R2bees: IHEANACHO.... At least his exclusion would serve as a warning to those players that think our Darling SE is reserved for them regardless how they perform in their respective clubs. They should learn from this. You don't shite at your club then walk in to our AFCON squad like say na your papa get super eagles.
Nacho man will be back stronger, faster, better and deadlier.
One thing I know you can get stronger, possibly improve your finishing however, getting FASTER that's to change dramatically the dynamics of your game not possible.
charlesemeka85: forget pple wey they breath from their anus. rohr is just been ruthless and sincere by dropping iheanacho because taking him to afcon would have been criminal to the likes of awoniyi and other forwards you did better than nacho. rohr have no beef with nacho but just did what was needful to help the team
Shehu would have been dropped instead of Semilore Ajayi if Aina had covered himself in glory in the right back position. Rohr had to test Awaziem in the same position because of Aina's not to impressive performance. Had it been Rohr can trust Aina, believe me you Shehu would have been dropped.
Current form always exceeds past form when there is obvious proven improvement.
Aina has improved this season although l didn't think he got many chances to prove himself. By just club form alone Aina is justified you can not select a player based on past glories. It has to be present continous.
kellycute: yes he was given preferential treatment and u kn the true. Ighalo was given lot of opportunity to redeemed himself but nacho was left alone to rust. Trust me.. Nacho will bounce back.
I am bewildered by your blind emotive support for your preferred player KC.
You completely and entirely ignored club form based on consistent top quality performances. This the chore assessment that justifies your selection to the SE.
On that basis alone KC is comprehensively DISQUALIFIED he has been totally woeful for the past two seasons. How can a striker play 30 + games this season in the EPL and scored one goal.
Ighalo club form albeit a lower level league had been good. However, KC has become anonymous to be diplomatic.
There is no bias or prejudice, Rohr did not disqualify KC he did that himself, no prejudice.
kellycute: rohr messed up real bad. He would have given nacho atleast 30min to prove himself yesterday but he treated him like shi. T. I want nff to fire Rohr if he refuse to include nacho on the list. The last time I checked he gave lot of opportunity to ighalo to prove himself when he was going through rough path, I don't know why he doesn't wanna give nacho that same opportunity. He will lose his job if he refuse to include nacho. Nonsense and Rohr.
Your deduction is entirely anchored on the comparison between KC and Ighalo.
One question ❓ What was KC club form and what was Ighalo then compare the two. Underpin your deduction with the premise that it's your consistent outstanding performances at club level that qualify and justify SE call up.
Now add in to the mix the different attributes the players have. For instance Ighalo has presence and hold up play as a lone striker. Something KC simply doesn't have.
Now do you still think that Ighalo was given preferential treatment, HONESTLY SPEAKING ❓
Football development is not like a straight positive arithmetic progression. Some players will stagnate, some will regress and some that were never even considered as future prospects will progress geometrically.
Before I stick my head out for any young player I will like to see him play like 2-3 senior professional seasons whether in Europe or in the NPFL irrespective of his achievements at U17.
Even shinning at U23 doesn't guarantee a successful career not to talk of U17.
Icon4s: How the direction of the tide has changed. The first quarrel between us in this group was because of Iheanacho. I think a lot of us here have now come to realize that Youth Success is different from senior team Success.
They said I was too conservative with my expectations on young star players. I said it before that I have seen great Youth Players come and go. Very obvious talents. Majority of them fail to live up to expectations.
Now we understand why I don't trust every young player.
My take on Iheanacho is if he applies himself well in camp and puts in good enough shifts in the friendly games then Rohr should take him to Egypt. Else he should be dropped. But within my heart, unlike some, I am not yet ruling him out completely.
I would not say a lot with regards to the bold just a very few.
I have seen youth players bought for a million at 16 and after one season they are considered, " bad market" . Youth football always flatters to DECIEVE.
I actually have more optimimism for a youth players playing lower league but fighting his way up. I have seen possibly more non league players climb up than the so called academy prospects.
Consistency is the next thing, so many young players have one or two good seasons and just fizzle out.
Oasis007: Simon is Winger, some Arguments ain't worth it to be honest. It's a fantasy expecting Simon to thrive as an AM or a SS. He's better off as a Winger.
The best we've got now is Iwobi. Mikel ain't mobile as he was when he came into limelight, thus we've got to rely on Iwobi as a creative Player in the Squad.
Sometimes the quality of a player is not appreciated until he is playing with quality players around him.
It can also work vice versa l noticed that Mikel did not have overriding dominance in playing for Middlesbrough.
I have often wondered if you put Eze or Tega Onomah in the Arsenal team how well they would do. Or imagine Iwobi playing in QPR and Sheffield Wednesday how well would he do.
