Lagos, the centre of excellence is playing host to President Muhammadu Buhari and as expected there is a lot of chatter about this visit.

having taken time to closely follow this historic visit, these are my top 10 takeaways from the visit:

1. President Buhari is Likely to be Reelected for a 2nd Term

Regardless of your political inclination you should learn to read strategic political moves and if you understand how the president got elected in 2015 you will appreciate that he managed to galvanize majority of the power brokers that got him elected yesterday at the 10t h Bola Tinubu Colloquium. They are now firmly behind him and he looks unstoppable for 2019 barring any miracle of humungous proportions.

2. Bola Tinubu is the Most Influential Politician in Nigeria
It is almost useless to try to list who was present yesterday at the colloquium because anybody who is anybody was there bar a very small handful of people mainly former Heads of State and Presidents, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, APC Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun who seems to be losing out in the All Progressives Congress (APC) internal power struggle. Outside of these major players, practically everybody else who matters was there from traditional leaders to governors to the captains of Industry. They were all there to celebrate the man that President Buhari described as a ‘strategist’. No doubt, he is the leading political strategist of our time in Nigeria.

3. President Yemi Osinbajo is intent on Prosecuting Former President Goodluck Jonathan

Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo seems intent on exposing the alleged corruption of the former President, Goodluck Jonathan and some of his cronies. He again attacked the former president for looting the treasury.

“And when we say that this same government that spent N139 Billion only on all of Agric, Power, Works and Housing, Transport, etc; spent between January 2015 and the elections, the sum of a N100 Billion in cash and 289 million dollars, altogether about a 100 Billion in cash, was released and spent, shared.

“This sum of money was in excess of the amount of money that was spent on Power, Works and Housing. And this is the point we are making, that there is no country in the world, and we must know this; there is no country in the world that would allow its resources to be plundered in the way our own resources were plundered and expect to be economically viable; it is not possible.

“Nigeria is unlike any other country because of the level of corruption that was perpetrated. We must stop that corruption and that is why we are so committed.

“When you fight corruption the way we are fighting it, corruption is going to fight back. The system would fight back. You will find that the fight-back is taking place everywhere, it is taking place on social media, it is taking place everywhere. But we are determined.”

How far he and the administration are determined to go, we shall see in the future.

4. Governor Ambode will stop at Nothing to Please his Political Benefactor

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is a direct product of the Tinubu brand of politics and it is obvious to see that he is taking every measure to honour the President who is obviously a key ally of his political benefactor; from declaring a work-free day for civil servants, to closing major roads to the extent that the president felt compelled to overrule some of the restrictions. The Ikeja computer village at was shut and the Ikeja branch of the Nigerian Bar Association felt the full weight of the government’s instruments of coercion over its planned protest over the new Land Use Charge rates which have become a source of conflict in Lagos. Security agents were deployed to the branch’s office and its chairman, Adeshina Ogunlana, confirmed the development to press stating:

“The police have invaded my secretariat, there are about 50 of them who are armed, and they are saying that they don’t want the protest tomorrow (Thursday, 29th March, 2018).

5. Tinubu Does Not Appreciate Obasanjo’s Letter Writing

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu took a dig at former President Obasanjo over his letter-writing, tagging his letter ‘bad-belle’ writer wondering if the latter “had not been there before”. The former president has in recent months tried to position himself as the de facto leader of the opposition to President Buhari. Tinubu is definitely not impressed.

Read what he said: “I remember my grandmother used to send me to a letter writer in the post office of those days and near the magistrate court. So somebody is writing letters these days, a letter of politics, as if they’ve never been there before. Bad belle letters.”

6. Saraki and Dogara are in the Political Wilderness

Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara have not managed to get themselves back into the mainstream of the APC after they partnered with opposition PDP lawmakers to get elected as the presiding officers of the 2 chambers of the National Assembly. Their absence at the Bola Tinubu Colloquium shows that they feel ostracized enough from the Buhari-Tinubu axis of power within the party to stay away altogether. It will be interesting to see what moves they will make as 2019 approaches.

