What would have happened? During Babangidä regime, Zik was erroneously reported dead and the President office released condolence message.

It turned out to be a hoax. Duro Onabule (the chief press secretary to the president) that released the statement still continued in office kampe.

In plain English, does University of Ibadan means the university belongs to Ibadan? There exist State of California in US yet it is not different from Texas State which was even an independent republic up to 1845 before it voluntarily joined the USA as the 28th state .

But like somebody already posted, legal meanings are not necessarily same as ordinary dictionary meanings.

@koruji. You are not entirely right that the constitution only listed the names of states without clarifying if they are 'of' or not. In the Schedule to the Constitution(same as where states are listed) but the one on the Oath of Office, it expressly states that Governor take oath as "Governor of _ _ _ _ State" not as "Governor of State of _ _ _ _". Same for members of the House of Assembly of a state or Judicial officials of a state's courts.

InvestmentRe: Real Estate Or Shares: Which Is Better? by klas(m): 8:08pm On Mar 01, 2013
Crownvilla: Why not eat your cake and have it? I beleive mortgages are the next big money earner in Nigeria. How many Nigerians do you think, would jump at the chance of owning their own homes via a mortgage?

This market is an untapped goldmine!!!!!!!

Back to your question, why not invest in real estate via the Stock Exchange. Right now there is only one listed mortgage firm on the NSE, namely, Union Homes. Effectively, if you buy shares in Union Homes you are killing two birds with a stone, investing in real estate and shares in one fell swoop. grin grin grin

LBIC recently did a PP, I suspect their shares will head for the moon whenever they are listed. A few other mortgage firms are rumoured to be close to a PP or full listing on the NSE.
Very wrong information and advise on all counts.

First, union homes is not the only listed mortgage bank. There are many. Aso savings is there, Abbey buildings society is there. Etc

Second, not only that most of the listed mortgage firms are unprofitable, they are having dwindling capital base hence the directive of CBN that all mortgage banks should recapitalized to between N2.5b and N5billion latest by April 2013

Most if not all listed mortgage banks are trading at par of 50 kobo each so no capital appreciation.

What you should have advised him on is may be to invest in listed Real Estate Investment Trust Scheme (REITS). You may read up more on that.

You are a disgrace to this nation, idio:t.
danny301: Brainless people like you are the problem of Nigeria...It's not the national assembly that is fooling you, i think you are a fool by birth. U type rubbish just with ur fingers without the use of brain.... Maina or whatever you called him stole 23 billion naira in a country where an average citizen lived below 1 dollar a day and all you can say is to bash national assembly members for rising against him. If Maina has other dirty secrets about the national assembly as you are stupidly saying why is running away? He should have come out with that secret.
You are actually the brainless here. Maina is the chairman of the specially constituted presidential task force that discovered the N23billion fraud. How did the hunter become the hunted. Senate was only acting on the allegation of the indicted police pension officials that maina's committee spent recklessly in the course of carrying out its investigation. E.g N1billion was allegedly spent by the committee to capture biometric data of pensioners living outside the country. Last year when Maina appeared before the senate to defend his committee, it was a shouting march reminiscent of Sanusi -senate face off. After that, he refused to honor their invitation hence the current saga.

He does not earn traveling allowance unless he travels. Since he does not travel everyday of the month, you cannot just multiply by 30 days.

BTW, The allowance is just a sort of inconvenience allowance. All his travelling expenses will be catered for by the protocol department.

toba: U may be right but i think the ideal fast is the kind of Jesus' fast. No Food no water. Personally i feel eating or drinking water is no fast. What distinguishes us from the Muslims that eat breakfast at 4.30am and still claims to be fasting?

I think its personal depending all how we look at it. May God reward us
Muslims 'claim' to fast or they actually fast. Do I detect hint of religious intolerance here? Their Quaran says they should fast between sunrise and sunset in a specific month. That is what their God decree and they follow it. Any problem with that?

If they hit back now asking you to specifically point to bible verse(s) that give Christians different leeways they introduce to fasting like 12am - 6pm; 6am-6pm; 6am - 12noon; 6am-3pm; some sipping water while fasting; some eating only fruits; even different month of fasting among different denominations; can u take up the challenge?

I wish you peace and spiritual uplifting as you embark on your fasting and as you make efforts to draw nearer to your God as demanded by your faith.

Get your story right. The deposit of $20million which CIL paid in 2001 alongside mtn and others for gsm was forfeited to federal government because it paid the balance with unacceptable conditions.