A call up for Eze and a Tega is over due maybe throw Ademola in the mix too.
BascoVanVeli: One goal and 4 assist for a back up striker is not bad at all. I don't give a sh*t about his price, did it come out of your pocket? When I bring up victor Osimhen you say Belgium is not a top league but now you want to play up a much lower Danish league to get your sentiments across. Where does Denmark rank on that your league ranking? Lower than Belgium I am sure you know.
Leon Balogun was a bench warmer this season and you people want to give him an exemption but want to use that same mouth to talk down a much younger Iheanacho.
Consider what you have posted and ask yourself HONESTLY does it make any sense.
You have unashamedly changed the goal post, KC is now a back up striker. So Leicester paid £25 million for a back up striker. Honestly you suppose shame small with this your analysis if it can be called that.
His price is reflective of the expectation placed on him by Leicester City it's not an irrelevance.
Leonardo Balogun has been a bench warmer but has been very good for the SE when he has played. In comparison KC has not been very good to be diplomatic.
Now who is being emotive and sentimental, HONESTLY speaking ❓
TheGoodJoe: I can tell you the good things Sterling said about Rodgers too.
No one can deny the impact of Rodgers at Celtics and now at Leicester City. He was also amazing at Swansea. They played one of the best brands in the EPL when he was there.
I will definitely listen to Brendan Rodgers because he has first hand information.
I am talking about what Raheem said not what he said to the media.
This is from Brendan Rodgers who works daily with Iheanacho. A man who has coached the likes of Sterling, Suarez and Coutinho. “I’ve been impressed with him,” Brendan Rodgers said.
“His appetite, his work, and then in games, where he has come on, whether it’s for five minutes or for 15 minutes, he’s impacted the game and done very well, and he nearly did again, it’s just unfortunate."
Everything Brendan has said is just waffle it don't mean anything.
The pertinent question us what has KC done in recent times in all honesty Absolutely NUTTIN.
I could tell you what Raheem said about Brendan but it's not printable, and it's not very palatable and it's more condemnation.
So because Brendan says all that Waffle you are carried away, you clearly dont know Brendan.
forgiveness: I just saw your third paragraph. None.
But Belgium pro League players walk into big teams or perform well in the EPL.
Mainly the creme de La creme of that league although l don't recall many strikers making the step up from the Belguim league to the EPL and being outstanding.
BascoVanVeli: No contenders? Omeruo, Ekong, Awaziem and even Ajayi are pretenders abi?
If you want to be mister holier than thou u need to go all out in being honest. Iheanacho played more than Balogun true or false? Iheanacho's competition play in considerably lower leagues compared to Balogun true or false? So in fact you are the one with sentiment and emotive favoritism that is almost delusional if I am to be honest.
You don't know what honesty is, you have to have objectivity to be honest, you simply don't.
The pertinent issue is performances not just games played.
KC played more games than Balogun but can you be honest and assess his performance ❓ Has it been satisfactory, above average, good or abysmally woeful, please tell us HONESTLY ❓❓
Considering KC cost £25 million would you say there has been a good return on Leicester city's investment❓ HONESTLY speaking ❓ ❓
What would you describe a return of one goal in the EPL all season after 30 games. Please be HONEST❓
To make sure you do not get confused let me give you the meaning of HONESTY just in case you do not know.
free of deceit; truthful and sincere, straightforward frank, candid, genuine forthright, impartial, unprejudiced, OBJECTIVE, etc.
Omeruo and Ekong were never in dispute they are the regular CB's of the SE and there is no contention about thier positions they are the best we have for now. Awaziem is a contender thats all and in my opinion a very average one.
If by club form osimhen is a beast and he is new to the eagles and I know osimhen will do well in afcon
Club form and eagles form nacho is very poor ,or you want to keep living by past glories ?
Club form and eagles form ighalo is doing well so please explain your point ?
Have any player score more goals than ighalo in the past few months apart from osimhen because he is new to the eagles that we have to give it to them ?
Thank you
What about Onuachu❓Is he not deserving of a call up , he has been consistent over the past few seasons.
This is Osimhen first real full season of first team competitive football. Great promise and potential but l would place Onuachu slightly over him, he bring something completely different albeit he lacks pace.
Bolowolowo: Now makes sense why Iwobi and Ekong won’t feature Gernot Rohr to feature players with limited club action against Zimbabwe
By Calista Jacob-Akpan -June 4, 2019
Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has revealed that he will give players who didn’t have enough game time at their clubs opportunity to play Saturday’s friendly encounter against the Warriors of Zimbabwe.
The likes of of Leon Balogun and Kelechi Iheanacho struggled for regular playing time at English Premier League clubs, Brighton Hove & Albion, and Leicester City respectively. And Rohr is ready to start working on their match rustiness.
