My 2009 Toyota Corolla is not shifting to gear 4. My mechanic noticed it when he changed the fuel pump,

I have changed the transmission oil but the issue persists.

Gear one, two and three changes normally and the car is driving smoothly.

I don't know what the challenge is

If possible, please recommend a very good transmission mechanic in Abuja that i can visit?

When is it enough to fight back ? So my husband and I have this routine of going out on Sundays to an outlet close by. It’s a good car. Ensure you buy a good well maintained unit. I’m in Abuja and I fix them

Bros no vex, Corollas are 130HP. Even the newer models, apart from the 2021 models with 2.0 engines that give out 168HP. In older models only Corolla XRS is 158HP and its discontinued.... No give us false hope abeg.

If only Corollas could even give out 150HP, this story would be dofferent.

As we were fueling ...a 2003 Toyota Corolla was behind us ...and a neat blue Peugeot 504 bestline in also branched to Fill up.. I didn't see who drove it because it had a little tint and it's glasses were Up.....

Paid the attendant and we zoomed off every body knows the 300 is a very fast car!!

The road leading to the airport was very wide ...smooth and OMG !...
He floored the 300 to about 110kmhr cause I was sitting in front ..enjoy some jamz with its AC...

Then I now pictured the corolla we had left ... In the wing mirror well... I lost interest and we were chatting..
The next moment the corolla disappeared and was replaced with the Peugeot... It was catching up fast

It had dusted the corolla

Well, not surprised The fuvking Europeans always keep doing this shits on the road !

My guy noticed as it was horning to overtake and a Kia cerato was Infront of us..

I told my guy to give it a gap... We increased to 120kmhr and over took the Kia ... The next moment...it overtook the Kia also
Still tailing us..

I just told him ... U no dey respect your elders...

And we gave it space .....
And the legend roared past us...

A Chrysler 300 Isn’t a fast car. Except when it has the V8.

That said, the reason why the Corolla was over taken is because the driver is scared or the car has some issues going on with it. A Corolla also has max 160hp and no more than 150ib.ft which is similar power ratings as the Peugeot and it’s an automatic, while the Peugeot is a manual transmission.

An automatic transmission takes so much power.


That said, don’t engage in road racing, a lot of Uyo inhabitants behave like sheep and would rather cross or walk into a road and be expecting you to dodge them or slow down for them.

I know the highlander is a durable car and all cos I’ve owned the first gen highlander and my wife currently uses a second gen. Considering the 4Runner and gx cos it won’t make sense having 2 highlanders

How does the 4Runner and the gx handle? Does the 4runner have 3 row seats?

Which drives the smoothest? Which retains value most? Which has more power?

Fuel and maintenance costs aren’t much of a consideration for me…

4runner =GX just underneath the skin
It doesn’t have 3rd row, both are truck and have body on frame chassis so don’t expect any sportiness in them. They ride like a boat and a tank. No body talks about those trucks and talk about fuel economy or cheap maintenance. Let’s face it, they’re not cheap to own or maintain but neither would break your bank to maintain. I’d actually go for a GX cos it’s more refined and more powerful and larger.

You need a technician to inspect and evaluate then you can proceed from there. The location of the car also matters

It’s much easier for a dealership to replace an engine with another engine because it’s cheaper and quicker.

Rebuilding an engine is a rigorous physical task which also takes time and may require long waiting time for parts to arrive.
Rebuilding an engine gives the technician opportunity to observe and detect worn out components and factory flaws in the manufacture of that engine and make amendments or use parts with higher degree of tolerance which will meet or usually exceed manufacturers specifications in the manufacture of that engine.

If a brand new engine from a crate cost $25,000, a rebuild using a much higher quality aftermarket components than the manufacturer actually used in building that engine may be $30,000-35,000 for parts and labour.

If a simple engine swap takes 10hours, a rebuild could take 70-120hours.


If an engine from manufacturer produces max 200hp and 210ib.ft brand new, a rebuilt engine from higher quality materials could be anywhere from 220hp 240ib.ft or even way more.


If factory manufactured engine have a lifespan of 10years, a properly rebuilt engine may last longer than that if components of higher tolerances and quality are used.

There can be some "un-disclosed problems" associated with "clean title" cars from auction. Most clean title cars at auctions are sold by private sellers and may not carry full disclosure. If you want clean title, better to go to a dealership although price will be about 100 percent more than auction. The issue is that Nigerians like clean title but want bargain prices. Accident cars with salvage title sold by insurance carry full disclosure of everything wrong with the vehicle and when properly fixed, it can be a good deal.
The smoke can be from a burnt gasket and shouldn't
be difficult to fix but ensure the car is towed from the port to a very good mechanic and not driven. You may not need to buy a new engine but ensure you get a good specialist to fix it. It will cost some good money though but cheaper than buying a new engine.

I know someone who bought a clear title certified preown car from a dealership in US and had it shipped down only for the car to start developing issues and when the engine was opened it was obvious the car had been reworked albeit in a shoddy manner abroad.

Get a copy of their EIA report you need to extensively study it.

Also you need an environmental expert to assist you study it and explain where you have challenges.

The EIA report gives detail on everything you need to know about the project, it’s risks, it’s benefit and mitigation measures in place for any thing.
