That is the most encouraging statement I have ever heard or read from a law enforcement body anywhere in the world. This statement confirms to us that PDP are a bunch of clowns who are only intrested in lining their own pockets, the safety of the citizenry as far as these confident ritualist in the Ogun house are concerned can be compromised as they have not only taking an oath that will ward away the fangs of these men of the underworld but also keep at arms lenght their political enemies.

Nigeria's Economy May Out Grow South Africa's Economy By 2012 - Sanusi

As long as all the Bode Goerge’s in PDP, are behind bars. N84 Billion or $500 dollars million will build the Cape Town world cup Stadium, Joborg Stadium and the Durban Stadium. Otherwise in 2012, Nigeria will be worse than pirate prone and war ravaged Somalia if care is not taken.

I do not agree with you that the rot of the past 8 years should be covered because of ''capitalism'' or whatever
foggy theories you are trying to create. Is there no criminal offence in capitalism? Banks are not the biggest employer
and from what we know now, the consolidation exercise was not thorough and people have lost money because the
banks sexed up their annual reports , people bought shares, and many are now regretting.

I sincerely hope you are not working in a bank, as your idea of capitalism and banking cannot make you a prophet to your branch
manager, not to talk of Nigeria.

This does not make sense u have a shop in Lagos and one in Accra. The Regulators in Lagos now sack your bosses justifying and insisting to the public that your company is in a serious and dire state, declaring that it is just a matter of weeks b4 it collapses completely.

Yet this is a business u have successfully ran for 8 years, made a profit, paid dividends in those 8 years from the profit and open other branches in Nigeria and the West African coast.

The regulators in Ghana do not see anything wrong with your operation in their country, if anything else, they are actually thankful and grateful for the jobs u have created in their economy.

Don’t u think the Authorities in Nigeria has a hidden agenda, they are only masking their evil plans with fancy words like distress banks, excessive withdrawal from expanded discount window and so on. There is something seriously wrong with that country, tribalism has eaten into every facet of that society even the right to trade as a capitalist is now subject to tribalism, may God help us.

You have landed now. If you have a grouse against Dangote and want to vent it on Sanusi, goodluck .

It is the Almighty that made them Muslims and northerners. No one has attributed the allegations levied

on the bank Cecilia or Ubong to their being southerners or christians. And ditto for Ololo &co.

Why can't you guys avoid looking at issues without bigotry?

This is a waste of enlightenment.

I have no grouse to grind with or against Dangote, in fact I am proud that he is the 1st pioneer billionaire in our generation and he is the richest black man in the world.

Certain things are above our control in a true capitalist society, u can be a penniless pauper one day and the next day u are a billionaire. There is no doubt that the Cecelia Ibrus and the Akningbola’s are billionaires in their own right too by virtue of the fact that they own majority shares in their institutions.

How did they acquire these shares that is a question that should have being answered 8 years ago during the capitalisation exercise, and in any event, if such questions are to be entertained then such questions should also be thrown to the Dangote’s too.

The 25 capitalised banks have being in existence for 8 good years not one depositor has lost 1 kobo, neither has any share-holder large or small, being out of pocket.

Why is the CBN killing the economy, the largest employer in Nigeria after the government are Nigeria Banks.

My work colleague in London to told me her sister has gone back to Ghana to work. He said she got a fantastic Job in a Nigerian Bank in Accra Ghana. A pastor or priest they say is not respected in his home town that is the case of Nigeria.

Im not concerned with your view on Sanusi. . . . Im concerned with the unutterable jargon you are spewing above about corruption and thievery being par for the course for capitalism. . . . it is shameful that in this day and age, a so-called enlightened fellow could excuse such thievery by drawing inane comparisons with their counterparts in the political sphere. . .

The Central Bank of Nigeria – CBN

The Central Sugar of Nigeria – CSN

Why the capitalist in the SW Nigeria and the South in general have to contend with this monster regulatory body called CBN led by Islamist Sanusi, the Northern Feudalist have no regulatory body regulating the Sugar or Cement trade or Textile Industry.

The history of modern banking started in the gold fields of California, when prospectives take the gold dust found in the fields to the banks to be valued and change to cash. The Banks also offered services such as safe keeping of prospective’s money for a nominal fee.

