The guy is a winner.
Indeed, ShenTeh.

You know what? I never gravitated towards this guy's story when the BBC interview took place last year, and there was an uproar from some folks of Nigerian descent over the interview.

But I took some time to do some checks on him today and found him to be an eloquent guy who ONLY stated the FACTS in a way that seemed politically incorrect for some.

I eventually subscribed to his YouTube channel for the first time today because of the insidious attacks on him. So, this segues right into what you also posted here that the "unverified news" of his alleged deportation here on NL would drive Web traffic to his online platforms and it certainly has because he just got a new fan.

Thanks for your insights.

It's obviously a fake viral story to tarnish Emdee Tiamiyu's image. The expelled ex-student of Oxford Uni, David Hundeyin has this deportation story posted on his X handle as well.

Envy (induced by low self-esteem) and narcissism are behind these kinds of hateful and misleading stories from wannabe bloggers and YouTubers. A simple fact-check just like you and others have clearly done would have unraveled the truth of whether he was deported or NOT. Some of these wannabe YouTubers are weak, emotional jerks, tbh.

I never really gravitated towards the story of this young man's interview with the BBC and the uproar that followed when it broke last year (2023), but I developed symphathies for him today due to the insidious attacks on him on this thread and on X over the fake deportation story. I even finally subscribed to his YouTube channel well.

God1000:
A dramatic turn of events has unfolded in Abuja, where a prominent pastor, Stanley Ogbonna, has allegedly forced his wife and six children out of their family home.

In a viral video, the wife has courageously spoken out against her husband, revealing a tumultuous marriage marked by allegations of domestic violence, infidelity, and emotional distress.

Despite her devotion to their relationship, the wife claims to have suffered in silence for years, enduring a marriage that has been marred by her husband's purported transgressions.

In a shocking revelation, she also accuses Pastor Ogbonna of sexually assaulting their housemaid, an incident that has reportedly left their marriage beyond repair.

As the divorce case continues to unfold in court, the public is left wondering how Pastor Ogbonna will respond to these grave allegations.

She has to get a good family lawyer here so that things can be handled more professionally.

After having 6 children for him, he probably doesn't find her sexy or appealing anymore, but the total welfare of those kids come first.

On the other hand, she made very grave allegations in the recorded video against her Pastor spouse over the SEXUAL assault on their female housemaid. He's gonna be in deep trouble if this is found to be TRUE.

letter was sent april 7 has nothing to do with prince and duchess
Succinctly stated here.

The routine Ramp Inspection of the airline's wet leased Boeing 777 took place on April 7, 2024 and all the serious issues raised were allegedly cleared by the airline over one month ago.

Someone who is an insider leaked the UKCAA document sent to the NCAA to the Nigerian press who then proceeded to publish it and some of them blew things off by using sensational headlines without giving the airline the right of defense.

In crime investigations, all perspectives are looked at with a bird's eye view because the leakage of the UKCAA document could have come from anywhere. Even an insider from within the airline could have done the document leakage so to generate sympathies or a publicity buzz using some kind of reverse psychology.

In any event, the press release by the airline is okay and lessons have to be learned by everyone to always carry out fact-checks from here on out.
TravelRe: "Safety Violation" Air Peace Reacts To UK Regulator’s Claim, Says NCAA Approved by Konquest:
Racoon:
“During the inspection, the books were stored under the jumpseat, as it is commonly practised. We understand the inspector’s preference for the books to be placed behind the captain and have ensured this preference is accommodated for all operations going forward.

“There was also a concern about the captain’s choice of runway exit after landing. Instead of exiting at the middle runway exit, the captain, out of his professional discretion, opted to exit at the end of the runway.

“This may have delayed the arrival of another aircraft. We acknowledge this deviation and have addressed the matter with the captain to ensure adherence to preferred exit procedures in the future.

“Ramp Inspection is a normal procedure carried out by aviation authorities globally, and the UKCAA did the right thing by notifying the NCAA of the outcome of their inspection.

