how about local councils within a region being empowered to generate their own revenue and take care of themselves.no more allocation(how i hate that word in Nigerian context) from Abuja.

you cited Ibadan.as big as Ibadan is why can't they be allowed to generate their own revenue to take care of itself without Abuja allocation.taxes and what ever money generated in natural resource in any local council or local governmet should at least 50% remain there while the rest goes to the region that local council belongs to.

you stay in UK remember council tax?
We have started down this road of States collecting funds from Abuja, we cannot change the rules of a game when the match has already started. What we should transcribe to is any new state created henceforth would have to generate their funds internally for 3 years  without any funds from Abuja, that would reduce all these ridiculous clamouring for state creation because they think they would be getting hand-out from Abuja.

I am sure those clamouring for states like Anioma and another one within the SE area would keep their traps shut. For one Anioma is northern part of delta State, if a state is created today, they would probably be entitled to 30% of what current Delta State is getting with the remainder 70% going to the southern part of the state because that is where the receipts from oil derivatives comes froml. So it makes sense for Asaba to be part of Delta now than being a state that no sooner or later would be another bankrupt state, hence why I am against creation of any state that cannot sustain themselves.

But cancelling an existing state telling them to merge with another state is a NO-NO.

Thanks Asha u were spot on the guy has no idea what he is saying
State creation brings development closer to grass root THAT is a FACT. Let us look at Akwa Ibom State and Cross River State. If Akwa Ibom was not created the development in present day Akwa Ibom would not be there for all to see. In fact today Uyo has fly-overs and worth not meanwhile the old capital of Calabar is still stuck in its old glorious past.

Same thing Ibadan City, one would expect that City to have moved on since the hey days of Awolowo, but because they had bad managers since this civilain dispensation started they are stuck in the rut of under-development. Can you say the samething of Mimiko's Ondo State one the states created from Ibadan or Oshiomeles's Edo State one of the states created from former western Region-NO

We need good managers not mediocres that is the bottom-line.  cool
Politics › Re: Six New States For A New Nigeria by KnowAll(m): 10:03am On Oct 30, 2011
States makes sense, what we need is good managers. What we need to do is introduce compulsory House Assembly surgeries in every constituency where the people would tell their law men and women both in the states and Federal houses how they feel, drawing  the Governors and President attention to their plight and displeasure about the slow pace of election campaign promises.

We need to use the tools given and provided to us by the constitution adequately. Many at times house men and women and not seen until the next election cycle, consultation with constituents must be made mandatory at least once every forth-night.
Business › Re: Why Nigeria May Remain Underdeveloped - Sanusi by KnowAll(m): 9:36am On Oct 30, 2011
Is an economy where states spends 96 percent of their revenue paying civil servant an economy that is likely to grow in the long run? These are difficult questions that we need to ask.
Sanusi is an Idiiiiooot, he wants to hold his grand father's estate together. There is no reasons why any state should be paying 96% of their revenue on concurrent expenditure. What we have in many states are bad Managers, Ex Gombe State Goverment paid himself $ 1 million dollars severance pay to himself whose fault is that.  huh undecided

This is an extract about Akwa Ibom State

The state government forwarded an Appropriation Bill of a whopping N309 billion for 2011, out of which 80 per cent is devoted to capital projects, thus making the state the highest in capital to recurrent ratio in the country.

Neighbouring Rivers State, which is also one of the best performing states in the federation, has 64 percent reserved for capital expenditure.
This is a state created after Kwara, ONDO, OGUN, and Kano. For this reason I object to any cull in state creation. State creations brings development close to grass root people. We need good managers to manage the states. Another thing I have noticed of recent,  why has all the State Houses of Assembly suddenly become fearful, toothless bulldogs allowing the Governors to rule with ignominy. They should be impeaching any incapable Governor, they are the last bastion of the common man. undecided

If you own say 40% of a 3trillion worth bank, for example, then you're not just an ordinary MD.
Jim Ovia was left off the hook. I pesonally do not see what Eratus and Madame Ibru did that Jim Ovia did not do. Let us just say Sanusi's selective justice made him keep his underhanded wealth but yet denied Eratus and Madame Ibru same. The Banking sector all had the same modus operendi at the hieght of the banking crisis, someone had to be made scapegoat.  Sanusi made Jim keep his ill gotten wealth. How can MD  have 40% of a Bank that is conflict of interrest.