That is how modern Banking started, they were capitalist, the Federal Reserve Bank never dabbled with what they did with their profits.

History of Well Fargo one of Californias oldest bank.

In 1852 Henry Wells and William Fargo founded Wells, Fargo & Co. to serve the West. The new company offered banking (buying gold, and selling paper bank drafts as good as gold) - and express (rapid delivery of the gold and anything else valuable).

Wells Fargo opened for business in the gold rush port of San Francisco, and soon Wells Fargo’s agents opened offices in the other new cities and mining camps of the West. In the boom and bust economy of the 1850s, Wells Fargo earned a reputation of trust by dealing rapidly and responsibly with people’s money. In the 1860s, it earned everlasting fame - and its corporate symbol - with the grand adventure of the overland stagecoach line.

The economy of Lagos and the SW is anchored on and buoyed by the success of the banks, with the capitalisation of the banks by Soludo, the Banks effectively belong to the Share-Holders. Unfortunately the CEO’s and their cronies by virtue of inside information commandeered majority shares making them the Majority Share Holders, why people like me and you end up being minority Share-holders.

No depositors or Share-holder prior to Sanusi becoming Governor have lost 1 kobo. The Profit of the banks belong to the Share-holders and they decide in their Annual General meeting how it will be apportioned and dispensed. Unfortunately since majority of the shares belong to the CEO’s and their cronies, most of the profit made goes to them, and me and you get the crumbs. Are we complaining, hell no, at least we got something.

Look at Dangote Sugar because there is no regulatory body controlling what is happening in the Sugar trade or Cement trade he is smiling all the way to the bank.

What I sense here is pure jealousy and envy by Sanusi, he does not want to get at me or u the small share-holders he want to get at the big fish, that is why he said that investors have lost their investment in all those banks, who will feel it the most the ex CEO’s.

Sanusi is not a banker, not a Capitalist, nor is he serving my or your interest he is out on a vendetta to get his southern bank colleagues, why is he doing this, I don’t know, but one can sense serious abuse of power and authority by this semi-illiterate of a Governor, who has let his personal views encroach on his public persona as a governor of a revered and trusted institution like the CBN.

The banking Industry is an easy target, the Politicians are untouchable, can you imagine a man that stole N84 billion or $500 million dollars of public funds Bode George sentenced to only 2 years in prison, meanwhile our CBN Governor wants them to shoot the former CEO’s who are majority share-holders in their own business.

Nobody can touch Dangote because there is no big brother regulatory authority like the CBN who is giving him all this bull-shit about distress bank or Company nonsense. It is all hot air by Sanusi and not an iota of truth in what he is saying my own personal view I must stress.

Sanusi is just saying saying what everyone is thinking but he should learn to choose his words more carefully.

It is imperative that the full details of alleged corruption in the banking sector is trashed out in the public domain, so we can decide for ourselves if the crimes committed deserve capital punishment, an indefinite sentence, a definite sentence or community service . . . . with 75% of the loans actually being given by these CEO's to themselves, my personal view is that they should recieve nothing less than the Chinese treatment for corruption.

We all know u are a well known Sanusi apologist, hence your comments above.

Shocking!!!

Alamieyeseigha is also a capitalist as is Obasanjo and other rulers we've had.

The difference between the fraud perpetuated by politicians and the bankers is simple. The politicians like OBJ Awards a contract worth N16 Billion Naira for railway regeneration yet not a grain of sand was shifted to the site to show any semblance of constructional activities.

Meanwhile Cecelia Ibru or Eratus Akingbola will give a dude company a loan, the dude company will buy the land in say Ondo Town or Bida Town or Afikpo Town, build the bank building and let it out to the Bank using Akingbola’s or Cecelia’s dude company name.

What is the net effect of this economic activity albeit rules and regulations have been broken and compromised.

1. Creation of Employment in those 3 localities

2) Increase in banking revenues by people that will be using the bank for all sort of activities

3) Provision of loan facilities to those with the right collateral in the locality even though the same law doesn’t apply to them when they were drawing the loan down in the first place.

4) Generally uplifting of the economic activities the area
.

What is the net effect of OBJ’s action Nil

The problem with u women in Europe u want to monitor your husband’s every move, a friend told me in Nigeria when he is going out his wife gives him condoms, that is a woman that understand.

