Politics › Re: The Man Who Might Be King - Bukola Saraki by KnowAll(op): 1:52pm On Aug 31, 2010
How many northern governors will queue behind saraki?

Ok answer this question: SARAKI IS A YORUBA MAN, TRUE OR FALSE?
The word “ Yoruba” would be like a poison chalice to the likes of Saraki, he would not want  for once to be associated with it,  even thus providence has shown that he is Yoruba, but also by the same token providence has also shown that “Ilorin” has being under the Sultanate since the 1830’s a fact many Ilorin indigenes cannot run away from.

In the Political front Kwara has never being in the Yoruba parliament since the amalgamation of Southern and Northern Nigeria so why lump them with the Yoruba’s now, is it because they speak a language which is similar to those spoken in core Yoruba heartlands.

Would it be right to refer to the Hausa Speaking Benioise, Ghanians and Nigerians as Nigerians because they speak Hausa,  same is applicable to Ilorin. They have being part of Northern Nigeria and have serve that region diligently for almost 96 years since the amalgamation,  a time comes going by the laws of nature when it should be pay back time for all that loyalty and it is to my own reckoning about time.
Politics › Re: The Man Who Might Be King - Bukola Saraki by KnowAll(op): 1:25pm On Aug 31, 2010
My guy if you dont know this , then you dont understand how Hausa/fulani view things politically.

AWUSA man no go ever allow yoruba man use northern slot when it is known that just a few years back, one yorubaman(OBJ) just left that seat.LAILAI E NO GO HAPPEN. E be like say u no know how mallam dey think.

The sarakis can only feed from the crumbs that fall from the Northern political table. Any attempt to seat at the table and have the big pie like the presidency will be resisted by the north.

Infact if jonathan na sharp man, he is supposed to exploit this loophole and win kwara. how? by inflitrating the northern ranks and giving him(saraki) false hope and drop him at the crucial hour by making him Know that he is a yorubaman when the time comes. He will be so disenchanted that wooing him to GEJ's camp will be far too easy. I somehow still believe that at the right time, OBJ will talk to the father OLUSOLA SARAKI and that is what matters. Na papa get power, pikin just dey ride on papa goodwill.
I believe if the primaries comes to a head to head between Jonthan and Saraki after IBB would have being floored, Saraki would carry the day except if he is disqualified in one way OR the other. We must remember the Saraki’s have a lot of open secrets which can be a pain and a Pandora’s box for Saraki.
Politics › Re: The Man Who Might Be King - Bukola Saraki by KnowAll(op): 1:04pm On Aug 31, 2010
The north(hausa/fulani) would rather allow jonathan continue than support OLUBUKOLA SARAKI who is a northerner by geographical/political expediency but by every strand a yoruba man.
I would not put my money on that. Even Jonathan knows the biggest threat to his Presidential ambition is Saraki and not IBB.

Lets call a spade a spade, what the hell !!! is IBB looking for in Aso Rock, let us be realistic if he was the President during a democratic dispensation, he would have done his 2 terms, and damn it he would not be allowed to run again.

Secondly what does a civilian IBB hope to achieve, does he not know a Civilian President is not as powerful as a military dictator, with the stroke of his pen as a military dictator he can send an innocent man to the gallows, also at the stroke of the pen he can implement the most viable economic blue-print for the nation the way Gadaffi is going about it in Libya,  yet this Gentleman did not do all these things when he was there for 8 years, now he wants us to believe he would do it in 4 years(let us believe he would only be there for one term) what he cannot do in 8 years as an absolute ruler, haba,  IBB we no be small pickin, e be like say this General don dey Kolo or going senile.  undecided

IBB’s running for the Presidency should be seen as and it is tantamount to OBJ seeking a 3rd and 4th term in office after the yuletide OR Break in Presidential duties due to the fact that another man has being in charge for the last 3 1/2 years.

I am not sure our constitution allows for a breather, otherwise Messer OBJ would be throwing is old hat in the ring yet again. If it were a case where the constitution allows for a break in Presidential OR Gubernatorial duties with due respect IBB and OBJ can and should be allowed to throw their bloody hats in the ring yet again but alas that is not the case.

Thank God for the clarity in our constitution on these matters, and thank God for learned and educated folks who can interpret the constitution.

IBB must choose between 2 evils, one is to succumb to the authorities and be charged for a rebellious and mutinous behaviour whilst serving as the Chief of Army Staff, a sin and an offence COMMITED against the  Federal Republic of Nigeria which has being dormant since 1985.