This other fellows I doubt they are multi billionaires .

1. Dele Fajamirokun - this publicity would probably open bank Manager's doors to him thus undecided

2. Orji Kalu- Let him come out and tell us where he made his money from.

3. Dokpesi

4. And most of those former MD OF bANKS Like Ade Adelola

5. Some of those old money bags might be slipping too except if they have prime properties in prime areas in London, New York and Dubai which I doubt.

I belive Jimoh  Ibrahim is really an up and coming billionaire that should inspire many young, people. I belive he is a very, very wealthy man

The Internet has surely  put the fire burner on some gregarious politicians’ arsssse, some of them are so scared they think ' all hell is about to be let loose' they wake up the next day from their self  imposed and self imprisoned mansions with some kind of ‘de ja vu’ feeling only for them to realise that all that hot air and Armageddon story are stories of the Internet, although it belongs to a virtual world, the damage or the effect of some of those threat has become deeply ingrained in their psyche because of their misdeeds. No crook likes to be warned and reminded of his/her misdeeds on a daily basis; they had better be kept and swept under the carpet.

The internet is a good tool to fight or engage in psychological warfare, the war is between the looters and the looted. Thank God the looters are the ones feeling the heat and that hot perspiration at Night I am afraid it would continue until the nightmare becomes a reality.  cool
Politics › Kogi State Commisoner Of Police Should Be Sacked! by KnowAll(op): 1:05pm On Oct 28, 2011
That stuuuupid commisioner of Police of Kogi State should be sacked. Under his watch some dare-devil armed robbers stormed a court premises freeing A VERY dangerous rogue who was under custody. The silly Commisioner of Police whilst chasing shadows(possibly following orders from above) put so much effort trying to stop law abiding Nigerians(ACN Supportes) from travelling from Osogbo to Abuja on a solidarity trip, the commisioner not only lost sight of the grevious bodily harm commited in his state but has shown he lacks compunture,  competency and crime fighting stretegy whatsoever.

This gentleman if I am allowed to call him so, undecided should not be a commisioner, obvously what do one expect from a man who has taken his eyes of the ball. At times I wonder wether these so called 'laws within a law officers' called State Police Commisioners know their right from their left, what a shambolic force, are these the officers the good people of Kogi state hinged or are hedging their safety bet on, well like someone once said, God in his infinite wisdom is truely the one looking after everyone. Those CALLOUS jaded men in black who double up as armed robbers in the wee hours of the day are not to be trusted, whoever trust them is doing so in his or her own peril. I have never ever felt these strong of getting rid of these 'good riddance to a bad rubbish' as I feel for the people of Kogi State. The State I would say is under seige of inside jobbers and bent Police men alas a repeat of(Osunbour of the Anini fame saga) if we care to dig deep,  yet our honourable or is it dishonorable President and the IGP would see nothing wrong in this flagrant usurpation of justice.  huh

Gunmen kill prison official in court

By Our Reporter

•Judge’s car sprayed with bullets •Court registrar shot

IT is like a scene from an action-packed movie.

A judge adjourns an alleged robbery and kidnapping case, ordering the suspect to be remanded in prison custody. The court rises and a prison warder leads the accused out of the courtroom.

Suddenly, gun shots ring out. There is pandemonium, with litigants and court officials running for dear lives. By the time the dust settles minutes after, the prison warder lies dead. Gone is the accused. Also gone are the gunment.

It was no movie, but real on Wednesday in Kogi State where unknown gunmen suspected to be members of a robbery gang whose member was standing trial attacked the Ihima High Court.

The Media Officer of the State High Court, Mr Saqeeb Saeed, in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area, confirmed yesterday that the attack took place on Wednesday.

He said Justice Moses Gwatana had adjourned the case against Abdulrazak Nasiru, who was ordered to be remanded in prison custody.

The accused was released to an official to take to the Okene Medium Security Prison in a Nigeria Prisons Service pick-up van.