Men are generally hunters the fact that they sleep with 1,2 or 3 women outside wedlock does not mean they do not love their wife’s it is just to let out steam by trying variety . Somebody once told me whenever he bones a woman outside he shags his wife like no tomorrow when he gets home.

So woman don’t get worked up, it is a stage and it will passover. In fact it is what they call the 7 years stage when most marriages break up. If u can hold on a little longer u will not regret it I can gurantee u, don’t forget your husband is also getting old, and these kind of behaviour will be dropped like a bad habit as time goes on,

So you admit crime was committed BUT however you are insisting it is a small crime and should be waived as it is the 'tenets of capitalism'.

I think the Judge that sentenced Kenneth Lay would  beg to differ.

I just don't understand how awarding inflated contracts to my company as Governor of a state is different from giving my son a loan he doesn't plan to pay back. All with monies that do not belong to me.

All these atrocities u mentioned have being going on for good 8 years and not a single one of them went under, how come 2 months after the new man took over the same institution that has not gone under in 8 years is suddenly about to collapse in a matter of weeks.

We wait until the case is entertained in our courts when all will be revealed without any information held back and we hope the courts will not fault in its constitutional duties and responsibility

Who is the Liar and Who is the Fraudster

There goes my Investment at Oceanic bank, If I had known the money used for this particular investment would have served me well by using it as a deposit for that beautiful Jeep that I have always wanted,  but I chose like a patriotic Nigeria to heed to the clarion call of the then President of Nigeria for more diaspoaras to invest in their home country. To think that the share holders equity is lost for ever according to our new CBN boss is not only disheartning but also draining both mentally, physically and even sexually ( couldn't get it up last night with the mrs dont let anyone hear that one oh!!).[/size]

Although I refuse to belief, nor fathom or either speculate what this Mallam of a Governor is trying to do. One thing is clear about his latest utterances today, It  was not a well thought off statement, his rantings oooops I mean his gaffs appears as an off the cuff slip of tongue comment or a misquoted statement except that on this occasion, it was actually a press confrence and a valid " quoted statement" .

I am afraid this administratiion including the Governor have indicted themselves, they have not only confirmed their ineptitude to the whole world, but they have actually gone one step further by showing the whole world that they do have a strange sense of humour which makes them look and sound like a bunch of clowns.

This administration is under scrutiny all their efforts at rebranding seem only to confirm my worst fear that they are actiually clowns, perharps Sanusi might end up being my choice as the chief clown on my little daughter's upcoming birthday, his antics are not only mind boggling but he consistently appears to have a bag full of new tricks, only God knows what next he will suprise us with.

It is clear as day light that serious fraud has being perpetuated in the banking sub-sector of the economy so we were told, It took this new Governor less than 3  months to uncover the supposedly unethical banking practises that has become the bane of our society today.

The views and action of this Mallam is a total contrast and a 360o degree turn around from that of his predecessor. One thing can be certain,  Nigerians are not Kindergaten kids, we think, have brains and we surely know our left from our right. It is an indisputable fact that one of these Gentlemen is being economic with the truth, one of them is either a big time fraudster and an economic sabotaurer or a professional Liar, one thing we can be rest assured of, is,  one can be guranteed that they cannot both be the telling the truth.

The Nigerian masses cannot sit on the fence on this issue anymore, the guilty one should be apprehended quickly and prosecuted without much ado, white cannot also be black nor yellow red. White is White and Black is Black, while Yellow is Yellow and not Red, the masses want to stop turning the other cheek for a slap nor do we want to be hoodwinked any longer than necessay, even though we are powerless to act, the time has come when the wheat has to be seperated from the chaffs the truth has to be told, the authorities should stop this hidesously annoying hide and
seek game and deal with the crux of the matter.

Certain Issues need to be address and conclusions drawn

Banking Crisis, Distress Bank, Excessive withdrawal from the Expanded Discount Window, are some of the new lexicon and words Nigerians have picked up within the last 8 months. And the last but not the least " Quantitative Easing " this is the one that excites our Governor the most, this one gave the rudderless and directionless Governor the confidence to go and print money, we have always suspected and knew that printing money was the only most succesful thriving business North of Rivers Niger and Benue.

