One of the major problems we face in Nigeria is misinformation or wrong information based on wrong premises and assumptions. Do you know who the governor of Abia State is? If yes, is he a PDP member? If no, then what has the issue of 1st lady of Abia state doing in your post above? It makes sense that Theordore Orji is not part of the Campaign team and better still he is not a PDP member, I mistook him for the guy in Imo State my mistake. It will be dis-honorable for the Presidency to Include a suspected rogue and fraudster amongst a high powered committee even if were a PDP member. ![]() |
The Man of God should be able do more if he is blessed beyond scalable measurement, but men being men are fallible and have always being found wanton. I will not begrudge the Man of God for buying a Private Jet, after all it is within the remit of being a Christian to ask for whatever you want and it will be giving, seek and one will find, knock at doors and many doors will open, but I will begrudge him if the flocks he herds over are living and experience a miserable life in other to attend a session in far away Ogun State. Has he really taken stock of their welfare, what steps is he taking at moving the mass bodies of humans from places like Ojota, Oshodi and Yaba in Lagos to 20 km out of town. Are they ferried for free or subsidies from the pick-up locations in the city to the camps. As I am not a member of that church it will be wrong to assume all these aspect of embarking on these harrowing journey in the mad rush hour traffic of Lagos has being taking care off. If all these worries and pains of the down and trodden has being met, then our generous Pastor should be giving the right and privilege to acquire another Gulf Stream for the Misses if she so desires after all she has her own demands from God. For our God is not a God of half measures he increases so the bible says in a 1000 folds, I must confess in my time I have heard some strange testimonies that defiles human comprehension. I will not pretend that I do not know the power of God. |
The problem in Nigeria is each Assembly do not know their roles. The House of Reps which is a representation of all peoples of Nigeria based on population is the most powerful and speaks for the generality of the population. The problem lies with the term upper / Lower Chambers. The Upper Chambers cannot reject bills passed in the lower House. It is just like Obama’s health reform bill; having passed through the lower House in a whisker cannot be rejected in its totality by the Senate. The Senate will look at the bill and add to or remove certain sections they are not happy with but to out-right reject the bill is a no-no. They the Senate don’t have the mandate to do so in practise, though in theory they can but in practise they will not, they broker any deadlock sitiuation between the House of Reps and the Presidency, the Senate is a representation of the federating units in an equal footing. For example in America a state like California has 53 members in the House of Reps but only have 5 senators, whilst a State like Maine has probably 3 House of Reps members and also have 5 senators. For Senators to start rejecting bills discriminatingly after such bills have passed through the House of Reps will mean the will of the general populace has being rejected by the perseverance of a few. In the Context of Yardua presenting his Budet 2010, he should present it to the people and by the people it will mean the House of Reps. The Senate should not even be in the picture on this at all. |
Also included on the committee are the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, governors of Delta, Kogi, Bauchi, Oyo, Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo states, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, Alhaji Isa Yuguda, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, Mr. Sullivan Chime, Chief Martins Elechi and Chief Ikedi Ohakim, respectively. How will it be possible for the EFCC to prosecute the 1st lady of Abia State when the attention of her husband will be required in neighbouring Anambra State for campaigning duties on behalf of Mr Soludo. I think the PDP has taking us for a fool, this is just blatant misguidance of the highest order. I weep for my nation, the only people anything is happening for are the Politicians and the friend’s and crony’s of Politicians any other and every other sector of the economy is on a standstill. |
Gossips are baseless and are often based on assumptions. Not facts. There are some facts that have being established, and that has actually move issues from the realm of gossip, illusion or fantasy to hard bone fact. 1. The institution concerned recognise that name, 2. The Institution knew he enrolled for the course, 3. The last but not the least, did he finish the course and obtain his certificate, this is where the Institution had to put a foot down on the people probing the validity of the Certificate. There is the data protection act in the UK, the consent of the person probed will be required before more information can be unravelled. |
Since you "know all",why not meet omisore for clarification instead of making noise over the internet, I will ignore your statement, for one I am not seeking elective office, secondly I did not tell anybody I have a Ph.d or is it Masters so why worry myself, I am not the one in a dilemma of producing a certificate the senator is, unfortunately Oyinbo no de take bribe, they will tell you as it is. The bloody Irony is the stupid man did not have to lie in the first place since he is already over qualified for the post. |
The issue of gossips is irrelevant and secondary, when a fact can be established, ask Mr Omisore to show us his certificate can any task be easier than that I guess not. ![]() |
