Helo car talk please I need help. 


My car is a 2003 Toyota Solara automatic 2.4L I4.


Had the car for almost two years and no major issues.


However today as I was travelling returning from Xmas break after having covered about 350 miles the car started acting up.


It started while I was driving I noticed the car just revved suddenly and the RPM shot up to 5000.it was only for an instant It soon returned to normal. 


Later on I noticed the car wasn't accelerating in proportion to how I depress the gas pedal. It seemed too slow for the level I depressed the pedal. I soon stopped to have lunch , stated the car and it moved normal.


However later at an army checkpoint after I stopped, the car would no longer move no matter how I depress the pedal. put the gear on R, D, 2, L the car doesn't move.  The engine just revs. 


Put the gear in P, Switched off the engine  after about 10 seconds restrated the engine and engaged D car jerks forward abit and starts moving... if I reduce speed due to pot holes or other cars it re accelerates sluggishly till it finally accelerates no more no matter how I depress the pedal . 


If I engage all gears at this point it doesn't move even reverse . Till I switch off the  car wait about 10 seconds before I restart then the car moves only to repeat tell whole cycle again.


Sometimes when it manages to move the RPM will be so high for the current speed as shown in the pics below.


1. I checked the ATF and it's full. No blackish colour no burnt smell.


2. I have never worked on the gear before . Neither did I have any engine work doNE recently.


3. No CEL illuminated on the dash.


4. I bought fuel some minutes before this started ...could this be bad fuel?


I was able to manage the car stop and start till I got to jalingp and parked it at a friends house and took a bus home (which also broke down to . I'm posting this from some bush in the north east of Nigeria )


Please would like help as to what are the possible causes of this issue and how to solve them as I don't trust all these mechs. Especialy since its far from home. Thank you.

I use total classic oil 20w 50
engine is 1mz -fe v6
checked the oil level its normal and there is water in the radiator..
there is little rattling noise coming from the engine. it started when the oil indicator came up

I had a discussion with a friend of mine sometimes about cars and fuel consumption, then he made mention of reducing his car fuel consumption by putting some balls of camphor in his car fuel tank. He said he has been doing this in a while and the level at which his car consumes fuel really dropped. i did a light research on this on the internet and got few points.
Please i need some more confirmation from the house....my questions are as follows:
1. Has anyone else ever tried this and it worked out
2. If it does work....does it work for all car engine types: 4cylinders, V6 etc
3. What volume of camphor should be added in the fuel tank.
4. Does it have any side-effects.
Kindly share your thoughts on these if it actually works well.

Compliments of the season to you. I have been following your thread almost from your first post and will like to say am very impressed with the level of progress made so far.

Please, I scan my car (2002/03 Toyota camry) last night and throw these three codes:
1-P0420
2-P1128
3-P0446


I noticed sluggish movement and excessive fuel consumption. Fuel tank is now covering 320-350 miles.


Pls what is the estimated cost to fix these problems so I can bring the patient to your clinic.

He wasn't being fair on the highlander. He posted the picture of 2015 Hyundai Tucson as against the 2002 model highlander.

So regular maintenance is what makes toyota good on the road no wonder they said toyota is a poor man's car, have you ever used any of Korea or German cars before ? Try one it if you have professional as mechanic you will forget toyota.
When car body is too lite no doubt the little fuel consumption but low comfort and body guide defective so only very few toyota products can be proofed elegant. I used more than ten of them.

You didn't post the right pictures then. You were comparing 2009 model Tucson to 2002 Highlander...

Tucson 2009 pic above and highlander below.. Be honest with yourself...highlander beats Tucson aesthetically n performance wise.

Comparing Toyota Highlander to Hyundai Tucson is like comparing sleep to death.

Toyota Highlander is for old men in their 80's.
Hyundai Tucson is for people who knows what's up

I have driven the two.
I drove Toyota Highlander from New York to Chicago, i stopped for 2 times to allow the car get some air into his brain.

I drove Hyundai Tucson from Ohio to Alabama which is like 24 hour drive, i never stopped on the way except to get gas or buy some food.
I arrived Alabama in just 20 hours.

Both are OK but apart from second handed value Hyundai can stay longer than toyota without problems if you notice Hyundai users.
[b]Toyota problem start from sand protector, bumper and absorber as a result of bad road that is why people don't use toyota long like Benz and othe[/b]rs.

Meanwhile it was mechanic that pushes people to by Toyota but since I stopped using toyota I don't go to mechanic frequently again.