The mordern economies of the west in no other country than the UK/USA did not help matters by making it cool to print money by endorsing and adopting a rather unfamiliar and rarely use policy to increase money supply in their respective economies.

Our Governor realising that what has being hidden from the public gaze can now be unravelled, since it has become a norm and standard practise all over the world. Mr Sanusi joined the bandwagon of Quantitative easing enthusiast he lachted  on at this controversial policy with the swagger and confidence of master gambler without the fear of sounding and appearaing as a Robert Mugabe look alike nor the approval of our over-fed, over-paid and under-worked buffons in the National House of Assembly, neither did he seek approval from the man in Oxygen tank, oh I mean the man in instensive care in Aso Rock. His tactis has worked perfactly well up till now, some of us were begining to think that this soft spoken gentleman must be a genius.

Then came the press confrence and our high and mighty Governror cocked up, first he insinuated that the Bank CEO's should be tied to a stake and shot, these guys no matter what they did they have not being found guilty by a law court how did Mr Governor arrive at the final verdict when the accuse have not even enter a plea, I thought this man was an educated man.

Secondly  the Governor have forgotten the first rule of the riot act with regards to share holders equity in a limited liability company. For investors to lose their stake in a limited liabilty company that company must be liquidated and insolvency and bankruptcy laws will then be applicable. I am not too sure whether these distressed banks have gone through this particular circle.

At a closer look and inspection of the fortunes of these so called distress banks something cynical and contrary to our all mighty Governor's assertion seem to permeates from the evidence gathered, it will appear weeks before the axe fell on those CEO's some of the so called distress banks were still opening new branches all over the country. How could they be embarking on such capital intensive projects when they are only weeks from collasping. I smell a conspiracy here. The books of the these frims need to be opened to the public, I assume it will be revealed in the courts when prosecution begins. We hope the courts will not be patial and will live up to its reputaion of neutrality and impartiality.

The International Branches of some of these banks especially in Ghana are still waxing strong in that economy, large bill boards adorn everywhere in Accra and the message seems to be the same. Loans are available for customers with little or no fuss. This kind of advert starts making one to engage one's sense properly and positively rather than swallow and regurgitate everything that the press throws at you, the conspiracy theories seem to make sense in the light of so many evidence that these banks could not have being distressed as the press and the Governor makes us believe.

I even thougt of what happened last year, I can remember,  I still collected my diviend from Oceanic Bank from the profit they declared, could the profit have come from the Expanded Discount Window. All shall be revealed and the culprit between Sanusi and Soludo will be identified. If I were Soludo I put these Gubernatorial election thing on hold and let the dust settle on this one first.

Surely someone between these 2 genltemen Soludo and Sanusi is not telling us the truth, we the masses and share-holders we demand the truth, it is either Soludo is tried for treason because what the bank chief executive have done can only be comparable to treason or Sanusi on the other hand is telling us fables and fairy tales bed time stories meant for his daughters he should desist from such act, he cannot be toying and playing with the emotions of Nigerians, even though Nigerians have always being law abiding and docile in their misdemeanour that should not be taken for granted.

You are both morally and inetellectually inepte and your inadequacy is so glaring and hapless that it bothers me what kind of dunces are our universities are producing nowadays, you latch at any argument in other to buttress your hollow and vulnerable points, what a complete idiot.  Below are a catalogue of your rather embarassing and clueless arguments.

The gentle man in the article I posted an Alhaji recognises his heritage and is aggreived with the SL govt for not recognising his inherent tribe, this are not my words but the argument of a marginalised tribe in SL, yet u keep on questioning the man's heritage, what a daft argument are u saying this gentleman man of between the ages of 65 to 70 years old does know what he was talking about. To remind u again below is the extract of what the man said again for your re-collection.

I think that the failure of the government to recognize Yoruba as one of the national languages was one of the pivotal agents that is killing the Yoruba people and language in this country,” Alhaji argued.

3. to seize (a vehicle) by force or threat of force.  - hYJACK TO SEIZE VECHILE BY FORCE I DONT HAVE TO TEACH U ENGLISH. THE SHIPS WERE SEIZED AND THE CARGOS DISLOGED IN FREETOWN

I use the word hyjacked, u questioned the validity of the word insisting that the word capture should be the right word, I had to post a dictionary meaning of why and how the word hyjack can be employed in buttressing my point, when u realiese your folly u kept quite, I am not in this forum to teach u English.