To all of those who cant' read : I will re-state Me No questions whethers or not Omisore get a college degree; me questions the CREDIBILITY OF THE SAHARA REPORTERS. Sahara Reports might have started its operation in an incredulous way, but because the many scoops they have had in the past which later turned out to be true, their incredible stories have suddenly become credible story. They are the last voice of reason and an enviable source for the exposure of the endemic decadence Nigeria has become, just as Dele Momodu’s Ovation magazine is committed to the portrayal of the life styles and social gatherings of our ruling class, Sahara Reports has made its mark in the murky and dark act of fighting corruption, a monster that has reduced our nation to a nation of penury and abject poverty. Sahara Reports has become the avenue where and when 2 disgruntled thieves will readily spill the beans on each other meanwhile, and all the time restraining the magazine or the Reporters from unveiling their anonymous status. Like the saying goes, there is no smoke without fire, it will be stupid of any sensible person to ignore such allegations, when a prove is all that is needed to counter the claims. Sahara Reports should continue with the good works. |
If it can be established that Omisore has not got a Masters Degree by the Institution, then he should step down from running as a Senator. To be a Senator, having a Master’s degree is not a pre-requisite. If I am not mistaken a school cert degree is the minimum qualification required. So for the Senator to over-kill by overstating his qualification is an unnecessary intent at shoring up his already dented personality, a first or Bachelor’s degree will do fine and I hope he has that. |
Can you people for once stop this baseless, agenda less and pointless argument and reasonably readjust your sights on the on- goings around you for a second. Whilst you are all wallowing in your blind arguments about some drummed-up quotes and propagandist rhetoric’s of the 1960’s a lot of water has passed under the bridge. The Commonwealth of one the Igbo State at this moment is brazenly and without re-course being plundered with impunity. One of her first-lady is now in hiding after getting are greedy fingers stuck in the rut of corruption. It would gladden my hearts and the hearts of millions of Igbos who are disillusioned and hapless and out of desperation now erk a living by peddling in hard drugs and kidnapping as a new way of life. If only those with the wherewithal are prepared to re-focus their energies on what is happening today and not what has happened yesteryears life will be better in the East. The Igbo man today is more concerned on how he feeds his family now and not how his Grandfather fed his father. The region is in disarray, no meaningful development is taking place, it would appear the poster of this article has a strong penchant for digging historical artefacts, I personally think it is good, but a misplaced and an un-warranted priority, my take is, giving the probity skills of this gentleman, his ingenuity can be employed in, forensically examining and disserting the current political jobbers in the East to the benefit of all. Such skills if deployed with the same zeal and zest that this gentle-man has done in uncovering this old huge mine of past Biafran propagandist tools, will not only have brought down a few Governors in the east, it would have expose the irrelevance and unnecessary bureaucratic bottle-necks the houses of assemblies have become, their relevance in our polity today will have to be questioned and queried. The almost anarchy and deplorable state of Eastern Nigeria is not something any Nigerian will be proud of let alone any Igbo, the mere mention of any town in the east conjures an image of men who wants to grasp you for a few bucks. Why is this modern day fad ignored by the so called Biafran apologist and the intelligentsia, a trend that might consumed the whole East if care is not taking, one will think that this un-enviable way of making money will be at the behest of all right thinking Igbo man. Marriages and Weddings now have to be done in Lagos or Abuja or any other town, something that was unthinkable a few years ago. The old and elderly are at the mercy of these men of vile minds, who out of joblessness have resulted in an easier way to make money than toiling the ground, it might however be too late to do something now, for once one has tasted the sweetness, easiness and an obligatory payments called ransom any other form of making a living pales into insignificance. |
No - The beautiful ones are not yet born |
@ Bennyboy11 dont mind that chap, cheap patriotism amisdt endemic corruption. even a blindman knows that Nigeria is more corrupt, one should swallow ones pride and call a spade a spade. The day a minister resigns over $20,000.00 that day, we know we have arrived and vison 20-20 will not be an illusion but a reality. |
http://www.tribune.com.ng/30012009/images/feat1.jpg Mariam's probably last outing, in the background during the Yardua's Wedding. |