CIL transformed to glo in 2003 to get SNC licence at $285million. So glo can be said to actually pay $305m

PoliticsRe: Gunmen Attack Emir Of Kano's Convoy? by klas(m): 7:29am On Jan 20, 2013
Why emir of kano was target of terrorists

Yesterday’s convoy attack would not go down in history as the first time attempts would be made on the life of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero. But for providence, the Emir would have been killed as far back as the 9th day of July, 2010.

On that fateful Friday, the traditional ruler narrowly escaped being killed by a lone gunman who attempted to shoot him during the Muslim Juma’at prayer in Kano at the palace mosque.

The suspect, 19 year-old Usman Abubakar, who lived in the Doraji Quarters in Kano Metropolis, was stopped by the police before he could carry out the dastardly act. One Alhaji Abubakar Batakayen who Abubakar said sent him on the errand to kill the Emir, was also arrested.

Although Batakaye denied ordering Abubakar to murder the Emir, the duo was charged with attempted murder, and they were still standing trial when Abubakar, the lone gunman, died in detention after suffering from an undisclosed ailment.

The Emir was once again targeted for violent attack shortly after President Goodluck Jonathan was declared the winner of the 2011 presidential elections ahead of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC’s), General Muhammadu Buhari.

A band of rampaging youths, under the guise of protesting the result of the election, set ablaze vehicles parked at the Emir’s palace and also attempted to forcefully gain entry into the Emir’s palace.

It took the swift intervention of the Police to curb the attack. The Emir, who was reported to be within the premises at the time, was whisked to safety while hundreds of policemen stood guard at the palace for days after the incident.

The respected traditional ruler was again to be threatened with attack on the 28th of July, 2011 when the dreaded Islamic Sect, Boko Haram, wrote to inform him of their intention to attack the palace and the city of Kano.

The sect on the same day warned the Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, that it was prepared to launch a series of attacks across the state. The letters were signed by the sect’s assistant spokesperson, Abu Zaid. [The attack was eventually carried out on January 20, 2012 in which over 300 people died]

The sect accused Bayero of conniving with security agents and some district heads to arrest its members. They demanded the immediate release of their arrested men and threatened to make Kano State more ungovernable than Maiduguri the Borno State capital.

As if to make good its threat the sect attacked the Mandawari Police Station located by Ado Bayero’s Palace, weeks after their letter. Several police officers on duty were injured as gunmen fired sporadically at the building for nearly an hour that Monday morning.

Police reinforcement later foiled what many said was an attempt to invade the palace as the gunmen who also used explosives during the attack, were beaten back by the superior firepower of the police. No one was arrested at the scene of the attack.

Following alleged security report that assassins may once again be after his life, Ado Bayero, according to reports, was forced to cancel the 2012 edition of the 700 year old annual Durbar ceremony.

It was the first time the Sallah Durbah would be cancelled in its history. Sources close to the Emirate disclosed that asides the security report, the suspension of the Durbar activities was also because of the prevailing security situation in the state.

Due to public outcry, on 16th January, the government lifted the ban for 3 weeks to allow for streamlining the policy before implementing the ban again after 3 weeks.

And who say those offices dont have the figures akready. If it is to generate public debate to prove profligacy by Sanusi, he should have extended the question to cover the tenure of Sanusi predecessors in office so that we can compare.

Jollyzone: Never miscontrue tatoo for crest, they are quite different... In the past tribes in nigeria wear crest or tribal marks for easy identification but not tatoo
You are very WRONG. The tattoo in yorubaland is tattoo and permanent. My granny and my mum got them. My mum was octogenarian when she died. The Yoruba tattoo followed the same process as foreign ones sans machine. Many needles are bunched together and dipped into dye which are then used to make the design on the body. Herbs are then used to treat the marks for many days until the tattoo heals. Yorubas call it finfin.

Very soon we will start crediting plaiting of hair to Americans. Mental slavery

Billyonaire: 2. Memo has a mistake, its spelt 'Until' not 'Untill".
At the risk of digressing from the object of the thread, to be frank, the circular is 'ungubernatorial' (to adapt Okadigbo's words)

What is "Circular Letter"? A circular is a letter meant for general circulation. Why the tautology in a correspondence emanating from a state's highest office.

The addressee section of the circular makes it look more like an internal memo within the government house. Normally it should have been routed through the office of the secretary to the state government that has the responsibility to enforce the policy since it is government-wide issue (or through the head of service if it affects only civil servants) and copied to properly named office holders. EXCO is colloquial and not an acronym known to the constitution, so should not feature in official letter especially from the governor's office.

The appropriate apostrophe before Gboyega should be the closing one since it is to show that some letters are left out before the G

The circular really look 'oluwoleish' as you said.
