I am not arguing against reducing the allowance or what-not. I am arguing against Mr Knowall plucking a 3M figure (salary +allowance) from outer-space.

Excesses should always be curbed in line with CPI

Is 3 million not fair figure consdering we are coming down from 38 million Naira.
Politics › Re: Lowest Paid Nigerian Should Be Paid N200,000.00 Per Annum by KnowAll(op): 2:35pm On Dec 08, 2009
we are not talking just about basic salaries here. Please include all the stationery allowance (about 12million per quareter), constituency allowance, etc. Like someone said, there is wastage and we need to cut the wastage. Why else will people be willing to sacrifice their lives just to get there?

Remember the last time there were suggestions to reduce their salaries, they refused only offering to reduce the basic salary. Thats because they know the real money is in the allowances.

Look at what is happening in Ondo State, 1 Senator and 3 House of reps guys doing everything possible in other to win. I think with that obsence salaries that our lawmakers are getting we as a nation has lost a whole generation of would be entrepreneur to Politics. How can a country grow when the entrepreneaurs are dwindling and becoming a rear breed on a daily basis.

u sure u know what u r talking about?
redistribution of wealth is generally used when the government wants to have separate tax band for the rich and poor.
how do u expect the so called senators and house of rep members to fill the gap left by drastically reducing their respective allowances. Do you even know what's included in these allowances?

The House members and the senators are less than 600 individuals. I am sure millions of un-employed graduates will like to fill the gaps left over  by our paid lawmakers for a mundane final salary of N3 MILLION a year including all expenses. I will however expect the FG to provide a permanent quarters for the legislators thus.

I think there is valid point here

The point has be answered - get rid of wastage and re-distribute, I am sure the country will be ok. Afterall Sanusi injected 600 billion into the Nigeria economy with no sight of Inflation in the horizon. I am sure we will be fine, Nigeria is a wealthy nation.
Politics › Re: Lowest Paid Nigerian Should Be Paid N200,000.00 Per Annum by KnowAll(op): 2:09pm On Dec 08, 2009
Please answer how you will deal with inflation if that figure becomes true

How do we deal with inflation at the moment.

Don’t forget our House of Reps and Senators Annual Salaries are about N1,900.000 or there about a year. But the House of Reps guys get an additional N33,000,000.00 ( 33 million extra as allowances ) while the guys in the Senate get ( 38 million extra ).

The Salary structure should be re-adjusted in that House members must not get more than N3 million including all benefits, if they don’t like it they should forget it, millions of Nigerians will like to be on that salary.

The money saved from the wastage to Ministers, Governors, State House Members, State Commissioners should be giving to the Nigeria people it works out the same. It is called re-distribution of  wealth.

Today too many people will rather be politicians than entrepreneurs in Nigeria. Because of the huge rewards u get if you are a politician

If they have kids.
your figures are based on the average brits plus not sure they'd get that much if they are claiming for working tax credit. I think they are only allowed to if they work less than 37hrs.

They get that much if husband and wife's combine income is less than £40,000 per annum u get the full wack assuming wife gets £11,000 and husband gets the same thing, they will get almost £6000.00 on tax credit.
Politics › Re: Lowest Paid Nigerian Should Be Paid N200,000.00 Per Annum by KnowAll(op): 1:44pm On Dec 08, 2009
You should get somethin gin the region of £11544 per annum.

You have to realise in the UK, the first £5,050 is tax free. If u have kids and u are on this Salary u will get tax credit of nothing less than £6,000.00 per annum therby boosting your salary from £11544.00 to about £17,000.00 even above the figure I quotes earlier which is £16,000.00

Politics › Lowest Paid Nigerian Should Be Paid N200,000.00 Per Annum by KnowAll(op): 1:32pm On Dec 08, 2009
For Nigerian to attain the levels of what can be called a developing nation the lowest paid worker should be paid N200,000.00 per Annum. I arrived at this figure based on the British Prime Minister’s Salary which is £160,000.00. Or his American Counterpart at $200,000.00 a year.

