You're not Igbo, you don't live in the SE yet you think you know the region better. 1. Rochas's projects are only in Owerri and his own LGA. All the other parts of Imo don't know about his government. 2. Rochas's Imo State gets the highest allocation among all South East States. He should have more projects than the other governors. 3. Rochas is owing Imo civil servants several months salary. Umahi and Ugwuanyi aren't owing. 4. Despite the meagre allocation and IGR of Ebonyi, Umahi has more solid projects than Rochas. |

TheSTreetman: Suicide seems so easy these days. What's happening..
When am broke and depressed in life, I have never had any thoughts of suicide or committing crime.
What's happening? . Children of nowadays thinks say life is Bread and Butter You've probably not been depressed before. You've been sad several times but possibly not depressed. Even if you've been depressed, it might have been a mild one. A person suffering from severe depression sees no reason to live anymore. Life makes absolutely no sense. Neither money, nor fame, nor drinks, nor women etc can make life interesting again for someone in that situation. Only the Holy Spirit can save a person suffering from severe depression with suicidal ideation. It's just the same way a person possessed by evil spirits can't deliver himself except by the power of God. I think sometimes, depression is an evil spirit that can possess people pushing them to destroy their lives. Pray you don't ever find yourself in that situation. You can't be too big, wise, smart etc for it. Severe depression leading to suicide has taken the lives of many doctors, professors, lawyers, various intellectuals, even priests before. |

Adeboye is wise, changing a General in the middle of a batle doesnt bring about positive changes, the army has a Modern day War room where war strategist meet and draw out battle plans for months tampering with that would cost us another long time to strategise.
Buhari was formerly a GOC of NorthEast Military Command and he headed two major battles, one against Chadian army headed by idris debby (chad current President) and the other against Maitatsine Militia, and Buhari knows very much that for us to win the battle against Northern Insurgency, Chad, Cameroun, Niger all need to fight together simultaneously for the terrorist not to retreat into other countries
What is needed to win the war against Fulani terrorists? Has Buhari even agreed the herdsmen are terrorists? Just a few days ago, Presidency told us that Miyetti Allah deserves respect not insults. So do you think Buhari's FG is seriously trying to deal with Fulani terrorism (in form of herdsmen and bandits) which at the moment is even worse than Boko Haram? |

What I see as healthy rivalry is when an Igbo man performs excellently in any field and Igbos come and start shouting Igbo Amaka. Then the next positive news is about a Yoruba person, and Yorubas come to tell Igbos that they are superior. I consider such stuff healthy rivalry, but not when someone starts shouting Afonja skull miners or piggyyeasterners from poto poto republic. There's nothing healthy about those repugnant statements and name calling. |

You don't have to stop if you don't wish to. I only call out people who throw the first shots, and I only do that occasionally. Politics › Re: Only 10 Nigerian States Economically Viable, 17 Bankrupt [see Details] by Kennydoc(m): 10:10pm On May 12, 2019 |
omohayek: How do your anecdotal observations prove anything one way or another? Have you lived in every corner of those two states, steadily collecting taxes as you did so? Have you done similarly thorough ground studies of all the other states? Your response betrays a lack of understanding of basic statistics.
Again, all of this is mere assertion, backed by nothing more than your own highly subjective, anecdotal observations. Go ahead and prove me wrong by providing links (NOT pictures) to reputable sources for your claims. Anecdotal claims aren't worth anything, especially when made anonymously on the internet by people with tribal axes to grind.
More anecdotes without the slightest credible evidence to support them. I could just as easily claim to have visited every one of the 36 states, and found Anambrans to be the most willing to pay taxes in the country, and it would then be your word against mine.
But if they don't pay taxes, and aren't committing tax fraud, they can't be reporting their numbers to any official organizations. That being the case, how do you know just how well these businesses are doing? Did they open their books to you alone? Even with publicly-listed international companies like Apple, Google and Amazon, investors have to wait for their quarterly reports to come out to know how well they are doing, yet here you are claiming to know the financial health of companies that don't report their activities or pay taxes. Who says other such companies aren't thriving as well throughout the rest of the country?
But those Western companies at least respect the formal requirement to publicly file quarterly and annual tax reports, which anyone can look up on the internet. Can you say the same for these mystery Anambran and Abian companies of yours?
Also, all these figures about IGR sometimes mean little to me. Anambra is one of the few states that never got bailout from FG, yet it's nowhere among the top 10 states with good IGR. Some of those states there got bail out from FG.
Argentina, Greece, Turkey, South Korea and even the United Kingdom have all received IMF bailouts, while the USA and UK have both run current and/or budget deficits for going on decades. China and Japan both have domestic debt burdens of over 250%. By your yardstick, all of these countries are inferior to "virtuous" Nigeria, yet I'm certain you would flee to any one of these other countries in a heartbeat if you had the chance. Good night! |

