Dapromzy333:These are normal routine air safety measures sent to the NCAA from the UK air regulatory agency. In any event, globally, air safety regulation is a very rigorous thing. Once you've taken off on an aircraft from the airport, there's a 50-50 chance that you might not make it to the next destination if any thing goes wrong on board. Air travel though remains the fastest and safest as of this moment on a global scale. |
Years of sanctions have left Iranian aircrafts unsafe - as I know too well Jeremy Bowen https://twitter.com/BowenBBC International Editor The Iranian media has not been suggesting that there has been foul play, only that the weather was so terrible and there was this crash. However, President Raisi had many enemies, and there will be plenty of people who will be very happy that he's dead. Back in the 80s, he effectively signed the death warrants for thousands of dissidents who were mainly leftists. He’s been president since 2021 and during his tenure he’s been involved in massive crackdowns against people inside Iran. Plus, he was tipped to get the top job and that's one good way of getting a rival out of the way. But we have no evidence for all of this. In Iran, there's always a reflex that you blame Israel. Israeli officials have been saying to Israeli journalists, they're not involved in it. It is hard to see why Israel would benefit from what would effectively be a very provocative act of war. As for bad weather, the fact is, is that because of years and years of sanctions, Iranian aircrafts are pretty unsafe because they can't get spare parts or new airframes. Back in 1990 when I was reporting on a very big earthquake in Iran, not far from where Raisi was killed, I was in an American helicopter, from the era of the Shah, which had to make a forced landing because one of the engines failed from poor maintenance. A few weeks later, I was told that aircraft actually crashed killing everybody on board. =>https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-middle-east-69035051 |
sprints1:The hard landing part (due to very bad weather) is what was in the article posted by the OP and on several credible International news Websites since yesterday. =>https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-middle-east-69035051 Let's have the credible Web sources that you have that indicates that "transmission failure" led to the Iranians being killed. In any event, due to years of economic sanctions, some old Western aircraft in Iran have not been getting sufficient spare parts for maintenance. I have seen recorded video of a copter that made hard landings and exploded on impact. There's a required speed a helicopter needs to land otherwise it can be devastating for all the souls on board. |
razzydoo:They do (foreign intelligence agencies). Back in the mid to late 2000s here on NL, we had a lot of foreigners from the U.S. and UK directly posting comments here in addition to posts made by a large number of Diasporan Nigerians. It was here on NL that the young International fraudster, Ibinwanne Okeke (who is otherwise called Invictus Obi), had his posts scrutinized by the FBI and he was nailed for that and arrested for a whopping 11 million USD fraud along with 77 of his accomplishes (majorly from the South East of Nigeria) in the U.S. based on the concrete evidence he posted here years back. Read more below: =>https://guardian.ng/features/for-the-record/full-list-of-77-nigerians-charged-for-massive-fraud-money-laundering-in-us/amp =>https://www.thenewsnigeria.com.ng/2019/09/how-nigerian-criminals-across-borders-operate/ |
Bobloco:A hard landing in bad weather can be extremely deadly for helicopters as well. Copters are very fragile and easily explode on hard impact most times due to the aviation fuel in the fuel tank onboard. |
wman:First off, the so-called Landmark you indicated in the bolded section of #4 WASN'T demolished! In fact, that place reopened over one week ago for public use, and the owner of that place was criticized heavily online (after reopening for overstating the situation of things with regards to the road construction and demolitions). Only the beachfront area was taken over because it is in the right of way, meaning that it legally belongs to the Federal Government and the oceanfront can be acquired and used for the public good. The BIGGEST losers of the demolition on Victoria Island were Mami Chula Beach Resort and the Oniru Royal family who rule over Victoria Island and the former Maroko area (now Victoria Island extension and parts of Lekki Phase 1). They lost some infrastructure there in the right of way. The newly constructed and opened multimillion USD Mami Chula