What I notice is that the lowest full time worker in the UK gets just under £16,000.00 per Annum, and the American equivalent about $20,000.00 per Annum.

Going by this statistics one can see that the lowest paid worker gets 1/ 10 th of the Salary of the Prime- Minister or President. So for Nigeria to be in this league of development nations a figure of N200,000.00 will not be an excessive over statement.

I am sure most Nigerians will be happy to get 1/20th of the Salary of the President which will be just under N100,000.00 per Annum considering Yaradua’s official Salary is about N2,000,000.00

If we take the other emerging economies like Brazil, China, India whom are more less in the same league with Nigeria albeit slightly higher, the salary ranges in these countries is between 1/20th to 1/25th of the Salary of their President.

So for all intent and purpose and realisable practicality a modest pay of N50,000.00 should be the lowest paid in the land.

Jonathan Goodluck the VP is the most popular Nigeria in google and Yahoo search engines although Individuals like Yardua, Dangote and Obasanjo has other sub- Yardua, sub-Dangote, and sub-OBJ streams by virtue of being the President, Nigerian first billionaire and ex- President, Jonathan excelled in the individual stakes.

Looks like in the wake of Yardua’s illness the whole world went amuck in search of who this guy was. I would have loved to know what Jonathan Goodluck’s hits were prior to Yardua’s illness.

Since the death of Gani, does anybody notice that this chap has upped his antics and attack on the establishment. I beleive he is one of the true crusaders for the down and trodden. Keep it up Bakare.

We all know the roles rable rousing preachers play in changing societies, Martin Luther King's " I have a dream cannot be further from the truth " nor Desmond Tutu's " Rainbow Ntion" be ignored, the more sincere and fearless men of God we have the better it will be for society at large.

Business › Re: Sanusi Incompetent To Manage CBN? by KnowAll(m): 2:01am On Dec 06, 2009
I think it is early days, the bible says nothing done in the closet will remain in the closet for ever, for those of us who beleive in judgment day everyman will give an account for his or her doings. Posterity will definately judge Sanusi, we are not sure what the banking chiefs hope to acheive by giving out those huge un-secured loans, but one thing we are certain and sure of, was  despite the distress some of the banks were said to be going through there were no limitations on withdrawals.

Something is definately wrong here, inspite of the bail out, only last week some banks were limiting withdrawals. Something is definately clear, it is either Sanusi has unravelled a frankestein monster that is now uncontrollable which would invariably ground the whole economy to a halt or he is embarking on his own banking reforms.

I hope it is the latter rather than the former. Already Share-holders have being short changed, a scenerio that has made many potential Investors in the Nigeria economy to hold and divert their cash to other economies. If this is not destructive to the economy what else can be further from the truth.
Politics › Re: Are You All Not Tribalists? by KnowAll(m): 1:23am On Dec 06, 2009
Blatant tribalist topics should be abhorred, I personally treat the posters and the contributors of such vile and insensitive topics with disdain, they are the scums of the earth. Why would any reasonable and normal person log on line with the sole aim of having a pot-shot at another person's tribe. There can only be 2 kinds of contributors to this kinds of threads, bored teneegers who are bored at home and feel like getting a kick by bashing other tribes or dimwits who have nothing to contribute on any thread anyway.

But to fight the corner for the advancement of your tribe is not in anyway tribalistic.  I see that as a strategic positve engagements with the powers that need be. The case for Enugu airport comes to the shore on this, the igbos arguing the importance and necessity for an up-grade for this facility have a point and I can sympathasize and identify with their fustration, causes like this are worth fighting for.
Politics › Re: Are You All Not Tribalists? by KnowAll(m): 9:44pm On Dec 05, 2009
I don't think so, maybe in Nigeria because we do things backwards like we're still back in the stone age.

Intelligent and rational positioning is good for politics, not tribalism. Tribalism allows you to shortchange yourself and the people you took oaths to serve, protect and look out for. Tribalism allows you to blur the difference between right and wrong.

People like u should be in a class-room with a chalk in hand, your stance above here is a classical text - book answer of how politics needs to be played. I am afraid that stance does not hold water even in western countries let alone a country that is not even a teenager in democracy.

