Foreign AffairsRe: More Than 8,000 Libyans Killed In Revolt: Rebel by Kgdavid(m): 5:28pm On Mar 24, 2011
1. there have really not been any such similar conflicts in recent times(where an incumbent uses the full might of the military indiscriminatly against his own people) but saddam hussein in a period of about 24 years killed over a million people in non combat situations. that translates to roughly 3 thousand deaths per month, y then is it so far fetched that during a combat period wer an incumbent releases the full force of the military in his control indiscriminately that 8 thousand could die?

2. dont really know wat happened in 1993 but ur example is wide off the mark as the no fly zone was not a product of gaddafis refusal to stand down but rather of his indiscriminate attacks on his own people. he appropriate example would be : during the biafra war would i have been ok with military installations in lagos being bombed? yes i would if i were on the biafra side

3. of course its not ok if someone attacks you and then leaves, thats the reason why there are rebels in libya today with the backing of the international community. dont lose the trail obread crumbs here, gaddaffi was the initial aggressor

4.again i dont know wat happened but its pretty clear that the international community has a responsibility to protect civillians from violence from their own leadership. have they always lived up to this responsibility? no. are they living up to it now? yes. any ulterior motives for this? possibly. any evidence of ulterior motives? none.
Foreign AffairsRe: More Than 8,000 Libyans Killed In Revolt: Rebel by Kgdavid(m): 11:30am On Mar 24, 2011
1. of couse i havent been able to back that number up and u'd be hard pressed to back up your claim that it is a bogus number for the very same reason that neither of us is there on the ground. however i have a much stronger standing as the figures i quote are reported by recognized news outlets who are on the ground. whether or not they are embellishing the facts is the subject of mere speculation and cannot be treated as fact.

2. of course i know that there are ethnic underrcurrents to the libyan crisis which is in fact probably the only reason why gaddafi has supporters but then if you are saying the uprising is off people who used to enjoy the spoils of power before gaddafi took over, then you are in effect saying gaddaffi has marginalized certain sections of the libyan people with respect to tribe? is this not just as wrong as any other act of mis-governance? in any case gaddaffi took over over 40 years ago with mot of the protesters being below the age of 40, what would they know about life before gaddaffi? does this explain why top ranking libyan officials who obviously would have been well off defected?

3.ok so no fly zone is an invasion of libya right? now after destroying gadafi's military might and the raids stop. would you say the invasion had been successful if gaddaffi is still in power? also who exactly would you say is invading libya? the U.S , Nato, britain, france, the arab league, the A.U etc, i guess ur obvious answer would be america since the whole point of this thread seems to be to point out how america are the bad guys. the fact you wold ignore is that this is a joint mission sanctioned by all relevant bodies and in fact the first strikes were made by france!

4.wat the heck are you talkin about? people were getting killed daily and you say the standard for international intervention was not met? sure the insurgency would not have lasted another month and you know why? because they were going to be massacred! gaddaffi publicly proclaimed that they would take benghazi ad there would be "no mercy"

your entire point is based on speculation that the figure of 8000 quoted is a lie and further speculation that since that must be a lie then they must be lying about other stuff. pure speculation based on which you make accusations which under the circumstances could amount to slander!

Foreign AffairsRe: More Than 8,000 Libyans Killed In Revolt: Rebel by Kgdavid(m): 1:21am On Mar 24, 2011
1. some of the protester were indeed ex military but the rebels are not well trained because you cannot train civilians for combat within a week! and yes they had a few tanks and anti aircraft weapons but these are not to be compared with what gaddafi has. so you say they were able to make ground only because the libyan army is fragmented (ironically kinda proving my initial point) how then if i may ask were pro gaddafi forces able to push them back to benghazi?

2.libya is still classed as a developing country. but even if you say they are developed then ur saying the people have no reason to fight? then offer an explanation for whats going on in Libya right now

3. if a democracy is enacted, the libyan government gets to decide if any companies swoop in or not and under what terms. there is no reason why a democratic government cannot maintain such a regulatory body. you seem to either be totally ignorant of or deliberately ignore the fact that the u.s is aiming to achieve less involvement in this mission. if they were really just looking for a chance to grab some oil why didnt they act sooner?

why dont you make your stand point clear instead of attempting to counter me with aimless points. what is your own view of what is happening in libya vis a vis american involvement?