omohayek: Do you think repeating this made-up nonsense enough times will magically make it true? Not a single Nigerian state comes close to the levels of taxation found throughout the developed world, or even in middle-income countries like China, Thailand. Even Lagos State is an ultra-low tax region by international standards.
It's nonsense to speak of being so heavily dependent on federal allocations as if it were something to be proud of. What happens if the FG suddenly decides to slash them for whatever reason? A far more likely reason why IGR is so low in the SE states is that their levels of internal economy activity simply can't support higher taxes. Your choice of words is just irritating for a decent argument. You can disagree with me but stop calling my opinion nonsense. I don't like it. You haven't lived in Anambra (and Abia) before so you don't know the level of economic activities there. Anambra has one of the highest number of Nigerian billionaires (in Naira). There are very many thriving businesses there. Anambra is much more economically viable than Edo State. I lived in Edo for 7 years, so I know the state well enough. I've told you the issue with Anambra, and that's the fact that people don't like paying tax. Any governor that vigorously pursues taxation easily attracts the wrath of the people. These are not like sound business organisations with well laid out structure, so it's difficult to get optimal tax from them, but many of those businesses are doing very well and can actually pay more tax. Even in the Western world, private business owners quote low revenue to reduce their tax, how much more in Nigeria. Also, all these figures about IGR sometimes mean little to me. Anambra is one of the few states that never got bailout from FG, yet it's nowhere among the top 10 states with good IGR. Some of those states with high IGR like Ogun and Edo etc got bail out from FG. How come they needed bailout despite their high IGR, yet Anambra with low IGR didn't need bailout? |

omohayek: I know these sorts of reports play serious havoc with your poor sense of tribal self-esteem, but you really need to stop repeating this nonsensical lie: if the states were allowed to keep any of the VAT collected within them, the dominance of Lagos in the IGR stats would be even more lopsided than it already is, as Lagos alone is responsible for over 55% of all VAT revenue in the country.
And if wishes were horses, beggars would ride. How do you know Edo and Ondo suffer from "high taxation"? Do you have any GDP numbers to support such a claim? And how do you know Anambra and Abia could raise such high revenues without GDP figures for them as well? Unless you can back your wild claims with numbers sources from reputable sources, all you've done here is reveal your wounded tribal pride for the world to see. As for the point in bold, I schooled in Edo State, and I was there during Oshiomhole's 1st tenure. He was the one that increased taxes. It caused a lot of uproar then because many proprietors of schools and various businesses were crying out because of the massive tax imposed on them by EDSG. Gradually, people adjusted. Ondo State increased their IGR from an average of around ₦800 million per month in 2017 to about ₦2 billion per month in 2018. What do you think led to that marked increase within one year? It's most likely increased (or possibly more efficient) taxation. The truth is that most of the states that have high IGR (including Lagos) are just more efficient with tax collection. If Anambra and Abia improve their tax collection system, their IGR will definitely rise. In such states with a large number of traders, it's more difficult to get people to pay the right amount of tax unlike in states with a large proportion of civil servants like Edo State. |

phantom: Bayelsa is a disgrace. Anamba, imo and Abia nkọ? This country needs to be badly restructured and I don't mean by secession of any part YET! We can start by pushing for removal of certain things from the exclusive list of the federal govt. Power for example. Once there is deregulation of power, a poor Northern state can borrow money from a bank and build an IPPS solely for a maskive industrial estate 3 to 5 times the size of trans amadi industrial layout in portharcourt. Dangote and other manufacturers would fall over themselves to own factories there. Do you know how much power supply adds to the overhead of a company daily? Attract businesses to your state. Give them power supply and they WILL GLADLY PAY REASONABLE TAX TO THE STATE. Some of Anambra and Abia IGR go to Lagos cos of VAT being paid to Lagos on products that are shipped down to both states. Also, both states have so many traders who usually don't like paying tax. Much of the high IGR from States like Edo and Ondo come from high taxation. If most of the traders in Anambra and Abia can start paying tax, both states should fall among the top 7 states with the highest IGR. |

In Nigeria, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. will build a 65 million liter per year cassava-based ethanol plant in on 15,000ha provided by the government of Ondo State. Additional investors are expected to participate in the project with the NNPC in the lead, a project that it believes will create 1 million jobs and reduce processed fuel imports. The country is a major oil exporter but has limited domestic refining capacity, leaving it exposed to fluctuating energy markets like the rest of much of Africa.
https://www.biofuelsdigest.com/bdigest/2017/11/02/nnpc-to-build-65-million-liter-cassava-based-ethanol-plant-in-ondo-state/ James Sowole in Akure The federal government has dedicated $30 million for the Cassava Ethanol Project at Okeluse in Ose Local Government area of Ondo State. The project, which would be sited on 15, 000 hectares is between the Ondo State Government and the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The move by the federal government was disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Agriculture, Mr Akin Olotu. Olotu, spoke in Akure, Ondo State, during the dedication of five awards won by the officers of the State office of FADAMA III Project to the state government.
The governor’s aide, who commended the activities of workers under FADAMA III project for the awards, said the ethanol project would solve many problems that cassava farmers had been facing.
Olotu disclosed that the ethanol project was initiated by the administration of the Late Dr Olusegun Agagu but was abandoned. He said the project was brought up again by the former Managing Director of NNPC, Engineer Funsho Kupolokun when the Economic Team was working on the Road Map to Progress at the take-off of the current administration.
Olotu said the ground breaking of the project would be done in November, adding that clearing of land for the project would start this week. According to Olotu, the project would generate not less than one million jibs both directly and indirectly. He added that the project when on operation would bring Ondo State up that in the area of renewable energy.
Speaking earlier, the Coordinator of FADAMA III in Ondo State, Mr Olusiji Olatunji, said the successive administration in the state had been demonstrating commitment to the project.
Olatunji said Ondo is the only state that has paid its counterpart fund since 2007 to 2018. He said it was the consistency of the government that excited the World Bank that had been supporting the state FADAMA project