The powers that need be in the North are now scrambling for the post of the VP as suppose to the Presidency b4 the threat by JRC. The threat may however be empty but the message got across.   undecided
Politics › Re: Are You All Not Tribalists? by KnowAll(m): 9:24pm On Dec 05, 2009
Tribal positioning is good for politics, it is one of the antecedents of politics. Politicians are not called political animals for nothing otherwise a more mundane term like political saints would have being a common and acceptable phrase in Politics. This is game not for the less discerning, provocative utterances and threat are some of the tools employed by politicians to test the water and weigh public opionion. So are the act of mis-quotation,  ambuigity and statement withdrawal, are what counteracts  the initial threatning stance.

A balance is required on how to use these 2 tools effectively without a total fall out. We saw it displayed this week, when JRC declared the SS region will seceede from the polity of Nigeria,  only for MEND to dis-own and rubbish them saying they are only voices of cyber-space. The most important thing is the cat has being let out of the bag, and the message has being passed to those threatning the VP with a force resignation.

Those powers who ever they are had to succumb and admit that history is actually unfolding b4 their very eyes and the question or doubt of the VP becomeing the President is a fait accompli that is unshakeable any thought to the contrary will not only be mutinious but a flagrant declaration of open hostilities.

Your analogy, computation or positioning may well have hit a brick wall. The Authorities both the FEC, the NASS, and PDP Stalwarts of Northern or Southern extraction are too scared to shake the spoon that feeds them. There is at this moment, a rather openly unabiased loyalty to the powers that need be, even though such loyalty if qureid thoroughly one will find that they are superficial.

It will take the hand of God to unravell the log-jam we have found ourselves, a desire that will bring a huge sign of releif to the scare crows in Goverment. We all pray this devine intervention happens quickly now rather than later otherwise the status quo remains the same - nothing for Jonathan and invariably nothing for SE. undecided

Lagos is not a State where someone becomes a Governor and folds his arms. 90 % of the press and are based in Lagos.

It is the most industrialised, civilised and literate state in Nigeria. A non performer at Alausa will be the butt of jokes by Naija stand-up comedians.

If Tinubu was in Oyo State he cannot be any better than Akala, infact I will think Akala edge him at least, by providing driving jobs for graduates.
Politics › Re: Appoint President And Vp From Same Region. by KnowAll(op): 10:32am On Dec 04, 2009
This has been our major problem.
why can't a competent  person do the Job irrespective of his tribe, ethnicity, religious affiliation, or any other worthless parameter.?

The Key word is policy, policy, policy. I tell you, if someone sets up his own party, and promise every un-employed Nigeria from School cert upwards Job Seekers Allowances,  that is putting money in people’s pocket, you will realise that  irrespective of where the politician comes from every Nigerian will listen to that person and vote him into office. Any gentleman’s agreement will be another irrelevant document and Gentleman’s agreement it remains.

The kind of politics we practise in Nigeria does not add any value to the man on the street. For Instance with the advent of the Credit Crunch in the UK, the British government through her Central Bank, reduced interest rate from 5% to 0.5%, that singular act has put enough cash in a lot of people's pocket.

Same thing can happen in Nigeria, most Nigerians will like to own their own car, cut down the IMPORT DUTIES on cars, that will be a good policy statement for Nigerians and a vote winner.
Politics › Re: Appoint President And Vp From Same Region. by KnowAll(op): 10:08am On Dec 04, 2009
So there is no "gentleman's agreement" over the presidency? There is no such thing as quota system and federal character? Me thinks you need to go look at the tenets of an open democracy. Please stop being disengenuine, it is very irritating and you have a propensity for it, I need to stop joining issues with you because it really is futile.

What has gentleman’s agreement got to do with your own personal ambition of being the President. If you think everybody from Jigawa State to Ekiti State will vote for u en-mass irrespective of what agreement is on the table, then go for it.