birdman:
You have no proof of the bolded part. Funny how within days of a peaceful protest, a well armed insurgency suddenly surfaces. Armed enough to beat back an army.
This is beside the point reallyThe no-fly zone is an euphemism. It draws out the insurgency and has likely balkanized Libya for good. If bombs are raining on your head, its safe to say you are being invaded regardles of what they tel you.
Is it not simplistic as well to assume the "8000" killed were civilians?
on the flip side, it might help to actually analyse what you hear on the news, instead of swallowing it without thinking.
1. the proof for that point was all over the news when it happened. the rebels broke into the armoury and took the weapons there which led to pro gaddafi efforts to bomb the armoury. if yu have also been following the news you would have known that the protesters are not well armed neither are they well trained. they were only able to make grounds because the libyan military underestimated them however when the then Libyan military regrouped the rebels were pushed back all the way to benghazi from tripoli and would have been exterminated if not for allied intervention.

2. its not beside the point since america has on this thread been accused of invading that country that gaddafi "developed beyond its peers". the question here is if all was fine in libya and americans are only here for profit then how did they manage to stir up such a massive uprising? it shows how little information people have about this conflict. are you aware thta initial efforts by the brittish to aid the rebels were refused?

3.no fly Zone is an euphimism for what exactly? an invasion? do you know what it takes to carry out a full scale invasion? the allied forces are taking out specific military targets to neutralize pro ghaddafi's unfair advantage. there are no ground forces involved, how exactly cn you reasonably call that an invasion? time and time agiain it has been clarified that gaddafi is not a target of the bombings and that he is not partof their mandate. it is not an invasion!

4. of course not all the killed were non combatants but the issue here is, as long as some of the killed were civillians with an extremely high tendency for more civilians to be kiled, international intervention was necessary. those clamouring that america is looking for oil are probably not even aware that obama haas said there will be zero ground forces involved and that the U.S is trying to pull back from its position of leadership but no other nation or organization wants to tke the lead.

but what exactly is your point?

shallow minded individuals with little knowledge trying to pass off as smart by subscribing to popular opinion(america the oil hungry bad guys invading arab nations) without being completely informed. it seems obvious to me that instead of watching the news as it unfolds, the lot of you would rather watch conspiracy theory moives and come back and multiply the little information you have with the false ideology that you posses.

1. the Libyan revolution started as a PEACEFUL PROTEST same as was held in egypt. for several days the protesters were brutally attacked and had etreme violence meted out to them till members of the military started defecting, supplying the protesters with arms and a means to defend themselves.

2. are you saying that american instigated thousands of libyans to take to the streets in the first place?

3. are you saying the no fly zone currently imposed by a coalition of nations sanction by the U.N and A.U and requested for by the Arab league is tantamount to an united states invasion of Libya?

4. is it not evidence of your simplistic way of thinking to assume that everyone inhabiting the rebel occupied cities are combatants?

if you want to be taken serious as political commentators then stop watchin those movies you love so much and start watching the news.

i live in Gambia, been here for years visiting nigerian from time to time so i guess im more qualified to tell whats on the ground here. there has been and is still ongoing massive development going on in this country. guess a nigerian wont be the best to criticise another government of arresting people, how many people are killed regularly on the mere allegation of suspiscion of armed robbery in nigeria? come on, the reason why there are a lot of foreign owned businesses in the tourism sector is simply because most gambians do not have the expertise to operate western styled restaurants etc but there are lots of gambian owned hotels etc. of course there are those who as you say are prostituting themselves to tourists because its big business! they end up get married and gettin new passorts and relativley big bucks they do this not because there are no other options at all, in any case have you ever seen a nation especially an african nation most especially a west african nation completely poverty free? there are nigerian people down here doing the same "prostituting" you know. i can show you pictures of several areas across banjul, this place is definitely not as bad as it has been made to seem. economy wise we are talking of steady gdp growth over the past decade, with a number of prominent nigerian banks finding it lucrative enough to set up shop here. Jammeh realizes that the country has a long road to go and has a detailed road map to get there. two main areas that jammeh has targeted are agriculture and education. any gambian going into agriculture will recieve a high level of support from the government. the country has only one full university pioneered by President Jammeh which has been growing over the past ten years. recently the american university of west africa moved here bringing another medical school, do americans move their assets to the countries of unstable dictators? your constant reference to the tourism industry makes me understand that you visited the country as a tourist and that ur understanding of the country is quite limited but let me assure you of one thing, a middle class life in gambia is much much much better than a middle class life in nigeria.(wont talk bout upperclass cuz najia folks are too much on that score) as for gaddafis racism, havent you every heard/read his comments concerning a "black europe"? lol what are you talkin about? everday there is news of more gaddafi assets being frozen outside of libya, assets estimated to run between 1-70 billion usd!! but then again since he has made life easy for the libyan people, they are openly revolting because, ?

