Christianity EtcRe: Is Taking Alcohol Responsibly A Sin ? by kimco(m): 10:22pm On Sep 03, 2019

Nowhere is it written that they were drunk on ALCOHOL.

Remember, one can be drunk on water.
Did you read what I wrote well? I'm saying the drunk used in post i quoted was not that of Alcohol but rather past participle of drink. Please read the original quote again to better understand me

Let us see if truly all wine mentioned in the Bible are alcoholic. Kindly read the below passage.

John 2:1-11 King James Version (KJV)
1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knewwink the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
10And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

Verse 10 says the bad wine is brought out and served to people after they have WELL DRUNK. The governor of the wedding was surprised that in this case, the good wine was brought out last after people have WELL DRUNK.

To you guys who say it was alcoholic wine that Jesus miraculously gave at the wedding, what you are saying is that when people were totally drunk and wasted, Jesus now gave them MORE. He gave them more so that those who will drive home will have accident. grin

No buddy, he gave them more fruit juice. Read the passage below which talks about alcoholic wine. Look at how the bi le described it's effect which is exactly how one feels after drinking alcohol

Proverbs 23:31-35
31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

When you say it was alcoholic wine Jesus miraculously turned water into, what you are saying is that Jesus exposed those people to start beholding strange women and say junk as seen in verse 33 above.

Can you now see how wrong you are? The Bible not only kicks against drinking alcohol, it also says we shouldn't look at it as seen in verse 31@bixton @mcval @neddstark
This is jux a simple correction. The drunk here is a past participle of drink not an adjective, ie: drunk on alcohol. Thank You.

How stupid can a person be? How did she not see how bad this will reflect on the government and the president?

"I used to live in a 1 bedroom apartment but now see what the lord has done for me"

You are basically telling the world you got rich overnight after you got employed by the president. That is not a good public image for anyone involved. Or you thought because you mentioned God and blessings you were safe from your stupidity?

And those supporting her....nonsense...grow up

okay i will glady explain to you,it wasnt accounted anywhere in the bible that david was Gods beggotten son,but it was said that jesus is Gods begotten son and remember that jesus was said to be son of david. jesus needed an earthly passage which God gave through davids lineage.Remember thou son of david. God the father, son(jesus)and the holyghost. thank you.
And who are these people who wrote dat he is the begotten son? Again, proof of the bible testaments is not the bible. What proof do you have that Jesus is God?

This I am not so sure about. I expect part of it was a desire to differentiate Jesus of the New Testament from the Joshuas mentioned in the Old Testament when translating the Bible into other languages.

Interestingly, I believe that to this day, Jesus and Joshua are still written the same way in Greek.
Yes they are, according to my research Joshua of old was written as Jesus den.

Now this is what im thinking. Jesus never once mentioned that dere is power in his name(unless im wrong here) Saying by the mention of his name knees will bow etc is not proof that if invoked his name holds supernatural power. Its jux like saying messi name strike fear into players...dats true...but it doesnt mean if messi doesnt play the players will continue to fumble vrs if he actually played. I think the whole, in Jesus' name has been greatly misconstrued. Name of Jesus will not avert a point blank bullet ma guy...lets stop this once and for all.

I'm a bit confused as to what you're asking here. Greek was the most notable language because it was the language that would best be understood by the highest number in the early church. Many of the Jewish members of the church, even if we relegate ourselves to the Jewish territories, knew Greek to at least some degree (the Septuagint, a translation of the New Testament into Greek, was quite popular among Jews at the time), and obviously the Greek converts would speak Greek.
Thanks for the education boss. I have a fair idea of the whole thing now. But here is the fact.. and the problem i have. Even before Jesus came into the picture the name yashua was lesous in greek, isaiah was esias jacob as iakobos and so forth..not jux the text but the name translation was completely into greek. So how come joshua is joshua still, yet Jesus remains Jesus today? Why is Joshua not Jesus now...why the distinction? Why do we still maintain the latin name for the spiritual messiah and not for the physical one?

RandomGuy48:
Well, some of them were most certainly educated, like Paul. But even for those who may have been uneducated at the time Jesus called them, they absolutely could have learned how to write Greek afterwards.
Could have learnt to write from where? This is a stretch to take into account. I dont doubt dey cud have spoken the language but writing is on a whole diff level. I doubt they had time to go about learning to write

RandomGuy48:
but, of course, there was another possibility. When writing, they could have gotten someone who was fluent in Greek to help them out (either by direct translation or in serving a more editorial role). There would certainly have been other Christians available who could do that.
This one seems more plausible. I will get behind this train of thought. Much better to imagine and very possible what might have happened. If they were indeed those who wrote it.

I am not sure why it doesn't make sense. Knowledge of Greek was common among Jews at the time, with some Jews being far more competent in Greek than in Hebrew. Meanwhile, the non-Jewish didn't know Hebrew very well but understood Greek just fine. Writing in Greek, therefore, would render the New Testament scriptures understandable to the greatest number of people back then, as it would be understandable to both Jews and non-Jews alike.
It doesnt make sense...how was greek the most notable den and for christ sakes why how did the writers come to speak and write in greek? Iirc most were not that educated even and hardly well travelled.

Help me understand well bros.

Did you do a fact check on the American legend called MICHEAL JACKSON? Who amongst the list of "legends" you mentioned up there can compare with Micheal Jackson in terms of record sales and global reach?

The dead dude is still making millions in death.

