purple3091:I have already tackled your question in my previous post. You need to define what is Un-african? I keep |
First before we go on this merry-go round, I want you to define (in your terms not dictionary) what you understand as Un-African, so I will understand your angle of argument better. purple3091:You missed the whole point of my premise, which is Traditions sometimes have to evolve/adapt and discard useless practice to remain relevant. Female Genital Mutilation is a harmful tradition previously/still practiced and does not suit modern world and the victim. Would you call this a contradiction or cherrypicking if I insisted as an authority in your family to mutilate the female genitals of all your girls all in the name of tradition and irrespective of whether you uphold the tradition or not? purple3091:There's a lot of mumbled words in your post making it difficult to squeeze a meaning out of it. I'd assume you are in a hurry typing and probably preparing for church or something. Anyway, back to the above: As usual, you still miss the premise of my point, if someone chooses to do away with cellphones and cars and prefers the nomadic lifestyle, let's use a fulani for example, it does not in any way erode any of his tradition. He still remains a 100% fulani who enjoys his nunu. If he decides to use cellphones speak to his family members in other parts of Nigeria, practice modern day ranching and use cars to transport his cows to Lagos to make profit has any of this stopped him from being fulani? But when the fulani man makes a rule to henceforth call himself Akinyode Akinjide and other members of his family a full yoruba name, prevent his kids from learning the fulani language and other related cultural activities that erode his identity. You know what that means for his people in the next 200 years. |
murmee:Christians also wake people up every morning with their megaphones preaching! Remember this story below, here's an excerpt from the Vanguard. Her husband, Olawale Elisha, who is also a pastor at RCCG, told journalists that his wife had gone out to preach in the neighbourhood at about 5am and never returned home. “ My wife always goes out early in the morning for ‘Morning Cry. ’ There was a particular day she went out and she told me that there is a mosque at the back where they commented about what she said. So I just cautioned her. “This morning (Saturday), she went around 5am and I was still in bed because we did vigil which she participated in for a while because of the ‘Morning Cry’ she planned to undertake. It is not a muslim vs christian debate. That Muslims disturb with loudspeakers does not make it right for the Christians either! Both parties are masters in the business of disturbing at night and are equally wrong! |
I only came to confirm if a blog link is attached to the OP. Voila, it's right there! Bloggers be squeezing out what ever juice is left of the MMM traffic! |
purple3091:I am not quoting you based on your alleged unfaithfulness or otherwise, it's actually none of my business! I am quoting to correct your error of hasty generalisation or misleading opinion. Phones, modern clothes, internet, electricity, cars, books are not unafrican. I disagree completely. What is unafrican are objects/activities that encourage the dying out of previously held good African tradition and culture. The adoption of English/Arabic full names, the practice of Abrahamic religions, banning of the kids from learning or speaking the native tongue at home e.t.c are all actions that are Un-African. There's nothing wrong in adopting other people's good inventions like Phones, internet, electricity, cars or books, Western cultures also adopt other peoples inventions, so long it does not erode your tradition. I do not see how using the internet or driving a car erode's ones tradition or make it less the tradition. Modern clothes that cover the body well can be also be adopted or modified. There are not harmful. The Japanese take their cultural practice serious but still wear modern day suits in the office. It does not reduce their tradition one bit. A Nigerian female banker will go to work in her suit but turn up at an owambe party on saturday in Ankara or Adire aso-ebi with her friends to celebrate. Traditional culture and practices are meant to evolve while discard the bad/unfriendly practices. |
johnydon22:This is the part that irks me the most. I work in the aviation sector and every year, most especially towards the later part of a year, I get to see huge number of pilgrims being airlifted to either Jerusalem or Mecca. Each state brings its sponsored pilgrims in buses for like a day or two through out this duration. These are the people the country subsidizes dollars for, to go and spend in hotels, restaurants and see Abrahamic religious places and past events. Their host countries smile to the bank (Saudi most especially)and economy boosted with the influx of dollars brought in and spent by these pilgrims daily while Nigeria is left with worthless religious memorabilia brought in by Pilgrims with the subsidized dollars like vials of Jerusalem sand that Jesus supposedly walked on. I am not an economist,so pardon my ignorance, of what use is a few grains of Jerusalem sand to Nigeria? |
mazimee:He's not an atheist, he is a hard-core traditionalist. Go back and read the write-up. And you got 75 likes for this, meaning 75 people who never READ the subject and must accuse the atheist. They must be really saying something that is causing doubt for you and getting into your skin for you to label this guy as one, when the OP clearly says HARDCORE TRADITIONALIST. Christians also go on the offensive, infact theirs is a daily occurence and much physically worse, from intruding and burning other people's shrine who are minding their business to disturbing the sleep and peace of residents with loud speakers in the name of vigil at 2a.m. |
