PoliticsRe: Subsidy Payment: Finance Ministry Sacks Akintola Williams & Other Auditors by klas(m): 1:30pm On Apr 23, 2012
@naijaking1 The highlighted below was why I thought you called Akintola Williams tribal. If you didn't mean it that way, so be it. Cheers

naijaking1: The war against corruption has been started by the GEJ administration. To all those trying to detract or divert the attention of the brave women soldiers in the cabinet, beware.
It take guts, baaalllsss, and real mojo to openly disgrace a national icon like Akintola Williams AW: a company that has since passed its prime as an accounting firm. I say good job Ngozi, and GEJ. To challange AW in Nigeria must have been like challanging a rotten Goliath on its own terriotory

(I challenge AW or its loud mouth tribal supporters to release figures implicating either the minister of the president if you have such in your possesion. Don't suffer in vain, fight back and release your own bombshell for the full benefit of Nigerians).

Shame to Demdem and his group calling for Ngozi's removal a few days ago, they must have had a suspicion of her intended action. Well, carryon Ngozi carryon, clean house well, well. Spare no sacred cows, because their beef is the most juicy!

@naijaking1. So Deloitte Akintola Williams is a tribal firm? Ernst & Young, kpmg, pricewaterhouse, panel Kerr Forster are what? White man firms? It may interest you to note that Akintola left the firm almost thirty years ago after having led the place for more than 30 years also. He is over 90 now.The firm under him established branches not only in Nigeria but many west and east/central African countries no wonder it is hub of Deloitte operation in west and central Africa.

For your information too, Deloitte is 2nd largest professional service in the world, so the firm has not passed its prime.

@olajide07 and kobojunkie. In their positions as verification auditors for pppra, Deloitte and adekanola firms are just like extension or field staff of pppra. They work with live data (must be present when ship are discharging at the jetties and sign discharge sheet) not on historical data that external auditors work with.

To a very large extent, it can be said that pppra head-office and ministry of finance in abuja rely principally on their work to make payment for subsidy both as 'field staff' and independent firms. If there is any false claim of subsidy without discharge and it is proved that they signed the false discharge sheet (which they must have also confirmed the second time as required by subsidy claims procedure), then, they are not only negligent but criminally liable.
PoliticsRe: Subsidy Payment: Finance Ministry Sacks Akintola Williams & Other Auditors by klas(m): 9:10pm On Apr 22, 2012
If it is proved that marketers claimed subsidy without importing fuel, then Deloitte and adekanola firms will be culpable. Not as the external auditors to PPPRA (which Deloitte is) but as verification auditors (consultants) to pppra on fuel importation.

The procedure for fuel importation and subsidy claims requires that ship cannot discharge fuel at jetty without the presence of the verification auditors (Deloitte & adekanola) to sign discharge sheet showing quantity discharged. The document is sent to pppra for processing.

The processed documents are sent by pppra to Ministry of Finance for further processing leading to payment. The discharge stock sheet is again sent back to the verification auditors by the ministry of finance to confirm that it was the document they earlier signed before payment is made. So unless there is collussion, unilateral false claim by marketer is a bit difficult.

olajide_07: At this point I beg to ask is it because they released the initial report about the fraud in the NNPC that was with the minister of finance to the public or they were clamouring for a release and for actions to be based on their report, or because people got first hand information about the audit of the NNPC because, I know, its not because of over payments of or on subsidy, (in my opinion an audit report is a submission of financial activities based on what has happened in an organisation over a previous period of a year or years by those running the system/structure ) they are not the auditor general office that should be responsible for their weekly or monthly audit, nor the accountant general office that is responsible for payment, of these subsidies, they are just independent auditing firms looking into the past activities of those running the organisation based on standard accounting principles being used.
The work done by Deloitte and the other firm on fuel importation is not the normal end of year financial audit but routine everyday on the spot verification of fuel importation at the ports just like internal auditing. It is more of consultancy than auditing. Infact, they would need to deploy more non-accounting personnel than accounting ones for the assignment.

Note that Deloitte is not just an auditing/accounting firm but multi-disciplinary group like Pricewaterhouse, kpmg ernest & young. that is why they can advertise their business or print calendars. Some things that are forbidden by ICAN for instance

Why was Akintola Williams' name suddenly localised when it came to wrong doing? When they were appointed and during the probe, govt officials defended them as very reputable international firm called Deloitte. This is even the first time that the other firm - Adekanola would be mentioned in connevtion with the subdidy. These govt officials sef.

RomanceRe: Can I show her this thread?: In Love With A Young Single Mother.. by klas(m): 7:06pm On Apr 08, 2012
If you keep the fact of her being a divorcee away from your family, what will her status in the marriage bann read? How will they not know from there?

If you really want to go ahead with the marriage, be ready to surmount all opposition including your family either by convincing them or rail-roading your way but not by suppression of fact.

Also if she was married for only 24months out of which pregnancy would be for 9 months that mean she left the child at just barely a year of age. It will surely be a very serious matter for a woman to separate from her child of such age. Please probe further.
PoliticsRe: Can ECOWAS Threaten Nigeria To Return To Civilian Rule In Case Of A Coup? by klas(m): 6:18pm On Apr 02, 2012
homerac7: Hmmm...tricky question.

It all depends on how d circumstances and personalities involved are controlled.

ECOWAS? nada! They virtually feed off palm of Nigeria one way or other. They will quickly realign wt present realities.

AU? Nada! They will issue general condemnation and individuals will come congratulating d new regime and secure their interests.

