Mjshexy:
Christians have always been the target angry
Because they have refused to wake up to reality. It's not everything you handle with prayers. Arm yourself, match action with action, then you will see the enemy becoming afraid and running from you. Even the children of Israel in the Bible went to war against their enemies harassing them even as they equally prayed and credited their victories to GOD. These Islamists who are enemies of the Christians in Nigeria have over time understood that Nigerian Christians are cowards and will never retaliate or fight back, that is why they (the jihadists) continue all these attacks and harassment. The day Nigerian Christians will wake up (like what happened in Central Africa Republic and South Sudan)to match fire to fire and put fear in the hearts of the enemies, that is when all these nonsenses will stop. European and American Christians can never tolerate all these incessant harassment from the satanic Islamists. They (Europeans and Americans) will rather match against the camps of the enemies in armed combat. Nigeria Christians wake up before it's too late!

CultureRe: Meet The Longest Reigning Monarch In Rivers State Oba Of Ogbaland by Kirigidi(m): 9:24pm On Nov 21, 2020
gidgiddy:
Listen, there is nothing wrong in being influenced by Bini. Bini was once a huge empire and was bound to influence others. The only thing is a bit funny is when someone claims Bini ancestry when the evidence on the ground says otherwise. Take this king of Ogba for example. His father and grandfather all had Igbo surnames and probably spoke Igbo as their first language, but they will say that they are Bini men. Even if one can explain the language, how does one explain name change? Rivers state is not that far from Edo state. How did a group of Bini people travel that short a dista only to forget their Bini surnames and and language? Someone has to explain that one to me
I want you to also consider this: Virtually all the Emirs in Hausaland are Fulanis. How many of these Fulanis still have Fulani names? How many can still even speak and understand Fulani language fluently? As it is today many Fulanis have lost their native/indigenous names, what you hear them bear today are Arab and Hausa names, e.g. Muhammad, Sanusi, Abubakar, Musa, Suleiman, Adamu, etc. Many Fulanis as at today cannot speak Fulfude and have now adopted the language of the Hausas they conquered, and all these happened within a period of about 200 years they entered Hausaland. My point is language is very dynamic; it can be picked up and can also be abandoned. Moreover, in many cases it is the ruling houses that came from Benin to rule over a people surrounded by Igboid groups. It is therefore natural for the ruling families over several centuries to adopt the names and language of the people they came to rule.

otokx:
Some Rivers rulers do not stay in their palaces prefering to reside in Port Harcourt.
What you don't understand is the lasting impacts of centuries of Benin Empire's domination and colonization of much of Southern Nigeria. Before the arrival of the British, Benin imperial rule cut across several ethnic groups (Yoruba, Igbo, Ijaw, Urhobo-Isoko, Ishan, Itsekiri, Afemai, Ukuani, Ogba, Egenni, etc), all of which saw Benin city as their traditional, ancestral and political capital irrespective of the diversity in tongues. Many of their kings in the ancient times were either Benin princes or were crowned by/or given authority to rule over their people by Benin monarchs. That is why till today the real indigenes of Lagos even though they speak Yoruba language and bear Yoruba names still claim Benin origin. The same thing is applicable to the Igboid groups in Delta State who will tell you to your face that they descended from Benin not Igbo. Likewise Itsekiris even when they speak a Yoruboid language will still tell you that they are from Benin. Also many of the Ijaw communities in Delta State up to this very day still claim that they came from ancient Benin Empire. This is majorly because many of their ruling houses and kings in those days came from Benin; style of kingship, royal regalia and symbols of authority were bestowed on them by the Binis. That is what centuries of overlordship by Benin can produce. You don't have to blame or insult them and it's not something you can change. It is their heritage, history and culture.

Lol in essence get off your butt and take initiative. Zamfara got the license and took advantage of the program in mining like other could of done. Has anyone heard of the federal government denying any state license to do the same thing? If the ss governor have an issue the supreme court will always be there to settle it.
Has the Federal Government granted artisans(individuals) in the Niger Delta to be mining oil and gas with the South-South states buying the mined oil and gas from the artisans as presently obtainable in the North? Artisans that are presently mining oil in the Niger Delta are been tagged "oil bunkers" and "illegal refinery operators", while their counterparts in Zamfara State are been organised into a so-called "cooperative" by the Federal Government under Buhari as they mine their resources on their own. The Northerners have taken us for granted for too long, and one day we Niger Deltans will resist all these cheating to protect our resources even if it means armed fight.