“However, we are shocked to see several media publications with exaggerated and sensationalised accounts of this matter that were closed with the authorities over a month ago.”

Air Peace said its safety record is second to none, adding that it complies with all established safety standards.

There's a communication gap somewhere which the airline has to bridge. A robust line of communication backed up with documented evidence have to be created to prevent these sorts of situations and doubts next time.

Most international businesses (or multinational companies) experience snafus, and misrepresentations from time to time due to country-specific cultural differences or different work ethics in every country of the world. So, the publications of timely press releases by the professional PR teams of companies are very important for dispelling FALSE rumors (there are true rumors and false rumors).

Hehehe! I used to see these golden stripes on the shoulders of a Nigerian Airways Beoing 747 jumbo jet pilot back then in the 1980s at Ikeja Airport and kept wondering if they are the straight lines on the tarmac, but over the years I understood. You earn your stripes up the aviation ladder.
I assume you must have known Captain Billy Eko as well.

He was the iconic 747 pilot that regularly flew the Nigeria Airways Boeing 747 on the Lagos-New York route in the early 1980s... Until he got busted for drug trafficking on arrival at the NY airport. I remember that the arrest of Captain Billy Eko sent shockwaves in the print media back then with his biography and photographs of his car which he left at the parking lot of MMIA in Ikeja, Lagos before flying to NY being published on the pages of several newspapers.

But it was a thing of pride in the aviation sector to see an African man who could fly a 747 jumbo across the Atlantic Ocean while headed for New York or London back in those days.
TravelRe: What Does The Stripes On Aircraft Flight Deck Crew Uniform Epaulettes Mean? by Konquest:
Racoon:
WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THE STRIPES IN A PLANE PILOT’S UNIFORM?

Being a widespread means of transport, Aviation has its beginnings closely linked to the military environment. From the second decade of the twentieth century, aircrafts began to be used as courier between armies to become, during the war, one of the deadliest weapons, aerial bombardments.

With the end of World War I, in 1919, a purely civilian use for planes was proposed and as the first commercial pilots came from the army, this is the reason they used military uniforms.

ORIGIN OF THE STRIPES IN THE AVIATION PILOT’S UNIFORM
There are many versions about the origin of the stripes in the uniforms of civilian pilots but the most popular is based on the book “Pan Am: An Aviation Legend”, by author Barnaby Conrad III.

According to this, it was not until the 1930s when the Pan Am, one of the first commercial airlines, decided that its pilots should wear uniforms to inspire confidence and professionalism and chose as a model the one navy officers wore. Following Pan Am’s criteria, other companies introduced uniforms into their crews, becoming a very popular use in the 1950s that has stayed until nowadays.

These uniforms have evolved over time but retain essential elements such as the military cut jacket, the cap with visor and, of course, the stripes on their shoulders. Although distinctions may vary depending on the airline, in general, the bars or stripes represent the rank of each cabin crew member. Placed on the shirt shoulders and jacket sleeves of their uniforms, the stripes mean:

DO STUDENTS PILOT WEAR STRIPES IN THEIR UNIFORMS?

Many aviation schools grant their students, who have obtained their licenses or private pilot certificates and instrument Flight qualification, one or even two bars according to the internal criteria of each center.

WHAT DISTINCTION A COMMERCIAL PLANE PILOT SHOWS IN HIS/HER UNIFORM?

Commercial aircraft pilots will wear in their uniforms the stripes that the company for which they operate establishes according to their rank.

WHAT DISTINCTION A PRIVATE PILOT SHOWS IN HIS/HER UNIFORM?

Stripes are a symbol airlines use to distinguish the rank of their pilot crews. For a private pilot, since he/she is the only pilot responsible for the operation on board, this mark is optional.