The problem with a lot of Nigerians is that they fail to realise theoretically we have open democracy, but in practise it is another cup of tea.
Politics › Re: Scrap 36 States Now —anyaoku by KnowAll(m): 5:17pm On Dec 03, 2009
How many states can currently survive without the assistance of the federal government? So you want more defunct states and less money available for the federal government to support such states

You are missing the point here, who is the FG, it is a contraption formed in our mind to be some super monster that has money brewing out of every crack of its body. My friend the money FG is spending anyhow is our common-wealth. It is up to us as nation to work out a formula where the common wealth of the Nigerian nation will be distributed fairly and equitable.

At the moment the FG is taking too much from the pie, that formula must be revisited, the sooner that is done the better it will be.
Politics › Re: Appoint President And Vp From Same Region. by KnowAll(op): 5:08pm On Dec 03, 2009
I'll take open democracy any day over this contrived contraption, that way, anybody can run and we can choose the best man for the job.

The word open democracy is foreign to Africans and cannot be employed in a multi cultural state like Nigeria. Who told you we dont have open democracy, is anybody holding u back from running for any post u fancy. I dont think so undecided
Politics › Re: Appoint President And Vp From Same Region. by KnowAll(op): 4:55pm On Dec 03, 2009
i guess other ethnic groups like the jukun or nupe do not exist

That is just an example, there is only 3 post President, VP and Senate President. We have over 20 major tribes in the North, of course there will be a lot of Politicking and formation of aliinaces, if all the Yorubas of Kogi and Kwara, and the Igalas and the Southern Kadunas prefer a Jukun they pull votes together to make it happen, if they prefer a Nupe they do the same thing.

Nobody loses out in the long run, because every tribe is already reprensted in the HSA anyway.
Politics › Re: Scrap 36 States Now —anyaoku by KnowAll(m): 4:46pm On Dec 03, 2009
We need about 50 States, I dont think we have enough States at the moment. We had 57 Provinces or there about during Colonialism, some of those Provinces are not yet States, the earlier they become States the better. Ogoja Province, Ijebu Province and a few others  comes to mind.

The revenue formula must be reviwed, the 55 % taking by the Federal Goverment must be cut to about 35% and giving to the States. All Roads within a State should be build, mantained and repaired by the State Goverment. The Federal Authorities should build and maintain roads linking one state to another.

All Universities , Secondary Schools should be handed over to the States, can u imagine FG in Abuja being responsible for Kings College in Lagos a Secondary school. It is not on.  The Federal Govement should wash it hands of Radio and Televesion Brodcasting that should be handled by the private sectors.

Airports should be in the hands of Private sector. Police  Should be handed over to States except the Fedral High Road Patrol who will patrol inter state high ways or the FCT Police based in Abuja. That is my take  undecided
Politics › Re: Appoint President And Vp From Same Region. by KnowAll(op): 4:19pm On Dec 03, 2009
OP's suggestion is predicated on the assumption that regional-power rotation is a panacea for our bad governance. Since his initial lemma is shaky, its not worth considering any arguments built on top of it. Anything other than a meritocratic system of Govt for Naija shouldn't be given a second thought.

Meritocarcy could mean the President / VP and other top funtionaries will come from one particular tribe in a multi- cultural nation like ours it will not work. Meritocracy works in Japan because they are Japanese, it works in America because they Americans, it works in Germany because they are Germans.

There are no Nigerians, the word Nigerian was coined from the River Niger, the nearest to Nigerians are Nigerians from Niger State and they are not Nigerians they are Gwaris, Nupes or Hausa / Fulanis.

@owl11 & wirint

No system can eradicate nepotism even the western countries are rife with nepotism. At least with this system we will not be in the impasse we are now.

I love democarcy, and the last thing I want is for men and women of Nigeria to wake up on Saturday morning and some strange fellow annoucing that they have over-thrown the govetment of Yardua.

This system allows for continiuty, the jukuns and tivs and the Hausa  / Fulani have a shared history of all being under the Saedauna. Is it not only recently that Solomon Lar a briom / and a christain from Plateau State was praisning the effortless energy of the Saundana in running Northern Nigeria.