NubiLove:He's not an atheist, he is a traditionalist. Go back and read the write-up. |
Come on go and cover up with some good clothes ![]() |
In other news, the Israeli government is smiling to the bank with the foreign dollars the Ekiti pilgrims have brought into their country in the name of tourism, thereby strengthening the Israeli economy. Score line: Israel 3 - Nigeria 0 . |

Oga better focus on NFF paying your salary forget jersey colour for now! |
If my office make the mistake of transferring me to Lagos even at triple the posting allowance (which is a hefty sum), I will just go and beg my oga, lie down and roll on the floor to leave me in my present location. No kidding. I love my sanity. #Team.Abuja.Everyday one4GOD:Madam, have you been to Calabar? Abuja? I can not come and be living in a place where I have to leave the house at 4:30 a.m just to get to work on time and still get home 10:30 p.m/11p.m. ! |
Evergreen4:Meanwhile FG civil servants had various degrees of deduction from their November salaries! How that will that help combat with all these hike FG is dashing the citizens sef! |
kindredspirit:Let them even tell us how they arrived at N18.765 billion. 1. Did Mavrodi himself give them(OP/blogger) the data showing how much he made from people's frozen mavro? 2. Was any survey conducted on participants who had their mavros frozen indicating the amount contributed? 3. Where are the results of the survey? We would like some answers Olajide Fashikun, Collins Ajibola, Oluwole Francis and Sandra Onyekwere of gongnews! |
I am interested in the Op or the blogger's source of stats/proofs/evidence that made him arrive at the conclusion that people lost over N18.675 billion naira. I am disappointed in the moderator that pushed such false info without verification to the frontpage! |
These days if you want free traffic to your blog or 5 minutes fame, just add MMM as keyword and it will come pouring in. |
Wow, I did it and saw the ghost of one of the greatest Badoos ever liveth in Nigeria. Sir Abacha! |
Omudia11:Here is my first reply to you: kevoh:[/quote]Where is the insult in the quote above? The above was even a sarcastic advice to the OP that he is even leading more christians to atheism with his insults. I think you should take your advice below seeing that you just want to comment for comment's sake. Omudia11: |
I don't believe in all these how would you answer bla bla bla question in a job interview sesson. Who will get the job would still get the job! Infact, you can answer this particular question in a wrong manner and still get the job so long you can defend your reasons! |
Omudia11:Lol... This is funny I have not even insulted any one in this thread or act ill-mannered and he/she is already calling me names. Christians sha! ![]() |
Omudia11:So why is the OP and many others on religion section in this habit? He got some likes too for his insults, which is proof that there are people who support him too. I will repeat what I said below: kevoh: |
OneTruePrince:A lot of people watch Dstv despite its exorbitant price. There are other Channels that appeal to people that's why Dstv still had a strong customer base even when HiTV took over airing of Premiership. |
It's sad! You have 14 posts since you joined NL, with about five or six of them already hidden. Your first post on Religion section and you are already insulting everyone! Pretty much explains what mordern christianity is all about! Keep it up OP, at this rate you will draw a lot of christians losing their faith back to christianity. ![]() |
When skeptics were saying that he probably fell in there, Nairaland team of theists who do not like to use brain to question, analyze and test had to forcefully attribute it to spiritual. Thank you channels TV. |
Christian and their victim complex. Those words are still being used on TBN,EWTN and other DSTv christian religious channels. The censor is only on Africa Movie channel and the likes, not only christians watch these movie channels, some people of other faith might complain and its only fair and smart for DsTV not to lose its customers by staying neutral. If you want to hear god and jesus go to christian channels if you would like to see christian films on DsTV you can pressurize DsTV to make one, the way they made igbo channel from pressure. |

QuietHammer:Alright bro |
QuietHammer:I do not understand your argument. Please expatiate! Has Man has not landed on the moon after the whole Neil armstrong saga? ![]() |
Not a crime If the patients wants to be preached to. All hospitals in the UK have spiritual councillors, pastors and chapels to pray with 24/7 access. They can also request a priest/Rev/pastor at all times. That wasn't her role, not unless the patient requested it directly from her. Trust me, the disiplinary method within our NHS is long. She would have been called for 3 supervisions, verbal warnings, written warnings. This most likely would have been going on for a long time despite being warned. She probably got sacked due to several complaints from patients who didn't want to be prayed for or weren't interested. She had a professional and a clinical responsibility to her patients. It's heart breaking because I see a lot of African Christian nurses doing this. We can't impose our faith on people no matter how much we feel they need it. Oh dear.. Oh dear!Good riddance! African Christians always putting their religion in your face at every opportunity but when they come up against a critic, they will be telling you to respect their religion. Once again, good riddance abeg! ![]() |
Hoax or not! Man has been able to make it to the moon after that! That's a great achievement for man! |