What of Isoko that are bearing the same names with Urhobo, same traditions, custom, food, marriage rites and speak a very similar language yet they said they are not Urhobo? Urhobo allowed them be.
CultureRe: Why Ikwerres Are Not Igbo - The Logic Behind It by Kirigidi(m): 9:26pm On Nov 15, 2020
Afam4eva:
Urhobo and Isoko are not as different as you put it. Maybe we'll need someone from these areas to shed more light. However, i think the difference is similar to the difference between Ikwerre and any other Igbo sub-group. Ikwerre have a different language that is not Igbo and that language is Ikwerre.

The question of whether Ikwerre is Igbo is not a a question of arithmetic though I get your point and nobody have argued against the fact that Ikwerre and Igbo are mutualy intelligible but it does not make Ikwerre Igbo if they don't want to be. However, Ikwerre is an Igboid language whether they like it or not. We must learn the distinction between language and ethnic identity. The Irish, Scottish and Welsh now speak as much English as England but it doesn't still make them English. I'm not comparing Ikwerre and Igbo with these countries. I'm only using it to describe the distinction between language and ethnicity.
Urhobo and Isoko understand themselves to a great extent because their languages are very similar. I'm Urhobo but whenever an Isoko person speaks I can easily understand even though I'm not living in Isoko land. The major difference is the intonation.
CultureRe: Why Ikwerres Are Not Igbo - The Logic Behind It by Kirigidi(m): 9:17pm On Nov 15, 2020
michelz:
The case of Isoko and Urhobo is quite different.
They have very distinct languages that are not mutually intelligible.
Not same with Ikwerre. Ikwerres don't have any other language apart from Igbo.
If I may ask,how do you identify an American without asking him or her? How do you identify a Yoruba,an Hausa,Fulani or an Igala man without asking? How do you identify an Igbo man or woman without asking?
If I say and argue that 1+1 equals to 3,you know obviously it is wrong but would you force me to accept that the correct answer is 2? You'd probably leave me to my delusion.
You are wrong, Isoko and Urhobo understand themselves when they speak. We have the same mode of greeting, our traditional marriage rites are the same, the same traditional food and mode of dressing, etc. I'm Urhobo but if an Isoko person speaks I will understand him or her. Most of the traditional Christian songs use in worship in Churches throughout Urhoboland are in Isoko language and we understand the songs.
CultureRe: Why Ikwerres Are Not Igbo - The Logic Behind It by Kirigidi(m): 9:05pm On Nov 15, 2020
michelz:
Your point is very clear.
However, what doesn't sit right is intentional revisionism of history.
Ikwerres don't speak an Igboid language; they speak Igbo. In fact, they speak raw unadulterated Igbo even considering the various "non-Igbo" ethnic groups they have mingled with for years.
When you speak Igbo, your culture, customs and the names of your villages are Igbo, your surname is Igbo, then only a fool would need to be told that he is Igbo.
I don't begrudge them of claiming to come from wherever, but the burden lies on them to keep on explaining to an Hausa,Yoruba or other foreigners how they are not Igbo but migrated several centuries ago from who knows where.
The situation between Igbo and Ikwerre is very similar to that between Urhobo and Isoko. Urhobo and Isoko share virtually the same language, names, culture, tradition, food, mode of greeting, custom, etc, yet Isoko insisted of been a separate ethnic group and they were allowed to be.

Please bear in mind while reading this that those caught slaves and war captives were fellow yorubas.
Yorubas never conquered another ethnic group but themselves
sometimes I wonder about it. All their conquests and battles took place only among themselves: e.g Ekiti vs Ibadan, Owu vs Oyo, Egba vs Ijebu, etc. There are no records of Yorubas fighting against and defeating other tribes. Why? Is it that they are cowards and are afraid of other ethnic groups?

Never sighted anyone in all the pictures wearing "isiagu" attires or something similar, does it mean "isiagu" cloth is a recent attire/design among the Igbos? Similarly, in many pictures Europeans took of Hausa/Fulani women in northern Nigeria during pre-colonial and colonial era they (Hausa Fulani women) weren't putting on "hijabs". This also goes to show that their widespread wearing of "hijab" today was more of post-colonial adoption likely due to the influence of modern mass media which propagated the fashion sense of Muslim women in the Arab world.