Saeed said before the van took off, the attackers, numbering between 10 and 12, apparently lurking around a primary school near the court, stormed the premises, wielding dangerous weapons and shooting indiscriminately.

“They shot dead the warder whose name was not immediately known and released the accused while the court officials, litigants and helpless security agents, scampered for safety during the operation that lasted 10 minutes,” he said.

The News Agency Nigeria (NAN) learnt that although the judge escaped unhurt, his official KIA Sorento SUV was sprayed with bullets. Mr Bakare Sunday was shot in the ear.

Saeed said the body of the prison official had been deposited at the Obangede General Hospital mortuary. The court registrar has been admitted in the hospital for bullet wounds.

Kogi State High Court Chief Registrar Mrs Comfort Toluwashe has lodged a complaint with the police, saying the accused was initially involved in an armed robbery in which a man was kidnapped.

Politics › Re: Ben Bruce To Run For Governor In Bayelsa State by KnowAll(m): 1:49pm On Oct 26, 2011
Are you aware that the PDP in Bayelsa is factionalized into about three: Sylva, Jonathan and Ebebi's groups. Ebebi and Jonathan will likely close ranks and he will be compensated but Sylva will be the ultimate loser.

The party can also refuse you its ticket if the National Executive Committee decides so as it was in the case of Muhammed Abacha in Kano CPC. So, that you win a primaries does not guarantee you the party's ticket. Now you can see where Jonathan will wield the big stick.

Whichever way you look at it, Sylva will lose without Jonathan's backing
Conjecture!!!, I think JEG is a more civil person when compared to people like OBJ who would readily put his dirty nose in every single elections in some states, no matter how low and down the scale the election is? I don't see JEG going down the OBJ route, GEJ is a smooth operator, as long as those rogues in power can buy madame first lady a nice encrusted diamond necklace no matter how bad the Governor is, the Presidency go support you. Or how else did Udughan manage to find himself in Governor's house again, after the courts have fired the first salvo at nullify his election, that one na abracada, moreso when the whole world knew he did not perform during his first term. I am sure the relationship between the Governor of Delta State and the Presidency is more than skin deep. Sylvia would need to engage Udaghan to know wetin happen now. undecided

If Mbadinuju was excluded (according to him) in 2003, what stops PDP from excluding Sylva in 2011.

Any way we look at it, Sylva's likely loss will not make history
That is a topic for another day, at this point in time the Governor is on hand to run and participate in the primaries obviously with all the state machinery of PDP in his palms, together with the largesse(state allowance including derivatives at his disposal) from Abuja every month there could be only one winner.

When it comes to 'talking the talk', I would give Aregbesola A+, but by this time next year if there is nothing solid on the ground to show or proof that he is"walking the walk" then people would have the rigt to criticise him. Not saying 2 years is not too short for criticism, he by his own doing or undoing has talked himself or boxed himself into the critics hands, they would be watching his every move with an eagle eye,  between this dry season and next dry season to see whether what he has being harping on about is geniue and not just hot air. I sincerly hope it is not all hot air, his enthusiasm wets ones apeptitie but I honestly want HIM to suceed, we shall see huh.

@Pro Anti
Mbadinuju claimed that he was excluded from the governorship contest in 2003 despite winning the PDP primaries because Uba and President Olusegun Obasanjo opposed his candidature.[4] In his place, Dr. Chris Ngige ran for the PDP but was beaten by the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Eventually, after the election was nullified and re-ran, Chris Ngige took the post.[12]
Mbadinuju did not loose the primaries he was excluded and he claimed he won the primaries, so I know what I am saying. Senator Patrick Osakwe was not involved in a Gubernatorial Primary, my postulations was referring specifically to Guber Primaries, so the Senator's election was of no relevance to the discuss here.

Am saying this because am convinced that Silva will get PDP tciket for another 4years even if he had not done anything meaniful for the state. Its the useless system we find ourselves in.
If Silvia dosen't get the ticket in the primaries, he would have broken a new record in Nigeria as the first incumbent not to be selected by his party in a primary election. I don't see that happening. Silvia would get the ticket, others are only posturing for 2016 or there about.