Beach Resort owned by Bolaji Ariyo was the BIGGEST loser of property among the beach resorts because the entire structure was demolished to make way for the Lagos to Calabar Coastal Highway construction. Mami Chula Beach Resort Demolition Video Below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrNG0dDMBT0?si=r6925_vvu38rqAcP =>https://www.nairaland.com/8079520/bolaji-ariyos-mamichula-beach-lost Second, the Dangote Refinery you referenced in #2 is indeed where it is today because of the assistance given to Aliko to site the multibillion USD project at Lekki Free Trade Zone in Ibeju-Lekki by the Lagos State Government led by the now President Bola Tinubu when he was Governor. (Ondo and Ogun States were the original sites for the Dangote Refinery but due to bureaucracy, he moved it to Ibeju-Lekki which already had a FTZ). The Federal Government also assisted him all the way in ensuring that the refinery got crude oil as feedstock and he did emphasize many times in the media his gratitude to the Federal Government and President Tinubu for ensuring that things work smoothly at that Refinery. Already from media reports, Dangote Refinery has reduced the cost of both diesel and aviation fuel from over N1800 to below N1000 and Aliko Dangote did make a succinct pledge last week that from June 2024, the importation of fuel or PMS would END with the final installation of an advanced refining device for PMS production that is currently ongoing. Third, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) from the U.S. is way cheaper than Nigeria's Bonny Light, and other crude oil sources, so, a refinery such as Dangote Petrochemical Refinery can get crude oil feedstock from anywhere to complement the ones sourced from Nigeria. It's all about maximization of profits. Refineries such as Dangote will become fully profitable in just two years and existing European refineries managers are already concerned about their own survival because Dangote Refinery has disrupted the order of refined fuel production and distribution in the medium to long-term. The most important thing though is to lower the cost of fuel for folks back in Nigeria with CNG and/or cheaper PMS production so that it would lead to lower costs of doing business and reduce the cost of feeding and transportation. A hungry man is an angry man. |
muhammaduyusufu:Succinctly stated. If you know the way the human animal is wired, you will realize that envy and self-interest are the core attributes that propel a vast number of people who are NOT self-aware worldwide. The buttom line is to improve the economic status of the people in any ecosystem and they will align due to self-interest or the question of "what is in it for me?" Period. |

OLAADEGBU: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hVcBKxXTXc It's finally done and dusted... The BIGGEST sporting news within the last few hours. NOW the boxing game gets more interesting just like back in the day when my main man "Iron Mike Tyson" ruled. |
SSpeter:"The Guardian also reported on the case of Nelson Shardey, 74, a newsagent from Merseyside who has lived in the UK since 1977 and was refused indefinite leave to remain by the Home Office despite being in the country for most of his adult life." A Home Office spokesperson said: “Applications have to be considered on their individual merits in accordance with the immigration rules with the responsibility on applicants to demonstrate they meet these rules.” There're many of these UK Home Office cases. Folks have to learn to think ahead by getting financial education and get their lives put together. One MAJOR health issue such as the debilitating stroke or cancer can send your finances spinning out of control. Most of all, never ignore interactions with your closest family members. |
DeepSight:Look deeper... There is NO one-sided war here. The Hamas terror group are being heavily armed and funded by the Iranian Shiite leadership who also have the Houthis of Yemen, the Hezbollah of Lebanon and other groups as organized terror satellites who have relentlessly attacked the Israelis almost daily with bombs, missiles, drones, and other logistics. This is real WAR between one group of people and Israel The recent firing of several missiles directly on Israeli soil and other military targets by Iran and the Israelis retaliated by attacking Iranian military targets. The Hamas MUST also be blamed for the deaths of tens of thousands of children, women, and the elderly because they were prevented from leaving Gaza, and Rafa, thereby leading to even more casualties. The Hamas members are an apocalyptic group of Islamist terrorists who do not believe that Israel even has the right to exist. They all MUST face justice at the International Criminal Court of Justice (ICJ) for WAR CRIMES. If any Israeli too deserves to face the ICJ, then so be it. |