Balogun only made eight league appearances for Brighton, while Iheanacho started most of Leicester City’s games from the bench.
“I want to see a lot of players who are not playing so much, give them the opportunity to play,” Rohr told reporters after team’s evening training session in Asaba on Monday.
“It can be for some defenders like Balogun, he is fit but he didn’t play so much, so we want to see him playing on Saturday and also some players like Kelechi who didn’t play at all, so we want to see him play on Saturday”.
The two-time African champions opened camping in Asaba, Delta State on Sunday for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations billed to hold in Egypt later this month.
Super Eagles are expected to leave for Ismaila, Egypt on Sunday for the final lap of their preparations.
Rohr’s Eagles’ last pre-tournament friendly is against Senegal, billed for the Ismailia Stadium on June 16.
The three-time African champions will get their AFCON 2019 campaign underway against Burundi on June 22 at the Alexandria Stadium in Alexandria, before taking on Guinea at the same venue four days later.
They will wrap up their group encounters against Madagascar, once again in Alexandria, on June 30.
The AFCON 2019 is billed to take place in Egypt from the 21st of June to the 20th of July.
There are exceptions to players not getting game time for instance player manager disagreement. Or in some cases there are players who are just simply much better than him.
However, that's not the case with KC he has simply diminished from season to season. There is no amount of training you will do in a few weeks that will turn him into a being a prolific outstanding forward players.
That's sentiment and emotive favoritism that is almost delusional.
Selection to the SE is not on past glories but current consistent continous top class outstanding performances in your club and league. NOTHING ELSE should be considered.
If there were no other options available to the SE then there could be some justification. But what about Onuachu and others.
With regards to Balogun he has done well for the SE and we don't seem to have many contenders in the CB position.
forgiveness: Na now wey dem reject am em remember mother love. Who is he deceiving?
Anyway, it's a welcome development.
I don't think Tega is deceiving anybody na Warri pikin Eéeeeeee be since, im no de form.
Actually when was he invited to the SE that he declined ❓ l actually rated him more than Oviemuno, he just has not been able to get a good run of games to progress hi career.
I can't see him breaking into the Tottenham team so he will probably be sold next season.
Danielnino00: I'm not talking about this season.. I'm talking about the super eagles.. of what use is it if Aina wins the serie A player of the season but still can't replicate such good performance in the GWG?
Player selection in every national team is usually based on sentient.. Why did Deschamps drop Lacazette fot Giroud at the world cup? Why did Germany drop Sane? Why did Portugal drop Nelson Semedo? why did Belgium drop Nainngolan?? ..Its all based on the coach preference.. and it was glaring to all that Aina didn't do well..
So I ask u again, mention one good game he has had in the GWG to prove that he deserves a starting shirt!!
Aina was primarily a RB when he came in but was put in at LB. Comparative to Ebuehi who came in to play 5-3-3 which gave him more freedom to attack as well coming in the second half. I would not say he didn't do well.
Football doesn't remain static players improve and even loose form over just one season.
2017/18 Fikayo Tomori was playing RB and was not good enough for me. Well this season he played CB and is arguably the best CB in the Championship. He was awarded as Derby best player of the season. That's just in one season.
Oasis007: Some are kinda amazed coz I include Simon Moses in my presumed lineup. Lest we forget, he's 23yrs old. He was a Monster prior to his Injury and nearly signed for Liverpool.
Steer up anything or anybody your gut tells you to. I will not even mention any of my brothers here. You don buy market today. I have the time. Ebuehi is better than Aina at RB. Simon is a hardworker but Rohr may not pick him. You may oblige me and drink Sniper when it turns out so.
Football comparison is not so simplistic.
Currently speaking Ebuehi hasnt played for a long on account of injury. Comparatively Aina has been playing regularly and most likely improving.
Although I haven't seen Ebuehi this season recovering from ACL is very difficult.
Bearing these issues in mind currently l would say that Aina is well ahead and better.
forgiveness: I doubt Iheanacho will be dropped. However, I still want to see Onuachu play again before I form my opinion because I don't rate that Denmark league one bit.
If he doesn't impress, Iheanacho all the way. The devil you know is better than.......
However, Semi Ajayi stands a better chance because Awaziem has not considered him in that CB position lately. Besides, he has Shehu and Aina to contend with in the RB position.
Onuachu gives the SE a different option that Iheanacho can not offer.
It's a difficult question, can he Onuachu stand up and be counted in comparison to the other options. The only contenders are Osihmen and Iheanacho.
In comparison he is more consistent and regards the Denmark league there are questions but so also are there questions about the Belguim league.
Iheanacho has been impotent for two seasons and he doesn't even look like he can up his game.
