Onyiiobi7735:Your post here is absolutely FALSE! Check the attached screenshots below for more historical information. This is exactly how some highly dishonest young Ibos on an NL frontpage thread blatantly lied that egusi is not a Yoruba word but from their language. Fortunately well-read folks of Yoruba descent took all of them to the cleaners when it was CLEARLY shown that EGUNSI (egusi) is a Yoruba word that was already recorded in the first Yoruba-English dictionary published in 1843! The first Ibo dictionary by Bishop Crowther in 1888 however had NO egusi or even Egwusi listed in it and subsequent editions simply because ELILI or Enini are the original Ibo names for melon (egusi). =>https://www.nairaland.com/8047476/igbo-soups-all-nigerian-tribes The final blow to the relentless liars among the young Ibos who SHAMEFULLY do not know their own history came when the screenshot of the Longman Ibo dictionary were uploaded on that thread and the Longman entry under egusi CLEARLY showed that the IBOS got the word egusi as a LOAN word from the "Yor" (Yorubas). The entry also referenced Elili as the ACTUAL Ibo name for the yoruba word egusi. That also AFFIRMED that egusi soup has been eaten in Yorubaland for centuries. These are facts that older Ibo scholars such as J.C. Echeruo who contributed to that Longman in Ibo dictionary already knew... That egusi is an original Yoruba word. =>https://www.nairaland.com/8047476/igbo-soups-all-nigerian-tribes/1 Kudos to the Yoruba folks for having a Westernized and educated elite and middle class in the 1800s and for documenting their linguistic and cultural histories as far back as the 1800s which have enabled the ability to debunk the inciting LIES and historical FORGERIES by cultural thieves among the younger Ibos trying to STEAL and claim Yoruba words as theirs.

Magnificenttop:@Magnificenttop, Props to you for your insightful responses to those narcissistic trolls whose monikers you quoted. These overbearing creeps didn't even bother to watch the explanatory YouTube video here on page 1. Tbh, it's amazing that this Website called NL is owned by a Yoruba dude (He spends more time on X than on his own Website) who acts in a politically correct manner, yet Yorubas and their culture have openly come under the most toxic and relentless attacks on multiple threads by MAJORLY Ibo ethnic bigots and trolls who derail threads and those who just want to read thread posts and move on can't even concentrate properly. There are many Diasporans and citizens of many countries worldwide who will be reading this thread topic and other threads that will be dissapointed in the total lack of quality control by the Moderators here! As a non-Ibo, you can't try the B.S. these small but relentless, narcissistic Ibo trolls are doing openly right here on NL, on Ibo-owned Websites, the admins of those sites would take you down. This thread with the detailed video explaining the many difference types of soups the Yoruba folks have had for centuries would have been a fantastic thread for learning about cuisines from other cultures like that of the Yorubas and more, BUT these well-known monikers owned by ethnic bigots and youngsters of Ibo origin keep jumping from thread to thread derailing topics, and planting FAKE stories just to tarnish the image of others. Seun has failed in creating the sanity here which he promised in December of 2023 with his Moderators. I have used NL since 2005, and the last 10 years of NL have been the worse years on this Website tbh. The original registration process here is the MAJOR cause of all the nonsense! When trolls and bigots gets banned for violating NL rules, within 3 minutes, they instantly create new monikers with free throwaway emails and even blatantly taunt the moderators for banning them. We have given insightful suggestions to the NL Admins for years on how to STOP this but the owner has turned a deaf ear to optimizing this Website with the business ruthlessly that it deserves. A new NL account should always be manually checked and ONLY given approval after 2 to 3 days so that any SLUR words used to create a moniker and IP addresses can be verified or detected by the Admin. This is how prominent American and British discussion forums which I belong to operate before Nairaland even came into existence in 2005 function. Last but not least, I remember a thread that hit the NL frontpage in April 2024 where these same overbearing young Ibo trolls relentlessly insulted Yoruba folks and claimed FALSELY that Yorubas stole the word Egusi and Egusi soup that Yorubas have eaten for centuries from them, until to the ETERNAL DISGRACE of these group of overbearing Ibos, the Internet savvy and historically well-read Yoruba folks online uploaded massive evidence from the oldest 1843 English-Yoruba dictionary showing that the word Egusi was contained in