Don't ever, I repeat don't ever compare the Americans with the Brits in music making and record sales.
The USA is soo much bigger than the UK, also has diversity in music. Michael is a legend and he made use of the great opportunity given him. The US musicians are great...but no ignorant person shud say the uk Mucisians are crap..ed sheeran, adele, sam smith, elton, beattles, queen. The greatest rock bands are all from from the UK. For a little kingdom to compete with the USA is no joke...they hold their own a lot. They are wonderful musicians...even their old women sing like angels.
Christianity EtcRe: Does "In The Name Of Jesus" Really Work? by kimco(op): 11:34am On Aug 17, 2019
RandomGuy48:
It is true Jesus was not in the original scriptures. But neither was Yahushua.

The New Testament scriptures are all in Greek. The name given to Jesus in Greek is Iesous, which is the name found in Scripture. However, there are multiple (though very similar) Hebrew names that all get written as Iesous in Greek, such as Yeshua and Yehoshua. Thus, it is not possible to know for sure which of these was the original Hebrew name of Jesus, because we have only the Greek version of the name and there are multiple names that can be rendered as Iesous.

But does it matter which it is? As noted, the writers of the New Testament were all comfortable using Iesous when writing in Greek. None of them felt that it was critical to use the original Hebrew name, whatever it was.
Are you telling me the original texts were written in greek?

I agree with you about Americans accepting crap music, especially rappers. Outcast once had highest selling rap album in a year like that. Winning lots of awards. They have good music, but as rappers outcast is wack. It's even worse now, geez. I thank God I fell in love with rap in the 90s,I heard good rap music and great albums. I shake my head to these crap they throw around today.
You mentioned Wu Tang and Jcole while talking about wacky,I don't get your message, can you please restate the point you want to make.
Wutang and Jcole mumble rappers? I give you opportunity of doubt that I don't understand what you meant.
Outkast had good rap...just a diff style. Funky rap. Not every rap should be about bullets and hardcore life. Appreciate diversity...it was really great.

Name is different from title.

There is no point here. Who said anything about pronouncing things the exact way the Hebrews do? We are talking about using the Hebrew name of the Saviour of the world. I don't know what you are talking about. Yes, he was not the only one. But he is the only one who gave his life for the redemption of man. It is why the Messiah is attached to his name.
Who told you the messiah was attached to his name? Lol dude i dnt think people in his tym went about calling him Jesus christ like we do. A few people called him dat in few occasions jux like a few people might have called david, messiah on a few glorious ocassions.

Thank you. So you see that a Hebrew might vocalize it as Mashiach, but an English vocalize it as "Messiah"? Are they the same pronunciation?

That's the point. We don't have to pronounce things the exact way the Hebrews do. What's important is that the word is used for the right person. And it's not as if the Messiah was the only one bearing such name in the Bible. It is a name other people bore too.
The problem however is dat when de power dwells in a name i seem to find it odd dat the original name not be used. Had it been jux a label dat wud have been fine but not when you invoke power through that name. Then we have a problem. Don't you agree?

You ve seen the point dear. No one is certain of the actual pronunciation.

But we are not Hebrews, so we can use the pronunciation common in English. Even when God's word was written in Greek, they did not insist on translating Jesus as Yehoshua.
Is it not the other way round? Yahsua was hebrew. The letter J is not in the aramic alphabet if im not wrong. The name Jesus came later. So the translation was from Yahsua to Jesus and not the other way round.

I'm so disappointed at the rate you belittle yourself, unless you ain't an African.
I beg to differ. The proof is in the pudding. England are a much better team. I have watched england women's team grow to become a world class team while i have watch super falcons degrade from world beaters to this best third placed team. My very own black queens used to be assured a world cup slot...now nothing happens with them. The answer is simple. Attention. The teams that are growing have given attention to the women and now the old teams who didnt have to try so hard now have to sweat out a win. See U.S.A vrs Spain. And China being a hollow shell.

Its not belittling yourself, its calling a spade a spade. When you depend on players outside your country to win trophies for you, you end up with a piss poor team who cannot string passes to each other because they dont know each other's play style. Meanwhile the teams you play against are the ones training your so called superstars. Forever you shall be beneath them. Unless you train your superstars your self. Develop your football and you will see he glory of african futball shine through. This is only truth, nothing more. Between these two teams, England was clearly the better team. There was no way cameroun who struggled in group stages could beat them.

In all my years of console emulation AMD has failed me in performance and in several places. NVidia has dedicated developers writing drivers for its Gpu and sdk(s) for developers to create games with so that optimizations can happen you gpu cards, you're free to think what you want, but this is just fact when it comes to performance Nvidia will always have it locked down. Vulkan is the most place where AMD has a good performance and some GPU like the Rx 480 have managed to get a good performance , but Nvidia esp its same competitor will blow it our of the waters easily. I have been using Nvidia since MX440 on desktops and ATI Rage till Radeon till AMD took over ATI, and Nvidia has always been the consistent winner hands down. OpenGL performance Nvidia is your default, DirectX Nvidia and AMD perform but Nvidia still comes out on top, Vulkan now that's where the tie is.
so again i say...give me dese facts....benchmarks will do...direct competitors and nothing more.

I disagree sir...i prefer amd gpus, the only reason i bought a gtx 970 after selling my r9 290 is cos i bought a reference one which was loud, hot and power hungry. My psu was struggling...wanted to buy an aftermarket one but for the power requirement. So i got a direct competitor with better power req.

I never overclock my gpus cos i dnt have good cooling in my chasis plus my psu. They usually come overclocked or not, the gtx 970 did come overclocked
