Nigeria can never, never, modernize, transform or industrialize until she goes through political restructuring. There are basically two schools of thoughts on why Nigeria is not working economically or politically. One camp believes, is bad leadership & corruption, and the other camp believes is foundational political dysfunctional structure. To me, let there be a scientific( not academic) research studies undertaking on those. You will be surprise to find out on corruption eg, that those hausa/fulani stealing $billions are on economic jihad against the infidels and the southerners corruptly enriching themselves are born out of extreme greed and selfishnes due to the dysfunctional political structure we inherited(I hope am wrong). How can devaluation of naira cure something that is a religious obligation and spiritual??.

The ultimate outcome of all these, some 80% or so of the population will below $1 a day of existence, the middle class will become extinct quick quick, Nigeria will be depopulated as tens of millions of people will die out due to shorter average life span. By the way, if you apply this basic math(I think I saw that in UN wesite). At a population of 180 million with an average life span of 55yr with the developed and the newly developed world average of 70yr translate that Nigeria will loose 40 to 50 millions of her population by the year 2045. And when you back track that calculations from 1960 after the independence, you will figure out how many millions have perished due to this inherited dysfunctionality.

What I will say though, is that some of us who come here to constantly complain about the perceived state of Nigeria need to reexamine their viewpoint. Nigeria is currently fighting against forces you wouldn’t believe

Actually, compared to the hundreds of millions which have been poured into the physical and media/PR campaign against Nigeria, Nigeria has held it’s own pretty solidly. I may not be a military expert, but I am a PR expert and so I know a concerted PR campaign when I see one. Certain Western government elements and their allied business interests are currently running a full scale psychological warfare operation against Nigeria.

This is why all manner of myths, exaggerations and ridiculous lies about Nigeria and Boko Haram are consistently recycled and repeated despite an abundance of easily available evidence to the contrary.

If you come here and accuse Nigeria and its Armed Forces of “corruption” all the time and tell yourself that this is “constructive criticism”, then you are actually a success story for their psy-op.

Nowadays even Nigerian soldiers have been affected by this NLP and we have seen these situations where some Young Turks on the frontline decide to disobey their CO’s because the association of the word “corruption” with their superiors has convinced them that their superiors are sending them to face nuclear armed opposition with sticks and stones – whereas this manifestly is not the case.

“Corruption” has become Nigeria’s no 1 national trigger word and dissociation complex. I only have to ACCUSE a public official or a military officer of “being corrupt” and immediately his reputation is damamged forever.

This is VERY dangerous and you don’t need me to tell you why. A study of South America in the 20th century and the Arab nations more recently should reveal how effective the use of trigger phrases and national psyche-complexes is in foisting Western-sponsored regime change on countries.

The founding fathers of the American society in the bid to win their freedom from Britain didn’t say,”wait until we get there,” enough to know what to do, how to run the affairs of the country when they get there. They knew what to do and framed agreements and concessions for a just society before they got there. It was no wonder then that they decreed religious freedom for all, tolerance for all even though that country was founded on christian principles. It was no wonder that the North took up arms against the south and other confederate states in a civil war to free the slaves when the Southerners failed to honour agreements to free them.

But in Africa, Eritrea – had no fore plan on how to govern her people when she went to war with Ethiopia, and even though she got her independence, she is now in limbo after winning her freedom from Ethiopia.

South-Sudan won her freedom and without shame today needs international bodies to teach her how to govern her oil rich country. Such talk is understandable, but what isn’t agreeable to me was when I heard one say again, “that when war breaks, I will personally shoot saboteurs even if they are our brothers when they stand in our way to get our freedom.” I had to engage them healthily, giving second opinion on why war for the second time in Nigeria shouldn’t be contemplated, most of all by youngsters who do not know the pangs of war. Regrettably, we couldn’t reason together. Their minds were made up. I left them with a poser,”you may have a leader but not a government, failed republics fail because of the absence of real government and countries do not succeed only because they have good leaders.”