7. Chief John Odigie-Oyegun’s Days as APC Chairman Look to be Ending Soon
Certain events are indicative of the state of political relationships and who is actually in power and those out of it. If Chief Oyegun could not find his way to the Colloquium of his party’s strongman, which event will he now attend? Deciding to miss the event was a big political blunder on the APC Chairman’s part. He should have learnt from Tinubu who continued to work with President Buhari even when they seemed to have diverged politically when the latter got sworn-in as president and started pandering to other interests.

8. Lagos, Sorry, Bourdillon is now the Political ‘Capital’ of Nigeria
Now that President Buhari has shown that he is firmly in Tinubu’s camp, practically every other politician who wants to achieve their political dreams through the APC will try at the very least to be in the good books of the ‘Lion of Bourdillon’ who has definitely found his roar back. You can be sure that many politicians who had been developing anti-Tinubu tendencies in the last 3 years will be finding ways to retrace their steps. Tinubu is a believer in ‘the more, the merrier’. He is likely to accept them.

9. The Opposition will have a tough Time Regaining Power in 2019

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu himself has said it: “that party (PDP), should forget it, they are not coming back”. A large part of the opposition’s calculations thus far had been premised on the perceived rift between President Buhari and Tinubu. Now that we all know the rift is gone, what is the opposition left with? Not much, except by some miraculous means they manage to wrest power from the APC in 2019.

10.Shutting Down Eko Hotel is Becoming Stale

It was Olamide the Nigerian rap champion of the moment who bragged about “shutting down Eko Hotel” (the convention centre). However, the place was packed to the rafters yesterday to the point of overflowing which points to the fact that, Lagos needs a bigger indoor events centre that is not owned by a religious organization. The Buhari-Tinubu shutdown of Lagos points to this and many in Nigeria and beyond would have taken note.

JONATHAN TO OSINBAJO: You’ve surrendered your lips to Satan
Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday said that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has “surrendered his lips to Satan” and now uses it to “spread slander and lies.”

He said this in response to Osinbajo’s claim on Monday that N100 billion and a separate $289 million were embezzled by officials of the Goodluck Jonathan administration, a few weeks to the 2015 elections.

Osinbajo, who made the allegation when he spoke at the 7th Quarterly Business Forum (QBF) held at the State House, Abuja, added that the economic woes being faced by Nigerians today were caused by the corruption of the former administration.

But in his response on Tuesday through his former spokesperson, Reno Omokri, Jonathan denied the vice president’s allegation and challenged Osinbajo to publish evidence that the former president shared the alleged amount before the election.

“Vice-president has again surrendered his lips to Satan to be used to spread slander and lies. Nigerians may recall that lying is the most consistent achievement of Professor Osinbajo’s almost three years as vice-president,” he said.

Speaking on the allegation he said, “On this most recent allegation by vice-president Osinbajo, let me state categorically that former President Jonathan did not share N150 billion two weeks to the 2015 election.

“If Professor Osinbajo has proof that former President Jonathan did so, then we challenge him to publish his proof. He is a professor of law and ought to know that he who alleges must prove.

“Again, it is a lie from the pit of hell that the Jonathan administration spent only N14 billion on agriculture and N153 billion on infrastructure in three years as alleged by the fallacious Osinbajo.”

The statement further said that the Jonathan administration performed far better than the way it is assessed by the present administration, saying that in less than three years, the Muhammadu Buhari led government has borrowed more than PDP borrowed in 16 years.

“The Jonathan administration budgeted and spent over $10 billion on infrastructure in the five years between May 6, 2010 and May 29, 2015.

“The Buhari administration, which in less than three years has borrowed more money than the PDP borrowed in 16 years cannot point to even one major project they have started and completed.

According to the statement, Osinbajo should try and desist from his alleged habit of peddling lies against the former president and his administration.

1). Did the Yorubas put a gun to the head of your people, and force them to come to Lagos?

