Closing the open gutters in Anambra will cost so much money and there are many more projects that are more important than closing up gutters like paving all the roads in the state, adequate and efficient supply of potable water, connecting the rural communities to the power grid etc. We even need to start tree planting before we commence the covering of the gutters.

Juliusmalema: SENATOR Ahmed Makarfi, presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday said he had a horrible experience plying the roads in the South-East region.
Makarfi spoke in Owerri, during his visit at the Imo State PDP secretariat. While narrating his experience, he said travelling to Owerri by road had justified his decision that 90 percent of his campaign would be on road projects.
Makarfi said: “As I was coming from Enugu to Owerri, the roads are bad. It is shocking. That is why I said 90 per cent of my campaign will be on road projects. “Some people asked me to come by air and I said no, why should I do that ? I want to feel the experience of our people and know their pains in view of solving them.”
According to Makarfi, “We must know what the electorate want. PDP is very democratic and it is a party that believes in dialogue. We could not have succeeded in the PDP national convention if many of you did not subscribe to dialogue.
“In 2007, I could have become the president if not for what happened. Then, I did not run away; I contributed my quota. As PDP members, we must believe in the party even when we lose. We must believe that God gives power. If you see me leaving PDP, then I am leaving politics.
“The policy of PDP is restructuring of Nigeria. PDP will bring Nigeria together on how to restructure Nigeria fairly. If you are a member of PDP and you don’t believe in restructuring, you should leave the party.” While on restructuring, he said: “We should also look at institutional restructuring. If we have institutional restructuring, what happened in the National Assembly wouldn’t have happened. I support state police but we must do it in such a way that it does not serve only political leaders.”
Speaking also, a former governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa, said: “I don’t know if anybody knows Makarfi more than me because we were colleagues as governors for 8 years. “During his time as governor of Kadunna state, there was nothing like Christians and Muslims. Racoon: Embattled sacked Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mallam Lawal Musa Daura, is said to have allegedly stashed a whopping sum of N21 billion in his Abuja home.
A source privy to the matter alleged that no fewer than 400 assault rifles, including other small arms weapons and thousands of PVCs belonging to Niger Republic immigrants, were also found in the house. The Sacked DSS DG is alleged to be engaged in dealings involving $21 million handed over to him by his predecessor, Mr. Ita Ekpenyong.
“Daura is also facing interrogation over alleged withdrawal of N12.9 billion from Pension Account of the DSS. He was further alleged to have withdrawn the sum of N1.6 billion from the N2.4 billion account belonging to the DSS Staff Insurance account by a relation of Daura,” the source noted.
All efforts to confirm the story from top sources proved abortive, as no one was willing to volunteer information on the startling discovery at the home of the former DSS boss.
Ekpenyong was interrogated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters on Thursday in Abuja over how he managed funds approved by former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki ahead of the 2015 polls.

agwom: The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has cautioned Nigerians, especially the media against the spread of fake news, saying this could led to civil war.
He spoke on Tuesday in Abuja at a two-day international conference themed “Democracy and Disinformation: How Fake News Threatens our Freedom and Democracy in Nigeria: organised by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) and MacArthur Foundation.
According to him, fake news is the greatest threat to democracy and security in Nigeria as it played a role in the civil war in the country and that Nigeria could not afford to fall victim to the same circumstances that led to the war.
“The government has been doing its best in educating the public on the dangers of fake news through various avenues. The ongoing infrastructure projects across the country like the agriculture empowerment programs are part of government deliberate effort to stimulate economic growth and create job opportunities. Every one of us must verify information sent to them for authenticity before circulation,” Mohammed said.
Also, the Director-General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mallam Ishaq Modibbo Kawu, said that the regulation of media stations by the commission was to protect lives and property.
Kawu, who was represented by the Director of Policy and Research in the commission, Mr Mujtaba Sada, said that the regulation was necessary in order to protect citizens from the menace of fake news circulation.
On his part, a Senior Fellow at CDD, Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim, said the conference was meant to strategize on how to protect the future of Nigeria.
He said the conference was also to protect the nation’s democracy against the threat of fake news, as fake news was like a machinery aimed at distorting Nigeria’s election management and the electoral integrity.
He cited many examples of fake news from the social media including the monkey pox scare in 2017, when the army was alleged to be injecting school children with the deadly disease in the South-eastern part of the country.
On her part, the Director of the CDD, Idayat Hassan, said the conference was the culmination of months of research, planning and the realisation that with the upcoming elections, Nigerians must come together, at all levels to deal with the menace of fake news, misinformation and disinformation.
“The experience in the country in the last few weeks is noteworthy. Following the killings of innocent Nigerians in several communities in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State in June this year, the media went agog quoting Mr Danladi Ciroma, a leader of Miyetti Allah in the North-Central, as saying the killings were a retaliation of previous acts of deadly aggression against Fulani residents and pastoralists in the state.
“It was later revealed that the statement credited to him was untrue as there was no evidence to back up the claim. Had Mr Ciroma not cleared the air on this matter promptly, we may not have imagined how it will further damage already battered relationships,” Hassan said.

This is why it has become essential that we all do a lot of ground clearing to pave the way for a new generation of rulers in this nation. “To make sure that in the process we don’t go back to what we are getting ourselves out of: one of the most unconscionable act we can be held guilty by coming generation. Between now and 2019, an opportunity still exists that can be reformed; there can be total overturn, whatever it takes to secure the nation and give us a new sense of dignity.” Asked whether Obasanjo has not done any good thing whatsoever, Soyinka said “First of all, there is no question whatsoever; I do not know any human being who has not done some good at one point or the other. It is very difficult to find one. It is just that I can’t remember one which Obasanjo has done. But we know it is there, it has got to be there. “Some people have been going to see Obasanjo and when they leave they come to see me in Abeokuta and we discuss. And that is why I am incensed that any attempt to hijack possible movement; and I have seen that attempted hijack take place. Second, they claim they are Igbos but forgot that in Igboland, it is a cardinal principle and custom that you must respect someone’s personal opinion and must not curse the person, if what the person simply did was to express his opinion and nothing more, “uche onye adighi ya njo”. Even if a person says anything you don’t like, provided he did not curse you, you are permitted to throw away his words but restrained by custom and tradition not to do anything to him. Third, the Nigerian constitution said in section 39 that “every person shall be entitled to freedom of expression, including freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart ideas and information without interference”. Also in section 38, the constitution states “every person shall be entitled to freedom of thought, conscience… including freedom to change his … belief, and freedom (either alone or in community with others, and in public or in private) to manifest and propagate his belief in teaching, practice and observance”. God himself created man a free moral agent to hold his thoughts and express his opinions as he wishes. He did not even compel man to worship Him. So these army of ignorant and wicked men are simply trying to rudely and crudely interfere with my traditional, constitutional and religious rights to freely express myself and hold an opinion, belief and thought as I so wish.
Let me reiterate that I am a follower of President Buhari and believe in his integrity and good intentions to better the lots of Nigerians and that of Ndigbo and I have no apologies for this. Whoever disagrees with me should produce his own strong reasons and better alternatives.
Since these men did not do this, but resorted to curses and vituperations, they have violated the law of nature, man and God. Here is the verdict of God on them according to Psalm 109 and particularly verses 1-3, 6, 17-21, 25-30.

(26) Help me, O Lord my God: O save me according to thy mercy: (27) That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, Lord, hast done it. (28) Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice. (29) Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle. (30) I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.”