@KnowAll

Ok, they are bleeping Yoruba or whatever,

When I pointed out what the Alhaji said u agreed, your postings is clear here, that brings me to the question since u have accepted that they are Yorubas why go on harping on about the validity of their tribe again, dont u think this is the hight of buffonery and hypocrisy. This boy must be a utter and complete dullard.

Tell them my sister.

@knowall

Thats from a Sierra Leonean.
What part of your forlorn argument is left? Both the moral and tribalistic angles have been neutered

A lady from Sirrea Leone comes out and tells u that Yoruba's are known as or called a certain name in their country, u latch on that argument like a patient in dire need of life support in other to justify your point. Dont u know the Yoruba tribe predates the state of Seirra Leone, Yorubas have being in existence 1000 years b4 the colonial contraption called Seirra Leone, please think b4 u leap. Just like the Igbo tribe in Nigeria how many Yorubas call them Igbos. Let me remind u what Igbos are called in Yorubaland 1. Omo Ibo, 2. Okoro 3. Nna 4. Ajeokuta ma mo mi 5. Kuriki 6, and quite recently Igwe.

Mordern SL can call Yorubas shit or arse for all I care it does not change the the inherent heritage of these people.

Lastly stick to the subject matter, this thread is not about African Americans, Compensation for SLAVERY or Slave Trade itself. It is about small group of Yoruba Muslims leaving in SL.

Its a sensitive issue alright but not one we can hide from. Actually, its one of the points that the African Americans will raise anytime U enter into any kind of discourse with them on issues concerning race and heritage.

The topic on this thread is not about African- Americans but about Yoruba Muslims I suggest u go read the link file on Page 1.

Why sweep it under the rug? It happened, it happened and yes, we as a race have to bear some of the responsibility or at least acknowledge that we didnt do our best to protect our own. That our fore fathers were involved in slave trade didnt and wouldnt in anyway make it right and it is not self defeacation in any form or manner if someone decides to discuss about what happened.

All what u are talking about here is completely different from the Afro-America experience, here we have uncovered a treasure of information about the mystery of this muslim Yoruba’s who have being living in isolation in SL. I think anybody who has a vague interest in anthropology will find this topic to be exciting and incredible.

I will suggest u familiarise your self with the story they are not in my own words.

The Sierra Leone Creole (or Krios) are an ethnic group in Sierra Leone, they are descendants of West Indian slaves from the Caribbean, primarily ( from Jamaica) and freed African American slaves from the United States[1], which landed in Freetown between 1787 and 1855 (or possibly as late as 1860).[1] . Sierra Leone's capital Freetown was founded by the British as a settle for the Krios in 1787. They make up about 5.8% of the Sierra Leone's total population (about 377,003 people), and they live primarily in the capital Freetown and its surrounding Western Area.

There are 2 types of slaves in Freetown

1. The Nova Scotians these are people brought back from Nova Scotia and other places in the new world.

2. Those that the abolitionist hijacked their ship on the high seas and since they don’t know which coast in Africa they came from they were all       dumped at Freetown. The Yoruba Muslims fall into these category.

3. The Nova Scotians where the true Krios they formed the core creole community.

4. Don’t say people are ignorant without getting your facts right it makes u look stupid.

For goodness sake, these people where sold into slavery!

But never left the shores of Africa, they can still identify with their tribes, customes and Language, they are not like black Americans.

We should welcome them with open hands to unite with their kith and kin in Nigeria. They are not any lesser a Yoruba man than a Yoruba man from Osogbo or Ibadan.

All these permutations remains nothing but conspiracy theory. I will not lose my sleep over such elaborate hypothesis.

These people are not even Yoruba. They are the descendants of slaves and their language is a mixture of various West African languages.

What is wrong with Nigerians? This is a sickening disgrace!

Little Ghana has long since done a lot to welcome back those that they sold into slavery. Here, fools are talking about the "strength" of their culture. What strength? Selling your blood?