One thing I noticed was the way, they were dressed, expensively! And wondered how they would dress and survive should war break?

What plans do they have in place to administer the republic especially as they told me:”we will know what to do when we get our country.”

[b]A few weeks before, after mass, for I am a Catholic, I heard a man of advanced years say emphatically to another, “we will break up this country and get our republic.” To think that he made such statement after leaving the Lord’s temple, left me wondering if he is truly a Christian. Today I look at him suspiciously.

Not long ago, a Knight that I know took the same stance as the man in the foregoing. This Knight is wealthy, highly exposed individual, those kinds who go a golfing.

How else can you rationalize a situation where a youngster who hasn’t got the dole of democracy from the government in his region and was forced to move out and struggle to eke a living in Port Harcourt and elsewhere assume that secession will automatically solve all of his life’s challenges?

Various research have shown that people display high levels of belligerence, grandstanding, intemperate behaviours, etc., especially those with dull speculative resume, when they are brainwashed by the state, educated elites and the informed who choose to educate wrongly. Remember Hitler and his butchering rowdies, some clerics in the north and dangerous preachments prior to numerous religious crisis, in the north, and now the elites in the south-east are doing the same.

It is not enough to tersely say publicly that “the protests do not have the support or blessing of the leaders of the zone.” The Rwandese did likewise before the genocide.

Our youths, have veered off the right path. No thanks to the elites, educated, academics, political class and the religious. I know so. I see the puckered brow the youth wear when I ask that we reason together. I see hatred on faces and hear swapping denunciations. The minds are really locked. Who will open them? We are on our way quickly to Rwanda. A forbidden prospect.

While I still remember, those who look up to members of the international community, should bear in mind how they double-speak when issues concerning Africa come to public attention. Rwanda and the Nigerian civil wars are cases in point.

MY LAST ADVICE FOR NDIGBO
You may not succeed in Biafra if you haven't solve the issue of intra-ethnic segregation and start cooperating. Biafra will end up being a joke if an anambra man cannot see an IMO man as a brother or an ngwa man detests an Onitsha man.

Will all the above advice, quell the fulani herdsmen slaughtering unhindered, hausa/fulanis slaughtering and burning down Christian Churches at the slightest provocation within and outside Nigeria?, stop the liquidation of human life by bokoharam unprecedented in human history?, build all the federal roads in the SE and SS, especially, the critical roads of Enugu -port, Enugu -Onitsha and etc, pollution of SS environment cos of oil, and monopolizing their oil wells and etc.

Igbo corporation within this contex is absolutely submission to slavery and cowardice like you yorubas, unless if you are defining a different kind of corporations that will produce a different outcomes from the above, I don't know.

Now, this is where Yoruba slavishly way of reasoning is extremely very painful. Ask him to honestly give his heart felt advice to the hausa/fulanis up north, he will be missing in action.

In other wards, Yorubas can never advice the north on critical issues that will sustain the Nation, but on irrelevant advice to the Igbos that will not have any iota of impact to the sustainance of the nation,......what a way to expose your cowardly and slavishly disposition.

I am a strong and unrepentant believer in a united and indivisible Nigeria. The strength in unity can never be over emphasized. Why the northern elites?

The unity of Nigeria was anchored on political and fiscal federalism. In fact, that was the cardinal demand of Northern Nigeria before agreeing independence. When Ironsi took over government after the failed Nzeogwu coup, he abolished the existing federalism and introduced unitary government. The north revolted and cited domination by Ironsi and his Igbo tribe. The murder of Ironsi by Danjuma and others in Ibadan was politically backed by the north because he abolished federalism in Nigeria.

Upon assumption of power, the northern elites reversed themselves and consolidated unitary governance and paid lip service to federalism. From that point, the machination started. They used their military wing to damage the country and created huge, selfish and hypocritical advantage for themselves. Their machination did not directly benefit the average northerner. The major culprits were Gowon, Murtala Mohammed, Babangida and Abacha.