That's what they said about this Yaradua - first president with degree etc etc. Look today, the worst president in our history. None of these people have vision, they have cataracts. Sambo has put some nice drawings on paper but Nigeria needs more than that now. You can only work with what is at your disposal, Sambo is not all talk, I will suggest u have look at that link and u will see the caterpillars and bulldozers have already started grading the roads leading to the new Kaduna City. There is even another picture showing an almost completed dual carriage road in the City. You have to remember that this gentleman is working with a shoe- string budget unlike Fashola who has enough money coming in through his IGR scheme or Amechi’s oil derivatives. If he can do this bearing in mind Kaduna is not an oil producing state, one wonders what he will achieve at the helms of affair. Yardua would have being a good President but half the time he is in a comatose state due to the strong pain killers he takes to control his ailment. You will have to be a super-human to work under such condition. But having said he still managed to broker a peace initiative in the Niger delta, a feat an able and agile OBJ cannot achieve during his 8 years in office. He has proven yet again he is surely a Graduate President who looks at problems from a fundamental and critical point rather than from a brash and bravado angle, but nature will not let him physically be able to achieve his many other goals hence his intended stepping down |
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=765936 See Sambo's vision for Kaduna above - The New Kaduna City I will take Sambo over Jonathan anytime. He is a qualified acrhietect, he is one of the few Visonaries from the North, and he is as progressive as Fasholas and Rotimi Amechi, although Amechi is all mouth so far. |
Is there any legitimate reason why Goodluck is not the 1st choice to replace Yara dua? If Yar Adua steps down, Goodluck Jonathan should take over. If Goodluck is somehow incapable, the head of the Senate will take over. That is what the constituition says. How can a governor take over? He is not even part of the Federal Government. Some of you fellows don’t know what the term mandate means, the Yardua / Goodluck ticket ends at the end of the 1st 4 year term and If I am not mistaking that is the 31st of May 2011. The ticket between 2011 and 2015 is a new mandate, If for whatever reason Yardua decides to step down and not run for a second time, the PDP through its BOT may decides to present Sambo as their flag bearer come 2011 and Sambo on the other hand might re-present Goodluck to run with him on a joint ticket . A Political Party is a Gentleman’s club and they can decide to change long standing rules at a whim, whoever is not happy with such arrangement can jump ship and go to another party. If for any reason Goodluck declines Sambo’s offer then he Goodluck will have to contest a primaries against Sambo, and since the BOT has made up their mind on who they will support, suffice it to say that Goodluck will be running as a lame duck, It must be said however if Yardua were to die in office between now and May 31st 2011, Nothing can be done about that, Goodluck will assume the post of the Presidency as stipulated by the constitution in observance and adhering to the spirit of the current the mandate. In the event of the latter, that is Yardua dieing in office, Goodluck being an incumbent will be difficult to dislodge come 2011, he may well be opportuned to run a further 2 terms 2011 to 2015 and 2015 to 2019 that is of course if PDP were to win those elections. |

It will gladden my hearth if the Docs attending to Mariam Babangida are Diasporan, It will mean IBB will come face to face with the faceless and powerless Nigerians who he systematically drove out of the country whilst playing kalo-kalo with the Nigerian economy. The once powerless, hopeless and visionless Nigerian will now determine to some extent the faith of the high and mighty Mariam. The Docs every word and beckon will be held on to by the confused, hopeless, and atttentive IBB, it will be a reminscent of the early days as a conscript when IBB will stand to attention when a senior officers steps into the room. I will say how are the mighty fallen. |
The fact is Nigeria has no tourist, the only tourist they have are the diasporas, in many countries Tourism is the highest earners and contribute well over 75 % to their GDP's. Example South Africa and Egypt 2 of African's leading economy relie heavely on tourism. The contributions of our official tourist who happen to be diasporas must not be undermined or devalued rather it should be commendable. The 10 billion figure is 1/8th of all money sent to Naija. Most people still travel with their cash, why go through the official route and change your ££s for 251 at official rate when you can do it at the un-official rate at 275.00 that is a lot diffrence especially if are changing huge sums of money. I traveled to Nigeria for just one week for Gani's funeral in September 2009, and I had £500.00 for that week, not a penny of this amount came back with me to England. I beleive the number of diasporas that travel like this week in week out are innumerable. |
Nigeria has already being delivered from the ignominy of not qualifying for the world-cup , the first time the event will ever take place on African soil. I think our father who hathen Heaven has something up his sleeve for the nation on the economic front. We just need to be patient the right guys who will stir the country to utopia will emerge by his anointing. I say Amen !! to this prayer. |
Collateral Damage is part of war, war is not some gardening party. The beastiality of man is unleashed in such unfortunate circumstances, caution is throwing into the winds, this is a fact that is known and acknowledge all over the world. Even in the west Abu greb prison atrocities comes to mind. To now think of war in the African context, where the name Geneva convention might be assumed or mistaken for the name of your arch enemy anything goes. If un watched or un-reported a whole race or tribe can be wiped out in Africa. The Rwanda pogrom comes to mind, in the undebelly of this sadsitic and inhumane butchery of humans the atrocities and crimes commited defiles logic or comprehension. Even the perpetuators of this ugly melee when informed of the pogrom they have commited are in self denial they cannot beleive in their wides dreams that they were capable of unraveling such dastardly act on people. I see war in Africa as momentarily instance of madness, it will be foolhardy or stupid to revisit the sins commited by one party or the other in a sitituation of total anarchy or chaos to do such is to redefine madness. As Gowon said after the war there was no winner and no vanquish I think that is the most famous quote of the Biafra war. |