SILVER AND GOLD STRIPES

Sometimes we can see plane pilots with silver stripes instead of gold ones. In fact, there is nothing legislated about aviation uniforms so it will depend on each company’s criteria. However, although gold is the most common colour some companies as, for example, Air Norwegian, use silver for their pilots’ uniform stripes.

In the past, some companies, in particular Iberia, placed bars on their male passenger cabin crews who would wear one or two silver bars on their jackets sleeves depending on whether they were steward or chief steward.

Inside Late Mai Deribe's Gold Marble House In Maiduguri, Borno state Nigeria.

LATE ALHAJI MAI DERIBE Was A Famed Billionaire of Borno, Who built Gold-marble house In Maiduguri and Customized (owned) A Gulfstream G550 Model Of private jet in 80s.

Late Deribe was extremely wealthy is a fact and even more factual is his action of dazzling others with his luxurious wealth. And many other Nigerians remember him more for the trappings of his wealth.

In the 1980s, he was one of the very few people on earth who were cruising around in the newly-released Gulfstream G550 private jet.

It is believed that he was among the first 12 people to purchase the customized version of this jet in the early 1980s, putting him in the same league with Yoshiaki Tsutsumi of Japan who was the richest man in the world at that time and other billionaires like Khalid Ibn Mahfouz of Saudi Arabia and Robert Edward ‘Ted’ Turner, the owner of CNN.

-There is also the Deribe Palace (Gidan Deribe) in Maiduguri, the state capital. Sprawling and vast, the building’s majesty was enough to impress the late Princess Diana and her husband, Prince Charles, King Juan Carlos I of Spain who stayed in the palace for two days in 1986 (the Spanish king was said to have been amazed with such opulence right in the middle of a vast desert) and even a son of an American President (George Bush would later become the US President himself), all of whom were hosted in the gold-marble building which was so exquisite that its commissioning was done by military president, General Ibrahim Babangida.

IBB was also a guest at the palace, while another high-profile guest is a retired army general, Muhammad Saad Abubakar, now the Sultan of Sokoto.

Many Nigerians were flabbergasted at the majesty of the Deribe Palace when Ovation magazine did a feature on the man and his wealth in early 2000.

How much did the palace cost him? Just $100 million. And cleaning his house was said to have cost N5million per month.

This is what Dele Momodu, the publisher of Ovation has to say on the Mai Deribe piece, which he said was one of the most memorable
for his company:

After that, I think the Mai Deribe in Maidugri. I also flew in Colin Ramsey from London to do p the photography for us and this is a man who has photographed Imelda Marcos (former First Lady of the Philippines) and all the top stars.

MAI DERIBE THE PHILANTHROPIST...

Mai Deribe was known and is still revered by the people of Borno for his charitable activities while alive. He pumped money into various ends, and these include:

-Construction of the Deribe Central Mosque, Old Maiduguri, Jere Local Government, Borno. It was commissioned by General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.

-In the early 1980s, Mai Deribe upon returning from overseas (most probably the US or the UK) came with gifts of ultramodern gadgets and equipment for the staff of NTA Maiduguri. NTA is the Nigerian Television Authority. The gadgets were so advanced that it took the staff two years to master it, even after inviting their seniors from NTA Channel2, Victoria Island, Lagos.

-On the 1 st of January, 1987, Mai Deribe gave a sum of N5million naira to the Maiduguri Central Mosque on behalf of his family and that of his brother, late Alhaji Kuli Deribe.

-His neighbours were the people of Fezzan and Old Maiduguri, and they also benefitted from his largesse, he sent money and food to them, one bag of millet per family every month of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting.

As a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and Presidential candidate, don't you find this message troubling?

And even the current demolition exercise for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway does not only affect people of just one ethnic group. MOST of those affected are actually Yoruba, including the Oniru family and their Mami Chula Beach resort, amongst many others.

And beyond that, the demolition is not being carried out by the Lagos State Government. The Federal Government is implementing it under Dave Umahi. How can you blame Lagos for an action of the Federal Government? Do you know how many people lost properties when the Federal Government was building the Third Mainland Bridge? Are we not now all enjoying that bridge?

