1. The only pitfall with Chinese loans is when you’re unable to pay back they takeover the project as their own(has happened in some other African countries) however, the infrastructure has been put in place and they won’t remove it.

2. The West don’t care if you use the loan for the purpose it is meant for. They don’t care if the money is embezzled or not. That is why they keep giving loans to corrupt regime of GEJ because they more you embezzle the more you’re unable to pay and the more enslaved you become.

3. The Chinese don’t deal with thieves, they put their money where their mouth is and make sure the loans are used for the purpose they’re meant for.

4. This is the most dangerous part of the western loan. The Chinese don’t require the government to retrench its civil Servants when they default or are unable to pay up. The West on the other hand as part of its loan conditions will require the government to retrench Ita civil servants.

The bottom line is that, everyone recognize that China is not Santa Claus but their intention is far more genuine and open than the west’s. Even the west recognize this and they fear China taking over but with lesser or no intention to enslave that is why they’ve being in a panick mode since the China-Africa summit.

They know their milking cows are about to be set free. If not when was the last time a British PM or a German chancellor or French President visited Africa let alone in the same year.

FX inflows into Nigeria economy reached to 35 billion dollars anually in I believe 2015, and Igbos represent quite a significant % of that. UN studies broke down the various sectors of the economy where these inflows go. Education comes first followed by real estate.

For the avoidance of doubt, re-structuring is not about the re-drawing of state or regional boundaries. The restructured Nigeria that a large number of Nigerians talk about, is a Nigeria that not only provides opportunities for everyone to work but even more specifically challenges every layer of governance to demonstrate capacity to create wealth and jobs for the citizens.

Restructuring is not just about the devolution of powers to the states, it is about transforming the respective roles of the federal, state and local governments to perform more efficiently in matters of territorial as well as economic governance.

Above all, when we talk about restructuring, we are not talking about just constitutional tweaks, we are talking about a cultural revolution. It is not about re-shuffling a few responsibilities or resources, but about disrupting the authoritarian politics our democracy has inherited from its military and colonial rulers of past.

Viewed this way, Nigeria needs to be restructured. Nigeria has operated a faulty system of federalism especially under military governments. Both economic and political structures are defective, resulting in weak economic management systems which, in turn, prevent all levels of the Nigerian government — federal, states and local governments, from operating at optimal levels.

Faced with the reality of non-performance, Nigerians have clamoured for the restructuring of the economy towards a more diversified structure. To make this happen would require that we establish and sustain a model of governance which would nurture a spirit of participation and consensus on key national issues and accommodate all the diverse segments of the society. In other words, if we accept the wisdom behind calls for a restructuring of the economy, we must be ready to build a foundation for its success: we must, in other words re-structure the polity.

The federal structure is so complex with a very strong centre that it has succeeded in accumulating many responsibilities, and along with these, huge resources, which belong to the other levels of government.

It is all too obvious that the current arrangement does not respond to the needs of the people at the local level. We have all too often lied to ourselves that the politicians sitting in Abuja can effectively respond to the needs of a population in far remote locations as Kaura Namoda, Iseyin, Arochukwu or Bama. Only the autonomy of the local governments and the states both of which are closer to their people than the Central Government in Abuja can guarantee this and result in more effective decisions. Only when local administrations are on the saddle, will there be greater accountability for decision making as well as improved flexibility, adaptability and ability to change as a result of a reduction in bureaucracy.

I strongly believe that the restructuring of Nigeria will foster the spirit of co-operation and consensus in a nation of diverse ethnic groups, cultures and religions. It is desirable, in fact you may even say it is required to establish, nurture and sustain a strong and effective democratic government.

In this continuous dialogue, we should remind ourselves that restructuring is not a new or strange phenomenon. A number of developing economies have had cause to restructure their economies, for greater efficiency or to correct imbalances or to reorient them towards, for example, more open and market-oriented systems with greater reliance on the private sector as engine of growth. Even the United Kingdom is restructuring its political and economic systems to enable a better union among its component parts. Businesses restructure for better performance. Even families do!

Working with the National Assembly and all other stakeholders, we will lead the process of genuine and transparent constitutional amendments, in order to provide the necessary stimulus and focus on how to restructure Nigeria that would work for all.

In contrast to simple geographical restructuring of the country, prudent management of national resources and providing for the people properly, are better ideas for Nigeria’s development challenges, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Prof. Osinbajo who stated this while fielding questions from a cross-section of Nigerians at a town hall meeting in Minnesota, the United States of America on Sunday, spoke on a wide range of issues covering the economy, anti-corruption, health, agriculture among others.