Nigerians are quick to compare themselves with other countries. We eat the proverbial cake and want to have it. There are 2 things in Ghana that come to mind They have a Political opposition with some element of IDEALOGY. The Ghanaians have a very little middle class, few people are Educated so you have the lower class people demanding for Accountability and they trust their political leadership The essence of post like this is for it to catch the eyes of those in power. If Turai Yaradua is truly an avid internet devourer as mentioned by close associates surely issues like the ones discuss here should be of grave consequenence and importance to her husband who has promise us things will be done via due process. It will gladden and warm the hearts of Nigerians if he can include zero tolerance on corruption as his 8 point agenda. If he goes down this part he will not only be a matyr who will be rewarded in the after-life by the mandatory 72 virgins promised all good muslims, he will also be remembered by generations of un-born Nigerians as the man who changed the course and built a rudder in the ship called Nigeria. Posterity will not forget him. He is a lucky man, one of the 13 men out of a population of 145 million people that will rule Nigeria every 100 years that is assuming each Preident last for a 2 term period. We dont need a revolution in Nigeria, what we need is for our leaders to realise that they belong to a priviledge and exclusive club of people who will lead a nation this calling will not be the calling of 99.999% of the citizens of the country . Our Leaders should realise the burden of that office must not be taking lightly but must revered. |
This Minister must go down. Nigeria should grab the bull by the horn and start slamming individuals involve in abject and callous fraud perpetuated by mindless and dumb Minister like this gentleman who thinks he is running his own home expenses. Can you imagine this Minister awarded a contract to a company with no address, How blatant and brainless are some crimes committed in Nigeria it makes one wonder whether we will ever get out of the quagmire we have found ourselves, N3.5 billion out of N5.2 billion has already being spent and nothing to show on the ground. The money was meant for a 7 secured city initiative whereby Police will be expected to respond to any distress call within 5 minutes of the call. Read extract below : THE House of Representatives, on Thursday, expressed great displeasure with the Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Lame, for allegedly misapplying a sum of N3.5 billion out of N5.2 billion appropriated by the National Assembly for the establishment of Strategic Crime Prevention projects in seven cities across the country. The concerned cities are Lagos, Kano, Maiduguri, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Ibadan, where the police force was to be made more proactive in combating crime. Committee on Police Affairs, headed by Honourable Abdul Ningi, expressed this concern at the interaction it had with the minister and his team with Deputy Speaker, Honourable Usman Bayero Nafada, in attendance. According to information, the money was approved for the police before Lame became minister, but members of the Police Affairs Committee were worried that he could spend the huge sum without recourse to the National Assembly. At the interaction, members expressed shock at the alleged discovery that most of the companies used by the minister for various projects had no fixed addresses, while the projects did not achieve 20 per cent of completion. Some members even walked out on the minister to express their anger with the way he was parrying questions from the Abdul Ningi-led committee. The minister had claimed that he spent the huge amount already accessed, after passing through due process, on capacity- building for the police, buying of specialised vehicles and modern communication gadgets based on expert advice. But deputy Speaker, Honourable Nafada and the committee chairman, Honourable Ningi, declared that the minister missed the point, saying the intention of the president had been misconstrued as well. According to the deputy Speaker, the intention of President Umaru Yar’Adua, as enunciated in his Seven- point Agenda, was to have some cities in the country, where security of life would be fully guaranteed and the police responding to distress calls within five minutes. He said such cities were found in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Western world, disclosing that the president had the intention of having one or two such cities in the country for a start. But the House, while passing the Budget 2009 into law, increased the number to seven. Committee boss, Ningi, said the idea of the House, as agreed to by the former minister of finance, was to report back to the committee once it was resolved at the executive level on what to spend the N3.5 billion to achieve Yar’Adua’s dream of seven security- tight cities. He said his committee came to the conclusion, because the N5.2 billion was appropriated as a matter of priority