Gowon started the dance by creating three states in the north in other to equalize the pre 1966 status of the south. While, the actions of Gowon could be justified by the need to ensure an effective war strategy to divide the front of the rebellious Biafra, Murtala Mohhamed’s state creation set the dangerous precedence that has skewed our federalism and made it useless. He allocated 10 states to the north and 9 to the south. IBB consolidated this injustice by expanding the northern advantage from one state over the south to two states.

IBB in fact went further to reconstitute the local government structure into a semi federating unit of the republic and created more councils in the north to enable them receive federal allocations. Prior to the IBB destruction of the fiscal federalism we practiced, the federal government had no business funding local government areas. Abacha completed the damage by whimsically creating LGAs that were lopsided. The north finally dwarfed the south in resource allocation.

Meanwhile, the pre 1966 revenue sharing formula was abolished. At that time, derivation was 50%, federal government 20% and remaining 30% was shared among the federating units. This to me is where the northern elites have failed not just other parts of Nigeria but the ordinary northerner that is deprived of equity.

Finally, my position is that we must continue to push for justice, but that cannot be on the basis of dissolution of the federation. All those preaching dissolution and war are anarchists, miscreants and nation wreckers. Men and women of goodwill from all parts of the country must join in the campaign to return the country to pre 1966 status.

Last Line: you cannot be patriotic, objective, humane and desires the vomiting of our eaten yams if you support an injustice simply because it endows you with some undeserved advantages.

Trash....any individual who shout unity or one Nigeria without first explaining how that can be achieved or the mechanics of it, it's an idiot to me.

Any individual, who does not see that the Igbo ethnic group is more of a Nigerian than the Yorubas and hausa/fulanis both in spirit and in physical, but have come to the conclusion that the Nigerian complex problems are in its foundational dysfunctional structure, and therefore want a restructure or they opt out....is an idiot to me.


Idiots, Nigerian complex and complicated problems, are not bad leadership, corruption and etc, but a foundational dysfunctional structure, that will never never ever see Nigeria transform into a modern progressive society. The ideal of one progressive Nigeria fits into the realm of the Igbo reality, just as the reality of hellish Nigeria is completely rejected in the realm of Igbo reality.

Gunmen attacked a five-star hotel in Mali's capital Bamako on Friday and are holding 170 hostages, witnesses said.

Attackers shouting "Allahu Akbar" opened fire outside the Radisson Blu Hotel in the centre of the capital before storming it.

Automatic weapon fire could be heard from outside the 190-room hotel where security forces set up a security cordon.

Speaking to Al Jazeera by phone from Bamako, business owner Garba Konate said a group of attackers showed up about three hours earlier.

"About 10 gunmen arrived early in the morning and shot all the guards in front of the Radisson," Konate said.

One of the guests reportedly staying at the hotel is Nigerian Aliko Dangote - the richest person in Africa.

"I started hearing gunshots coming from the hotel," said Ibrahim, 28, who works at a cultural centre 40 metres away from the hotel.

"Soon after I saw one of the guards running out, injured... The security guard told me the shooters were so quick that he doesn't even know how many came in," he told Al Jazeera.

The hotel's owner said it "is aware of the hostage-taking that is ongoing at the property today... As per our information two persons have locked in 140 guests and 30 employees," the company said in a statement.

The shooting follows a 24-hour siege and hostage-taking situation at another hotel in August in the central Malian town of Sevare.

Four soldiers, five UN workers, and four attackers were killed in that attack.

Armed groups have continued to wage attacks in Mali despite a June peace deal between former Tuareg rebels in the north of the country and rival pro-government armed groups.

Northern Mali fell in March-April 2012 to al-Qaeda-linked groups long concentrated in the area before being removed by a France-led military operation launched in January 2013.

Despite the peace deal, large swathes of Mali remain beyond the control of government and foreign forces.
