Jonathan is already behaving like a lame duck in 2011, omo 2015 na long wait, he cannot even sack d police boses and army boses whose barracks got bomed. If d HQ of police in a state gets blown into smeetheren what hope does d citizenry of state have when d supposedly law enforcement agencies cannot protect their own lives.

Can You imagine Kenya has gone to d lions den confronting Al Shabab yet we Naija cannot solve an internal problem. Despite Kenya's intervention in Somalia, Al Shabab has not being able to hit Kenya d way Boko Haram seems to be toying with security personnel. This C-C is grossly inadequate.

I would have voted Buhari but since I do not live in Naija, I did not vote, however I ticked 'I stay in the SW and voted Buhari' , obvioulsy going by my earlier disclosure, the result of this poll would not reflect the realities of the day, since I did not vote on the day but having said that, it would be interesting to see how many people who actually voted come out and take part in this straw poll. THE RESULT Could be conclusive. huh

Old article yes, but still relevant. Consider the issues raised therein:

Petroleum/petroleum subsidy Issue-- relevant today.
Corrruptiong-- relevant today.
Sovereign National Conference--relevant today.

History exists for a reason, not the lease of which is knowledge that can shed lights on often cloudy or distorted events.
I stop reading when I got to the bit where the article said IBB was warming up to step into OBJ's shoes as soon as the latter's tenure is over, obviously we all know what transpired after that hence my reasons for saying it is old gist. cool

Politics › Re: Gov. Akpabio Receives National Honour For Development by KnowAll(m): 1:21pm On Nov 04, 2011
What has drainage got to do with this, which other west african country has a budget as akwa Ibom state and with so little people. Recieving about $8 billion in 4.5 year with only $1 billion spent on salary at these time in the state is what you guys call achievement
The feelers I get from forums like this about this Governor is, foreigners and what  I mean by foreigners are,  out of staters that is residents including Akwa Ibomites in other states and in the Diasporas tend to love him to bits and are appreciative of what he is doing. But on the other side of the coin those who live within the states seem to be singing from a different sheet, they seem to despise him. Shouldn’t we outsiders pay heed to those discontent voices from within who would surely know better than we outsiders me inclusive.

For instance if we take the issue of the money accrued to Akwa Ibom State in the last 4 years which is in excess of $8 Billion dollars going by what  this poster claimed above,  that is more than any income earned by any community within the West African region except maybe Rivers and Bayelsa or to be precise one of them. Going by information I believe is in the public domain that Dubai was built for  $20 billion dollars when one compares what is on the ground in Akwa Ibom State with what Dubai has to show case for her $20 billion investment and development drive knowing Akwa Ibom State has already or nearly spent more than 2/4 th of that amount and there is really nothing to show except mundane and superficial development one might be tempted to say this fellow is a colossal failure when compared with his contemporaries in other climes. But going by the Nigeria Standard (which is a very low standard I must say) one cannot but appreciate that he is a messiah amongst the blind.

I would hope the next man that takes over from him would thrive to be a Goliath amongst the general community of nations rather than been a Goliath amongst embezzlers, fraudsters and outright thieves within the Nigerian Polity.

Can you imagine a beautiful/Handsome Angel built like a Greek god, welcoming you to heaven with a fat diamond stone as a paltry gift ushering you into the gates of 'new Jerusalem', what would be your first reaction would you pay homage or attention to the glum people with saddened faces all sitting and standing around your death bed, looking down at you with sympathy or would you shout  “oh whao” at this beautiful Angel handing you the most exotic gem stone man has ever seen, that explain the reasons why Steve jobbs looked beyond the shoulders of his sister into this unfathomably distance that took away his breath and aptly captivated his attention.

Compare and Contrast the above with all these men who were known athiest in their last moments,

Voltaire: ‘I am abandoned by God and man…I shall go to hell.’

Thomas Paine: 'I would give worlds, if I had them, that the "Age of Reason" had never been published.  Oh, God, save me; for I am at the edge of hell alone…

Thomas Carlyle:  I am as good as without hope, a sad old man gazing into the final chasm.’

Gandhi 15 years before his death: ‘I must tell you in all humility that Hinduism, as I know it…entirely satisfies my soul, fills my whole being and I find solace in the Bhagavad and the Upanishads.’ Shortly before his death he wrote:  ‘My days are numbered, I am not likely to live much longer, perhaps a year or more…For the first time in 50 years I find myself in the slough of despond…All about me is darkness; I am praying for light.