that book, meaning that Ibos borrowed it after 1900 from Yoruba folks and even the Longman English-Ibo dictionary CLEARLY stated as shown in the screenshot attached below that Egwusi is an Ibo borrowed or LOAN word from "Yor" the Yoruba language. The original Ibo name for the Yoruba word EGUSI is ELILI as recorded in the older Ibo dictionaries. Another attached screenshot below from an academic institution in the South East of Nigeria ALSO clearly states that the Yoruba words AKARA, MOIN MOIN, AGIDI, ELUBO are direct Yoruba words that Ibos have borrowed or LOANED from the Yorubas. The document published by the Ebonyi-based Ibo academic also indicates that Ibos have borrowed words that they don't have words for such as FOODS, CLOTHES, TECHNOLOGIES and more from other ethnic groups such as the Efiks, Igalas, Yorubas, and Hausas. Cc: @Magnificenttop, I've just attached the screenshots below at last. Kindly read them and share with others.

Blessedpalms:You're 33 and still a youth. I silently read your post and instinctively deduced that you are going through a turning point right now with all the headwinds you're running into. In the final analysis, YOU are the TOTAL sum of all your experiences in life and how you handle things from here on out will determine your success or failure down the road. First off you have to engage in NOT just what you are passionate about, BUT also what will bring you sustainable daily income. Look for problems and find solutions to those problems on a medium to large scale and get paid for doing so. Second, look at some of the most successful folks in any field of human endeavor that you like and mirror yourself after the top 3 folks in that field. Read books and autobiographies about what they did to get to where they are. Trust me, a vast number of folks who are millionaires and billionaires had it very rough while growing up. I read a testimonial post by a young lady in her early 30s here on NL last month who said she just made her first 1 million Naira. I asked her what she did to get to that level and she said she was into buying and selling of things and had lost her father at a young age so had to struggle through her education and didn't want to go into prostitution so she had to work hard. I gave her some more tips and insights of what to do to make her business grow sustainably and she was thankful for the advice. Just because you said or posted here that you don't like "complaining" about situations (and truly I went through the first page of your posts) and found that you didn't use swear words or curse words. This is the major reason I decided to say my piece here from a fresh perspective and I know you'll gain unique insights from my years of experience as an older man. Last but NOT least, your going through a turning point now at 33 is simply an opportunity for you NOT to let the social consciousness OR societal pressures to weigh you down, BUT get into self-introspection, set CLEAR targets or measurable goals with your pen and paper, and then unleash the unlimited opportunities in you that'll be for the benefit of all. Some people don't hit that point of millionaire or billionaire success UNTIL they are 40, 50, or 60 years old... Yes, That's a historical fact of life! Also remember, "Money doesn't change a man, it ONLY amplifies what is already there." Read up on the "80/20 percent principle" otherwise known as the "Pareto Principle" to enable you to efficiently maximize your time. This is an advanced yet simple time management strategy when you get a hang of it. Cheers. P.S. Also, get (from a bookstore near you) a hard copy of the classic "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill, where he clearly indicated the principles taken by America's early or pioneer USD millionaires from the 1800s right through to the early 1900s. I first read a hard copy of the book in 1995, and I still have the book among several business and finance-related books in my personal home library. |
Tamarah:This is what is called low-blowing! Better for real, mature masculine men to get married to more mature older woman who are in their very late 20s to 30s. By them they would have acquired the ability for self-introspection instead of the kind of highly immature words and potentially defamatory outbursts we're reading right here. |

OboOlora:Brass is expected to get new leadership as its founders exit, but no announcement has been made to that effect. In the meantime, its new leadership has the task of rebuilding customer trust after a trying few months for the four-year-old startup. Per TechCabal, the company reportedly has ₦2 billion in debt on its balance sheet, which its leadership cannot account for. My take on this: A so-called tech firm that has a reported N2 billion debt on its balance sheet is what Olumide and his team have acquired. Those loses are huge. |