If these comardrie exsits in the North we should not ignore it, we should use to the advantage of the Nation. Dont forget we still have Senators and House of Reps men from every part of the country in the National House of Assembly making sure the Presidency is not up to any hanky - panky or Power drunk,  that is sufficient checks and balances.

Plus the added fact that ministers will still  come from every State in the fedration. It is not as if the North will be ruling the roost in its entirety.

All those your political gymnastics and gimmicks cannot work. History has shown again and again that the only panacea for a stable society is Fairness, Justice and equity, any other thing will lead to instability and underdevelopment.

If the answer to a peaceful political arrangement is coming from the same region, why are governors and their deputies also at each other's throats, since our democratic experiment started in 1999, i cannot remember how times governors and their deputies parted ways, even in Lagos.

Maybe you should suggest President and vice president and Governors and deputy governors should be members of the same family to ensure trust; but will even that solve the problem? Imagine Andy Uba as Governor and Chris Uba as deputy Governor, that would be a good sequel to the film "Clash of the Titans".

Sorry, i forgot to ask you this vital question.

Who will do the appointing?, members of the region the president and the vice comes from, members of the traditional king makers (Arewa), or we should waste time, money and energy organizing "an arrangee election" .

What I am proposing will auger well for both the majority tribes and the minority tribes. For Instance we all know come 2011 the North has the slot, I can gurantee that this slot will be filled by the core North Hausa / Fulani to the detriment of the other Minority tribes in the North like Yorubas,Igbira,  Igalas, Tivs, Biroms, Nupe, Kanuri and Southern Kaduna Christains.

In the present system the core Northern President is suppose to work with a Southern, an Islamist Hausa man to work with a Southerner even if u put a gun to his head he will never trust those infidels as non muslims are known all over the world,  yet we are happily practising this marriage of convienence, we Southerners thinking to ourselves at least a Southerner is the VP.

Have we actually sat down and found out the true meaning of Minister without portfolio that is the role of the VP in this dspensation , it is not working. This the second President that will not get along with his VP it means something is amiss somewhere.

Your arguement that Deputy Governors are fighting theire bosses does not hold water, it is one of the few things that makes us human, at times we need to disagree to agree. Even the biggest looters in some States in the last dispensation,  the James Ibori, Odili's, of this world are not at logger heads with the present Governors of those States.

Out of the 36 Governors of the last dispensation how many have being probed by their sucesscors.

The Appointment will be done the same way is done now through the primary elections system in the Parties example

PDP - Hausa / Fulani - President

Nupe - Vice President

Senate President - Tiv

AC - might up for - Kanuri - President

Igala - Vice President

Hausa / Fulani - Senate President

ANPGG - Tiv - President

Yoruba - Vice President

Senate President - Hausa / Fulani

Primaries will be conducted in each party to choose the right guys for each of those Jobs.
Politics › Re: Babatunde Fashola For President by KnowAll(m): 1:17pm On Dec 03, 2009
Fashola can never be President,

1. He is not a member of a National Party

2. AC will probably capture Lagos State and maybe Anambra State if PDP don’t rig the election for Soludo. I am actually struggling to mention a 3rd State AC will win.

3. He has chosen the part of opposition and whoever choose the part of opposition will not taste power nationally but only regionally like Awolowo no wonder the younger Awolowo’s embrace the ruling and national party.

4. The SW has already produced a President.

5. Amongst the heavy weights who are in opposition he comes after Buhari, Atiku, his boss Tinubu , Bafarawa. Any chance for Fashola getting the Presidential nod over the aforementioned after his stint in Lagos State is minimal.

6. If you don’t play the lottery u don’t win the top price and since Fashola does not belong to PDP, I cannot see how he can be President, I will bet my last penny that individual’s like Fani- Kayode will probably get the top Job b4 Fashola.

Does anyone seriously think Virgin Atlantic or BA will fly direct from London to Jalingo, or London to Akure, let the market forces determine which Airports should be International and which should be local or domestic.

Within a 6 months period all the airports would have gotten the baptism they deserve rather than politicising the whole thing to the detriment of one tribe or the other