Jamme and Ghadafi are cut from the same clothe. Brutal, Sit tight, dynasty chasing dictators. They will not hesitate to use brutal force to quell any form of opposition. You simply cannot justify any form of dictatorship in Africa, That is wrong on so many levels.
As a matter of fact i do not think the majority of sub saharan africa is ready for true democracy. Firstly the masses are largely uneducated and have little clue on the workings of economics and would have no idea as to which candidate actually proposes and has the capability to implement sound economic policies. secondly due to the highly sectarian/bigotic/ethnocentric nature of Africans in general, politics is usually a game won by the man with the largest familiy. African countries need an all hands on deck approach to development, for now at least, regardless of who is at the helm of affairs.
Foreign AffairsRe: Gambian President Hits Out At African Union Over Gaddafi Protests by Kgdavid(m): 1:08am On Mar 02, 2011
the key term really is "the will of the masses", Yayha Jammeh has brought quite a lot of development to the Gambia and contrary to the situation in the northern african countries, it would appear that this regime is by and large a popular one. Yayha Jammeh apparently is a man with a vision and ill tell you one thing, if nigeria had his kind of leadership we would have gone places! the gambia certainly enjoys much more power supply than nigeria, workers get paid on time, crime is minimal and rarely of the serious nature, religious/sectarian violence are unheard of, education has been made available to a high degree, infrastructure and technology are fast developing and it is a gross misrepresentation to say that the wealth of the country has been handed over to brittish and lebanese businessmen while gambians are left to wallow in poverty. up to a certain grade of skilled is labour is highly taxable for foreigners making jobs accessible for qualified gambians and there are lots of wealthy Gambians. in any case since when has it become 'not smart' to encourage investment?? note that although the man has been in power for quite some time, it has been acheived through constitutional means and justified by the development of the country. nigeria is in no better state than the gambia. Ghaddafi on the other hand is a racist lunatic who claims he has no official position in the government.

that verse simply says we should emulate those who came before(moses, abraham etc) and paul instructed timothy to follow his example as he followed Jesus's but does that mean timothy now belonged to paul? paul said "For I have been informed about you, my brethren, by those of the house of Chloe, that there are strifes among you. Now this is what I mean: each of you says, I am of Paul, or I am of Apollos, or I am of Cephas, or I am of Christ. Has Christ been divided up?" 1 cor 1 11-13

Christianity EtcTithes Again! A Detailed Debate With New Arguments Shedding A Different Light. by Kgdavid(op): 5:27pm On Jan 10, 2011
This article is not an attack on the Christian faith but rather an attempt to walk in the freedom Christ has given us.

Arguably one of the most controversial issues in Christianity today is the question of whether to pay a regular tithe or not. A tithe as described in the bible or as practiced in modern day Christianity is the regular payment to a church of a tenth of ones earnings or income. Modern day churches particularly Pentecostal churches are the main advocates of this teaching which has led to their being labeled commercial. But let us take an in-depth look into the principle of tithing beginning with its origin. The Israelites were indeed commanded by God to pay tithes. Leviticus 27:30, 32 makes it clear that “a tenth of everything from the land belongs to the Lord”. The verse goes on to clarify that whether it be livestock or plants, a tenth was to be given unto the Lord. A very important and recurring theme picked out of this verse is the fact that the tithe was purely agricultural. At this time there was a relatively sophisticated monetary system with tangible money in use so it’s rather interesting that God never asked for a tithe on money.

A look at Deut 27:30,32 shows two critical points one of which seems to have been totally ignored in the tithe debate. The tithe had a specific time frame! This verse clearly says that the Israelites were to give their tithe in “the third year”- the year of the tithe. So where then is the scriptural basis for demanding a regular monthly tithe even if Christians were mandated to pay tithes at all? There is no such backing in the scriptures. The second point that we note from this verse is that the tithe had specific recipients. Verse 12 says that the tithe was to be given to the Levites, the alien, the orphan and the widow. These exact four categories of tithe recipients are repeated in verse14 of the same chapter. This shows an emphasis on the specific groups of people to benefit from tithe. Interestingly this list does not include pastors. Sure, some would argue that todays pastors are symbolic Levites but there are a few reasons why this line of thinking simply is not rational. Firstly if the structures of the Old Testament temple and the modern day church are held to be parallel and equivalent (which they are not) then the rank of pastor is actually not equivalent to that of the Levite but rather to that of the priest. As we have already seen in the scriptures, the priests were not entitled to any allocation from the tithe and therefore even if the church was to claim to be the symbolic temple, the pastor, the symbolic priest, is not entitled to a tithe.