And secondly he should allow us to Civilianize his 8 year term as a Military Dictator thereby excluding him from next year’s election having already ruled for 8 years, if he were to accept the 2nd option all entitlements of an ex-President would be giving to him and he shall be seen as such. But if he chose to run next year, then the sin and the full brutal force of the punishment reserve for mutineers should be revisited upon him, he would be tried like his bosom friend Maman Vatsa by a Military Court and if Judgement did not go in his favour might likely face the same wrath and fate like Vatsa, a prospect I am quite sure he would want buried in the archives of our History books for ever.

Over-throwing the Buhari / I diagbon regime is not to be taking lightly or swept under the carpet. After all that regime was moving the country in the right direction, the corrupt Politicians of the 2nd Republic where incarcerated and rightly so, drug peddler’s where summarily executed, this dastardly act mushroomed from thousands of cases caught every year to Zero OR Zilch. It was like a car suddenly halting in an abrupt manner.   huh

Nigerians through out the nation observed environmental day which took place on the last Saturday of every month with an obedience and reverence never seen b4, yet Messers IBB came-In, insisting and informing Nigerians he is the real deal, that he has come to rescue the nation from what many see as a progress ional route to the genuine promise land, he avowed he would take us to an even grandeur utopian than the previous regime.

I can remember when I first saw him on TV for the first time, a young roundish face General with a wide boyish smile and a gap tooth, he reassured many with his big toothy trade mark, I saw him as an "alaiye" OR a Wordly General one of us, he appeared to have a much better persona than the gaunt and serious looking Buhari and Idiagbon who never ever smile.

It is on record no smiling picture of these two Gentlemen were ever caught on camera perhaps they might do when seeking a tryst with their wives in the privacy of their bedrooms, that can only be confirmed and revealed by their wives, and as far as I know Nigerian women do not do "kiss and tell stories", we might as well wait till kingdom come to get that kind of information from their spouses.

And that brings me down to the write up of Today, the man who might be King -  Bukola Saraki, this well educated savvy young Doctor, son of a silver spoon with a brain and sharpness that surpasses many Yahoo con artist can yet be King. Do I really want this chap to be King, well for once we would have a man with a brain in Aso – Rock, and from the evidence at hand of his stewardship in Kwara States this Gentleman’s performance surpasses the derivative SEEKING Governor’s of the South-South by a million miles,  those clowns, (just thinking allowed here was Jonathan not one of those clowns) I am afraid they should cover their faces with shame. They are a disgrace to Governance in general and the Black man’s perception of what Governance entails.

Nigerians should not be emigrating to USA, Canada, UK or Europe, Nigerians should be emigrating to the South-South to seize on the growth and job opportunities those gentlemen are creating, but what do we have in our hands,  even the core oil businesses are relocating out of the area to Lagos State, this more than anything is a vindication to the haplessness and hopelessness of those in authority in the South-South.

Although Cross River State had a good man in Donald Duke whose performance was also comparable to Bukola but he strategically chose a dead end route by not playing any active role in politics since he left office.

Bukola’s die is cast now, he has done his 8 years stint, he is the Chairman of the Northern Governor’s Forum a very powerful political bloc, this body of divergent individuals if for once change tact and move their focus from Messers Jonathan knowing one of them is the VP might be the key to the Presidency, if they decide to unify forces and see an end to Messer’s Jonathan’s incumbent bravado, this might be tantamount to a civilian coup de tat, I suspect the thinking man Bukola, still has some tricks hidden in his magic hat which he might still unravel.

The Principle of Et tu, Brutu OR In English “ You too Brutus” is a Latin phrase often used poetically to represent the last words of Roman dictator Julius Caesar. Immortalized by Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, the quotation is widely used in Western culture to signify the utmost betrayal. There no permanent friends in politics but permanent interest.

Sambo might stick the knife-In on his Boss OR better still be isolated by his colleagues and comrades, if the others decide to work together and stick the knife-In themselves, by throwing their support behind Bukola’s Candidate then I must confess,  if that were to happen we would have a contest in our hands, my guess is this savvy,  young and handsome man might still be King as long as the Hausa / Fulani of the far North are ready to compromise their own desire and bury the hatchet for this fast thinking goal getting Buccaneer from Kwara State. We shall wait and see as the events unfold b4 our very eyes.

In fact I would suggest more visits of the President OR better still the VP to the States, that way the GOVERNORS would be kept on their tows. Obviously if the President comes to your States and spends a few hours, it is clear the Governor of that state has not being performing. If the President have several projects to commision in the state he would not be spending a few hours in any State, he would be there for days.