nlfpmod:Per TechCabal, the company reportedly has ₦2 billion in debt on its balance sheet, which its leadership cannot account for. While the acquisition means new business for Paystack and Piggytech, there could be more liabilities to take on than assets. |
defashan:You went overboard with your use of "body shaming" adjectives here. Neither did she make fun of Bellinda the actress within the context of her post... I intuitively deduced that she was just excited to see in realtime someone who acts in movies. Not to forget, both of them had a friendly convo together on the movie industry. Even in the U.S., a lot of folks get starstruck and instinctively rush to collect autographs and more. Yeah, she can do with some more weight loss diet and exercise regimens but she'll do so as and when due. Period. |

PriceActionZ:Thanks to folks like you and others who understand Yoruba fluently and pointed that misleading video posted by the OP out. This is a further lesson to show how dangerous wannabe bloggers and YouTubers can be when it ones to the spread of false rumors. |
ebukajay184:Dude, I've read the views of Yoruba folks here (who understand what the late young singer's father said in Yoruba language) say your TRANSLATION is very inaccurate and you just shared a FAKE story here on NL with your video. Take note and don't share misleading information again. The moderators too who pushed this to the frontpage has to take note. |

KnowledgePower7:The visual images in the video are indeed gross. They say it's a fringe group among the Jews but how come the physical assaults and spitting incidents have persisted for years? There's a wider covert support for these passive-aggressive incidents by the rogue elements among the Jewish dudes. |
FeliciaOja:Bump. This is an insightful thread. People have to learn NOT to derive their medium to long-term joy OR happiness from soccer because on the field of play, any of those soccer team players can dissapoint soccer fans and leave you heart broken tbh. Ever since many of those boys started making millions from soccer in the 1980s, a couple of them started playing nonsense in the fields of play because that hunger to play well evaporated after making money from endorsements and weekly salaries. I used to like watching soccer tournaments right from the 1980s Senior Soccer World Cups through to the 1990s (especially from the Atlanta, USA, 1994 Olympic Games Gold medal won by the spectacular display on the field of play by the Nigerian soccer team). After series of loses during crucial soccer tournaments and my favorite teams lost, the scales finally fell off my eyes after due to emotional pain from those series of loses. Self-awareness enabled me to quickly develop more interest in other sports or hobbies that do NOT involve a lot team members. Often times, it just takes one, two or three young, overfed and non-motivated millionaires among those soccer players to spoil things for everyone! So, chess, golf, scrabble, archery, darts, basketball, martial arts, etc, are some of the sports or games that I gravitated towards when I dumped soccer in the VERY early 2000s. I have absolute peace of mind now. Second, sports gambling is another thing that I strongly think lead a lot of these young folks to get intensely fanatical or emotional about soccer loses. It's really weird when you get to see the abnormal attitudes they often display while watching soccer, such as screaming excessively, kicking their legs into the air, using foul language or slur words. I have NO regrets for gravitating away from soccer because of the negatives associated with it. I can even watch soccer matches as of now (without having throbbing chest aches) because I do NOT have intense emotional connections to it. |
ebukajay184:This is a stealing, tbh. Knocking off another young man's clothing line designs has got to be one of the most irresponsible, criminal things to do. It stiffles creativity, hence the law enforcement agencies MUST move right into Aba or any other locations where these fake cloths are being sold openly and get the criminals prosecuted in court. The NAFDAC folks and security agencies have been stealthily arresting a lot of these fraudulent guys making fake malt drinks, fake wines, fake pharmaceutical drugs, repackaged expired foods, and more in Aba, Onitsha, Alaba International in Lagos, etc, so, there's a precedent of covert and overt actions against these creeps. |