They are Yorubas,  you heard from the Alhaji himself, the only reson they are denying their heritage is becos the SL govt view them as foriegners. See extract below.

I think that the failure of the government to recognize Yoruba as one of the national languages was one of the pivotal agents that is killing the Yoruba people and language in this country,” Alhaji argued.

“I think that the failure of the government to recognize Yoruba as one of the national languages was one of the pivotal agents that is killing the Yoruba people and language in this country,” Alhaji argued.
He disclosed that he could not speak the language as fluently as he wished to and it is getting worse with their own children.
“We found out now that we have to claim Creole and speak krio to properly identify ourselves in Sierra Leone other than that we are Yoruba and Nigerians (foreigners).
On the other hand it is actually interesting and peculiar for us Muslim Yorubas to claim ourselves as creoles with Muslim names like Mohamed Cole, Mucktaru Pearce, Osman Thomas, Saptieu King.
The Christian Creoles always think that they are the pure and original Creole people, but actually we are all brothers and sisters and came from the same origin with the same culture.” Alhaji Hamid explained.

Another point this thread is about the Yoruba Muslim a sub-group of all Yorubas in SL, they maintained a close knit community amongst themselves for a very long time not until very recently when they started assimilating with the larger community.

See extract as to why the Muslim Yorubas had to abandon their language and assimilate with the Krio Community above.

dont really think the SL "Yorubas" are lost anyway, since they know their history to some extent. The thread title is misleading.

For someone to be truly lost, they'd have to be totally unaware of their origins, imo. Like those Roanoke Indians.

and if thats the case, then practically everybody is lost.

They are lost and disconnected from mainstream Yorubas because they have lost the ability to speak the language even with their own unique dialect, on like the Yorubas of Republic of Benin.

The only connection they have with Yoruba’s today are they still have their Yoruba names and use some Yoruba words like “ odaboh – bye bye “, “ekuseh – welldone “ and “aso ebi” – in celebrations like marriages and funerals when the immediate family and extended family put on the same clothes in other to distinguish themselves from other attendees.

They also see and call themselves Krios rather than Yoruba’s otherwise the SL govt will not recognise them as citizens of SL but as foreigners.

Obviously a renaissance is required for them to re-claim their heritage back, but whether that awareness and  movement has started remains to be seen.

Goes to all the people that find it supremely difficult to make any logical contribution on this topic but would rather introduce diversions and irrelevant comments and lies just to make us take our eyes off the core issues.

Why do u like dig yourself into a big hole just opening your big gob anyhow, I thought I have dealt with u, that reply by your compatriot is the most illogical statement I have ever come across " that Biafra and Ojukwu " are not inter connected or inter-related can u please supply me with any Biafra thread that has not got that man's name enmeshed in it.

It is like seperating a tortoise or a snail from its shell. If Ojukwu has moved on, u depleted soldiers I urge u guys move on with your lives.

Is that the most important pressing problem facing the nation at this point in time, the constitutional conference they were suppose to deliberate, recommend and rectify has being suspended until further notice, they are talking of immigration, they should be glad at least it means one less mouth too feed for every migrant that leaves the country and one more Naira in their pockets.

@Onlytruth

It doesn’t matter whether Nnewi was physically routed by federal troops or they surrendered willingly, the bottom-line is, uprising and any hostility came to an abrupt end.

So my advice to u will be, albeit belated since your Generalissimo did not communicate it down the chain of command in his haste to jump the sinking ship called Biafra. I will say it now to you without mincing my words move on with your life as he has moved on with his.

The amount of time u commit dwelling on a spent and dead issue will not do some individuals like Soludo any favours.

You and your kith and kin should be routing for him rather than holding onto a delusional idea of Biafra, If the Igbo stock throw their weight behind this gentleman he may well be our next President since his clout and personality will be accepted in all Geo-Political zones.

Although having said that,  I have my own personal reservations about him, but who am I to hold progress and determine the destiny of an Individual.

When will people get that Biafra was and will never be about Gen. Ojukwu?

I don’t blame u for this statement if your brother-in-law was a sitting governor, what am I saying, a Chairman/ Councillor in one of the numerous LG in the 5 Igbo States u will be singing a different tune just like your Generalissimo. Nigeria will be the best thing since slice bread was discovered