as one of the Seven-point Agenda of the president without seeing the details, as to what and what to be procured or what the project would look like. He, therefore, challenged the minister to produce a breakdown of the amounts spent on each of the seven cities, adding that “one of the concepts of this project was to make the police arrive a crime scene or respond to a distress call within five minutes. “What exactly have you done in trying to achieve this objective? How much have you released to each of the seven cities? We want specifics; let us know how much has been released.” Lame had claimed ignorance of the meeting, saying he was not informed on time. “I was not informed of this discussion. It was a purely procurement contract. But we wanted to build capacity, so I got experts to help me. If I knew I was coming to the House today, I would have prepared better.” He also stated that the former minister of finance did not bring it to his knowledge that he had to come before the House to show the project designs before getting approval. Meanwhile, Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Professor Promise Okpala, Director of Finance, Mr. Isaac Ishola and the Assistant Director/Secretary of Tenders Board/Head, Procurement, Mr. Adesina Adetona have been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) since last Monday over an alleged N2.4 billion scam. They were arrested in Minna, headquarters of the examinations body, and moved to Abuja. Commission’s spokesperson, Mr. Femi Babafemi, confirmed the arrest and detention, but declined comments on details. A commission source, however, revealed that the trio who had been on the radar of the commission for some time were eventually picked up after investigation into the allegations against them showed that they had a case to answer. Commission’s operatives had penultimate week arrested Isaac in Minna and taken him to Tundun Wada Police Station before he was taken to Alovera Hotel, believed to be owned by him, for a search. Adetona was also arrested and quizzed for several hours, while Okpala was alleged to be evading arrest. The entire alleged scam was said have involved about N5 billion. |
There is nothing wrong with Peckham, in fact one can refer to it as little Lagos like some places in New York are called little italy. It does not necessary mean that it is run down. I stand here to say there is no slum in London, anywhere that is inhabitable and completely run down are normally pulled down and new properties built on the same site. That happend in Hackney all the high rise council flats in dalston in the early 1990's have all being pulled down and nice lovely terraced houses with gardens built on the same site. |
I hope President Yardua has turned a new lease as per the conduct of all individuals in his administration, If he can only stick to what he is saying in this extract below then Nigeria will definately fulfill her potential greatness. Probity, Transparency, integrity and accountability must be zero tolerance. PRESIDENT Umaru Yar’Adua has assured that his administration will do all it takes to entrench probity, integrity, transparency and accountability in the conduct of government business. He added that the Federal Government would neither shield nor protect any public official who falls foul of the law or breaches the Code of Conduct for public officers. The president, who was represented on the occasion by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Minister, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero, gave this assurance while commissioning the Code of Conduct Tribunal headquarters/court complex in Jabi District, Abuja. His words: “I do reiterate before the entire nation, on this day, that my administration will neither shield nor protect any public official who falls foul of the law or breaches the code of Conduct for public officers.” According to him, “this guiding principle shall continue to be with sustained focus on the delivery of quality service to the people of this country who have graciously entrusted us with the mandate of transforming Nigeria into an economically strong, politically stable and prosperous nation.” President Yar’Adua expressed his unyielding commitment to zero tolerance for corruption as a cardinal principle of governance, which was predicated on an abiding belief that sustained growth, socio-economic development and effective national regeneration that cannot be attained with corrupted and contaminated governance and political process. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
On a more serious note - I wish to commend Ghana on this great level of accountability Accountability will never happen in Naija - Not when you have - Jokers In Power - JIP Nigerian Leaders should be ashamed of themselves can you Imagine OBJ telling a UN reps that if they are short of cash that the man standing next to him who happens to be Peter Odili was a Governor of the oil rich state of Rivers state as if the money accrued to Rivers State was Odili’s personal money. I think in Nigeria there is no difference between what the Governor owns and spends and what belongs to the state. A friend of mine also told me of a story that happened in Delta State during Ibori’s tenure he said they travelled to one remote part of the state for some commissioning, when they got there, the Governor could not alight from his Car as there was a big pool of water, so he the Governor eventually braced up to the situation and took the plunge, stepping on stones laid out on the ground to enable him walk through. My friend said as Ibori was side stepping these stones he made a comment to a collegue, “ Governor dey this state so “ meanwhile he was the Governor of the state, our leaders are jokers - Jokers In Power JIP. |