As regards the abandoned properties, my grandfather who was a neighbour/to an Igbo landlord at Ebute-metta Lagos, collected rents from his tenants without the Igbo landlords knowledge. The tenants kept fighting my grandfather that what was his business with the house sebi the Igbo man has left for Biafra and they now own the house and would not pay rent. The Igbo man came back to Lagos after the war and thanked my grandfather that he thought he had lost the house and that he only came to check around. My grandfather handed over the 3 years rent money that he used to start over his life and also the key to the house.

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has described the killing of innocent Nigerians by suspected Fulani herdsmen as senseless.

The former president expressed sadness over the gruesome murder of Benue people in their homes by the herdsmen, saying it was shocking.

He was received at the Makurdi Airport by Governor Samuel Ortom and members of his cabinet on Saturday morning.

The Governor led him straight to the graveside of the Benue 73 who were massacred by herdsmen on New Year Day in Logo and Guma local government areas of the state located at Genabe village.

The former President said he was in the state to pay a condolence visit and to express his sorrow over the killings.

Obasanjo said, “It is sad beyond description and that is why I have taken it upon myself, having been to Maiduguri where we had a meeting of Zero Hunger Forum. If circumstances were normal, the Benue governor would have been with us.

“So, I am here to pay a condolence visit and share the sadness of Benue people with them.

“I felt coming to the graveside and laying a wreath will express my sorrow and my sympathy and empathy with the family, the Governor, all the people of the state and indeed, all Nigerians without any exception. A Nigerian life lost is loss to all of us.

“Hearing that aside the 73 buried here, more than 80 others have been killed in different parts of Benue is even more shocking to I believe it will be more shocking to all Nigerians who will be hearing that. There is no doubt that we haven’t got it right. We haven’t got it right because whatever is behind this, normally in any civilized society we must get to the root of it.

“And until we get to the root of this we will be burying victims. We will be assuming what is not assumable, because we must know why is this happening and who we must put and end to it. And somebody must accept the responsibility to put an end to this. If it has to be a collective responsibility, then so be it. But there must be an end to it.”

“We cannot talk of a free country, a secure country, a country where we will want development to take place, where we will want to invite investors from outside and from inside and we are suffering this type of senselessness.

“I do hope that there would be an end to this. Gorvernor, please accept my condolence and do not give up trying to work with men and women that have the interest of this state and the interest of Nigeria at heart to find a permanent solution.

“This to me goes beyond what is on the surface. And we need to find out what is at the bottom of it. And that is the responsibilities of leaders and of course, they must leave no stone unturned to find what the root cause of this and put a stop to it.

“We must know why it is happening and we must put an end to it, someone must take responsibility to put an end to it. We cannot talk of a free, secure country where we will want development to take place and investors to come to be suffering this type of senselessness.

“Nothing can be worse than what we have seen here; graveside of innocent people who should not have died that have died. The living still have hope, but those who have died are gone forever. Those who lost their loved ones, what do we say to them? Since I have taken time to come here, I will try to see anything that is worth seeing but finding solution is paramount,” Obasanjo said.

The Imo state Commissioner for Happiness, Mrs Ogechi Ololo, has appealed to men in her State to try to marry two or more women and stop the idea of one man , one woman as a way of reducing prostitution and redundancy among Imo state Women.

Speaking in Owerri state capital this morning, Commissioner Ogechi said Imo state has more women than men forcing a lot of unmarried women to commit adultery with other people’s husbands.

The commissioner said according to statistics, out of approximately 3.9 million Imo state indigenes, 3 million are women and only .9 million are men.

“I am not forcing you, but just encouraging you to marry two or more wives to reduce on women staying without husbands”.

Commissioner Ogechi told a conference of about 14,000 men who were receiving training in various life skills in the commercial capital.

“Our women are crying every day due to lack of men to marry and support them economically hence they engage in prostitution. So please try to work hard and be productive so that you can help our women by marrying two or more wives provided you are able to provide for their basic needs”.

“As government, we shall be giving some small incentives to such men provided you don’t abuse your wives”, said Commissioner Ogechi.

Imo state is said to have the highest level of prostitution in South East among young girls and women who are not in school or formal employment