emmanuelewumi:Vaults and Gardens takes the gold medal here in terms of cost... But then again, there's a niche market for that. Besides, there's limited land space in Lagos State for newer burial sites. |
Kemadealadire:Even in death, there has to be a decent internment for the physical body in any event. Cremation would have been an option for these folks in the absence of disposable income to take care of the funeral of their loved ones who have passed on. These guys can't just be piling up debts at the morgue. In any event, folks worldwide have to start looking at 2 to 3 days period for burying their loved ones and at a cheaper cost. Period. |

promise4040:The comments from these so-called British royalty analysts looks and feels surreal to me. "Meanwhile, the King of England, King Charles III, has visited Nigeria four times, in 1990, 1999, 2006, and 2018." |

chicfarmer:@chicfarmer, Aha! Old Bendelites... Those were the Governor Ambrose Folorunso Alli of Bendel State years and more. Indeed, aside from Crush, Maltina and other malt drinks that I liked to drink, chilled green bottles or cans of Green Sands Shandy NO get part 2. It's pretty clear to me now that the spread of Green Sands Shandy was all over the then 19 States. In addition to Lagos, I took Green Sands Shandy in the North of Nigeria as well back then. As an OG in the game, I have a pleasant surprise for you though, since we are both celebrating nostalgic times. So, just a little over six hours ago, I found a link on how some types of shandy are made. So, head on and experiment with the tips here. =>https://www.kitchenbutterfly.com/2015/friday-cocktails-nostalgic-for-green-sands-shandy/ Let me know what you think about the taste. Whether it comes close to the actual taste of the original Green Sands Shandy brand of the 1980s is another thing entirely, but I'll also give it a try within the week. Heineken and Sprite will "suffer" in my hands from here on out. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Ciao. |
OLAADEGBU:This is ridiculous! I believe there are a few dark-minded sewer rats from among the wider Nigerian population who are giving these insidious British tabloids the stories here to minimize the 3-day non-Royal visit of Prince Harry and Meghan indirectly. If the Oluwo of Iwo Kingdom, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi has been defamed here by these British tabloids and other misleading online posts from the past, then he must immediately take ROBUST legal action against all of them for criminal defamation of character. The same British tabloids and some of their White cronies who claimed to be royal family analysts made several misleading and highly insidious allegations against Nigerian folks on X and in the tabloids just to hit hard at Harry and Meghan. So, these attacks must NOT go unchallenged in the court of law and I just like the responses of folks of Nigerian descent around the world on X who took one of the "malnourished sewer rats" known as @MeghansMole (who was casting ignorant aspersions at Harry, Meghan, and folks of Nigerian descent) to the cleaners. =>https://www.nairaland.com/8096257/allen-onyema-harry-meghan-welcomed I just discovered that this thread post is now on the Front Page and is getting more hits. To the first two uninformed dudes who quoted me to write gibberish about the stories of the Oba's past abroad being online, let me WARN you here and NOW that you have to be very careful about believing many of the fake stories and criminally defamatory posts you read online. Just because a negative story about a prominent OR non-prominent person is online doesn't mean the allegations are true! Globally, online and offline defamation of character are classified as criminal offences. The ignorance of the law is NOT an excuse. ALWAYS fact-check every viral story you read on some crappy blogs, YouTube videos, the racist British tabloids, and other Internet platforms. This is the reason why I have learned over the years to always hold back and refrain from criticizing ANYONE until more FACTS emerge and they are conclusively proven guilty OR not guilty by any competent court of law. Period. |
Islie:Bump. I remember reading in the late 2010s, about some NMA Enugu doctors at a meeting who got into a vicious brawl and blood was flowing from the serious injuries sustained and many plastic chairs at the location of the NMA Enugu meeting got broken. |
abc115:Bump. That's the largest rice mill in West Africa (if not in Africa at full capacity). |