In any case, the Old Testament temple and the modern day church are not at all similar institutions either by protocols or scripture. Since Jesus came and fulfilled the law, Christians do not live subject to the law but rather in obedience to the Holy Spirit. In the New Testament we are told that our bodies are the temples of God and Jesus is our high priest. There are now no Levites. Interestingly, tithes are mentioned just once in the New Testament any without any direct bearing to the importance of tithing in Christianity. In Matt 23:23 Jesus condemns the Pharisees for giving a tenth of their spices while neglecting the weightier matters of the law. This verse has now been bandied as proof that Jesus endorsed tithing since He said the Pharisee should have practiced it without neglecting the other issues. However it is important to note that at the time of this incident Jesus had not yet died and thus Christianity was not yet being practiced and therefore the Jews were still required to live by the law. More critically, observe that the tithe the Pharisee was quoted as giving was again agricultural in nature i.e. spices. The Pharisee also paid his tithe not to any church but to the temple. Therefore if this incident is proof that Jesus endorsed tithing, then it also follows that He endorsed tithing to the temple which of course would be normal at that time. After Jesus died and the law passed away (another topic entirely) the church was formed with a different structure from the temple without being the replacement for the temple. All teachings on giving during this period focus on whole hearted free will giving. So in conclusion I am saying that tithing is NOT a requirement for Christians and even if it was it is been done in a totally wrong way. However giving still forms a large part of Christian life.

going by everything i have read so far it is clear that since tony uranta, who has been acused of following them to the hotel, has since been qouted as denying involvement and since sng is saying the offer was made and turned down at the villa, the hotel part of this story in all liklihood did not occur. i fail to understand wat scene would have been created had they refused to collect the money in the car park if indeed that part of the story did occur. if they could turn the money down in their hotel rom without any incident then wat incident would have been created by saying no to orubebe while at the parking lot? would he have attacked them for refusal or would they have entered into a war of words?? that part of the story is highly dubious.
PoliticsRe: The $50,000 Bribe Saga: Did Jonathan Try To Bribe SNG? by Kgdavid(m): 1:06pm On Dec 01, 2010
well there are so many loose ends on this story but i will draw the conclusions that since
1.sng has denied ever receiving any money, the amount beiong quoted might not be the actual amount offered.
2. sng might have misunderstood the offer of transport money as a bribe and thus misrepresented it to the media until that lawyer guy came up with the those embarrassing eight points coupled with the vehemnt denial from GEJ's people. this theory is supported by the fact that sng took days to clarify the fact that they did not ever collect any money nor did was the money offered a bribe.

it is therefore highly likely that sng were indeed offered some amount of cash as transport money(practically goodwill money) which, due to their misplaced sense of political relevance, they misconstrued to be a bribe amd then realising their mistake have finally come out to clear the issue.
I love female football. The sleek passes and the deft moves. The dribbles and the tackles. All the works really makes female football quite appealing.

Then the goals. Oh, female footballers never plays drab matches. They paint the matches RED with goals. The Germans, the Brazilians, the United States and even the Nigerian girls, all are super strikers!

However the monotony of the female football goal celebration is a big minus!. Save for the running around, the pointing to the sky and occasional dance steps pioneered by the African teams, the celebration lacks passion like that of boys and men!

Now Imagine a double digit goal margin match and none of the female footballers pull off her jersey to celebrate, or slide on the turf face down. Come on, If Ayila can pump in six goals like Messi, she should be able to celebrate sliding, face down like Messi. Imagine the Germans with over 20 goals removing their Jerseys to reveal inscriptions and tattoos like Kaka,

What happened to what men can do?

Come on girls, Celebrate as in CELEBRATE, remove your Jerseys, slide on the turf, bump chest fiercely, jump over the boards, run around like Adebayor, then sliiiiiiiide pumping your chest,
It's good for the Camera, it's good for business, its super for marketing,

Abeg, beg the female footballers to CELEBRATE,
haha lol that definitely will increase their number of fans