Thomas Scott, Chancellor of England:  ‘Until this moment, I thought there was neither God nor Hell…Now I know and feel that there are both, and I am doomed to perdition by the just judgment of the Almighty

Edward Gibbon, author:  ‘All is dark and doubtful.

Mazarin, French cardinal:  ‘Oh, my poor soul!  What will become of thee?  Whither wilt thou go?

Thomas Hobbes, political philosopher and sceptic: ‘I am about to take a fearful leap into the dark.’

Sir Francis Newport, sceptic:  ‘I know I am lost forever!  Oh, that fire!  Oh, the insufferable pangs of hell!’ - This is the most graphic representaition of the realities of hell?

what a mockery of a user name
I am only tying to make you see the extremities and the out of this world superlatives that can be use to describe heaven, the streets of heaven are paved with gold, so does the bible tells us that alone is enough to make a technology freak person like Steve Jobbs scream out his last breath in wonderment. cool

The Word of the Lord says that "no one has seen, nor has anyone heard or even imagined" what Heaven will be like.(See 1 Cor 2:9 below)

In this earthly life, we use sticky tar, rocks, sand, and sometime even broken glass to pave our streets with asphalt. Pretty close to the bottom of the natural resources chain, wouldn't you say. At the top, lies precious metals and stones such a gold, platinum, silver, diamonds, etc.

If, in Heaven, the streets are made of gold, what, I ask you, IN ALL THE UNIVERSE, will the buildings be made of? As God said, you can't even imagine!

Accept Jesus as your savior and follow Him to find out.

"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.", 1 Corinthians 2:9 (KJV)

The Angels in heaven showed him technologies that are light years away, hence why he screamed oh wow! oh wow!! this one pass man oh! huh

For an American and an inventor of Steve Jobbs calibre to shout oh wow! Oh wow! Most cancer patients in most cases welcome any treatment for they don't know where d magic bullet of healing would come from. It would be foolhardy for Steve Jobbs to deny God or d existence of God in his dire and desperate moment, from feelers gotten  from d immediate family he was at peice with himself at d very end of his life having reconciled his juvenile utterances questioning d existence of God with realities off d day. Steve Jobbs having revisit his earlier stance regarding d existence of God and revoking it, I  make bold to say Steve Jobbs is in d bosom of d lord.
Christianity Etc › Steve Jobbs Saw A Bit Heaven & Screamed Oh Wow! Oh Wow! B4 He Died by KnowAll(op): 2:03pm On Nov 01, 2011
During her eulogy to Steve Jobs, his sister Mona revealed that his last words, delivered while looking into the middle-distance, had been: ‘Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow.’
To some, these words may seem a little monosyllabic, a little too repetitive. As the inventor of the Mac, perhaps Jobs could have been expected to say something rather more startlingly apt. We can only hope that the inventor of the text message, whoever that may be, makes the effort to say ‘OMG, OMG, OMG,’ before he dies.
On the other hand, there is a simplicity and poetry to Jobs’s near-palindrome, ‘Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow.’ There
There could only be one thing that would make a man like Steve  Jobbs exclaim in wonderment, and that thing I believe would be the sights and sounds of heaven,  Steve must have caught a glimpse of a pristine heaven and in acknowledgement of what he saw he exclaimed aloud  oh wow! Oh wow!! Oh wow!!!, God is great  cool

The man is only guilty of glossing up or sexing up his cv which he shouldn't have done because his first degree and experience more than qualifies him for d job. Many Nigerians fall into this unnecessary fad of collecting various post graduate degrees. Becomerich is Right saying Phd does not mean Shiiiiit h over here abroad except you want to go into research or something no wonder Dr. Nnaji is struggling to give us light, a technology that is almost 200 years old.

@awwula87

You are missing d point, d top executives of d top 100 companies in Britain are run by people who has just first degrees in some instances no degree at all. Having said that this guy does not have to lie over one non existent Oxford degree, his experience is enough to see him through if anything.

We must get something right thus, he has a first degree in Chemistry which is com firmable. If that is d case going by how things are done abroad, a man who has worked for the NNPC since 1977, his experience rather than his paper certificate is his most valuable asset.