And even Peter Obi, while he was Governor of Anambra, which is your state of origin, demolished the property of private businesses to make room for a road. For example, he demolished Premier Breweries in 2013 to pave the way for a road in Awka. I have a video of that incident and can send it to you. The Federal Government is paying compensation. Obi NEVER paid compensation.

Would it have been fair for anyone to have said, 'Invest in Anambra at your own peril' because of that?

Perhaps you may want to ask your wife to revisit this statement?

idealogical:
The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has adopted a Nigerian language name for its official match ball for interclub competitions.

CAF revealed that the new match ball, in collaboration with PUMA, is OLA.

In a statement by the football body on Wednesday, CAF clarified that “OLA” holds significant meanings in both Yoruba and Arabic languages. In Yoruba, it signifies “wealth,” “honour,” and “respect,” while in Arabic, it represents “rise” and “success.”

It reads: “Ahead of this weekend’s blockbuster line-up that sees Africa’s top clubs battle for TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup and TotalEnergies CAF Champions League top honours, Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) and PUMA have unveiled a new match ball: OLA,” the governing body announced.

“OLA will be used this weekend – starting in Tunis when Espérance Sportive de Tunis host Al Ahly of Egypt in the first leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Final and on Sunday when Zamalek hosts RS Berkane in the second leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup final at the Cairo International Stadium.

“OLA, which means “wealth,” “honour,” and “respect” in Yoruba, and “rise” and “success” in Arabic, was chosen to symbolize the dynamic and energetic nature of African football.

“Embodying the spirit of Africa, Ola’s design is inspired by the continent’s vibrant colours, art, and traditions.”

The newly introduced match ball will be used for the two-legged CAF Champions League final, featuring Al Ahly and Esperance, as well as the return fixture of the CAF Confederation final between RS Berkane and Zamalek in Cairo on Saturday, May 19.
That's cool.

The Dangote oil refinery is set to put an end to the monthly importation of an average of 1 billion litres of premium motor spirit in Nigeria.

This was as the Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, revealed that Nigeria would end petrol imports the moment the refinery started selling the product in June.

PUNCH had earlier reported that the country’s monthly petrol import was reduced by about 1 billion litres after President Bola Tinubu removed fuel subsidies in June, according to a report by the National Bureau of Statistics.

The NBS report indicated that the country received fuel importation of 2.09 litres in January 2023, while 1.99 billion litres was imported in February of the same year. It was 2.29 billion litres in March; 1.91 billion litres in April and 2.01 billion litres in May last year.

However, our correspondent observed that the quantity of PMS imported in June, the first post-subsidy month, dropped to 1.64 billion litres.

The downward slope got deeper in July when the import was reduced to 1.45 billion litres.

Speaking at the Africa CEO Forum Annual Summit in Kigali, Rwanda on Friday, Dangote expressed optimism about transforming Africa’s energy landscape.

According to him, following the laid-down plans of the Dangote refinery, Nigeria will no longer need to import petrol starting next month.

Dangote also stated that his refinery can meet West Africa’s petrol and diesel needs, as well as the continent’s aviation fuel demand.

He said, “ Right now, Nigeria has no cause to import anything apart from gasoline and by sometime in June, within the next four or five weeks, Nigeria shouldn’t import anything like gasoline; not one drop of a litre,” he declared.

He added, “We have enough gasoline to give to at least the entire West Africa, diesel to give to West Africa and Central Africa. We have enough aviation fuel to give to the entire continent and also export some to Brazil and Mexico.

“We have started producing jet fuel, we are producing diesel, and by next month, we’ll be producing gasoline. What that will do, it will be able to take most African crudes,” Dangote told the panel.

The Dangote refinery also struck a crude oil supply deal with TotalEnergies

Dangote’s 650,000 barrels per day refinery has been trying to secure crude supplies from the United States following the inability of Nigeria to ramp up production.