Goke7:@Goke7, I'm fully aware of the 2014/2015 multibillion Naira court case against DAAR Communications and Raymond Dokpesi over the criminal defamation of character of Bola Tinubu which was later settled out of court after the judge found DAAR guilty of spreading falsehoods in the serial documentaries on AIT and ordered the management of DAAR Communications to apologize to Bola Tinubu for defaming him, and this is why I benchmarked in my original post, the timeframe to "within the last 10 years" of relentless online and offline defamation. I agree that in some instances, it's noble and good to be tolerant, BUT in the information age or Internet age, when there's relentless criminal defamation and spread of outright falsehoods spread really fast online and offline, you have to act FAST to counter misleading information, otherwise the general public would assume that those falsehoods that have been left to fester without being addressed are TRUE. A Professional PR maxim indicates that: Perception is NOT reality, PERCEPTION is Stronger than REALITY." |
DesignMaestro:I understand what you are driving at here, BUT I disagree to a significant degree with the last point of yours (because we are in the Internet age slash social media age and YOU cannot be completely DEAF to all your detractors, some who have even been calling for a change of government through a military coup! Get this VERY clear so that you do not misquote me (or put words into my mouth). NEVER did I imply in my original post that you quoted here that "he should bark like a dog for every stone thrown at him." It's a globally known fact that in professional Public Relations, YOU do NOT allow any criminal defamation or any negative news about your company or self to fester for too long. The public will end up thinking that the FALSE rumors are true. Perception is NOT reality... indeed PERCEPTION is STRONGER than reality! If Nuhu Ribadu as the NSA didn't see how highly dangerous and incendiary the false allegations made by the Kano guy were, he wouldn't have threatened to sue the Deputy-Governor of Kano and asked for a public apology which he promptly got within 24 hours. Reno also posted a message few months ago about how the relentless negative information being deliberately spread online and offline by a section of the opposition to tarnish the government were damaging to Tinubu's government. Recently too, I saw a video where Tinubu said he doesn't watch or follow Social Media anymore because of the insults he received during the election cycle and I was stunned and a little embarrassed because as the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, such comments shouldn't emanate from him. Anybody that is responsible for deliberately pushing out fake videos and falsehoods about him with the intent to damage his reputation and mislead the public should be tracked and punished after appearing in any court of law. Period. I don't like when people who are relentlessly criminally defamed in the public space put up a "politically correct" image and leave everything to God or whatever! There are laws worldwide that deal with online and offline defamation and that should be tested. Professional PR specialists will tell you how NOT addressing specific such as false rumors (such as those who daily call him a druggie or drug baron on NL and other online platforms) on time lead to the festering of the falsehoods and they become very difficult to correct. Till date, as an older man who witnessed the years of military dictatorships back in Nigeria, I appreciate the role he (Tinubu) played back in the military dictatorship years especially in the early 1990s as a pro-democracy activist alongside other folks (Uni students, Wole Soyinka, lawyers, great journalists like Bayo Onanuga, Kunle Ajibade, Odion Akhaine, former Governor Kayode Fayemi, who was in charge of "Radio Kudirat" which was originally broadcasting live from the headquarters of the BBC at Bush House in London, etc). Being politically correct in the Internet age where criminal defamation, fake videos and fake news go viral isn't the best strategy. This is the reason why Professor Wole Soyinka emphasized strongly at a publicized BBC conference that took place in Lagos a few years back that "fake news" could trigger a 3rd World War. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) too had been a victim of fake news via cloned Websites that looked exactly like that of BBC. It wasn't until 21 days later that BBC got to know about the cloned BBC Websites that were being used to spread fake news worldwide. There's a Global Disinformation Team at BBC today because they realize how highly destructive criminal defamation and FAKE news can be to businesses and for global security. Cc: Goke7 I've included my response to you here as well to save time. Cheers. |
Ishilove:This is where standard CCTV cameras are needed in such institutions for the physically challenged tbh. Such devices would easily smoke out any potential creepy sex offenders or perverts for prosecution in the courts of law. I've been reading of this kind of stories for years now (as far back as the 1990s), and the authorities must wake up to standardize all institutions for the visually and auditorilly challenge people. |
