc They are happy because the common man cannot go to London and Atlanta.

Imagine if the elites and political class patronize these places and help popularize it, "XYZ spotted in Obudu Mountain Resort", Instead of Buhari going to London for vacation as he used to, the caption will be "Buhari vacations at Obudu Mountain Resort". The average people will start getting attracted and seeing value in these places. At least they can save and vacation there even if it is for one night. The knowledge that Nigerian big boys and girls also vacation there will bring in a lot of the ordinary people which will make it boom. But unfortunately, the Nigerian elites will never go to places where there are possibilities of sharing spaces with the ordinary Nigerians. In Nigeria, class is everything.

Carry this exact Obudu Mountain Resort and put it in say Europe or America, you will how Nigerians will start going there and snapping pictures for people in Nigeria to see and salivate. grin

If you moved back to Nigeria from the west, what challenges are you facing and how would you advice someone that is planning to move and establish a business in adjusting properly, with due emphasis in navigating the business environment of Nigeria? I am Nigerian German, in my late 20's, and hungry for success. I believe Africa, especially Nigeria is the new wide west to make big bucks quickly.

Good advice will be appreciated. Thank you.

The only reason why I would not discourage you from moving back to Nigeria is because of the fact that you have option and you are young. If Nigeria was your "Last card", I would have discouraged you. The good thing is that even if things don't work as planned, you have the option of starting afresh in Germany.
The Nigerian business climate is not for the weak and morally upright. I have run business in Nigeria, I can tell you this for a fact. Nigeria will test you to the limit.

I know of some Diaspora returnees that have since left Nigeria after they gave up. If you have done your feasibility studies properly and convinced about it, you can give it a try. You could be one of the lucky few who made it happen. Good luck bro

For Iran mind now they are fighting for Palestine. If they are fighting injustice for the Muslims why did they keep mute on the treatment of Uighur Muslims in China. Those ones are not Muslim enough? Or because they are in bed with China so they closed their eyes to the issue

Apart from Metsul Ozil of Arsenal, how many people in the Muslim world have given a shit about the plights of Uighur Muslims? But they would talk about Palestine because it involves Israel and it suits their agenda.

By the way, i am not supporting Israel, I am just highlighting the hypocrisy of some of these Islamic nations