According to the Vice President, “the problem with our country is not a matter of restructuring and we must not allow ourselves to be drawn into the argument that our problems stem from some geographical restructuring. It is about managing resources properly and providing for the people properly, that is what it is all about.”

“I served for eight years as Attorney General in Lagos State and one of the chief issues that we fought for in Lagos state was what you call fiscal federalism. We felt that there was a need for the states to be stronger, for states to more or less determine their fortunes.

“So, for example, we went to court to contest the idea that every state should control, to a certain extent, its own resources (the so-called resource control debate). We were in court at that time up to the Supreme Court and the court ruled that oil-producing states should continue to get 13% derivation.

“While we were at the Supreme Court only the oil-producing states and Lagos were interested in resource control, everybody else was not interested in resource control for obvious reasons. Now, that is the way the argument has always gone, those who have the resources want to take all of it, while those who do not have want to share from others.”

Continuing, Prof. Osinbajo said, “My view is that we must create the environment that allows for people to realise themselves economically because that truly is what the challenge is with our country.”

The Vice President added that Buhari-led Federal Government has put in place an economic structure that is able to function properly despite previous challenges, particularly corruption that led to a slowdown in the economy.

On the impact of corruption on the economy and the solution adopted by the Buhari administration, Prof. Osinbajo noted that “Unless we are able to deal with the fundamental questions especially around corruption, our economic circumstance will keep going one step forward, two steps backwards”.

According to him, “When you talk about corruption in Nigeria, the truth is stranger than fiction. It is the kind of thing that would cripple an economy anywhere because you simply don’t have the resources for the graft and the greed of the numbers of people who want to steal the resources.

“All that we have been able to deal with is grand corruption. When we started the TSA, the whole point was to aggregate all of the funds of government that were in private banks. So we put all of the money in the central bank so that we could at least see the movement of money and by doing so, we were able to save 50% of the corruption that was going on then.”

He assured Nigerians in the US that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari could be trusted, noting that “we can say for sure that the President is not going to sign off money and just bring it out to share.”

Relying on OPEC statistics on oil revenues accruable to Nigeria under successive administrations between 1990 and 2014, the Vice President said not much had been done in terms of infrastructure development despite the huge oil revenues realized by the country.

According to him, “Under the IBB / Abacha administrations (1990 – 1998) Nigeria realized$199.8 billion; under the Obasanjo / Yar’Adua governments (1999 – 2009), the country got $401.1 billion; and during the Jonathan administration (2010 – 2014), Nigeria got $381.9 billion from oil revenues.”

“The question that we must all ask is that what exactly happened to resources? The question that I asked is that where is the infrastructure.

“One of the critical things that we must bear in mind and see is that this government despite earning $94 billion, up until 2017, we are spending more on infrastructure and capital than any previous government, so we are spending N1.5 trillion on capital, that is the highest we have spent since 1990,” he added.

Responding to concerns on how government is utilizing recovered funds, the Vice President disclosed that the Buhari administration is committed to a transparent use of the funds in providing infrastructure.

He said: “What we are doing with the proceeds of corruption is by making it a line in the budget so that it can be accounted for properly; it is not a special fund somewhere that is just being used in any way, but as a single line in the budget for infrastructure which is our major spend.”

In the area of agriculture, Prof. Osinbajo said, the target was to attain self-sufficiency in the production of rice, tomato etc.

According to him, “We are doing a lot of work in agriculture. Take rice, for instance, we are doing a lot in rice production and we have increased local production such that we are no longer spending $5 million daily on rice import.

“Today, we are doing 11 million metric tons of paddy rice and are now importing only 2 per cent of what we used to import.”

On Nigeria’s rise on the World Bank’s ease of doing business index, Prof. Osinbajo said though the challenges are daunting, the government was committed to going beyond the 24 places it moved up to in the last rankings.

The Vice President added that reforming Nigeria’s port system was top on the agenda of government as
efforts were underway to improve the turnaround time for cargo clearance at the ports.

According to him, “If you look at the port issue, for example, we must be able to clear our port system; people must be able to import and export their goods in hours not weeks and months.

“So, we have to work our port system and one of the things we have been able to do is what we call the National Trading Platform or the single window. We are getting to the point where we are going to launch the national trading platform where the whole port system is integrated into one.”

On improving the health budget at both the state and federal levels, the Vice President said the focus is on trying to do National Health Insurance because funding health care through budgeting has proved to be practically impossible.