So if Mr President was in your state for a few hours, you should be asking your Governor what he has being doing with the allocation accrued to the state. Abi President go dey look Governor for face after commisioning just one project

There was a J da Rocha Afodu who was at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.

I believe that must have been one of his descendants.

It would be best for NLanders to desist from posting instead of denigrating people.

We ought to share ideas and knowledge rather than dragging this forum into the cesspit!

I am not having a go at this family, I am enquiry about the decendents, however that is not the main reason why I posted this piece in the first place. The essence of this article is to home in and emphasis that once upon a time there was a thriving private initiated business in our country that worked

The leaders of today and those in the corridor's of power should borrow a leaf from the past to allow private hands to take over some of those run down and broken government conglomerates needless to say NNPC and NEPA

The bidding process should be done openly with a high degree transparency like the way PUBLIC auctions are done in the west.

Ghana is hoping to make $1 billion dollars from oil sale next year, yet different calibre of Nigerians from the high and mighty, to the low and sublime, are all rushing to buy and invest in houses in Ghana. I was suprise when a friend of mine here in London said he has almost finish building his house in Ghana and he is a Nigerian. I said why Ghana and not Nigeria, he said Ghana is just well organise than Nigeria, although he has land in Abuja which he is also developing too, but most likely he told me his house in Ghana would be ready b4 the one in Abuja.

The moral of the story is Rivers State gets $3 billion dollars from the fedeartion account including direvatives, yet her population is under 5 million where-as Ghana a soverreign nation with a popultion of 18 million people would be expecting a 3rd of what River's State currently gets. Why are Nigerians investing in Ghana and not in Rivers, Bayelsa OR Akwa Ibom.

The simple answer to this question is that all 3 Governors are corrupt, they are clueless rogues only ready to line up their own pocktets, the income accrued to Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom is enough to turn those places into an eldorado.

River's  planned a ring road got cancelled.

Now River State is planning to build a monorail system I hope this comes to fusion.

I think it would make more sense for Nigerians in SA to go to Igbinedion's House in SA and touch it. These are the people who put us in this sorry stage. Elections are around the corner none of those clowns parading themselves is worthy to be voted for including the incumbent. The earlier Nigerians know RIBADU is their man the better.

Armed with about $3 billion annually the Governor in Rivers State is a failure. All he has done going by all those positive spin posted on this thread is noting but window dressing OR White-washing, Amechi should cut into the bone and start implementing some real feasible and reliable projects.

If cash strapped Saraki in Ilorin can do so much with limited funds over a short time, we expect more than average performance from a well heeled and paid Governors like those in Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom. Calling their performanace abysmal is not an understatement to say the least.

His daughter was the proprietress of ADRA school beside NTA at Victoria Island.

I think the DR in the name of the school actually comes from Da Rocha.

His daughter was. Mrs. Omololu Mulele and she presented the queen with flowers at the airport when the queen visited Nigeria in the 50s

Omololu Mulele died within the last three years
That is quite insightful, was there no male Da Rocha's, with death of the woman that name has being banish and commuted to history books.

I pray we go back to the old ways of doing things. Private ownership of utility companies is the norm in advance countries, Nigeria should retrace her developmental step backwards to that humble beginning and start correcting the loopsided contraptions and anomalies we have today.  huh

It is strange I don’t know of any Da Rocha Today, either in public life OR private life what has happened to the good fortunes of this family. Did Mr Da Rocha not have a son, it is just strange no information about this ingenious business man from Brazil.

Mr. Da Rocha, (a merchant who came from Brazil) popularly known as Baba Olomi, who had his office in Water House on Kakawa Street (opposite Union Bank) was said to have owned and operated the Iju water works that serve the entire Lagos in the 20s before it was taken over by the state government. He was described as the richest Nigerian then. According to reports, Da Rocha laid pipes from Iju to Lagos Island, Yaba, Ebute-Metta and other communities in the state where there are high demands for pipe borne water. Until it was taken over by the state government, the colonial administration was paying Da Rocha for the supply of water to the state.

Will it stop corruption or decrease poverty. All i understand is that you make some people more powerful and wealthier while majority suffers in abject poverty. IMHO, we should master the one we are practicing before we evolve our own.
It is usually from the known we get to the unknown not the other way round.
You are not making anybody rich, each Seantoral District would be able to create employement by

1. Establishing their own University, some body posted something yesterday saying the FG should establish a Uni in Onitsha, with this system the Seanator would take care of his people as he can easily divert the funds RECEIVED from FG to this project, at the moment money that comes from FG can easily be hijacked by the State Governor and use to build un-necessary dualise road in the capital that leads to no where.