UN? Will huff and puff. Big nations will shout on pages of newspapers but secretly send proxies to secure their interests. They will place sanctions with conditions and exit clauses. Ask for transitional programme to be announced in order to lift certain sanctions. While these are being said, Shell, Chevron, Agip, Total, BP, Conoco, Siemens, BA, Virgin, etc will b doing normal businesses while Ghana, ECOWAS, AU mission in Darfur, Cote d'Ivoire, etc will b receiving arms and military equipment for "missions headed and populated by Nigeria military". No more overseas training for d military due to sanctions but Ghana Defence Institutions will continually admit Nigerian Military for joint excises wt foreign partners.

Bottomline, nothing will happen!
The only informed post so far. It is like asking if UN can force coupists out if they stage one in USA

solbil: you nigerians have a false opinnion of yourselves. Who says the AU cannot do anything. With the backing of SA, the AU can launch a successful millitary campaign against those HIV infested simpletons you call soldiers. This is so possible with our superior fighter jets.
South Africa will fly thousands of kilometers to conquer Nigeria on home soil. grin Another kid with undeserved access to Internet. Even US required bases in middle east friendly countries to attack Iraq and Afghanistan. By the way, the question is about ecowas which SA is not a part.

They forget that they are in the same region with us.Even the south -africans( who far more useful and mightier than ghana) and are used to opposing us,are with us on this after having felt the international might of Nigeria. Ghana are surely, standing on a long thing.
Woe,betides them,if NOI loses this, because of their elusive vote.
It will be covert diplomatic war!
Indeed, ghanaian govt officials are not very smart.
Inferior complex ravaged nation.
Which of these do you believe? That south Africa support NOI candidacy for altruistic reason or that candidate nominated by developing countries will defeat US sponsored candidate in world bank (s)election? If you believe any of these, wake up asap.

South Africa knows that non-us sponsored candidate has no chance in becoming WB head. It has only done this with June 2012 in mind. Remember that the postponed election for AU headship comes up in June. Also recall that Nigeria was the arrow-head of opposition against the candidacy of Mrs Zuma as AU head last month that led to the stalemated election. SA expects rub my back I rub yours scenario when AU reconvenes.

jjjkkkooo: I think dis discussion shld not be laughed. I hv always asked d question in my heart. N4.6Tr from Tax. Yet budget is 4.8Tr. We need to ask d Minister of Finance for explanations.
The tax you pay on your personal and non-registered business income goes to the state of your residence wholly. The tax paid by the registered limited liability companies goes to the federation account from where it is shared by all tiers of government in accordance with revenue allocation formula just like oil money.

You have set the taxes collected nationwide from companies and custom duties all of which are payable to federation account for sharing between federal, states and local goverments against the federal budget only

These dumb legislators are able to get away with sh.it because they know some if not most nigerians are dumber.

Someone above queried why she should stay in the hotel after 56 days. Like seriously? Should she packed into the street when her organisation was yet to provide accomodation as required under her contract just because the fabled 56 days expired. Let the SEC convert the hotel bills they paid after the 56 days to the rent thay would have paid for her house in the excess period.

For those parroting monetisation. Are CBN governor and his deputies, Inspector general of police, efcc chairman, military service chiefs, supreme court judges and others living in their personally rented houses? With the so-called monetisation, why is each member of national assembly having official cars for the so called committe work?

As for the allegation of N850k food in one day. Except that the legislators just want to be sensational, they should provide the details of the diners and the menu.

FoodRe: Is It Disrespectful To Serve A Visitor With Just 1 Piece Of Meat??? by klas(m): 2:37pm On Mar 12, 2012
In the traditional south-west, it will be better to serve two small pieces of meat than one large piece. Though more than one large piece is best. Serving a piece is considered insultive to the guest if he/she is older than you. If the guest is younger than the host and not very close to him/her, the guest may interprete it to mean that the host is not well-off to afford more than a piece of meat and that may lower the respect for the host. respect counts a lot in south west.

PoliticsRe: Abuja Should Have A Mayor And Not A Minister by klas(m): 3:56pm On Mar 10, 2012
KnowAll:
This city was built from the scratch, that is why you cannot compare it with any other city SECONDLY IT HAS NOT GOT A TRADITIONAL RULER. There are suppose to be no indigenious people IN Abuja because they are suppose to have all been re-located to Niger State hence why it should have a mayor. It cannot have a Governor because it is not a state, it is a federal capital territory.
At least for this once, you don't know all. There are traditional rulers not just a ruler in FCT. Ever heard of Ona of Abaji, etsu of bwari, etsu of kuje and that of gwagwalada etc. all these are first class rulers having government funded palaces and fleet of cars with special number plates.

As for relocation to other states, the policy had been stopped since early eighties on account of cost. The current policy is to relocate the indigenes that are in federal city centre (amac) to virgin areas (area councils) with the FCT. FG has been building houses for them in Apo, sherratti, and neighbouring districts.

For all practical purposes, Abuja is the 20th northern state. It is not a no mans land it was planned to be. It is not by accident that all FCT ministers are from the north. Over 90% of the Directors and heads of agencies of FCT come from the north.

On Tuesday, the health minister said SA should not demand for yellow card because Nigeria has been certified free of yellow fever. Is he aware that Nigerians need yellow card to go to neighboring Ghana? Most passengers of luxury buses buy this at the bus park yet they forgot that the manufacturer and batch no of vaccine on the centre page of the document is verifiable by the authorities.

The day the Ghana authority will use this to embarrass our citizens (in pursuance of hidden diplomatic interest),we will start shouting again.

For those salivating over possible take-over of south African business interest in case of break of diplomatic relation, pls wake up. It does not work like that. When Nigeria broke diplomatic relation with France and isreal in the sixties, their companies still continued in Nigeria. Even the diplomatic spat with britain that led to recall of high commissioners of both countries in 1976 and 1984 still left their economic interests intact.