According to him, “We simply do not have the resources, the states and Federal Government cannot do enough. So, the National Health Insurance is a very basic part of it and we are currently working now with the World Bank and with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to establish a proper National Health Insurance Scheme.”

Nigeria’s Ambassador to the U.S., Mr Sylvanus Adiewere Nsofor led other Nigerians within and outside the state of Minnesota to the meeting held in Minneapolis.

Only fools do the same thing over and over again in other to expect a different result. Restructuring, adaptation & changes are all part of human evolution. The current 36 states of the federation were restructured from 12 states they used to be to their current status. Although we restructured from those 12 states into 36 states of big government spending & poverty entrapment and is going to take restructuring to get the country out of poverty entrapment into the 21th century of progress and transformation. Those opposing restructured Nigeria are the ones benefiting from her wows. Osibanjo understands better but he is only towing the path of his boss.

In as much as I want a paradigm shift in leadership in Nigeria, it won’t happen in next year election, based on how we are presently constituted.

How many supporters do these aspirants have all over the country to give the incumbent a run for his money?

Still talking about money, do they have the deep pocket to match the big parties naira for naira when the real campaign starts?

To stand any real chance in a presidential election, they should start contesting for some lower offices and build their pedigree and reputation over time.

Then they can be seen as real contending force to be reckoned with.

Listen, there have being major upsets in history like in Malaysia, Singapore etc. Nigeria is now the extreme poverty capital of the world overtaking India with 7× our population. Buhari's policies in his second term assuredly can only divide the country further & further, deeping poverty even further, escalate herdsmen killings and impunity. All these will be happening in a world of trade wars, negative global economic growth in an environment where Nigerian debt profile have exceed 20% GDP........we are in trouble deep.

There are many reasons why Nigeria should stand firmly behind the patriotic president, i believed that a government that brought the true definition of democracy to this country and perfected the true principle of checks and balance deserved to be supported to finish his good work. i believed that if this administration can achieve so much in less than four years, i think they still have a lot to offer.

All these it may seems to be just statistics, but actually human lives...fresh & blood. Just play with some numbers a little bit, and you quickly realised, you are in an environment not like any other on this planet. The only saving grace is our population growth rate of 3% which is among the highest in the world, but this is nature/families responding to replenish the numbers being wasted...hence 65% of Nigerian population are under the age of 30 yrs. Walk back 35yrs with these stats( useing moving/weighted averages), using say a base population of 100million 35yrs ago, finding the numbers that have died on short life span, diseases, wars, religious conflicts, backwardness, high infant mortality rate, road accidents etc, you're looking at close to over 40 million wasted potentials, and more if the same dysfunctional structure persists in the next 35yrs. This explains while we are un a suspended potential to be great but can never get there.

Nigerians as a matter of urgency should engage ourselves in aggressive/intrusive critical reasoning and analysis on critical issues confronting this country or we will be swallowed up by dangerous rapidly changing global dynamics. We are entrapped permanently due to our past, up to the present culture of Nigerian leaders in relations to the masses they lead.

The President said opposition and their supporters will not distract him from the goodwork his administration is doing with respect to the development of the Country. Lets look at some of those distractions or should I say reactions. Obviously, inter party politics can be distractions/reactions, but with respect to the masses it is reactions.

1). Is it distractions or reactions when fulani herdsmen engage in genocide end taking over of lands which are never return to the rightful owners, and Nigerians reacted through the social media, with the President feeling indifferent about it??..

2). Is it distractions or reactions when the President says he is fighting corruption, and the masses reacted through social media....asking the President to catch the big fishes in corruption swimming all around him??..

3). Is it distractions or reactions when some Nigerians reacted on the nepotism of appointments of service chiefs from one region??..

Nigeria case as it stands now, is in the hands of GOD.

Igbos are gradually becoming highly influential in many states across Nigeria. From Lagos to Rivers, Abuja to Cross River, Plateau to Benue etc. A time will come when we will be a force to reckon with just like it was in the first republic before the civil war. We can't be contributing significantly to the local economy of all these states without having a say. However, we should bring most of our investment home to the East.

Don't forget the Igbos in diaspora...come to Atlanta, Houston, Newyork, South Africa, Malaysia etc, our root in these places have gotten stronger and inter-genarational(from generation to generation). Our children in those places have started doing good and haven't abandoned their parents as was feared. FX inflows into Nigeria by Nigerians in diaspora are among the highest in the world. With African economic integration/free movements of people to people, Africa and the world are now playgrounds for the Igbos.(don't forget China).