One thing we fail to realise in Nigeria is a higher second degree or Masters and a subsequent 3rd higher degree or PhD. are tailored towards lectureship, research & a specialist field which in d grand scheme of things does not necessary equate to managing a company. The former that is specialist degree is narrow and parochial, when compared to experience which can be all encompassing  that is d trend in d West and specifically in Britain where they tend to go for experience unlike America where certification is over emphasised and over flogged.

Nigeria has d right to choose d middle ground between these two extremities. That is each case should be determined by it's or her merit. On this occasion I would  suffice to say 34 years service to a company is no beans. It would be inconceivable to think a man that has been in a particular industry for 34 years does not know what he is doing and that a man who manage to gain a certificate from one of d iv league school barley 10 or even 5 years ago is in a better stead to run this organisation thereby discounting all d rough & tumble of the man that has spent 34 years.

The Oxford Princeton Programme was formed in July 2000 by the merging of two longstanding entities -- The College of Petroleum and Energy Studies (Oxford, UK) and Princeton Energy Programme (Princeton, New Jersey, USA) -- making it the world's leading provider of commercial education and training solutions to the energy and derivatives industries. A regional office opened in Singapore in February 2007 to service the Asia Pacific region. Thousands of energy business professionals and a distinguished group of corporate clients turn each year to The Oxford Princeton Programme as their trusted resource for unsurpassed instruction

Politics › Re: Lagos At Centre Of Africa's Population Boom by KnowAll(m): 3:09pm On Oct 31, 2011
The maze of shacks on stilts stretch out across the filthy water's surface, canoes colliding as they hustle between them in a slum that serves as a warning for the world's fastest growing continent.

Tens of thousands of people live amid fetid conditions and no public services in this water-top neighbourhood in the Nigerian economic capital of Lagos, already the largest city in Africa's most populous nation.

"I'm just like the people. I don't have shelter on the outside," Friday Gezo, a 25-year-old teacher at a school started through donations, said from his wood-frame classroom when asked why he lived in the slum known as Makoko.
When is the Lagos State Government going to do something about Makoko. That place is an eyesore. And to make matters worse the place is on a waterside. The world all over, watersides usually host the best apartments a city has to offer but not in Lagos.
Politics › Re: NNPC Chief Is A Fraud - Fake Credential? by KnowAll(m): 2:18pm On Oct 31, 2011
man should be judged by his work and result not by his certificates. This overemphasis on certificates has been one of the reasons for our backwardness.

I respect your findings but for now that is not what we need in Nigeria.
A man who can lie over a simple thing as certification should not be in a position of controlling an organisation which provides millions of dollars for the nation. If the man knows certificate is not important he should have said that from the on set and those recruiting him would know they are recruiting him based on his practical pedigree.

The guy is a fraud as simple as that if it is confirmed he has no certificate. I don’t care if GEJ is hell bent on putting a Bayelsa man there at least let it be a honest geniue person not one scammer.

This would be a good start.
Problem is, the first casualty of such a regime would be the instrument known as National Character.
Are Nigerians ready to consign it to history
Forget National Character, we should be laying down laws enshrined in stone with no room for manoeuvres in our courts so that when the judge reads the remit of the case he knows the judgement already.

For example if you did 60 miles on a 30 mile road in the UK, no matter who you are, you would be giving 6 points on your license and a fine. Even if the Queen is your mother. We need to create laws and adhere to it, no middle ground otherwise we ain’t going anywhere.

We need a dedicated Agency tasked with the arduous duty of verifying results and credentials of individuals, the Agency would write to institutions all over the world confirming validity of the certification presented. Although a person might pass the initial verification exercise probably through greasing the palms of bent officials in some institutions, such passes would be seen or deemed as a temporary hurdle which can be revisited if for any reason persons or institutions raise suspicion that is counter to the original exercise and results.

Basically all appointments would be tentative, if for any reasons the dust is thrown open at any personnel most importantly and especially the beneficiary of an earlier scam the whole verification exercise would be reviewed and if the person is found wanton that person would be sent to jail for a stipulated time not more than 2 years so as to deter others who might what to go down this dishonourable route.

When Obama said we need strong institutions not strong leaders or personnel all he is saying is, certain laws should be enshrined in the court system and constitution if need be,  so that when a person is found wanton of an offence, he or she already knows what punishment would be meted out against him/her irrespective of their tribal allegiance, state allegiance, creed or race.