why the comparison, you are planting a seed of hatred I am not planting any seed of discontent or hatred if Nigerian entrepreneurs, Banks, and politicians in their droves deem it fit, reasonable and wise to abandon a country of145 million people to invest in a country of 18 million don’t u think there is something wrong there. What it simply means is that the Ghanaians have created an enabling environment in which foreigners like Nigerians are confident of their investment for them to invest in that country. Why can’t we do the same in our own country? We should swallow our pride, and stop playing big brother, big brother that does not have a clue what governance and accountability is all about, we should copy policies that are working in neighbouring African countries, the European nations in the 19th century had a healthy rivalry amongst each other which eventually led to the industrialisation and development of all. A zero tolerance policy on fraud will be a good starting point; such policies should be enshrined in the mind set of our leaders and EFCC. |
http://ghanabusinessnews.com/2009/06/26/ghana-sports-minister-resigns/ Ghanaian minister for sports resigns over $20, 000.00 misappropriations. Can such a thing happen in Nigeria, clearly Ghana has move one more level over her big brother, Nigeria in the transparency stake. $20,000.00 is a chicken change that is what our ministers give their girl-friends for lunch yet no alarm bells rings or eyes are bat anywhere in the corridors of power be it at Aso Rock or the National Assembly. If one where to consider the overwhelming amount embezzled at the Nigerian Ports Authorities by Bode George and his cohorts a staggering $500 million dollars and he is not even a Minister, it makes the amount allegedly misappropriated by the Ghanaian Minister’s pales into insignificance, an amount if he where a Nigerian will not even enter the corruption radii. In fact if such amount where ever put into the Nigerian corruption radii system, that machine will just pack up. It has to be noted that the said Minister has not being fully investigated but the fact that the minister’s name was mentioned in an ugly imbroglio involving a young lady travelling with the Minister as part of an official entourage of the Ministry on state expense to Germany made the Minister to resign. Obviously it later came too light that this lady was a private individual. The Minister offered to pay the lady’s expenses back to the treasury but still had to resign pending investigation into the whole ordeal. The Minister knew he had compromise his position as a minister and brought the Presidency of Attah Mills into disrepute and did the wise and appropriate thing by taken the bitter pill and resign. The Presidency on the other hand rather than supporting or shielding the Minister accepted the Ministers resignation without much ado. I was intrigued when I read this story online about what happened and I wondered whether such actions can be taken in my beloved Nigeria. This political drama in Ghana and the outcome makes our style of Government and our current leadership look like immature Kindergartens in power ( KIP ) ( worse than Vagabonds In Power VIP ) who are shameless, unperturbed, or care what the consequence of their actions are. I think the confidence the Nigerian government has stems from the fact that Yaradua was rigged into power, so they do not really give a damn what the Nigerian people think of them in power as elections in Nigeria is like a relay race, you just pass the baton to the next guy in your party with the utmost disregard to the Nigerian populace or electorate. In fact, in Nigeria elections is an un-necessary distraction and formalities, a stop-gap in the conveyer belt of looting and plundering, a sad time to our disgruntled and greedy politicians a period they will rather do without. I sincerely hope we can learn from the Ghanaians what true governance and accountability is all about. ![]() |
The Unspoken truth about deregulation is that the Naira will be devalued and it will be exchanging between 35% to 45% less its current value to the dollar. So in the New Year 2010 we should be looking at exchange rate between N202 to N217 to the dollar. Surely there must be a net effect after all that quantitative easing and then top it up de-regulation. |
@Tudor & Amaka I agree with u guys, the earlier they are murdered the better for society. |
Banning Bikes in Calabar is a positive change. Atleast the casualty sections of the hospitals will rest a bit. Those bikes have killed people, disfigured people and their fares are not any cheaper than the taxis. The government has to do better than providing 250 taxi. We need more. Any okada man that is smart will get involved with the new innovation because the taxis has to be driven by someone. The fact still remains that a penniless man can hop on a bike and 5 hours later he is not only N1,000 or even N2,000.00 richer, his immediate worries of providing the mandatory meal for the family will easily be met, so will also be his other indulgence such as having a bit of liquor and pepper soup, enjoying the company of women of easy virtue and saving some of the excesses for a raining day. The net effects of this income are the plethora of businesses that hinges their own survival on the presence of these macaber men on bikes. To under-value or discount their contribution to society is to be in denial of an obvious fact. To think that all these activities are without any recourse to public expense or funds is to deny human beings their basic right to fend for themselves a right enthrenched and enshrined in our contitution. |