2. They can establish their own Airport if the area has a lot of commercial activities.

3. Build their own Teaching Hospital. Can you imagine a City like Lagos having 6 big Hospitals like Luth not just one. London is not as big as Lagos Metropolitan area but it has more than 15 big hospitals each employing in excess of 5,000 people you can imagine how quickly the un-employed would be mopped up by institutions like this.

4. Build their industrial estates, power stations to generate electricity.

5. Because the number of politicians at the Senatorial district are not many transparency should be easier to monitor  than  now. For instance a Senator who owned only one house b4 he became a Senator suddenly start having lots of houses all over the place, the local people would be able to confrony him asking him probing questions of how he came about the sudden wealth, it is just like when one questions one's Brother or a close family member when such a person start splashing on luxurious good when u know he has not got the means. You would ask him questions.

what difference would it really make?
can a senator serve in the national senate and deal with local state affairs at the same time?
especially as the sole authority for the state in both fields?
I don’t see a reason why a Senator cannot play both roles, that is why he has Commissioners and Special Advisers. One week he would be in Abuja the other week he would be in his Constituency doing proper constituency projects,.

I believe this system would bring the dividends of democracy closer to the people, especially as there woulb are 108 of them, there should also be intense competition amongst various constituency, any erring Senator should be easily identified and given the marching order if he / she is not performing.
Politics › Scrap The Post Of The Governors Let Senators Take Charge by KnowAll(op): 9:10am On Aug 19, 2010
We don’t have to follow the American system word for word OR letter for letter. We should evolve our own system of Government. The Americans after all created their own kind of Government that suited them instead of embracing the English system despite and considering America got her independence from Britain in the 1770’s.

Nigeria too should create her own unique Political System, the post of a Governor is one post we had better do without. What is the essence of this post in the Nigeria context, half the time the money given to the Governors are spent on recruiting an army of special advisers, Special Assistants and commissioners and most development are almost always concentrated in the state capital to the detriment of the other parts of the state. Secondly despite having 36 states, the agitation for new States is on the increase, at the latest count another 37 States are clamouring for their own States, where does all this State creation madness ends.

Since our Senators are over paid and are possibly the highest paid law makers in the world, it makes sense to increase their work load. The post of Governors must be scrapped and in replacement the 3 Senators from a State would man the 3 Senatorial district in the State as de-facto Governors of that Senatorial district.

The income accrued to a State should be divided into 3 and giving to the Senators for onward delivery to their wards. I believe that by creating and making the Senator’s in charge of their Districts we would have put a lead on further State creation for Good. In effect we would have in a rather subterfuge way have created 36 X 3 = 108 Smaller States. The bureaucracy and all paraphernalia of the office of the Governors  would have being curtailed, we would have nip that ever growing and ballooning cost of maintaining a Governor his entourage and all his/her hanger-on’s in the bud.

Composition

The Senator would be in charge of the Senatorial districts and his Lieutenants would include members of the House of Reps and members of the defunct State House of Assembly from the same Senatorial district they would act as the legislatures for that Senatorial district.

It means the current House of Reps  Guys would be playing a double legislative role, they would be member in the National Stage and in the local stage thereby not only justifying  the huge sums they are paid at the moment but also playing an active role in local politics which in most cases regenerate political activities, economic activities, and natural growth in the Senatorial District.

The Senator would have only 10 commissioners and 5 special Advisers, 5 Special Assistants. In the Absence of the Senator, one of the House of Reps members would step in as a designate deputy, this role would only come to effect only if the Senator is not present in his/her post due to holiday, sickness OR any other unfortunate circumstances otherwise the role would be inconsequential when the Senator is in charge.

The reason for this is one is trying to avoid the abysmal role Deputy Governor’s play under the current dispensation. I think and believe this model would save us more money and it would be worthy for us as a country to chart a different way rather than copying the American system which has become a juggernaut snuffing the last grasp of breath from our already emaciated body,

There is no reason why a city of 2 million cannot generate enough revenue and have a City Uni, In America they have City Unis, County Unis, State Unis.

I think LG should be scrapped in Urban Areas and the office of a Mayor Created in its place, A Mayor would be able to co-ordinate and plan revenue streams for a city, in fact any City above 200,000 people should have a Mayor.

I would not call the 3rd mainland Bridge a White elephant project, without that Bridge Lagos as we know it  today would have being the most grid-locked City in the world.