The refinery, which is the largest in Africa and Europe when it reaches full capacity, has since commenced the sale of diesel and aviation, but its petrol is yet to hit the market.

A few days ago, the company had put out a tender for two million barrels of West Texas Intermediate Midland crude every month for a year starting in July.

In April, Dangote crashed the price of diesel from around N1,500 to N1,000 per litre.

However, Nigerians were eagerly waiting for petrol, which is the major fuel used for transportation and alternative power generators.

The words of Dangote appeared to have come as a soothing balm to marketers and Nigerians, who are yet to fully recover from the recent fuel scarcity that almost grounded the economy.

In an interview with our correspondent, the National Vice President of the IPMAN, Hammed Fashola, told our correspondent that the Dangote refinery can supply fuel to Nigeria and West Africa.

“We are happy about it and I believe it is possible when you consider the capacity of the refinery. Due to the capacity, I think the Dangote refinery can satisfy our needs as far as petroleum products are concerned, especially petrol. He can even satisfy other West African countries. It is good news,” Fashola stated.

The IPMAN leader expressed the eagerness of marketers to start lifting fuel from the refinery, saying, “We are all waiting, we are eager for the commencement of the lifting on petroleum products from Dangote refinery, especially petrol”.

Asked if the marketers were expecting a price cut like it happened when the refinery started selling diesel, Fashola retorted that the price may not go back to the N200 per litre that it was before the removal of fuel subsidies, but there would be a marginal reduction.

“On price, I don’t want to predict, but when you look at it from the angle of common sense, the price cannot come back to our old price, but I believe there should be some changes in terms of price because when you look at other factors associated with imported petroleum products, there are some costs that will be cut off, not the major ones; but I believe there will be a little price difference,” he maintained.

The marketer stressed that the private refinery would put an end to fuel scarcity in Nigeria as the product would no longer be imported.

Meanwhile, Fashola explained that IPMAN as a body is yet to have an agreement with the Dangote refinery on the supply of premium motor spirit, calling on the company to consider working directly with the association instead of individuals.

He noted that IPMAN should be a beautiful bride before Dangote for being in control of over 80 per cent of the filling stations in Nigeria.

In a recent interview with our correspondent, the Executive Secretary of the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria, Clement Isong, disclosed that MEMAN members have registered with the Dangote refinery.

“We have all registered with Dangote so that we call buy and sell. All my members are registered with Dangote. Whenever the product is ready and starts coming out, you will see it in our filling stations.

“I confirm that my members have registered with them. We were waiting for the production to start and now it has started and they will start discussing the commercial terms.

“So now the commercial terms will be agreed with each marketer and then they will buy from them. There are several ways you can buy from them. They have loading ranks, over 90, so you can take your truck to go and pick. You can also use vessels to pick. Those are the two ways you pick products,” Isong said.

On pricing, Isong noted, “The price should be the market price because you need to recover your cost and capital, then repay your loans. I don’t know what the market price will be, but I know that with my international experience in the economics of petroleum, nobody does this business to make a loss”.

In January, the Dangote Group confirmed the registration of oil marketers as its distributors, stating, “Three prominent associations, that constitute 75 per cent of the total market in Nigeria have been registered. The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, and the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria”.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has been the only company importing PMS in Nigeria, capping the price of the product below the cost.

During an energy conference in Abuja recently, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, opined that Nigeria does not need to import fuel, expressing concerns that the bulk of the country’s foreign exchange goes into fuel importation.

“We must find a solution to our forex problem. Nigeria does not need to import fuel. We should free our scarce forex for other sectors of the economy. I am aware that the bulk of our forex goes to the importation of refined oil products.” Lokpbiri stated, expressing optimism that home-based refineries would put an end to fuel importation.

Meanwhile, Nigerians are expressing mixed reactions about the refinery; while some are glad, others said they are tired of waiting.
